I'm new to linux world. Just downloaded ubuntu and installed it alongside with windows 7 . In grub when I choose ubuntu, it opens with no problem, but when I try to open windows 7, this message appears: A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. I googled for that problem which directed me to download a boot repair tool, when I choose : advanced options / retore MBR --> apply, then restart computer , It boot to win 7 without loading the grub menu. then I opened the live ubuntu from a USB, launched the "boot repair" again, choose : recommended repair , then restart, It returns to the first problem , grub menu appear, from which I can choose only ubuntu , but win 7 show this msg again : A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. I repeated more and more with the same results ... What should I do? I created a boot info summary using the "boot repair tool" if this can help , it's in this URL.

Should I indicate that the user exists or was deleted on the error page?

On an ordinary public website, the user's profile is always publicly visible to all visitors (such as Stack Overflow), where they can limit certain pieces of information via privacy settings or just removing the information. Now the user has decided to delete their account (in my case deactivate) so that their account doesn't technically "exist" anymore. The way my system is set up, when their account is deactivated, their username for any content connected to them just becomes "Anonymous User" as if it were a guest that posted. I feel like this could cause some confusion for other users. I'm also concerned about what kind of error to display when someone attempts to view their profile page. My gut tells me to just display a standard 404 page to hide the fact that they ever existed, but then you also have to consider that, since usernames must be unique, anyone can go to the register page and type in the username to see if it really exists or not. I have a similar problem with another website, which gives users the ability to hide their profiles from the public and only allow registered users to view it. Again it's with the dilemma of what kind of error message to display when an unregistered users attempts to view their profile with invalid permissions. So, would it be acceptable to display basic errors such as "user has been deactivated" or "you must be logged in to view this profile" in order to give other visitors some idea of why the page can't be displayed, or should I attempt to cover the user's privacy a little and just display a standard 404 without indicating in any way that the user might exist? Are there any other issues that I'm not realizing about either route? To go back to the beginning, should I even bother changing the user's name to "Anonymous User" when their account is deactivated? Would it be acceptable to just display a non-linked version of their username in place of the normal linked display name?

Hi, I'm going through the Stanford iPhone course. I'm on the second Paparazzi assignment. I'm getting this error: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity.' I've copied a lot of the code from this walkthrough site. Running his source code works perfectly, and at this point my code is pretty much exactly the same as his. But it throws that error. I'm having a difficult time understanding how to get Rails to show explicitly the error messages that a child resource is failing on when I render an XML template. Hypothetically, I have the following classes: class School < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :students validates_associated :students end class Student < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :school validates_format_of :email, :with => /^([^@\s]+)@((?:[-a-z0-9]+\.)+[a-z]{2,})$/i, :message => "You must supply a valid email" end Now, in the controller, let's say we want to build a trivial API to allow us to add a new School with a student in it (again, I said, it's a terrible example, but plays its role for the purpose of the question) class SchoolsController < ApplicationController def create @school = School.new @student = school.students.build @student.email = "bad@email" respond_to do |format| if @school.save # some code else format.xml { render :xml => @school.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end end Now the validation is working just fine, things die because the email doesn't match the regex that's set in the validates_format_of method in the Student class. I ran into troubles with MySQL on my CentOS. I had some problems and backed up my database and removed mysql with all dependencies. After that I ran reinstalled: yum groupinstall "MySQL Database" Installed without errors. Running the mysql daemon: service mysqld start Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon. Starting MySQL: [FAILED] I also ran # /usr/bin/mysql_install_db --user=mysql Installing MySQL system tables... 120112 1:49:44 [ERROR] Error message file '/usr/share/mysql/english/errmsg.sys' had only 480 error messages, but it should contain at least 481 error messages. Trying to compile an application (flite synthesis sapi) on vc++6. This requires Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 Have included C:\Program Files\Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1\IDL C:\Program Files\Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1\include using Toolsoptionsdirectories and also on another attempt via ProjectSettings Repeatedly get this error microsoft fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'files\microsoft': No such file or directory speech fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'speech': No such file or directory sdk fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'sdk': No such file or directory idl fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: '5.1\idl': No such file or directory FliteCMUKalDiphone.idl Thought it may be spaces related so included full path in quotes in relevant .h files. No joy Installed Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 on another machine in same folder as flite and renamed to mssdk51 (so no spaces in pathname) but same error came up. Tried pasting in contents of each .idl called in file where glitch seems to generate Still same message. I am new to C++ and programming in general. My only guess is that something in the speech sdk is calling the .idl file and I can't find where from. Of course this is probably way wrong!

As you can see by the commented out parts I have tried a lot of different things based on random tutorials I have found but all of them have ended up in Internal Server Error, 503 and most often a '502 Bad Gateway`. I can start play and it does connect successfully to my database. I can get a page to show up when there is an error and the play! stack trace error pages comes up but where everything is fine I get one of the errors above. Puppet gives SSL error because master is not running?

I started with two clean machines this time. So I did rm -rf /etc/puppet/ssl/ to remove all the keys inside ssl folders. It looked like it work.... The only way I can tell it did not run was that it returns a dataset with 0 tables in it. But when investigating the error it is not appearant that the procedure does not exist. EDIT Upon further investigation command.Connection.FireInfoMessageEventOnUserErrors = true; is causeing the error to be surpressed into the InfoMessage Event From BOL When you set FireInfoMessageEventOnUserErrors to true, errors that were previously treated as exceptions are now handled as InfoMessage events. All events fire immediately and are handled by the event handler. If is FireInfoMessageEventOnUserErrors is set to false, then InfoMessage events are handled at the end of the procedure. What I want is each print statement from Sql to create a new log record. Setting this property to false combines it as one big string. I am not able to delete a corrupt NTFS partition on my pen drive. How can I force its deletion?

I formatted my 16GB pen drive with the NTFS file system in windows vista. After that I started copying some files. However, only a few files were copied to the pen drive before the copy operation hung. So I cancelled the copy operation. Now I am unable to use the pen drive. I DON'T REALLY NEED ANY FILES THAT I COPIED TO THE PENDRIVE. I JUST WANT TO USE THE PENDRIVE AGAIN. I have tried using Ubuntu to format the pen drive. But when i use fdisk to delete the partition, it looks like it is working fine but in fact it does not delete the partition. Also I am unable to format it with any other file system. When I tried to use gparted, it throws the following error: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 14: The disk contains an unclean file system(0,0). The file system wasn't safely closed on window. Fixing ntfs_attr_pread_i:ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error Failed to read NTFS$Bitmap:Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a softRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important!. If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the dmraid documentation for more details When I searched the Internet I found help on how to recover. But I don’t want to recover, I want to format it again. When I pressed w after deleting the partition, it took more time than previously. After that i removed the pen drive and re-inserted, but the partition I had deleted was still present. If I simply type the command fdisk /dev/sdb without removing the pen drive after the partition is deleted, then it returns the error message Unable to open /dev/sdb. I have been having the same problem with Windows Updates on 2 of my machines at home, both running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. One of the 2 machines is a brand new install, the other has run Windows Update in the past, but is also not working now. When I manually check for updates using the Control Panel, I get error code 8024402F: I followed the link to "Get help with this error", which brings up several articles in Windows Help and Support, none of which are for this specific error code. From the help and general googling I've tried: Checking internet connectivity. Most of the help suggests that this error is caused by a general internet connectivity problem. But if you're reading this, my connection is definitely working fine. Disabling antivirus temporarily and trying to run Windows Update. This didn't help (I run AVG free) Running Control Panel - Troubleshooting - Security Systems - Fix Problems with Windows Update. This said it detected and resolved problems, but didn't help. Update using IE (as I used to in XP). A quick check on twitter shows no worldwide outcry about Windows Update being unavailable, so is it just me? I have a module in my system that will trigger an email and send it to user. The email will be sent to user when the product in my system is going to expired soon. I test the whole module in localhost and there is no problem with it. Then, I finally moved the module in my server but it gives this error. sendmail: Error during delivery: Service not available, closing transmission channel. Can't install Visual Studio 2010 SP1 from an .ISO file I downloaded. Error inside

Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. [OK] I'm running Windows 7 (64bit) Ultimate and have installed this service pack before (2 days ago) on another machine with similar specs and the same exact OS software. I've tried mounting the .ISO file to a virtual drive and installing from there and I get that error. I've tried mounting the .ISO and copy pasting the files to a local folder on my drive and then running the setup.exe application, and I get that error. I don't know how to proceed but can provide any additional information you require from me. What can I do to fix this? Edit If I right click Setup.exe and Run As Administrator, I get the following error: [Window Title] C:\Users\Sergio\Desktop\Things\Setup.exe [Content] Windows cannot find 'C:\Users\Sergio\Desktop\Things\Setup.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. [OK] I've already tried re downloading the ISO from the site, but a quick check of the bytes of the file assures me that the ISO on my drive is 100% correctly downloaded. I get the same amount of bytes in size from the downloading ISO (as Opera reports).

Why do I get xfs_freeze "Operation not supported" error with ec2-consistent-snapshot? Debian Squeeze w/ext4 filesystem

I'm running the following command: [root@somehost ~]# ec2-consistent-snapshot --aws-credentials-file '/some/dir/file' --mysql --mysql-socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock' --mysql-username 'backup' --mysql-password 'password' --freeze-filesystem '/dev/xvda1' vol-xxxxxx It returns this error: xfs_freeze: cannot freeze filesystem at /dev/xvda1: Operation not supported ec2-consistent-snapshot: ERROR: xfs_freeze -f /dev/xvda1: failed(256) snap-eeb66393 xfs_freeze: cannot unfreeze filesystem mounted at /dev/xvda1: Invalid argument ec2-consistent-snapshot: ERROR: xfs_freeze -u /dev/xvda1: failed(256) This is being run on Debian Squeeze with the ext4 Linux filesystem. Can anyone explain this error to me, or what might be its cause? When googling, I found information about it needing to be executed with sudo, but I'm performing the entire operation as root. I also found some posts about trying to run it after a CentOS upgrade using yum, but the situation appeared dissimilar. It's difficult to find things referring to this situation exactly. xfs_freeze is available for use on the filesystem. Is it possible that the filesystem, despite being ext4, somehow doesn't support freezing? Sorry if I've missed some bit of StackExchange etiquette with this post -- it's my first venture here!

DataAnnotations in sample code does not work when the database fields are set to not allow nulls. ERROR occurs with the code from the book and with the sample code downloaded from codeplex. Help! I'm really frustrated by this!! I can't believe something so simple just doesn't work??? Steps to reproduce ERROR: Set Database fields to not allow NULLs (See Picture) Set NerdDinnerEntityModel Dinner class fields' Nullable property to false (See Picture) Add DataAnnotations for Dinner_Validation class (CODE A) Create Dinner repository class (CODE B) Add CREATE action to DinnerController (CODE C) This is blank form before posting (See Picture) This null ERROR occurs when posting a blank form which should be intercepted by the Dinner_Validation class DataAnnotations.
