• E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 ? in Ubuntu

  I am working with Ubuntu latest version. While installing via apt-get install i tried to abort that by pressing Ctrl+Z. It terminate successfully ;). But next time when i tried to use apt-get, i got some error "lock" and "temporally unavailable" something like that and **I unfortunately i delete the /var/lib/dkpg folder.** after that i cant install anything from apt-get, getting an error. E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 so how can i solve this issue?

• C++ linkage error . What am I doing wrong ? [migrated]

  So, this is the first time I actually separated a single program into a header and two .cpp files . But I think I am getting an linkage error . Heres how the directory looks . (heres a link to my image I dont have enough rep to post image in the question) http://i.stack.imgur.com/sbT4V.png The main.cpp is my main source file where all the calling functions and other important stuff goes . In functions.cpp I have all my functions , in the coordin.h file I have the function prototypes and structures and Constants . Everything is ok no typo nothing I have checked everything . But I am getting an undefined reference to function error. I have included the coordin.h file too . Do you think the functions.cpp file needs to go somewhere else I mean is the compiler not looking inside that file ? Thanks !

• Deleted Myself from Admin Group - Now Getting Error usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later

  I have a laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 that is shared between myself and two other family members. My user id was setup as the only "Administrator" on the laptop. The other users were setup as "Standard" users. In my attempt to try to add myself to the user groups for the other users, I somehow deleted myself from the admin groups. I used the "usermod" command from the terminal. I must have neglected to include the proper switches or syntax for the update. It looks like I successfully added my userid to the group associated with my wife's account. When I use the "groups" command, I can see only my id and my wife's id in the list. I no longer see the "admin" or "adm" groups, and others that used to be listed. When I go into System Settings User Accounts it looks like my ID is now listed as a "Standard" user. I would like to change my account back to "Administrator", but now I can't. I did some searches for solutions and found that I would need to boot into Recovery Mode and execute the usermod command from the root session. I was able to successfully boot into Recovery Mode and get to the root session. I was trying to execute the command "usermod -a -G admin user1" to add my id (user1) back to the admin group. When I execute the command from the root session, I get the error message "usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later". I tried preceding the usermod command with "sudo", but it didn't make a difference, same error. I then tried adding a new user using adduser, thinking I would try to create a new userid and make the new userid part of the admin group. I get the same error using the adduser command. I saw some posts that recommend looking for and deleting files that end in ".lock" in the etc directory. The only file I found was .pwd.lock which I haven't touched. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I am relatively inexperienced with Ubuntu and Linux, so alot of this is new to me. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

• Trying to diagnose network problem: ping 127.0.0.1 (or any address) results in error code 1

  NIC seems to be working, as windows detects the hardware and has a driver and reports success. DHCP seems to have gotten an ip address, 192.168.1.101. I released and renewed it and it seemed to work normally. I tried ping 127.0.0.1 as first step of testing network configuration. Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data: PING: transmit failed, error code 1. I read somewhere that net helpmsg [error code] would give a human readable name for the error code. net helpmsg 1 says "Incorrect function" I've tried disabling the firewall and antivirus in McAfee SecurityCenter and I still get the same error. Could the firewall/antivirus be breaking it even if disabled? Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 is installed, and its network test passes all tests, including ping 192.168.1.1 which is the default gateway. If I try ping 192.168.1.1 from the command prompt I get the error code 1 again. So does anyone have any theories that would explain this problem? Other tests I should try? Thanks!

• How can I calculate the angle between two 2D vectors?

  I am working on some movement AI where there are no obstacles and movement is restricted to the XY plane. I am calculating two vectors, v, the facing direction of ship 1, and w, the vector pointing from the position of ship 1 to ship 2. I am then calculating the angle between these two vectors using the formula arccos((v · w) / (|v| · |w|)) The problem I'm having is that arccos only returns values between 0° and 180°. This makes it impossible to determine whether I should turn left or right to face the other ship. Is there a better way to do this?

  Im getting an error half way through an SQL Server 2008 r2 installation. The error states Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller. it asks to retry or cancel. Upon trying both, the error message returns and I must cntrl-alt-delete to end the process. I have checked all permissions associated with local account, network domain account and ran installation as administrator. I have searched on the web and other people are having this problem too but I cant find a solution. so I turn to the experts, anyone encounter this error??

• Why I am getting following error when trying to start SDK manager?

  I have a 64 bit- 20 GB Ubuntu partition which has very less usable space. So I have put Eclipse in my Ubuntu and downloaded sdks to a folder in my another partition. So when I try to start sdk manager, I am getting the following error in my console: Unexpected exception 'Cannot run program "/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb": error=13, Permission denied' while attempting to get adb version from '/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb' I have run chmod recursively on android-sdks directory. If I change the address for sdks to Ubuntu partition, sdk manager starts successfully. Is there anything I can do other than increasing the partition size? Thanks

• Suppressing "extra ';'" error in GCC when -pedantic is on

  Hi all, I'm building my program with -pedantic flag, which causes an extra ';' error (because of a third-party header using a few macros inconsistently; the error is not shown when -pedantic is off). I don't really feel like turning -pedantic off, and neither do I want to edit the header. Is there any way to suppress this exact error? Like a -Wno-annoying-semicolon-error compiler switch or something?

  I'm using jsdom with node.js and I'm trying to get it to provide me with some indication that an http error has occurred. I've set up a test server that simply returns an http 500 header for all requests, but when I attempt to load it with jsdom, jsdom doesn't throw any error and doesn't seem to provide me with any information that would identify that an http 500 error was returned. What's the best way to detect an http 500 error?

• Is there a way to bypass the jQuery error handler?

  If my Ajax call returns a successful result, but while processing the result I cause an exception, the error handler fires. This seems counter intuitive to me as I think the error handler should only fire when an error occurs as a result of making the Ajax call or via a server-side error. I am trying to use the Ajax function in a unit test so I would like to tell the difference between the two different failure scenarios.

The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

  Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck. • Windows 7 / Ubuntu Dualboot GRUB Problem.

  I'd like to first say ahead of time that I'm running a RAID-0 Setup. 1.First of all, I'm glad Ubuntu 9.10 installed flawlessly and detected my RAID-0 setup just fine. The issue I'm having now is that I already had Windows 7 installed and made a small 12GB partition for Linux/Swap. I grabbed EasyBCD 2.0 to edit the W7 bootloader and configured it to use dual boot Grub2 because before it didn't even show the option for Ubuntu. The bootloader points to a file made in the windows directory made by EasyBCD called "C:\NST\AutoNeoGrub0.mbr" which is what I'm guessing grub is booting from. After that I got the option for booting Ubuntu. The problem is that it's sending me to the Grub prompt (probably because it's pointing to \NST|AutoNeoGrub0.mbr?), at first I didn't know what to do but I researched and have to type grub commands to manually boot into Ubuntu Linux. Ex: grubroot (hd0,4) grubkernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6... root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/24624-2424... grubinitrd boot/initrd.img-2.6... grubboot After all that Ubuntu boots just fine, but how do I fix it permanently? Do I need to edit the bootloader manually (since Easy BCD "autoconfigures")? Some insight on this would rock! Also, it sucks to type the actual uuid since it's REALLY long. I tried getting the name of the drive via fdisk -l but since it's raid 0 I'm guessing I can't do that. How can I get a shorter name of the drive? like /dev/sda, /dev/sdb etc? • Debian dependency problems / partially installed

  I tried to install curl support for php 5 on my debian squeeze machine and since I'm having problems. After trying to install curl I got dependency issues which I tried to solve by removing what started the issues. From one thing came another and I'm currently looking at ~29 issues when I try to do an apt-get upgrade. These issues vary from unable to config, dependency and unable to remove errors. I tried apt-get upgrade -f and installing packages using dpkg command. I tried removing using purge and force. I manually removed stuff to try and fix it. I tried running dpkg --configure -a. I've to say I'm still pretty new to linux so I'm out of idea's and cant seem to find an answer online that matches my problems. • Android Remote Service Keeps Restarting

  Ok so I've built an app that uses a remote service to do some real time GPS tracking. I am using the below code to start and bind to the service. The remote service uses aidl, sets up a notification icon, runs the GPS and locationListener. In onLocationChanged, a handler sends data back to the caller via the callback. Pretty much straight out of the examples and resources online. I want to allow the service to continue running even if the app closes. When the app is restarted, I want the app to again bind to the service (using the existing service if running) and again receive data from the tracker. I currently have the app mode set to singleTask and cannot use singleinstance due to another issue. My problem is that quit often even after the app and service are shut down either from the app itself, or from AdvancedTaskKiller, or a Forceclose, the service will restart and initialize the GPS. touching on the notification will open the app. I again stop the tracking which removes the notification and turns off the GPS Close the app, and again after a few seconds the service restarts. The only way to stop it is to power off the phone. What can I do to stop this from happening. Does it have to do with the mode of operation? START_NOT_STICKY or START_REDELIVER_INTENT? Or do I need to use stopSelf()? My understanding is that if the service is not running when I use bindService() that the service will be created...so do I really need to use start/stopService also? I thought I would need to use it if I want the service to run even after the app is closed. That is why i do not unbind/stop the service in onDestroy(). Is this correct? I've not seen any other info an this, so I,m not sure where to look. Please Help!   I just upgraded to m2eclipse version 0.10 which includes an embedded Maven 3 and I'm now getting the following error when trying to run a build. I've already set Maven-Installations to my Maven 2 installation, but it had no effect. How do I resolve this? [INFO] Scanning for projects...
