• How to create a bootable USB stick?

  I am looking at this: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu I need to create a boot disk to test Ubuntu to make sure it will run on a PC (Compaq Mini CQ10-120LA) I was given. I can create the boot disk off of a Mac (in English) or Windows (but Windows is in Spanish and foreign to me). Questions: What format do I choose for the USB stick? (I wish the instructions stated this). What is Dash? (Will I know when I run the installer?) Can I do this from a Mac or Windows computer? Or only from Ubuntu?

• What is a good network for full-page rich ads?

  I'm currently developing a website where users will be able to upload content. I would like to be able to show a full-page ad whenever someone tries to view the content. The ad should take up most of the screen, and I should be able to have a "continue to the content --" link at the top. Preferably, I want something like what is currently on Forbes (if you haven't seen it, here: http://www.forbes.com/fdc/welcome.shtml but with an ad in the black area). • Configuring Dropbox on Ubuntu server

  I've got a Ubuntu server running on an old laptop. The OS is on a 4GB USB drive and I use a SATA drive attached for storage. Now I wanted to set up Dropbox on this machine. I've got it running using this guide: http://www.byteindia.com/internet/install-dropbox-on-linux/482/. But I haven't synched yet because there won't be enough room in my home dir. My /home is on my 4GB USB since I never use it and all my data is on the 2TB drive mounted in /media/. What is the best way to set this up? Dropbox doesn't support moving the folder in Linux yet. I found a script to move the folder but it seems outdated. Perhaps I can use symlinks in some clever way? Or maybe move my /home folder to my SATA drive? Thanks in advance

• Minecraft becomes blank after loading

  I have Minecraft installed but whenever I open it, it shows the login screen, so I login, and then when I click login, the window turns black. When I tried to play in in browser, the same thing happened except the window turned whit. Please help guys! I feel like I've tried EVERYTHING! For example (I'm not sure if there is a special name for this effect): A character may leave footprints that fade after x number of seconds Or, a tank may leave a tracks trail as in Civilization IV. • Need a non-X terminal for the nvidia driver installation

  When I try to install the nvidia driver for my video card, I receive an error message. ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing. • Infinite terrain shadows

  I'm creating an infinite terrain engine, which generates the terrain either with fractals or noise. How can I make dynamic shadows for the sun on this terrain, if I don't know in advance what will be rendered in front of the sun. My terrain: The sun is the only light, it is directional, my terrain is generated on a plane which is positioned before the camera, frustum culled and fits the size of the viewing frustum. • Broken Links in different browsers

  Hi I'm having problems with our website, http://www.accessiblehomehealthcare.com, which is a wordpress 2.7 (version). All of a sudden our RSS links broke on the right side, which has happened before and I fixed it within 5 mins. Now, when I fix it, it doesn't look right in different version of I.E. or Firefox, I have I.E. 8 and Firefox 3.6.15 and it looks good for the most part, but there are a few parts where the links are broken. One browser the links would look ok but go to another page and the links or logos would be broken. Certain parts of the website should be static(identical) to the other pages of the site, but if a link is broken on one page, its perfect on another page. I was wondering was there a secret code for wordpress to keep the sites compatible with all browser versions or is there a bigger issue???? Any help or suggestions will help???

  I was looking for a PHP form generator this morning and ran across "Instant Form Pro" by Joel Comm (http://www.instantformpro.com). It looks like it offers what I'm looking for (easy to use quick form generator based on PHP and MySQL that's self-hosted with no other fees), but the site smacks of "scam." It's being pitched as a way to generate surveys to increase your business, make lots more money, etc. Is this thing worth the $97 or is there an open source alternative that might be... safer?

• Using .add() on the same widget more than once

So here is my code, self.ui.labels = [] for titles in entries: label = Gtk.Label() self.ui.labels.append(label) self.ui.viewport1.add(self.ui.labels[-1]) self.ui.paned1.show_all() Now, for fun I decided "What would happen if I just manually did..." self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Label()) self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Button()) self.ui.viewport1.add(Gtk.Entry()) For my first code snippet I get this error, Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_viewport_add: assertion gtk_bin_get_child (bin) == NULL' failed The error happens an unknown amount of times because the list entries can vary in length, but for my second code snippet it happens exactly twice. This means that when I viewport1.add() it works the first time, but all adds after that receive the error above. So my question, is there a way in python to use .add() on the same widget more than once?

• Energy saving with two batteries (Gigabyte S1080 and similar)

  my today question is: how do I manage a tablet (Gigabyte 1080) with an additional battery in Ubuntu ? The control bar shows two separate batteries but starts to suck all the energy from the secundary battery, not leaving any power in it and ruining it (if I don't remove it earlier), and then starts with the primary battery.   It seems possible (as I learned from a comment to this question made by user55822) to use Artha in order to search a term on the Internet by using "keybinding". What the aforementioned user says is that "you could search mouse selection anywhere by using an app like Artha, or by keybinding sh -c 'firefox "http://translate.google.com/#en/fr/$(xclip -o)"' (example given translate english into french)" A lot of things are obscure for me here. I could use Artha or keybinding (as alternative), or both? How to do that in each case? and "The command I gave you will open google translate in Firefox with your mouse selection (text highlighted) as a query. Use sh -c 'firefox "https://www.google.com/search?q=$(xclip -o)"' if you want regular Google over Google translate. And obviously, that would work everywhere" I do not know what to do with that formula. What should I do exactly? How to use it? In what application?

• Uploading Files Using ASP.NET Web Forms, Generic Handler and jQuery

  In order to upload files from the client machine to the server ASP.NET developers use FileUpload server control. The FileUpload server control essentially renders an INPUT element with its type set to file and allows you to select one or more files. The actual upload operation is performed only when the form is posted to the server. Instead of making a full page postback you can use jQuery to make an Ajax call to the server and POST the selected files to a generic handler (.ashx). The generic handler can then save the files to a specified folder.
