• ubuntu: amd64 vs i386?

  cant understand what these are even though i've read articles about them. does it has something to do with 32 bits and 64 bits CPU? so why is it saying "AMD"64 and "I386"? AMD is a label just like INTEL? so if I've got Intel Core 2 Duo (Macbook pro) then i cant use amd64 even though Intel Core is 64 bits. thanks for explanation!

• Mac OS X 10.6.3 update freezes mouse

  Ever since I updated my early 2010 MacBook Pro 13" with the 10.6.3 update, the mouse pointer freezes for 5 to 10 seconds, every now and then. The keyboard is next to unresponsive when this happens. Are there more people having the same problem? Is this a known bug? Is there a solution?

  No obvious problems with my Mac OS X 10.5 system, but Drive Genius 1.5.1 says: "Invalid catalog btree reverse link in node" when doing a "Verify" The "repair" and "rebuild" options fail. I did some googling, and the consensus as: 1- Drive Genius is slightly better than Disk Warrior 2- This problem is likely not fixable. My assumed solution is that I should do a full backup and re-format.

  I have a video phone application running on OMAP 3530 board.The problem is when i connect the camera(pro 9000) through a powered USB hub (Inp:100to240v, OUT:5v,1A) everything works fine when I make a video call.But If i connect the camera directly to the OMAP3530 board and try to make a video call,OMAP board is not sending any video packets captured locally.And also the PIP(Picture In Picture) is disabled.

  Hi Guys, What is the syntax for searching a file with file name that STARTS with a certain phrase? Example: I have two files: 60933 blahblah.xls PZ 60933 blahblah.xls I would like to search only for the first one but Windows Search always returns two results. I have tried these but none of them seem to work: filename:60933 filename:^60933* filename:60933..xls My setup: Windows XP Pro CZ, Windows Search 4, files are located on indexed network share.

• How can I keep track of SQL Server cummulative updates?

  Hi, If I am not mistaken, SQL server cannot be automatically updated via the regular windows backup routine. Instead, there are cummulative updates that need to be installed by hand. I assume this is done for security and stability reasons. Is this correct? If so, how can I keep track of new updates without regularly reading SQL server related blogs? Is there any low-volume newsletter I can subscribe (ideally only announcing critical updates)?

• Boost Audio Input on OS X?

  I'm using my 13" Mac Book Pro's audio input functionality with an external microphone (recent vintage, bought around Thanksgiving). I've increased my input volume to the maximum in system preference, but the resulting recorded volume (using iShowU HD) is very low. Is there anyway to increase the input volume/sensitivity beyond Apple's default settings? I've found plenty on google about increasing the OUTPUT volume, but I want to increase the input volume.

  My Lenovo x100e laptop has a "4-in-1" card reader that's supposed to handle SD/SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, but I can't insert my SDHC card (a "SANDISK SECURE DIGITAL EXTREME SDHC 16GB 30MB/S"). It enters a bit and looks lite it will fit, but then it doesn't get any further in (and yes, I've tried to turn it around). It really doesn't move, and I'm afraid to break something if I push harder.   I have all PostgreSQL databases backed up during incremental backups using WHM, which creates a $dbName.tar file. Data is stored in these .tar files, but I do not know how to restore it back into the individual databases via SSH. In particular the file location. I have been using: pg_restore -d client03 /backup/cpbackup/daily/client03/psql/client03.tar which generates the error 'could not open input file: Permission denied' Any assistance appreciated.

  So, my windows laptop is on its last legs and I'm thinking of shelling out for a Macbook Pro. However, I do some (but not a lot) of ASP.NET development, and so would need to install Visual Studio of some version using something like VMWare Fusion. Has anyone had any success doing this?   We set the Group Policy for our Domain and OUs to show the logon message: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\ Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on but nothing happen when the client computer logon. I checked the RSOP.MSC to see the group policy that set and the message is set on client computer but it doesn't show at the logon prompt. so what should I do? We have Windows server 2003 AD and Windows XP Pro on client computer.

  I have an HP Officejet 8600 Pro that has faxing capabilities. However I do not send faxes often and I do not need to pay for a dedicated fax number/line. I'm aggregating lots of backup CDs as archival hard drives - this means i can't trust the file date when checking for dupes.
