• How can I vary the height of some keys within a row?

  I'm creating a custom keyboard layout. The SDK allows changing the width of keys in a row (as in ThickButtons), but ideally I'd like to be able to vary both the height and width of keys within a row (and still have the keys occupy all the available space.) Another way of looking at this is that I want to allow some keys to be in more than one contiguous row. Any ideas would help. Thank you.

  I'm using UIImagePickerController with the camera as the sourceType. I am also drawing a custom overlay on the picker using the built-in overlay functionality(picker.overlay = myOverlay). How can I get an UIImage of the camera, excluding my overlay?. I tried using UIGetScreenImage() but that captures my overlay as well.

Now apparently they use their own custom compiler and language that will translate the source code to more "accessible" languages such as PHP and (I think) C#. Is there a name for this language? What does a hello world look like in it? Is there any hope of seeing this compiler released to the public?

Why can't I get the .gcli-panel-connector <div> to cover up the .gcli-tt <div>'s border? I think it has something to do with the z-index. • What is the easiest straightforward way of telling which version performs better?

  I have an application, which I have re-factored so that I believe it is now faster. One can't possibly feel the difference, but in theory, the application should run faster. Normally I would not care, but as this is part of my project for my master's degree, I would like to support my claim that the re-factoring did not only lead to improved design and 'higher quality', but also an increase in performance of the application (a small toy-thing - a train set simulation). I have toyed with the latest VisualVM thing today for about four hours but I couldn't get anything helpful out of it. There isn't (or I haven't found it) a way to simply compare the profiling results taken from the two versions (pre- and post- refactoring). What would be the easiest, the most straightforward way of simply telling the slower from the faster version of the application. The difference of the two must have had an impact on the performance.   I have a custom tableViewCell with a UITextLabel inside it. When the cell is first displayed, the place holder is shown and then disappears when the user types something in. What I want is to go back to the parent view, and then to the sub view again, and that the field will show the text that the user previously typed. If I set the text field, simply with setText, the textField is not editable. Any idea?

  Something I think Jeff & Joel touched on in an early stackoverflow podcast, though I don’t remember if they reached a conclusion: which curriculum is better preparation for a career as a developer and software entrepreneur, computer science in the liberal arts college, or software engineering in the engineering school? or, put another way, which credential should I look for in someone being added to my team, or to hire for my company (if I had one . . . )? I've tried using except and intersect to compare subsets of first table with the second table, which works fine, but it takes too long on the intersect part and I can't figure out why (the first table has about 10.000 records and the second has around 10). • MSI not running the current version of the code in .NET Setup project.

  I'm not sure what happened, but my installer is in a weird state--when I install my MSI, it doesn't seem to be running the current version of the code (I'm using Custom Actions). I verified it by placing some MessageBox.Shows and sure enough, they are not popping up. It's possible I may have had a few unsuccessful installs previously which may have put the installer in a bad state...but how do I go about resolving this? Thanks...

  I want to build a speech recognition engine in ruby. I know i'll never get there, doing it just for fun. I need to get data for the frequencies of the sound stored in a wav file to compare with data i already have of different sounds that i want to recognize. I will write the code in ruby but i dont think there are any libraries for this written in ruby, they would be too slow if there were any anyway. The good thing about ruby is I'll be able to use libraries for .net via IronRuby or Java via Jruby. How can i get the frequency data?

• Best way to move a bunch of SQL Server 2005 tables to another Server?

  I've been looking for a way to move a bunch of tables, more than 40, to another server with all the data in them. I've looked around for scripts to generate inserts but so far I'd have to run them once for every table, then copy all the scripts over and then run them on the server. Seems like there is a better way. --Update-- My strategy for doing this may have been for naught. The end script, using MS SQL Server Publishing Wizard and Red Gates SQL Data Compare (excellent tool, btw) results in a file over 1GB. This makes my system plead for mercy and I'm not willing to risk crashing a clients server just opening the file to run it. I may have to rethink this whole thing and break down to just individual per table scripts. I'm not looking forward to that.

• Does Visual Studio 2010 on x64 crash often? Or is it just on my PC?

  MY VS2010 crashes dozens of times a day. Compare that to 2008 and 2005 which were rock solid. Is 2010 known to be susceptible to crashing? Or could it be my environment? I'm using x64 as a dev box for the first time. The only plugin I has so far is Ankh. It crashes when doing different things. One I've noticed so far that always happens is if I press the key sequence alt-f-s-up (or any cursor key) it will crash every time.

  Trying to optimize my MUI 2 NSIS setup in which I do some ExecWait calls in the .onInstSuccess callback function, I was searching through the documentation to find a callback that is called: after the files are all copied -and- before the wizard page is being switched from the file copy page to the finish page. Unfortunately, I found no such callback. Therefore my question is: Is it possible to do some custom processing after the files are copied and before the wizard page is being switched away from the file copy page?
