    I'm trying to add a user (as root) on CentOS 5.5 and I've got this message : useradd: unable to lock password file After reading some post linked to this issue I've deleted two files in /etc : .pwd.lock passwd- However it still doesn't work. Finally, I read a thread where the guy said that using the passwd command to update the passwd file and normally fix this issue. I've tried with the root user But I've got this issue : passwd: Authentication token manipulation error Any idea to add my user ?

  • Why Photoshop CS5's photomerge's result immediately disappear?

    I have a bunch of JPG-files which I want to stitch together with Photoshop's Photomerge function. I choose File → Automate → Photomerge... and browse for the files. Photoshop opens the files and starts analyzing. I see the process bar filling and different phases are mentioned on the process bar. Nothing weird there. When the merging is done (and if I don't blink my eyes), I can see layers-palette is populated with the chosen files and, by quickly judging from the layer thumbnails, they're properly aligned. Sometimes the image window itself can be seen, but not always. Problem is that the layers and the image disappear in a flash. There is no error message. Everything is like prior starting the photomerge. No file has been changed. I could continue to use Photoshop normally. This is what I've tried so far: Loaded folder which has 38 JPG images, 4272 x 2848 and ˜ 5 megabytes per file Loaded the same files, but chose Use Files instead of Use Folder in the photomerge's window Loaded 19 JPG images, 4272 x 2848 and ˜ 5 megabytes per file Loaded 10 JPG images, ⇑ see above Loaded 5 JPG images, see above Loaded 3 JPG images, see above Scaled the images to 2256 x 1504 and ˜< 1 megabytes per file Loaded in a set of 38, 19, 10, 5, 3 Following steps are tested with these smaller files and with a set of 5 images Read Adobe's forums and reduced the amount of RAM Photoshop uses gradually from ˜ 80 % to 50 % (though I didn't understand the logic behind this) Would've reduced cache tile size to 128K, but it was set so already Disabled OpenGL Scaled the images to 800 x 533 and ˜ 100 kilobytes per file, loaded a set of 5 Read more unanswered threads around the internet In between each test I closed and reopened Photoshop. This is the first time I've even tried using photomerge. Am I doing something wrong? How can I locate what is the problem? How do I fix this? Photoshop is 64 bit Extended CS5 version. I'm on a mid-2010 quad-core (i5) iMac with up-to-date Mac OS X 10.6.6. Edit: Weird. First loading the images into one file via File → Scripts → Load Files into Stack… and then using Edit → Auto-Align Layers…, which, effectively, is the same as photomerge (even the dialog looks kind of the same), works! Even with the original JPGs without any issues. This doesn't fix photomerge, though.

  • SVN Email Report

    I use subversion.com for my personal stuff and whenever a commit is made I get a detailed report of what exactly changed and who changed it. I've read a bit into hooks and understand that this is likely a hook but it seems like it's not default functionality included with Subversion. It sounds like it's something I'm going to have to program... am I correct with that conclusion or can I just "set it up" by entering a few emails? Please tell me it's included :)

  • Preventing users from deleting SQL data

    We just purchased a program that requires the users to have an account in the MS SQL server, with read/write access to the program's database. My concern is that since these users will now have write access to the database, they could directly connect to the SQL server outside of the program's client and then mess with the data directly in the tables. Is there anyway I can prevent access to the database while still allowing access via the client program?

    In TCP Connection Termination, when client enters in TIME_WAIT state means the client waits for a period of time equal to double the maximum segment life (MSL) time, to ensure the ACK it sent was received. (I read above from a book computer networking by kurose and also given in following URL http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_TCPConnectionTermination-2.htm ) But how it was detected if last ACK(send by client as a response to server FIN) lost?

  • Computer shows error message when being shut down. What does it mean?

    My OS is Windows XP SP3. This message sometimes comes up when I am shutting the computer down: The instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read. The computer still shuts down. I cannot find a reference to this happening on shutdown, it only seems to be connected to programs that I don't have. I have the whole Word 2003 package. Any direction appreciated.

Now Opensuse loader shows Windows7 option when I it loads but, when I chose to load windows 7 I get " A Disk read error occured, press ctrl+alt+e to restart".   • Apache will not stop/start gracefully

    CentOs 6 64bit running apache 2.2.15-29.el6.centos. When I try to stop/start or restart httpd I get an error that says it has failed. A tail of the error log is below. I also noticed that a httpd.pid file is not created even though it is configured in the main conf file. If I set selinux to permissive, it works just fine. I do not want to run it with selinux disabled. If I delete the SSL_Mutex file it will start. HTTPD was running fine until I tried to add the ssl configuration. I copied over the ssl.conf file from a working server into the conf.d folder. I also copied a sslcert folder into the conf folder. It contains the certs, key, csr and password file. I think the problem has to do with the selinux context for the sslcert folder that was copied but I am not certain and not sure how to fix it.     I have an AMD Radeon 5850 (about to be 2), and today I read that Rift is a member of Nvidia's "the way it's meant to be played" program. It was suggested that as such the developers would not be speaking with or working directly with AMD for optimization, and that it would be unlikely that Crossfire support would be added until the game's release. Are any of these implications likely? Or does it just mean that Nvidia is working closely with the developers for optimization and marketing support?

  • SSD: NTFS vs EXT4

    Always when I read about SSD usage under Linux, the advice is to disable journalling in Ext4 (or use Ext2), since it's too bad for your SSD. But in all articles about SSD tweaks for Windows, I never see any mentions that you should disable NTFS journalling, or that you should stick to FAT32. I know Ext4's journaling is more advanced, but is it so much more damaging to a SSD than that of NTFS? Or are Linux users just a little bit more cautious?

    I have installed and configured in private server a local git repository using Gitorious. The problem I am facing is that when I set up a new Gitorious project and limit read access permissions to specific users, the repositories inside the project are not visible any more.     I suppose the question would be OS specific, so I'll take the following scenarios: Winodows (NTFS) OSX (HFS) Linux (ext2,ext3,ext4) Each operating system has it's default filesystem it operates os (OSX, I beleive, only has the one choice available). I've noticed some utilities out there for OS's to read different file systems (which obvisouly is NOT apart of the kernel), which got me thinking: Are filesystem operations a function of a driver (ie, potentially modular), or is it truly apart of the kernel?

    I have an IIS server running a site, appPool is running under local system, this is done because its easier to have full permissions to certificates and other file based resources on the local server. Problem is when I try write or copy a file to a network share, permissions are obviously not in place on the remote system for the IIS server local system. Is it possible to grant permissions on the remote system to include read/write or even full access to the IIS servers local system account?

    I'm having the problem of needing a hard drive that can be written to by both a Mac and a PC. I have found that FAT32 might be an option, but as a video editor I often deal with files over the 4 GB limit. And since Mac doesn't read NTFS (very well with third-party programs) I'm considering FAT32. I'm curious, what happens when you try to write a file that is over 4 GB? What is a good way around this?
