  • Identifying individual values in a text box using Flash

    - by Jamash1989
I want to identify specific strings in a text box from user input to add to a score variable, like so - if (userWords.text == firstWord) { score = score + 1; } The example given adds 1 to the score, but if a user adds a space then a second word the text box views it as a whole and not individual words, resulting in no values added to the score variable. The problem lies with the whole text box being viewed as one entire string. Instead, I want to split it up so word1 will add 1 to the score, word2 will add 1 to the score, etc. I am ultra confused with this problem, so thank you to anyone that may help.

  • SQL SERVER – Difference between COUNT(DISTINCT) vs COUNT(ALL)

    - by pinaldave
This blog post is written in response to the T-SQL Tuesday hosted by Jes Schultz Borland. Earlier today, I was presenting a 45-minute session at the Community College about “The Beginning SQL Server Database”. One of the students asked me the following question. What is the difference between COUNT(DISTINCT) vs COUNT(ALL)? I found this question from the student very interesting. He seems to have read the documentation (Book Online) and was then asking me this question. I always carry laptop which has SQL Server installed. I quickly opened it and ran the following script. After looking at the result, I think it was clear to everybody. Here is the script: SELECT COUNT([Title]) Value FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO SELECT COUNT(ALL [Title]) ALLValue FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT [Title]) DistinctValue FROM [AdventureWorks].[Person].[Contact] GO The above script will give me the following results. You can clearly notice from the result set that COUNT (ALL ColumnName) is the same as COUNT(ColumnName). The reality is that the “ALL” is actually  the default option and it needs not to be specified. The ALL keyword includes all the non-NULL values. I know this is very simple and may be it does not change how we work; however looking at the whole angle, I really enjoyed the question. • jQuery: form input values turns up undefined

    - by Seerumi
Having problem with this bit of code qith jQuery. it should pick the values from current form and then submit them, but when I try to get them with jQuery they always turn up undefined. I know the SQL results are fine since they show correctly in HTML table, so it must be my inferior javascript skills. New with jQuery and I'm at loss :( PHP/HTML: echo "<table>\n" while ($row = odbc_fetch_array($query)) { echo "<form class='catForm'>\n"; echo "<input type=hidden class='catID' name='catID' value='".$row['running_id']."'/>\n"; echo "<tr>\n"; echo "<td>".$row['running_id']."</td>\n"; echo "<td>".$row['site_id']."</td>\n"; echo "<td>".$row['main_category']."</td>\n"; echo "<td>".$row['map_name']."</td>\n"; echo "<td><input type=textfield class='bCatID' value='".$row['mapping_id']."' size=6/></td>\n"; echo "<td><input type=submit class='saveCat' value='Save'/></td>\n"; echo "<td><input type=submit class='killCat' value='Delete' /></td>\n"; echo "</tr>\n"; echo "</form>\n"; } echo "</table>"; jQuery: $(".catForm").submit(function () { var id = $(this).find('.catID').val(); var bCatID = $(this).find('.bCatID').val(); var dataString = 'id='+id+'&bCatID='+bCatID; $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: 'adminUI/bin/updateSCategories.php', dataType : 'json', data: dataString, success: function(data) { if (data.error == true) $('.failure').html("Error, save failed.").show().fadeOut(2000); if (data.error == false) $('.success').html("Saved succesfully").show().fadeOut(2000); }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { $('.failure').html("Error, save failed.").show().fadeOut(2000); } }); return false; }); RESULT: id: undefined bCatID: undefined

  • How to SELECT DISTINCT Info with TOP 1 Info and an Order By FROM the Top 1 Info

    - by Erin Taylor
I have 2 tables, that look like: CustomerInfo(CustomterID, CustomerName) CustomerReviews(ReviewID, CustomerID, Review, Score) I want to search reviews for a string and return CustomerInfo.CustomerID and CustomerInfo.CustomerName. However, I only want to show distinct CustomerID and CustomerName along with just one of their CustomerReviews.Reviews and CustomerReviews.Score. I also want to order by the CustomerReviews.Score. I can't figure out how to do this, since a customer can leave multiple reviews, but I only want a list of customers with their highest scored review. Any ideas?

  • how to get unique values set from a repeating values list

    - by Mariselvam
I need to parse a large log file (flat file), which contains two column of values (column-A , column-B). Values in both columns are repeating. I need to find for each unique value in column-A , I need to find a set of column-B values. Is this can be done using unix shell command or need to write any perl or python script? What are the ways this can be done? Example: xxxA 2 xxxA 1 xxxB 2 XXXC 3 XXXA 3 xxxD 4 output: xxxA - 2,1,3 xxxB - 2 xxxC - 3 xxxD - 4

  • Difference between DISTINCT and VALUES in DAX

    - by Marco Russo (SQLBI)
I recently got a question about differences between DISTINCT and VALUES in DAX and thanks to Jeffrey Wang I created a simple example to describe the difference. Consider the two tables below: Fact and Dim tables, having a single column with the same name of the table. A relationship exists between Fact[Fact] and Dim[Dim]. This relationship generates a referential integrity violations in table Fact for rows containing C, which doesn’t exist in table Dim. In this case, an empty row is virtually inserted...(read more)

  • Fastest way to check if two square 2D arrays are rotationally and reflectively distinct

    - by kustrle
The best idea I have so far is to rotate first array by {0, 90, 180, 270} degrees and reflect it horizontally or/and vertically. We basically get 16 variations [1] of first array and compare them with second array. if none of them matches the two arrays are rotationally and reflectively distinct. I am wondering if there is more optimal solution than this brute-force approach? [1] 0deg, no reflection 0deg, reflect over x 0deg, reflect over y 0deg, reflect over x and y 90deg, no reflection ...

Anybody knows how to set te correct aliases to do this? Thanks in advance.

  • Linq query with subquery as comma-separated values

    - by Keith
In my application, a company can have many employees and each employee may have have multiple email addresses. The database schema relates the tables like this: Company - CompanyEmployeeXref - Employee - EmployeeAddressXref - Email I am using Entity Framework and I want to create a LINQ query that returns the name of the company and a comma-separated list of it's employee's email addresses. Here is the query I am attempting: from c in Company join ex in CompanyEmployeeXref on c.Id equals ex.CompanyId join e in Employee on ex.EmployeeId equals e.Id join ax in EmployeeAddressXref on e.Id equals ax.EmployeeId join a in Address on ax.AddressId equals a.Id select new { c.Name, a.Email.Aggregate(x=x + ",") } Desired Output: "Company1", "[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]" "Company2", "[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]" ... I know this code is wrong, I think I'm missing a group by, but it illustrates the point. I'm not sure of the syntax. Is this even possible? Thanks for any help.

  • How have your coding values changed since graduating?

    - by Matt
We all walked out of school with the stars in our eyes and little experience in "real-world" programming. How have your opinions on programming as a craft changed since you've gained more experience away from academia? I've become more and more about design a la McConnell : wide use of encapsulation, quality code that gives you warm fuzzy feelings when you read it, maintainability over execution performance, etc..., whereas many of my co-workers have followed a different path of fewer middlemen layers getting in the way, code that is right out in the open and easier to locate, even if harder to read, and performance-centric designs. What have you learned about the craft of software design which has changed the way you approach coding since leaving the academic world?

  • Counting unique values in a column with a shell script

    - by Lilly Tooner
Hello. I have a tab delimited file with 5 columns and need to retrieve a count of just the number of unique lines from column 2. I would normally do this with Perl/Python but I am forced to use the shell for this one. I have successfully in the past used *nix uniq function piped to wc but it looks like I am going to have to use awk in here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. (I have asked a similar question previously about column checks using awk but this is a little different and I wanted to separate it so if someone in the future has this question this will be here) Many many thanks! • accessing values in a Map container, whose values were passed on as a stream

    - by wilson88
    I am trying to get access to the object values of the objects that were sent as a stream from one class to ano ther.Aparently I can view the objects via their keys but am not so sure how to get to the values.ie Bid- values trdId,qty, price. If possible you can demostrate how I can make comparison for the prices in the containers buyers and sellers for the prices. code is as below: void Auctioneer::printTable(map bidtable) { map<int, Bid*>::const_iterator iter; cout << "\t\tBidID | TradID | Type | Qty | Price \n\n"; for(iter=bidtable.begin(); iter != bidtable.end(); iter++)//{ cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n"; //------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Creating another map for the sellers. cout<<"These are the Sellers bids\n\n"; map<int, Bid*> sellers(bidtable); sellers.erase(10);sellers.erase(11);sellers.erase(12);sellers.erase(13);sellers.erase(14); sellers.erase(15);sellers.erase(16); sellers.erase(17);sellers.erase(18);sellers.erase(19); for(iter=sellers.begin(); iter != sellers.end(); iter++) cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n"; //-------------------------------------------------------------------------- // Creating another map for the sellers. cout<<"These are the Buyers bids\n\n"; map<int, Bid*> buyers(bidtable); buyers.erase(0);buyers.erase(1);buyers.erase(2);buyers.erase(3);buyers.erase(4);buyers.erase(5); buyers.erase(6);buyers.erase(7); buyers.erase(8);buyers.erase(9); for(iter=buyers.begin(); iter != buyers.end(); iter++) //sellers.erase(10); cout << iter->second->toString() << endl<<"\n";

  • GSL interpolation error, values must be x values must be monotonically increasing

    - by pyCthon
Hi my problem is that my data set is monotonically increasing but towards the end the of the data it looks like it does below ,where some of the x[i-1] = x[i] as shown below. This causes an error to be raised in GSL because it thinks that the values are not monotonically increasing. Is there a solution, fix or work around for this problem? the values are already double precision ,this particular data set starts at 9.86553e-06 and ends at .999999 would the only solution be to offset every value in a for loop? 0.999981 0.999981 0.999981 0.999982 0.999982 0.999983 0.999983 0.999983 0.999984 0.999984 0.999985 0.999985 0.999985

  • SQL SERVER – Storing Variable Values in Temporary Array or Temporary List

    - by pinaldave
SQL Server does not support arrays or a dynamic length storage mechanism like list. Absolutely there are some clever workarounds and few extra-ordinary solutions but everybody can;t come up with such solution. Additionally, sometime the requirements are very simple that doing extraordinary coding is not required. Here is the simple case. Let us say here are the values: a, 10, 20, c, 30, d. Now the requirement is to store them in a array or list. It is very easy to do the same in C# or C. However, there is no quick way to do the same in SQL Server. Every single time when I get such requirement, I create a table variable and store the values in the table variables. Here is the example: For SQL Server 2012: DECLARE @ListofIDs TABLE(IDs VARCHAR(100)); INSERT INTO @ListofIDs VALUES('a'),('10'),('20'),('c'),('30'),('d'); SELECT IDs FROM @ListofIDs; GO When executed above script it will give following resultset. Above script will work in SQL Server 2012 only for SQL Server 2008 and earlier version run following code. DECLARE @ListofIDs TABLE(IDs VARCHAR(100), ID INT IDENTITY(1,1)); INSERT INTO @ListofIDs SELECT 'a' UNION ALL SELECT '10' UNION ALL SELECT '20' UNION ALL SELECT 'c' UNION ALL SELECT '30' UNION ALL SELECT 'd'; SELECT IDs FROM @ListofIDs; GO Now in this case, I have to convert numbers to varchars because I have to store mix datatypes in a single column. Additionally, this quick solution does not give any features of arrays (like inserting values in between as well accessing values using array index). Well, do you ever have to store temporary multiple values in SQL Server – if the count of values are dynamic and datatype is not specified early how will you about storing values which can be used later in the programming. • Select distinct ... inner join vs. select ... where id in (...)

    - by Tonio
I'm trying to create a subset of a table (as a materialized view), defined as those records which have a matching record in another materialized view. For example, let's say I have a Users table with user_id and name columns, and a Log table, with entry_id, user_id, activity, and timestamp columns. First I create a materialized view of the Log table, selecting only those rows with timestamp some_date. Now I want a materliazed view of the Users referenced in my snapshot of the Log table. I can either create it as select * from Users where user_id in (select user_id from Log_mview), or I can do select distinct u.* from Users u inner join Log_mview l on u.user_id = l.user_id (need the distinct to avoid multiple hits from users with multiple log entries). The former seems cleaner and more elegant, but takes much longer. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this?

  • Get backreferences values and modificate these values

    - by roasted
    Could you please explain why im not able to get values of backreferences from a matched regex result and apply it some modification before effective replacement? The expected result is replacing for example string ".coord('X','Y')" by "X * Y". But if X to some value, divide this value by 2 and then use this new value in replacement. Here the code im currently testing: See /*>>1<<*/ & /*>>2<<*/ & /*>>3<<*/, this is where im stuck! I would like to be able to apply modification on backrefrences before replacement depending of backreferences values. Difference between /*>>2<<*/ & /*>>3<<*/ is just the self call anonymous function param The method /*>>2<<*/ is the expected working solution as i can understand it. But strangely, the replacement is not working correctly, replacing by alias $1 * $2 and not by value...? You can test the jsfiddle //string to test ".coord('125','255')" //array of regex pattern and replacement //just one for the example //for this example, pattern matching alphanumerics is not necessary (only decimal in coord) but keep it as it var regexes = [ //FORMAT is array of [PATTERN,REPLACEMENT] /*.coord("X","Y")*/ [/\.coord\(['"]([\w]+)['"],['"]?([\w:\.\\]+)['"]?\)/g, '$1 * $2'] ]; function testReg(inputText, $output) { //using regex for (var i = 0; i < regexes.length; i++) { /*==>**1**/ //this one works as usual but dont let me get backreferences values $output.val(inputText.replace(regexes[i][0], regexes[i][2])); /*==>**2**/ //this one should works as i understand it $output.val(inputText.replace(regexes[i][0], function(match, $1, $2, $3, $4) { $1 = checkReplace(match, $1, $2, $3, $4); //here want using $1 modified value in replacement return regexes[i][3]; })); /*==>**3**/ //this one is just a test by self call anonymous function $output.val(inputText.replace(regexes[i][0], function(match, $1, $2, $3, $4) { $1 = checkReplace(match, $1, $2, $3, $4); //here want using $1 modified value in replacement return regexes[i][4]; }())); inputText = $output.val(); } } function checkReplace(match, $1, $2, $3, $4) { console.log(match + ':::' + $1 + ':::' + $2 + ':::' + $3 + ':::' + $4); //HERE i should be able if lets say $1 > 200 divide it by 2 //then returning $1 value if($1 > 200) $1 = parseInt($1 / 2); return $1; }? Sure I'm missing something, but cannot get it! Thanks for your help, regards. EDIT WORKING METHOD: Finally get it, as mentionned by Eric: The key thing is that the function returns the literal text to substitute, not a string which is parsed for backreferences.?? JSFIDDLE So complete working code: (please note as pattern replacement will change for each matched pattern and optimisation of speed code is not an issue here, i will keep it like that) $('#btn').click(function() { testReg($('#input').val(), $('#output')); }); //array of regex pattern and replacement //just one for the example var regexes = [ //FORMAT is array of [PATTERN,REPLACEMENT] /*.coord("X","Y")*/ [/\.coord\(['"]([\w]+)['"],['"]?([\w:\.\\]+)['"]?\)/g, '$1 * $2'] ]; function testReg(inputText, $output) { //using regex for (var i = 0; i < regexes.length; i++) { $output.val(inputText.replace(regexes[i][0], function(match, $1, $2, $3, $4) { var checkedValues = checkReplace(match, $1, $2, $3, $4); $1 = checkedValues[0]; $2 = checkedValues[1]; regexes[i][1] = regexes[i][1].replace('$1', $1).replace('$2', $2); return regexes[i][1]; })); inputText = $output.val(); } } function checkReplace(match, $1, $2, $3, $4) { console.log(match + ':::' + $1 + ':::' + $2 + ':::' + $3 + ':::' + $4); if ($1 > 200) $1 = parseInt($1 / 2); if ($2 > 200) $2 = parseInt($2 / 2); return [$1,$2]; }
