  • Snow Leopard not reading NTFS

    I just upgraded a brand new Macbook Pro that I bought with 10.5 installed to Snow Leopard. After doing the upgrade I am trying to access NTFS partitions on my external hard drive but they are just not showing up. I went ahead and installed Windows 7 using Parallels, and I can access the NTFS partitions from within Windows, but not from Mac OS X. I know that Snow Leopard should be able to at least read NTFS drives, so what is going on here?

    Purchased a new computer, actually the parts to build one. Unsure what windows 7 to purchase. Need at least professional, seems to be around $200 upgrade to $300 full version. If I put the old XP on my new machine, will i be bale to use the 64bit windows 7 Pro upgrade instead of having to buy the full version? Will it still do a clean install?

  • Can't transfer images from a camera connected to usb2 port on a pcmcia adapter

    I have an old laptop (HP OmniBook vt6200, WinXp pro, sp2) that only has usb1 ports. Transferring pictures from a digital camera is too slow, so I thought of trying one of those pccards carrying usb2 ports (D-Link Dub C2 in my case). Connecting the camera to one of the ports on the pccard, Picasa seems to freeze trying to read the camera contents, until I either disconnect the camera or the pccard. Any idea on what's wrong?

What do people recommend? In particular, are there any compatibility issues between different WiFi N drafts that would limit the speed of the MacBook, and is it worth getting dual-band?

I’m not talking about Boot Camp, I’m talking about completely wiping disk of any files and partitioning it for Windows installation. Any BIOS, booting, compatibility problems?     I purchased PGP Whole Disk Encryption for my Macbook Pro, and it's exactly what I need. After the Symantec acquisition, PGP no longer sells single licenses of the software so I can't purchase a second copy for my iMac. Since I can no longer buy PGP Whole Disk Encryption, can anyone suggest an alternative? I'm currently using Filevault, but I specifically want whole disk encryption. I'm using a quad-core i7 iMac running Snow Leopard and I'm also hoping to protect my Windows Bootcamp partition.

    I now have two mongo servers with a Master-Slave configuration (all read-writes are done with the Master, the Slave is just a cold backup) serving a pretty demanding web app. I want to switch to ReplicaSet of 3 servers - I have these 3 already configured and working (still not connected to the web app).   • Finder Using Nearly 100% CPU

    I'm having a problem where the Finder uses WAY too much CPU time. It's using up to 100% of one of my cores. I'm running 10.6.2 on a MacBook Pro w/ 6GB of RAM, plenty of fast (SSD) disk space. I also run DropBox and BackBlaze. I've tried disabling my third party stuff (DropBox and BackBlaze), but that doesn't seem to help. It's killing my battery life!

    My employer recently purchased a Mac Pro server (2011 model) and we've installed OSX Lion Server from the Mac Appstore. I'm definitely no server admin, but I have been tasked with finding out the following: Can we monitor or log what users do? I booted from the DVD and ran a few tests, noticed that HD and RAM are being detected, also did a repair on the disk through disk utility, still getting same error. Any suggestions?

    I recently upgraded from windows 8 Consumer Preview to Windows 8 Pro (RTM through dreamspark premium), and have the following issue: When I attempt to log in after a restart, it often takes a while (~3 minutes) for the computer to accept the password (Each try goes relatively quickly, a few seconds at most before telling me I have an incorrect password). I changed the password, and this issue is unresolved (the old password came with the upgrade). What could be doing this?

    We're using DPM 2010 for exchange backups, The backup Disk(s) are iSCSI attached drives from multiple NAS boxes. We'd like to mirror iqn.2009-07.com.example.example:RAID.iscsi4.vg0.iscsi05 onto iqn.2012-3.com.example.example:RAID.iscsi4.vg0.iscsi05 DPM 2010 requires the disk for itself and handles volume creation, Therefore we can't just create a mirrored volume in Disk Management. DPM itself doesn't seem to have any ability to mirror the Disks in its storage pool. Any tips on how to mirror the volumes from one drive to the other?

  • Slow wifi from Windows Server 2003 virtualized in XenServer

    I'm a brand spanking new user of OS X, coming from a lifetime of Windows use. I've been setting up my new Macbook Pro and have run into a very unusual problem. Over wifi, I am unable to copy files to or from my Windows Home Server. The problem seems to exist only over wifi, and only to WHS. Here are the details of my setup: 2010 Macbook Pro (Core i7), OS X 10.6.3 Windows Home Server PP3 (virtualized in XenServer 5.5) Windows 7 Ultimate x64 desktop Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in Boot Camp D-Link DIR-655 wireless N router Here is what I've done to narrow down the problem: Files copy fine from WHS to OS X when using gigabit ethernet Files copy fine from desktop to OS X when using gigabit ethernet Files fail to copy from WHS to OS X when using wifi (error -51) Files copy fine from desktop to OS X when using wifi Files copy fine from WHS to Boot Camp when using wifi Files copy fine from desktop to Boot Camp when using wifi From what I can tell, it seems to be some sort of issue between OS X and WHS, but I can't for the life of me see what would be different between shares on WHS and my desktop. They are both connected using smb://ADDRESS (I've tried both by IP and name). I can browse the shares on the WHS, but copying to OS X fails. I originally found the issue while installing VS2010 off an ISO from WHS, mounted to a Windows 7 VM using VMware Fusion. During the installation the VM was unusable - even the clock got behind the host be about 8 minutes. Once I plugged in the ethernet and disabled the wifi things picked up and finished quickly. The Fusion 3.1 RC is the only I think of that I installed that may have messed with the wifi driver. I've also tried resetting the wifi router, and have changed it from being G & N to N-only. Under Boot Camp I get similar speeds as my wife's N laptop. Any ideas? Thanks! Update: The issue has been further narrowed down to Windows Server 2003, which Windows Home Server is based on, running in XenServer with the XenServer tools installed.

  • Windows 7 The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible 0xc000000f

    I have a problem with my Windows 7, hardware : Acer 3820TG Operating Systems : Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 dual Case: When I try to boot my windows 7 I see an error: "Window failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1.Insert.... 2. .... ... status : 0xc000000f info : The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible .... " I can't exactly remember what were my last actions on Windows. I already searched this error and applied the proposed solutions, I created a repair USB (because I don't have a CD-ROM nor a Windows 7 CD) such as; -repair operating system :it says it cannot repair it -checking disk (chkdsk D: /f /r) : it checks the disk without a problem or error and it takes pretty long (more than a hour). But when I restart, still the same error. -I didn't create a restore point so I pass this option -I don't have a system image -I tried to run windows recovery (I have a recovery partition) but there are just two options: 1- Format the operating system but retain user data (copies the files under users to c\backup folder, but when I searched deeper I found that there are some people who already tried this option and couldn't find their user files under backup directory). Plus, I have unfortunately just one partition D (it is a fault I know) because I use always Ubuntu. So this is not applicable in my situation 2- Format entire system (Windows). I keep my valuable data in windows but not in user folder. I was reaching them from Windows. -I tried to repair windows boot by: bootrec /fixMBR bootrec /fixBoot bootrec /rebuildBCD I lost all grub menu, and reinstalled it. - ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1014708&page=29 nothing changed, same error. I created a thread in microsoft forums - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/thread/69517faf-850a-45fd- 8195-6d4ed831f805 but I couldn't find a solution. Before I run chkdsk from usb repair disk I couldn't able to mount Windows (NTFS) partition from Ubuntu, I was getting "couldn't mount file system, error code 2". I tried to fix ntfs partition from ubuntu and got "segmentation fault". I also created a thread on ubuntuforums for this mount problem: - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606427 So, after chkdsk, I could enable to mount windows partition but all I see in this partition is chkdsk logs, no any other data. Now, I don't think I lost my data because I don't get any filesystem errors, just the boot section, but this log files under windows partition makes me afraid. I see that Microsoft developers don't have a solution yet for this error. If you need any information to get more idea I can give, maybe I miss some points or it could be complicated. Edit: The thinking is that I have one mac update itself using Software Update, and then somehow share the downloaded updates with other macs. For example, I have a mac pro and a mac mini on my local network. I'd like to download the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update only once, instead of having to download it separately for each mac.

  • ubuntu: amd64 vs i386?

    cant understand what these are even though i've read articles about them. does it has something to do with 32 bits and 64 bits CPU? so why is it saying "AMD"64 and "I386"? AMD is a label just like INTEL? so if I've got Intel Core 2 Duo (Macbook pro) then i cant use amd64 even though Intel Core is 64 bits. thanks for explanation!
