  • Ubuntu and Surface Pro, wifi issues not fixed?

    Just a quick question, from the numerous other threads I found, is the wifi still a no go straight out of installing Ubuntu? I tried this Dual boot Surface Pro with Ubuntu? with 13.04, the wifi is sporadic in working. From that and other threads I gathered that 13.10 would include the fix, so I tossed that onto the Surface as well, with the same results. Is there anything I am missing? Is there any other distro that has better luck with the Marvell chip?

    If you’ve downloaded Excel 2013 and been working with it you may have noticed the new cell transition feature. Not sure why they put it in, it feels a bit like the aero interface which I understand has been dropped in windows 8.     I've got two div containers. Whilst one needs to be a specific width, I need to adjust it, so that, the other div takes up the rest of the space.   • One of my VMs went boom using Virtual Box and how it got fixed

    I am running an HP Envy 15, 16GB and 500GB (7200 RPM) Hard drive. Had a VM configured from another environment, created the virtual machine config file on Virtual Box, everything seemed ok. Fired it up, and it was  s   l   o   w, it took close to 10 minutes for it to load, and about 5 more to see Windows was in the process of loading before the BSOD.  Thought, maybe, just maybe it will not happen again … oh was I wrong. Frustration had already hit an all time high with this configuration and the number of issues I’ve had. How I did the troubleshooting … The best thing to do (IMO) is to step back, and gather your tools to debug this situation. Tools:  Virtual Box command line tools, Windows Debug. Virtual Box comes with a pretty good set of tools to examine, migrate and overall tasks to deal with VMs. The firs step:  use VBoxManage to prevent the VM from rebooting after the error to get enough time to really dig into the BSOD issue. Command used:   VBoxManage setextradata VMNAME "VBoxInternal/PDM/HaltOnReset" 1 Once this was done, the error reported was an “Inaccessible boot device” coming from a “Stop – 7B” type of error on the BSOD. The issue I had with this, my VM was configured to use a virtual SATA controller, and thought Windows 2008 R2 would handle this fine … again wrong!  Because the integration tools from the other product where wanting to take effect that was throwing everything off. The fix The fix was almost handed to me, edited the configuration for the VM, removed the SATA controller from it, added the virtual hard drive under an IDE controller, boot up and voilà … it works! I was then able to install the Virtual Box guest tools and such, but have decided to favor “keep on working” over “let’s try SATA again”

  • when the page scroll to certain point, how to make a second fixed header appear

    I have a page that will be responsive and I also want to add a header that appears once the visitor scrolls for a bit. The header will supplant the main header in order to be visible as the user travels down the page. I think this was a convention that people have used, and I need some help, as i can't really code it from scratch. Has anyone seen examples or tutorials on this. I've looked but can't come up with it.

Who offers reliable unlimited online backup space for a fixed price that's compatible with rsync, FTP, or other generic/open source file transfer protocols? Or, has anyone written software that lets me treat Mozy's/etc space as though it were regular file space (eg, "mozyfs"?)

  • Fixed width, free, sans serif fonts

    I'm a dyslexic and i generally use arial for most things, since its probably the most readable font for me. However i'd like to have a fixed width font with similar charecteristics (sans serif, distinct, 'simple' characters etc) since some things break with non fixed width fonts, but at the same time, most of the 'standard' fonts are harder to read for me- any suggestions?

  • What is the point in using real time?

    I understand that using real time frame elapses (which should vary between 16-17ms on average) are provided by a lot of frameworks. GetTimeElapsedSinceLastFrame, and it gives you the wall clock time. But should we use this information in basic physics simulation? It looks to me to be a bad idea. Say there is a slight lag on the machine, for whatever reason (say a virus scanner starts up). The calculations all jump, and there is no need for this. Why not use a virtual second and ignore wall clock time? For gameplay on the level of Commander Keen, shouldn't you always use the virtual second and not real-time? (Besides stopwatch timing for race games) I don't see a need to use real time and not a fixed 16ms time step.

    I know that Excel has functionality to import fixed-width text files where it presents a dialog that lets you choose where the begins and ends of fields are which it puts into columns. Does it also have functionality where, given an existing spreadsheet, you can export to a fixed-width text file? If so, how do I access this? I have tried using Save As and choosing Text File but it seems to only save as Tab-delimited which doesn't help me. This is Excel 2003 if it matters. Thanks, ~ Justin

    Scenario Two drives are connected to a computer. One via a SATA-to-USB interface, the other directly via a SATA-to-eSATA cable. The drive on USB appears as a removable drive, the drive on eSATA appears as a fixed drive. Both use NTFS. The USB drive offers Bitlocker-To-Go, the eSATA drive only offers BitLocker. Question It is my understanding that drives encrypted with BitLocker-To-Go include an app to allow Windows XP read-only access to the volume. Is this the only difference, and is there a way to use Bitlocker-To-Go on the eSATA drive? Update Another difference is found here: The recovery key is required when a BitLocker-protected fixed data drive configured for automatic unlocking is moved to another computer.[1] Assuming that does not apply to removable drives.

  • Post Error, Fixed/Removable Media Error

    Hi, I really do not know what I am missing here. I ordered parts for a new server. The board is an Intel s3420GP. From the diagnostic LEDs I get the error message: 0xB1h which corresponds to "Fixed Media: Disabling fixed media" and 0xB8h which corresponds to "Removable Media: Resetting removable media device." I can not for the life of me figure out what it is talking about. I have two identical motherboards and both gave the error message. I don't have a second CPU yet, so I can't test that. There are no beeps or anything. It seems the server resets every 10 seconds or so (the speaker does work, I put the RAM in the wrong slots on purpose to test this out, and the correct error POST code came up) Please help me, I'm not sure where else to turn or to ask

    I've been struggling some time now with a specific problem using Tables in MS Word (2010). I have a table with 2 rows and 2 columns and the last column, the rows are merged. Now it can happen that this last cell will expand, and I would like to have the last row in the first column to be of a fixed height and the first row has to expand. What happens now is that the last row expands and the first row has a "fixed" height. A picture of the behaviour at this moment: And this is how I would like it to behave: I have been looking through all properties and settings, but I don't seem to find any option. Neither can I found anything by searching online (probably not using the exact right keywords). Any help is appreciated.

    I am using bootstrap on my site and am having issues with the navbar fixed top. When I am just using the regular navbar, everything is fine. However, when i try to switch it to navbar fixed top, all the other content on the site shifts up like the navbar isn't there and the navbar overlaps it. here's basically how i laid it out: .navbar.navbar-fixed-top .navbar-inner .container .container .row //yield content i tried to copy bootstraps examples exactly but still having this issue only when using navbar fixed top. what am I doing wrong?

    I have an XNA 3.0 project that compiled just fine in VS2008, but that gives compile errors in VS2010 (with XNA 4.0 CTP). The error: Cannot use fixed local 'depthPtr' inside an anonymous method, lambda expression, or query expression depthPtr is a fixed float* into an array, that is used inside a Parallel.For lambda expression from System.Threading. As I said, this compiled and ran just fine on VS2008, but it does not on VS2010, even when targeting .NET 3.5. Has this changed in .NET 4.0, and even so, shouldn't it still compile when I choose .NET 3.5 as the target framework? Searching for the term "Cannot use fixed local" yields exactly one (useless) result, both in Google and Bing. If this has changed, what is the reason for this? I can imagine capturing a fixed pointer-type in a closure could get a bit weird, is that why? So I'm guessing this is bad practice? And before anyone asks: no, the use of pointers is not absolutely critical here. I would still like to know though :)

However, incoming messages are still being tagged by this eg: X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.188 tagged_above=-999 required=6.31 tests=[BAYES_50=0.001, FH_DATE_PAST_20XX=3.188, SPF_PASS=-0.001] Here is the relevant rule: ##{ FH_DATE_PAST_20XX header FH_DATE_PAST_20XX Date =~ /20[2-9][0-9]/ [if-unset: 2006] describe FH_DATE_PAST_20XX The date is grossly in the future. ##} FH_DATE_PAST_20XX I'm on spamassassin/3.2.5-2+lenny1.1~volatile1 on Debian Lenny, completely up to date. Any pointers on where to look to figure out what's going on? I don't know anything about SpamAssassin; someone else usually manages this but I'm free right now and am trying to figure out what the problem is because it's been annoying us for a while and we only just realized this bug was still affecting us. Update: I've lowered the score for the FH_DATE_PAST20XX rule to 0.1, both in /etc/spamassassin/local.cf and /usr/share/spamassassin/50_scores.cf and it's still giving 3.188 points for this rule.     I would like to have a small dynamic adress part and the most clients are assigned a fixed IP adress. My dhcpd.conf looks like this: use-host-decl-names on; authoritative; allow client-updates; ddns-updates on; # Einstellungen fuer DHCP leases default-lease-time 3600; max-lease-time 86400; lease-file-name "/var/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd.leases"; subnet 192.168.11.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { ddns-updates on; pool { # IP range which will be assigned statically range 192.168.11.1 192.168.11.240; deny all clients; } pool { # small dynamic range range 192.168.11.241 192.168.11.254; # used for temporary devices } } group { host pc1 { hardware ethernet xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx; fixed-address 192.168.11.11; } } The motivation for the pool declaration with deny all hosts comes from the ISC DHCPD homepage http://www.isc.org/files/auth.html This will allow hosts to be first added to the network, where they will receive a temporary IP from the 241-254 adress range and then later write an explicit host declaration. Upon next connect it will receive the right configuration. The problem is that I am getting error messages that 192.168.11.13 has a dynamic and a static lease. I am a bit confused as I expected the pool declaration with deny all clients would not count as dynamic. Dynamic and static leases present for 192.168.11.13. Remove host declaration pc1 or remove 192.168.11.13 from the dynamic address pool for 192.168.11.0/24 Is there a way to have the DHCP server send an DHCPNA to clients if they have a host statement and retain this dynamic range?
