  • Listing serial (COM) ports on Windows?

    - by Eli Bendersky
    Hello, I'm looking for a robust way to list the available serial (COM) ports on a Windows machine. There's this post about using WMI, but I would like something less .NET specific - I want to get the list of ports in a Python or a C++ program, without .NET. I currently know of two other approaches: Reading the information in the HARDWARE\\DEVICEMAP\\SERIALCOMM registry key. This looks like a great option, but is it robust? I can't find a guarantee online or in MSDN that this registry cell indeed always holds the full list of available ports. Tryint to call CreateFile on COMN with N a number from 1 to something. This isn't good enough, because some COM ports aren't named COMN. For example, some virtual COM ports created are named CSNA0, CSNB0, and so on, so I wouldn't rely on this method. Any other methods/ideas/experience to share? Edit: by the way, here's a simple Python implementation of reading the port names from registry: import _winreg as winreg import itertools def enumerate_serial_ports(): """ Uses the Win32 registry to return a iterator of serial (COM) ports existing on this computer. """ path = 'HARDWARE\\DEVICEMAP\\SERIALCOMM' try: key = winreg.OpenKey(winreg.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, path) except WindowsError: raise IterationError for i in itertools.count(): try: val = winreg.EnumValue(key, i) yield (str(val[1]), str(val[0])) except EnvironmentError: break

  • Delphi: Alternative to using Reset/ReadLn for text file reading

    - by Ian Boyd
    i want to process a text file line by line. In the olden days i loaded the file into a StringList: slFile := TStringList.Create(); slFile.LoadFromFile(filename); for i := 0 to slFile.Count-1 do begin oneLine := slFile.Strings[i]; //process the line end; Problem with that is once the file gets to be a few hundred megabytes, i have to allocate a huge chunk of memory; when really i only need enough memory to hold one line at a time. (Plus, you can't really indicate progress when you the system is locked up loading the file in step 1). The i tried using the native, and recommended, file I/O routines provided by Delphi: var f: TextFile; begin Reset(f, filename); while ReadLn(f, oneLine) do begin //process the line end; Problem withAssign is that there is no option to read the file without locking (i.e. fmShareDenyNone). The former stringlist example doesn't support no-lock either, unless you change it to LoadFromStream: slFile := TStringList.Create; stream := TFileStream.Create(filename, fmOpenRead or fmShareDenyNone); slFile.LoadFromStream(stream); stream.Free; for i := 0 to slFile.Count-1 do begin oneLine := slFile.Strings[i]; //process the line end; So now even though i've gained no locks being held, i'm back to loading the entire file into memory. Is there some alternative to Assign/ReadLn, where i can read a file line-by-line, without taking a sharing lock? i'd rather not get directly into Win32 CreateFile/ReadFile, and having to deal with allocating buffers and detecting CR, LF, CRLF's. i thought about memory mapped files, but there's the difficulty if the entire file doesn't fit (map) into virtual memory, and having to maps views (pieces) of the file at a time. Starts to get ugly. i just want Reset with fmShareDenyNone!

  • How to create share for a whole drive under WiX?

    - by mem64k
    I would like to create a share for a whole drive in my WiX installer project. The default approach for share creation works just fine for folders, but not for drives! The following code snippet illustrates the problem: <!-- Works! --> <Property Id="MySharePath"><![CDATA[X:\ROOT]]></Property> <!-- Works NOT! <Property Id="MySharePath"><![CDATA[X:\]]></Property> --> <Directory Id="MySharePath" Name="."> <Component Id="C__AddShare" Guid="$(var.GuidAddhare)" KeyPath="no" Permanent="yes"> <CreateFolder/> <!-- Create necessary share --> <util:FileShare Id="MY_SHARE" Name="MY_SHARE" Description="MY_SHARE"> <util:FileSharePermission ChangePermission="yes" CreateChild="yes" CreateFile="yes" Delete="yes" DeleteChild="yes" GenericAll="yes" GenericExecute="yes" GenericRead="yes" GenericWrite="yes" Read="yes" ReadAttributes="yes" ReadExtendedAttributes="yes" ReadPermission="yes" Synchronize="yes" TakeOwnership="yes" Traverse="yes" User="LukeSkywalker" WriteAttributes="yes" WriteExtendedAttributes="yes"/> </util:FileShare> </Component> </Directory> Does anybody has a hint for this?

  • What can be the reason for Windows error ERROR_DISK_FULL (112) when opening a NTFS alternate data st

    - by ur
    My application writes some bytes of data to an alternate data stream. This works fine on all but one machine (Windows Server 2003 SP2). Instead, CreateFile returns ERROR_DISK_FULL when I try to create an alternate data stream (on the root directory). I don't find the reason for this result, because... There's plenty of space on that drive. The drive is NTFS formatted (due to GetVolumeInformation). The drive supports altenate data streams (due to GetVolumeInformation). Edit: I can provide some more information about what the reason not is: I added many streams on a test system which didn't show the error and wondered if the error might occur. It didn't. Instead after about 2000 Streams with long file names another error occurred and persisted: 1450 (ERROR_NO_SYSTEM_RESOURCES). EDIT: Here is an example for one of the used file names: char szStreamFileName[] = "C:\\:abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnoqrstuvwxyz012345"; EDIT: Our customer uses some corporate antivirus software from Avira on this server. Maybe this is the reason (Alternate data streams can be abused by malware).

  • Reverse reading WORD from a binary file?

    - by Angel
    Hi, I have a structure: struct JFIF_HEADER { WORD marker[2]; // = 0xFFD8FFE0 WORD length; // = 0x0010 BYTE signature[5]; // = "JFIF\0" BYTE versionhi; // = 1 BYTE versionlo; // = 1 BYTE xyunits; // = 0 WORD xdensity; // = 1 WORD ydensity; // = 1 BYTE thumbnwidth; // = 0 BYTE thumbnheight; // = 0 }; This is how I read it from the file: HANDLE file = CreateFile(filename, GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0); DWORD tmp = 0; DWORD size = GetFileSize(file, &tmp); BYTE *DATA = new BYTE[size]; ReadFile(file, DATA, size, &tmp, 0); JFIF_HEADER header; memcpy(&header, DATA, sizeof(JFIF_HEADER)); This is how the beginning of my file looks in hex editor: 0xFF 0xD8 0xFF 0xE0 0x00 0x10 0x4A 0x46 0x49 0x46 0x00 0x01 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x01 When I print header.marker, it shows exactly what it should (0xFFD8FFE0). But when I print header.length, it shows 0x1000 instead of 0x0010. The same thing is with xdensity and ydensity. Why do I get wrong data when reading a WORD? Thank you.

  • How to properly recreate BITMAP, that was previously shared by CreateFileMapping()?

    - by zim22
    Dear friends, I need your help. I need to send .bmp file to another process (dialog box) and display it there, using MMF(Memory Mapped File) But the problem is that image displays in reversed colors and upside down. In first application I open picture from HDD and link it to the named MMF "Gigabyte_picture" HANDLE hFile = CreateFile("123.bmp", GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); CreateFileMapping(hFile, NULL, PAGE_READONLY, 0, 0, "Gigabyte_picture"); In second application I open mapped bmp file and at the end I display m_HBitmap on the static component, using SendMessage function. HANDLE hMappedFile = OpenFileMapping(FILE_MAP_READ, FALSE, "Gigabyte_picture"); PBYTE pbData = (PBYTE) MapViewOfFile(hMappedFile, FILE_MAP_READ, 0, 0, 0); BITMAPINFO bmpInfo = { 0 }; LONG lBmpSize = 60608; // size of the bmp file in bytes bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biBitCount = 32; bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biHeight = 174; bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biWidth = 87; bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biPlanes = 1; bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biSizeImage = lBmpSize; bmpInfo.bmiHeader.biSize = sizeof(BITMAPINFOHEADER); UINT * pPixels = 0; HDC hDC = CreateCompatibleDC(NULL); HBITMAP m_HBitmap = CreateDIBSection(hDC, &bmpInfo, DIB_RGB_COLORS, (void **)& pPixels, NULL, 0); SetBitmapBits(m_HBitmap, lBmpSize, pbData); SendMessage(gStaticBox, STM_SETIMAGE, (WPARAM)IMAGE_BITMAP,(LPARAM)m_HBitmap); ///////////// HWND gStaticBox = CreateWindowEx(0, "STATIC","", SS_CENTERIMAGE | SS_REALSIZEIMAGE | SS_BITMAP | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE, 10,10,380, 380, myDialog, (HMENU)-1,NULL,NULL);

  • WinUSB failing on non-development computers

    - by Giawa
    Good afternoon, WinUSB is working well on the development computer that I am using (Win XP SP3). I am able to download new firmware to the Cypress FX2, and then connect to the new USB device once it 'renumerates'. However, if I've tried the same code with the WinUSB driver on a few other computers (Win XP SP3, Win7 x64) and they both returned the error "A device attached to the system is not functioning." when trying to use CreateFile to get a handle to the USB device. The devicePath was found successfully, so I'm not sure why it cannot connect to the device. Furthermore, the device manager states that my device is working properly. I'm curious if I'm missing something when compiling the code? I would guess that my development computer has something installed on it that the other computers do not? Or perhaps it's a power setting and the device is going to sleep (although I've fooled around with the Power Options on each computer to no avail). Does anyone have any ideas? I've compiled under Visual Studio 2008, and have installed the Microsoft C++ 2008 Redistributable Package on the computers that I've tested on. Thanks, Giawa

  • What wrapper class in C++ should I use for automated resource management?

    - by Vilx-
    I'm a C++ amateur. I'm writing some Win32 API code and there are handles and weirdly compositely allocated objects aplenty. So I was wondering - is there some wrapper class that would make resource management easier? For example, when I want to load some data I open a file with CreateFile() and get a HANDLE. When I'm done with it, I should call CloseHandle() on it. But for any reasonably complex loading function there will be dozens of possible exit points, not to mention exceptions. So it would be great if I could wrap the handle in some kind of wrapper class which would automatically call CloseHandle() once execution left the scope. Even better - it could do some reference counting so I can pass it around in and out of other functions, and it would release the resource only when the last reference left scope. The concept is simple - but is there something like that in the standard library? I'm using Visual Studio 2008, by the way, and I don't want to attach a 3rd party framework like Boost or something.

  • Windows File I/O Reading

    - by eyeanand
    Currently working on open/read images in VC++. Some examples i came across on the internet use Windows.h I/O routines like ReadFile...but there seems to be inconsistency in there declaration. Here's what i have got. //So i have this function to load file BYTE* LoadFile ( int* width, int* height, long* size, LPCWSTR bmpfile ) { BITMAPFILEHEADER bmpheader; BITMAPINFOHEADER bmpinfo; DWORD bytesread = 0; HANDLE file = CreateFile ( bmpfile , GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ,NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_FLAG_SEQUENTIAL_SCAN, NULL ); if ( NULL == file ) return NULL; if ( ReadFile ( file, &bmpheader, sizeof ( BITMAPFILEHEADER ),&bytesread, NULL ) == false ) { CloseHandle ( file ); return NULL; } . . . return appropriate value; } Now the ReadFile API function is declared as follows in WinBase.h WINBASEAPI BOOL WINAPI ReadFile( In HANDLE hFile, Out LPVOID lpBuffer, In DWORD nNumberOfBytesToRead, _Out_opt_ LPDWORD lpNumberOfBytesRead, _Inout_opt_ LPOVERLAPPED lpOverlapped ); And in MSDN examples... They call this function like this. ReadFile(hFile, chBuffer, BUFSIZE, &dwBytesRead, NULL) Which expects that "bytesRead" is sort of out parameter. so it gives me number of bytes read. But in my code ..it is giving error message. 'ReadFile' : cannot convert parameter 4 from 'LPDWORD *' to 'LPDWORD' so i just initialized bytesRead to 0 and passed by value.( which is wrong..but just to check if it works ). then it gives this exception Unhandled exception at 0x774406ae in ImProc.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000. Kindly suggest . Kindly tell if any code i missed out....including while forming the question itself. Thanks.

  • Excel on Mac Mini OS X Version 10.7.2 - Create text file named after a cell containing other cell data from other cells

    - by user143041
    I tried using the code below for the Excel program on my `Mac Mini using the OS X Version 10.7.2 and it keeps saying Error due to file name / path: (The Excel fiel I am creating is going to be a template with my formulas and macros installed which will be used over and over). Sub CreateFile() Do While Not IsEmpty(ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1)) MyFile = ActiveCell.Value & ".txt" fnum = FreeFile() Open MyFile For Output As fnum Print #fnum, ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1) & " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 2) Close #fnum ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select Loop End Sub What Im trying to do: 1st Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:A is what I need the name of the file to be. B:2 is the content I need in the text file. So, A2 - "repair-video-game-Glassboro-NJ-08028.txt" is the file name and B2 to be the content in the file. Next, A3 is the file name and B3 is the content for the file, etc. ONCE the content reads what is in cell A16 and B16 (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can delete the additional files created. This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? 2nd Objective I would like to have the following data to be used to create a text file. A:1 is what I need the name of the file to be. B:B is the content I want in the file. So, A2 - is the file name "geo-sitemap.xml" and B:B to be the content in the file (ignore the .xml file extension in the photo). ONCE the content cell reads what is in cell "B16" (length will vary), the file creation should stop, if not then I can adjust the cells that have need content (formulated content you see in the image is preset for 500 rows). This sheet will never change. Is there a way to establish the excel macro to always go to this sheet instead of have to select it with the mouse to identify the starting point? I can Provide the content in the cells that are filled in by excel formulas that are not not to be included in the .txt files. It is ok if it is not possible. I can delete the extra cells that are not populated (based on the data sheet). Please let me know if you need any more additional information or clarity and I will be happy to provide it. I really appreciate your help! Thank you

  • Unable to use TweetDeck on Windows due to "Ooops, TweetDeck can't find your data" and "Sorry, Adobe

    - by Matt
    I'm running Adobe AIR 1.5.2 (latest) on Windows 7 (64-bit RTM) and downloaded TweetDeck 0.31.1 (latest). When I run TweetDeck I get the following errors: Ooops, TweetDeck can't find your data and Sorry, Adobe AIR has a problem running on this computer Other AIR applications install and run fine. I've uninstalled both TweetDeck and AIR and reinstalled. Following the uninstalls I've also removed all on-disk references to both TweetDeck and AIR, but no luck. UPDATE: Using Process Monitor I did a trace of Tweetdeck from the moment it launched until the first error occurred. I saw the following information in the output of the trace: 1 5:22:18.6522338 PM TweetDeck.exe 5580 CreateFile D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\??\d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS\TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak NAME INVALID Desired Access: Generic Write, Read Attributes, Disposition: OverwriteIf, Options: Synchronous IO Non-Alert, Non-Directory File, Attributes: N, ShareMode: Read, Write, AllocationSize: 0 In this trace output, Tweetdeck.exe is trying to create the file D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\??\d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS\TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak but the path specified is invalid. When looking at the path you can see that it is indeed an invalid path. First, there’s the “??” portion which doesn’t exist in the file system since the “?” is an invalid character in Windows/NTFS file systems. Additionally, looking at this path, it actually seems to be composed of two parts (is the "??" a delimiter?): Part 1: D:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\rs\?? Part 2: d:\Use\myusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ELS \TweetDeckFast.F9107117265DB7542C1A806C8DB837742CE14C21.1\PrivateEncryptedDatak (the problem here is that d:\Use... doesn’t even exist. What seems to be happening here is that Tweetdeck is looking for the user credentials (the “PrivateEncryptedDatak” file) but it’s looking in the wrong place, can’t find the file, and hence the error that Tweetdeck is giving (shown in the screenshot). I'm trying to determine how TweetDeck is getting this path. I searched the contents of all files on my hard disk hoping to find some TweetDeck or Adobe AIR configuration file containing this incorrect path, but I was unable to find anything. UPDATE: See Carl's comment regarding directory junctions and symbolic links under my accepted answer. This ended up being the problem. Edit by Gnoupi: People, the answer section is there to provide an actual ANSWER, not to say you have the same issue. It doesn't help anyone that you have the same problem. Eventually, if you think this is really worth mentioning, put it as a comment under the question. But simply, if what you want to add is not an answer to the question, then don't post it as an answer. This is not a forum, I recommend new users to read the FAQ: http://superuser.com/faq

  • Need an excel macro to produce a formatted text file

    - by user139238
    I am just learning how to make macros and I found a macro that nearly does what I need it to do, which is output a text file from Excel. What I need it to do is output this in a .mhd format, which I have done, and then take all the data written in the #fnum cells and place a return after each in the Excel file. Essentially I just need all the data to have their a specific line in the text file. I am certain there is an elegant way to go about this, but I can't seem to get it. Sub CreateFile() Do While Not IsEmpty(ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1)) MyFile = ActiveCell.Value & ".mhd" 'set and open file for output fnum = FreeFile() Open MyFile For Output As fnum 'use Print when you want the string without quotation marks Print #fnum, ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 6); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 7); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 8); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 9); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 10); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 11); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 12); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 13); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 14); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 15); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 16); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 17); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 18); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 19); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 20); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 21); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 22); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 23); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 24); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 25); " " & ActiveCell.Offset(0, 26) Close #fnum ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select Loop End Sub

  • jQuery post request is not sent until first post request is compleated

    - by Champ
    I have a function which have a long execution time. public void updateCampaign() { context.Session[processId] = "0|Fetching Lead360 Campaign"; Lead360 objLead360 = new Lead360(); string campaignXML = objLead360.getCampaigns(); string todayDate = DateTime.Now.ToString("dd-MMMM-yyyy"); context.Session[processId] = "1|Creating File for Lead360 Campaign on " + todayDate; string fileName = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("campaigns") + todayDate + ".xml"; objLead360.createFile(fileName, campaignXML); context.Session[processId] = "2|Reading The latest Lead360 Campaign"; string file = File.ReadAllText(fileName); context.Session[processId] = "3|Updating Lead360 Campaign"; string updateStatus = objLead360.updateCampaign(fileName); string[] statusArr = updateStatus.Split('|'); context.Session[processId] = "99|" + statusArr[0] + " New Inserted , " + statusArr[1] + " Updated , With " + statusArr[2] + " Error , "; } So to track the Progress of the function I wrote a another function public void getProgress() { if (context.Session[processId] == null) { string json = "{\"error\":true}"; Response.Write(json); Response.End(); }else{ string[] status = context.Session[processId].ToString().Split('|'); if (status[0] == "99") context.Session.Remove(processId); string json = "{\"error\":false,\"statuscode\":" + status[0] + ",\"statusmsz\":\"" + status[1] + "\" }"; Response.Write(json); Response.End(); } } To call this by jQuery post request is used reqUrl = "AjaxPages/lead360Campaign.aspx?processid=" + progressID + "&action=updatecampaign"; $.post(reqUrl); setTimeout(getProgress, 500); get getProgress is : function getProgress() { reqUrl = "AjaxPages/lead360Campaign.aspx?processid=" + progressID + "&action=getProgress"; $.post(reqUrl, function (response) { var progress = jQuery.parseJSON(response); console.log(progress) if (progress.error) { $("#fetchedCampaign .waitingMsz").html("Some error occured. Please try again later."); $("#fetchedCampaign .waitingMsz").css({ "background": "url(common/images/ajax_error.jpg) no-repeat center 6px" }); return; } if (progress.statuscode == 99) { $("#fetchedCampaign .waitingMsz").html("Update Status :"+ progress.statusmsz ); $("#fetchedCampaign .waitingMsz").css({ "background": "url(common/images/ajax_loded.jpg) no-repeat center 6px" }); return; } $("#fetchedCampaign .waitingMsz").html("Please Wait... " + progress.statusmsz); setTimeout(getProgress, 500); }); } But the problem is that I can't see the intermediate message. Only the last message is been displayed after a long lime of ajax loading message Also on the browser console I just see that after a long time first requested is completed and after that the second request is completed. but there should be for getProgress ? I have checked jquery.doc and it says that $post is an asynchronous request. Can anyone please explain what is wrong with the code or logic?

  • FILE_NOT_FOUND when trying to open COM port C++

    - by Moutabreath
    I am trying to open a com port for reading and writing using C++ but I can't seem to pass the first stage of actually opening it. I get an INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE on the handle with GetLastError FILE_NOT_FOUND. I have searched around the web for a couple of days I'm fresh out of ideas. I have searched through all the questions regarding COM on this website too. I have scanned through the existing ports (or so I believe) to get the name of the port right. I also tried combinations of _T("COM1") with the slashes, without the slashes, with colon, without colon and without the _T I'm using windows 7 on 64 bit machine. this is the code i got I'll be glad for any input on this void SendToCom(char* data, int len) { DWORD cbNeeded = 0; DWORD dwPorts = 0; EnumPorts(NULL, 1, NULL, 0, &cbNeeded, &dwPorts); //What will be the return value BOOL bSuccess = FALSE; LPCSTR COM1 ; BYTE* pPorts = static_cast<BYTE*>(malloc(cbNeeded)); bSuccess = EnumPorts(NULL, 1, pPorts, cbNeeded, &cbNeeded, &dwPorts); if (bSuccess){ PORT_INFO_1* pPortInfo = reinterpret_cast<PORT_INFO_1*>(pPorts); for (DWORD i=0; i<dwPorts; i++) { //If it looks like "COMX" then size_t nLen = _tcslen(pPortInfo->pName); if (nLen > 3) { if ((_tcsnicmp(pPortInfo->pName, _T("COM"), 3) == 0) ){ COM1 =pPortInfo->pName; //COM1 ="\\\\.\\COM1"; HANDLE m_hCommPort = CreateFile( COM1 , GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE, // access ( read and write) 0, // (share) 0:cannot share the COM port NULL, // security (None) OPEN_EXISTING, // creation : open_existing FILE_FLAG_OVERLAPPED, // we want overlapped operation NULL // no templates file for COM port... ); if (m_hCommPort==INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { DWORD err = GetLastError(); if (err == ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND) { MessageBox(hWnd,"ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } else if(err == ERROR_INVALID_NAME) { MessageBox(hWnd,"ERROR_INVALID_NAME",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } else { MessageBox(hWnd,"unkown error",NULL,MB_ABORTRETRYIGNORE); } } else{ WriteAndReadPort(m_hCommPort,data); } } pPortInfo++; } } } }

  • Windows CE Programming Serial Port - Getting Garbled Output

    - by user576639
    I am programming a Windows CE 6 device (Motorola MC3100 scanner Terminal). Using Lazarus FPC to compile it. After 3 weeks work I reluctantly post here in the hope someone can suggest why I am getting garbled output from the serial port. The code I am using is posted below. This is the standard code I have found from several places. The OpenPort works OK. When I send the string using SendString('ABCDEF') I get garbled input to the PC Serial port such as: 4[#131][#26][#0][#0][#0][#0] (the bracketed data indicates that it is a non-printable character ASCII Code) Obviously it is connecting to the port OK AND it is sending the correct no of characters (7). I have tried all combinations of Baud Rate, Data Bits, Parity and Stop Bits without any joy. Also tried changing cable, on a different PC etc. Could it be I need to set something else in the DCB? Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. unit Unit1; {$mode objfpc}{$H+} interface uses Classes, SysUtils, FileUtil, Forms, Controls, Graphics, Dialogs, StdCtrls, ExtCtrls, Windows, LResources; type { TForm1 } TForm1 = class(TForm) Button1: TButton; Button2: TButton; Label1: TLabel; procedure Button1Click(Sender: TObject); procedure Button2Click(Sender: TObject); function OpenPort(ComPort:String;BaudRate,ByteSize,Parity,StopBits:integer):String; procedure SendString(str:String); private { private declarations } public { public declarations } end; var Form1: TForm1; cc:TCOMMCONFIG; Connected:Boolean; implementation {$R *.lfm} var F: TextFile; var hComm: THandle; str: String; lrc: LongWord; { TForm1 } function OpenPort(ComPort:String;BaudRate,ByteSize,Parity,StopBits:integer):String; var cc:TCOMMCONFIG; SWide:WideString; Port:LPCWSTR; begin SWide:=ComPort; Port:=PWideChar(SWide); result:=''; if (1=1) then begin Connected:=False; hComm:=CreateFile(Port, GENERIC_READ or GENERIC_WRITE,0, nil,OPEN_EXISTING,0,0); if (hComm = INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) then begin ShowMessage('Fail to Open'); exit; end; GetCommState(hComm,cc.dcb); cc.dcb.BaudRate:=BaudRate; cc.dcb.ByteSize:=ByteSize; cc.dcb.Parity:=Parity; cc.dcb.StopBits:=StopBits; if not SetCommState(hComm, cc.dcb) then begin result:='SetCommState Error!'; CloseHandle(hComm); exit; end; Connected:=True; end; end; procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); begin OpenPort('COM1:',9600,8,0,0); end; procedure TForm1.Button2Click(Sender: TObject); begin SendString('ABCDEFG'); end; procedure TForm1.SendString(str:String); var lrc:LongWord; begin if (hComm=0) then exit; try if not PurgeComm(hComm, PURGE_TXABORT or PURGE_TXCLEAR) then raise Exception.Create('Unable to purge com: '); except Exit; end; WriteFile(hComm,str,Length(str), lrc, nil); end; end.

  • How do you send a named pipe string from umnanaged to managed code space?

    - by billmcf
    I appear to have a named pipes 101 issue. I have a very simple set up to connect a simplex named pipe transmitting from a C++ unmanaged app to a C# managed app. The pipe connects, but I cannot send a "message" through the pipe unless I close the handle which appears to flush the buffer and pass the message through. It's like the message is blocked. I have tried reversing the roles of client/server and invoking them with different Flag combinations without any luck. I can easily send messages in the other direction from C# managed to C++ unmanaged. Does anyone have any insight. Can any of you guys successfully send messages from C++ unmanaged to C# managed? I can find plenty of examples of intra amanged or unmanaged pipes but not inter managed to/from unamanged - just claims to be able to do it. In the listings, I have omitted much of the wrapper stuff for clarity. The key bits I believe that are relevant are the pipe connection/creation/read and write methods. Don't worry too much about blocking/threading here. C# Server side // This runs in its own thread and so it is OK to block private void ConnectToClient() { // This server will listen to the sending client if (m_InPipeStream == null) { m_InPipeStream = new NamedPipeServerStream("TestPipe", PipeDirection.In, 1); } // Wait for client to connect to our server m_InPipeStream.WaitForConnection(); // Verify client is running if (!m_InPipeStream.IsConnected) { return; } // Start listening for messages on the client stream if (m_InPipeStream != null && m_InPipeStream.CanRead) { ReadThread = new Thread(new ParameterizedThreadStart(Read)); ReadThread.Start(m_InPipeStream); } } // This runs in its own thread and so it is OK to block private void Read(object serverObj) { NamedPipeServerStream pipeStream = (NamedPipeServerStream)serverObj; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(pipeStream)) { while (true) { string buffer = "" ; try { // Blocks here until the handle is closed by the client-side!! buffer = sr.ReadLine(); // <<<<<<<<<<<<<< Sticks here } catch { // Read error break; } // Client has disconnected? if (buffer == null || buffer.Length == 0) break; // Fire message received event if message is non-empty if (MessageReceived != null && buffer != "") { MessageReceived(buffer); } } } } C++ client side // Static - running in its own thread. DWORD CNamedPipe::ListenForServer(LPVOID arg) { // The calling app (this) is passed as the parameter CNamedPipe* app = (CNamedPipe*)arg; // Out-Pipe: connect as a client to a waiting server app->m_hOutPipeHandle = CreateFile("\\\\.\\pipe\\TestPipe", GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL); // Could not create handle if (app->m_hInPipeHandle == NULL || app->m_hInPipeHandle == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { return 1; } return 0; } // Sends a message to the server BOOL CNamedPipe::SendMessage(CString message) { DWORD dwSent; if (m_hOutPipeHandle == NULL || m_hOutPipeHandle == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { return FALSE; } else { BOOL bOK = WriteFile(m_hOutPipeHandle, message, message.GetLength()+1, &dwSent, NULL); //FlushFileBuffers(m_hOutPipeHandle); // <<<<<<< Tried this return (!bOK || (message.GetLength()+1) != dwSent) ? FALSE : TRUE; } } // Somewhere in the Windows C++/MFC code... ... // This write is non-blocking. It just passes through having loaded the pipe. m_pNamedPipe->SendMessage("Hi de hi"); ...

  • how to mount partitions from USB drives in Windows using Delphi?

    - by user569556
    Hi. I'm a Delphi programmer. I want to mount all partitions from USB drives in Windows (XP). The OS is doing this automatically but there are situations when such a program is useful. I know how to find if a drive is on USB or not. My code so far is: type STORAGE_QUERY_TYPE = (PropertyStandardQuery = 0, PropertyExistsQuery, PropertyMaskQuery, PropertyQueryMaxDefined); TStorageQueryType = STORAGE_QUERY_TYPE; STORAGE_PROPERTY_ID = (StorageDeviceProperty = 0, StorageAdapterProperty); TStoragePropertyID = STORAGE_PROPERTY_ID; STORAGE_PROPERTY_QUERY = packed record PropertyId: STORAGE_PROPERTY_ID; QueryType: STORAGE_QUERY_TYPE; AdditionalParameters: array[0..9] of AnsiChar; end; TStoragePropertyQuery = STORAGE_PROPERTY_QUERY; STORAGE_BUS_TYPE = (BusTypeUnknown = 0, BusTypeScsi, BusTypeAtapi, BusTypeAta, BusType1394, BusTypeSsa, BusTypeFibre, BusTypeUsb, BusTypeRAID, BusTypeiScsi, BusTypeSas, BusTypeSata, BusTypeMaxReserved = $7F); TStorageBusType = STORAGE_BUS_TYPE; STORAGE_DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR = packed record Version: DWORD; Size: DWORD; DeviceType: Byte; DeviceTypeModifier: Byte; RemovableMedia: Boolean; CommandQueueing: Boolean; VendorIdOffset: DWORD; ProductIdOffset: DWORD; ProductRevisionOffset: DWORD; SerialNumberOffset: DWORD; BusType: STORAGE_BUS_TYPE; RawPropertiesLength: DWORD; RawDeviceProperties: array[0..0] of AnsiChar; end; TStorageDeviceDescriptor = STORAGE_DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR; const IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY = $002D1400; var i: Integer; H: THandle; USBDrives: array of Byte; Query: TStoragePropertyQuery; dwBytesReturned: DWORD; Buffer: array[0..1023] of Byte; sdd: TStorageDeviceDescriptor absolute Buffer; begin SetLength(UsbDrives, 0); SetErrorMode(SEM_FAILCRITICALERRORS); for i := 0 to 99 do begin H := CreateFile(PChar('\\.\PhysicalDrive' + IntToStr(i)), 0, FILE_SHARE_READ or FILE_SHARE_WRITE, nil, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, 0); if H <> INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE then begin try dwBytesReturned := 0; FillChar(Query, SizeOf(Query), 0); FillChar(Buffer, SizeOf(Buffer), 0); sdd.Size := SizeOf(Buffer); Query.PropertyId := StorageDeviceProperty; Query.QueryType := PropertyStandardQuery; if DeviceIoControl(H, IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY, @Query, SizeOf(Query), @Buffer, SizeOf(Buffer), dwBytesReturned, nil) then if sdd.BusType = BusTypeUsb then begin SetLength(USBDrives, Length(USBDrives) + 1); UsbDrives[High(USBDrives)] := Byte(i); end; finally CloseHandle(H); end; end; end; for i := 0 to High(USBDrives) do begin // end; end. But I don't know how to access partitions on each drive and mounts them. Can you please help me? I searched before I asked and I couldn't find a working code. But if I did not properly then I'm sorry and please show me that topic. Best regards, John

  • Faulting DLL (ISAPI Filter)...

    - by Brad
    I wrote this ISAPI filter to rewrite the URL because we had some sites that moved locations... Basically the filter looks at the referrer, and if it's the local server, it looks at the requested URL and compared it to the full referrer. If the first path is identical, nothing is done, however if not, it takes the first path from the full referrer and prepends it to the URL. For example: /Content/imgs/img.jpg from a referrer of http://myserver/wr/apps/default.htm would be rewritten as /wr/Content/imgs/img.jpg. When I view the log file, everything looks good. However the DLL keeps faulting with the following information: Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module URLRedirector.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0002df25. Here's the code: #include <windows.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <httpfilt.h> #include <time.h> #include <string.h> #ifdef _DEBUG #define TO_FILE // uncomment out to use a log file #ifdef TO_FILE #define DEST ghFile #define DebugMsg(x) WriteToFile x; HANDLE ghFile; #define LOGFILE "W:\\Temp\\URLRedirector.log" void WriteToFile (HANDLE hFile, char *szFormat, ...) { char szBuf[1024]; DWORD dwWritten; va_list list; va_start (list, szFormat); vsprintf (szBuf, szFormat, list); hFile = CreateFile (LOGFILE, GENERIC_WRITE, 0, NULL, OPEN_ALWAYS, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL); if (hFile != INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE) { SetFilePointer (hFile, 0, NULL, FILE_END); WriteFile (hFile, szBuf, lstrlen (szBuf), &dwWritten, NULL); CloseHandle (hFile); } va_end (list); } #endif #endif BOOL WINAPI __stdcall GetFilterVersion(HTTP_FILTER_VERSION *pVer) { /* Specify the types and order of notification */ pVer->dwFlags = (SF_NOTIFY_ORDER_HIGH | SF_NOTIFY_SECURE_PORT | SF_NOTIFY_NONSECURE_PORT | SF_NOTIFY_PREPROC_HEADERS | SF_NOTIFY_END_OF_NET_SESSION); pVer->dwFilterVersion = HTTP_FILTER_REVISION; strcpy(pVer->lpszFilterDesc, "URL Redirector, Version 1.0"); return TRUE; } DWORD WINAPI __stdcall HttpFilterProc(HTTP_FILTER_CONTEXT *pfc, DWORD NotificationType, VOID *pvData) { CHAR *pPhysPath; PHTTP_FILTER_URL_MAP pURLMap; PHTTP_FILTER_PREPROC_HEADERS pHeaderInfo; CHAR szReferrer[255], szServer[255], szURL[255], szNewURL[255]; DWORD dwRSize = sizeof(szReferrer); DWORD dwSSize = sizeof(szServer); DWORD dwUSize = sizeof(szURL); int iTmp, iTmp2; CHAR *pos, tmp[255], *tmp2; switch (NotificationType) { case SF_NOTIFY_PREPROC_HEADERS : pHeaderInfo = (PHTTP_FILTER_PREPROC_HEADERS)pvData; if (pfc->GetServerVariable(pfc, "HTTP_REFERER", szReferrer, &dwRSize)) { DebugMsg(( DEST, "Referrer: %s\r\n", szReferrer )); if (pfc->GetServerVariable(pfc, "SERVER_NAME", szServer, &dwSSize)) DebugMsg(( DEST, "Server Name: %s\r\n", szServer )); if (pHeaderInfo->GetHeader(pfc, "URL", szURL, &dwUSize)) DebugMsg(( DEST, "URL: %s\r\n", szURL )); iTmp = strnstr(szReferrer, szServer, strlen(szReferrer)); if(iTmp > 0) { //Referred is our own server... strcpy(tmp, szReferrer + iTmp); DebugMsg(( DEST, "tmp: %s - %d\r\n", tmp, strlen(tmp) )); pos = strchr(tmp+1, '/'); DebugMsg(( DEST, "pos: %s - %d\r\n", pos, strlen(pos) )); iTmp2 = strlen(tmp) - strlen(pos) + 1; strncpy(tmp2, tmp, iTmp2); tmp2[iTmp2] = '\0'; DebugMsg(( DEST, "tmp2: %s\r\n", tmp2)); if(strncmp(szURL, tmp2, iTmp2) != 0) { //First paths don't match, create new URL... strncpy(szNewURL, tmp2, iTmp2-1); strcat(szNewURL, szURL); DebugMsg(( DEST, "newURL: %s\r\n", szNewURL)); pHeaderInfo->SetHeader(pfc, "URL", szNewURL); return SF_STATUS_REQ_HANDLED_NOTIFICATION; } } } break; default : break; } return SF_STATUS_REQ_NEXT_NOTIFICATION; } /* simple function to compare two strings and return the position at which the compare ended */ static int strnstr ( const char *string, const char *strCharSet, int n) { int len = (strCharSet != NULL ) ? I have problem when I want to send with my program message from one computer to another, i can't send Polish chars (they are repleaced by '?'), how can I fix it ? Does anyone have idea ?? And I have one more problem, I can't send message from my program to Microsoft HyperTerminal, HyperTerminal receive something, but not that what I send. Thx for any help :) Important pieces of code: Connect with port: portHandle = CreateFile (portName, GENERIC_WRITE | GENERIC_READ, 0, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); GetCommState (portHandle, &dcb); switch(ui->comboBox->currentIndex()) { case 0 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_110; break; case 1 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_300; break; case 2 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_600; break; case 3 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_1200; break; case 4 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_2400; break; case 5 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_4800; break; case 6 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_9600; break; case 7 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_14400; break; case 8 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_19200; break; case 9 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_38400; break; case 10 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_56000; break; case 11 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_57600; break; case 12 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_115200; break; case 13 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_128000; break; case 14 : dcb.BaudRate=CBR_256000; break; } dcb.fBinary = TRUE; dcb.fParity = TRUE; dcb.fOutxCtsFlow = FALSE; dcb.fOutxDsrFlow = FALSE; dcb.fDtrControl = DTR_CONTROL_ENABLE; dcb.fDsrSensitivity = FALSE; dcb.fTXContinueOnXoff = TRUE; dcb.fOutX = FALSE; dcb.fInX = FALSE; dcb.fErrorChar = FALSE; dcb.fNull = FALSE; dcb.fRtsControl = RTS_CONTROL_ENABLE; dcb.fAbortOnError = FALSE; //dcb.ByteSize = dataBits; dcb.DCBlength = sizeof (DCB); switch(ui->comboBox_3->currentIndex()) { case 1 : dcb.Parity = EVENPARITY; break; case 3 : dcb.Parity = MARKPARITY; break; case 2 : dcb.Parity = ODDPARITY; break; case 4 : dcb.Parity = SPACEPARITY; break; case 0 : dcb.Parity = NOPARITY; break; } switch (ui->comboBox_4->currentIndex()) { case 0 : dcb.StopBits = ONESTOPBIT; break; case 1 : dcb.StopBits = ONE5STOPBITS;break; case 2 : dcb.StopBits = TWOSTOPBITS; break; } switch (ui->comboBox_2->currentIndex()) { case 0 : dcb.ByteSize = 5; break; case 1 : dcb.ByteSize = 6;break; case 2 : dcb.ByteSize= 7; break; case 3 : dcb.ByteSize = 8; break; } SetCommState (portHandle, &dcb); GetCommTimeouts (portHandle, &CommTimeouts); CommTimeouts.ReadIntervalTimeout = MAXDWORD; CommTimeouts.ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 0; CommTimeouts.ReadTotalTimeoutConstant = 0; CommTimeouts.WriteTotalTimeoutMultiplier = 10; CommTimeouts.WriteTotalTimeoutConstant = 1000; SetCommTimeouts (portHandle, &CommTimeouts); Send MSG: void MainWindow::Send(char c) { do {WriteFile(portHandle, &c, 1, &cbWritten, NULL); } while (!(cbWritten)); } void MainWindow::on_pushButton_clicked() { QString str = ui->lineEdit->text(); std::string str2; ui->lineEdit->clear(); str2 = str.toStdString(); for(int i=0; i < str2.size();i++) { Send(str2[i]); //qDebug()<< str2[i]; } Send(char(13)); } Receive MSG: void ReaderThread::run() { char c; while(1) { c = Receive(); if(c==13) { emit insertPlainText("\n"); } else { emit insertPlainText(QString(c)); } } } char ReaderThread::Receive() { char c; do{ ReadFile(portHandle, &c, 1, &cbRead, NULL); } while (!(cbRead)); return c; }

  • Database file is inexplicably locked during SQLite commit

    - by sweeney
    Hello, I'm performing a large number of INSERTS to a SQLite database. I'm using just one thread. I batch the writes to improve performance and have a bit of security in case of a crash. Basically I cache up a bunch of data in memory and then when I deem appropriate, I loop over all of that data and perform the INSERTS. The code for this is shown below: public void Commit() { using (SQLiteConnection conn = new SQLiteConnection(this.connString)) { conn.Open(); using (SQLiteTransaction trans = conn.BeginTransaction()) { using (SQLiteCommand command = conn.CreateCommand()) { command.CommandText = "INSERT OR IGNORE INTO [MY_TABLE] (col1, col2) VALUES (?,?)"; command.Parameters.Add(this.col1Param); command.Parameters.Add(this.col2Param); foreach (Data o in this.dataTemp) { this.col1Param.Value = o.Col1Prop; this. col2Param.Value = o.Col2Prop; command.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } this.TryHandleCommit(trans); } conn.Close(); } } I now employ the following gimmick to get the thing to eventually work: private void TryHandleCommit(SQLiteTransaction trans) { try { trans.Commit(); } catch (Exception e) { Console.WriteLine("Trying again..."); this.TryHandleCommit(trans); } } I create my DB like so: public DataBase(String path) { //build connection string SQLiteConnectionStringBuilder connString = new SQLiteConnectionStringBuilder(); connString.DataSource = path; connString.Version = 3; connString.DefaultTimeout = 5; connString.JournalMode = SQLiteJournalModeEnum.Persist; connString.UseUTF16Encoding = true; using (connection = new SQLiteConnection(connString.ToString())) { //check for existence of db FileInfo f = new FileInfo(path); if (!f.Exists) //build new blank db { SQLiteConnection.CreateFile(path); connection.Open(); using (SQLiteTransaction trans = connection.BeginTransaction()) { using (SQLiteCommand command = connection.CreateCommand()) { command.CommandText = DataBase.CREATE_MATCHES; command.ExecuteNonQuery(); command.CommandText = DataBase.CREATE_STRING_DATA; command.ExecuteNonQuery(); //TODO add logging } trans.Commit(); } connection.Close(); } } } I then export the connection string and use it to obtain new connections in different parts of the program. At seemingly random intervals, though at far too great a rate to ignore or otherwise workaround this problem, I get unhandled SQLiteException: Database file is locked. This occurs when I attempt to commit the transaction. No errors seem to occur prior to then. This does not always happen. Sometimes the whole thing runs without a hitch. No reads are being performed on these files before the commits finish. I have the very latest SQLite binary. I'm compiling for .NET 2.0. I'm using VS 2008. The db is a local file. All of this activity is encapsulated within one thread / process. Virus protection is off (though I think that was only relevant if you were connecting over a network?). As per Scotsman's post I have implemented the following changes: Journal Mode set to Persist DB files stored in C:\Docs + Settings\ApplicationData via System.Windows.Forms.Application.AppData windows call No inner exception Witnessed on two distinct machines (albeit very similar hardware and software) Have been running Process Monitor - no extraneous processes are attaching themselves to the DB files - the problem is definitely in my code... Does anyone have any idea whats going on here? I know I just dropped a whole mess of code, but I've been trying to figure this out for way too long. My thanks to anyone who makes it to the end of this question! brian UPDATES: Thanks for the suggestions so far! I've implemented many of the suggested changes. I feel that we are getting closer to the answer...however... The code above technically works however it is non-deterministic! It is not guaranteed to do anything aside from spin in neutral forever. In practice it seems to work somewhere between the 1st and 10th iteration. If i batch my commits at a reasonable interval damage will be mitigated but I really do not want to leave things in this state... More suggestions welcome!
