  I have a REST web method in .NET 3.5: [OperationContract] [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "", Method = Verbs.Get)] public string GetBar() { return "foo"; } The response gets formatted as <string>foo</string> while I would prefer <bar>foo</bar> instead. Does anyone know how to do that? I feel I am missing something obvious.

  Hello, I'm brand new to Objective C programing for the Iphone. I was wondering if it is possible to use a tab bar, and in one of the tabs have a navigation bar so that I could drill down? I tried to look for tutorials and found this one http://www.devx.com/wireless/Article/45161/1954, I got it to work as written but I couldn't figure out to display the data I wanted. Does anyone know how? or does anyone know a tutorial for complete beginners?

  I have VS 2010 and Word 2010. In Word 2010 there is sometimes a message/warning bar that pops up under the ribbon but above the body of the document that allows the user to do an action. • Disable Charm bar's Touchpad gesture shortcut

  I'm using an Acer AO722 laptop. Everytime I slide my finger from the right edge of the touchpad (where the slider is) toward the center (mostly accidentally), the charmbar pops up and stays on the screen until I manually click on some random spots on the screen. There's no such option in the Synaptics properties: .. nor is there any in the mouse option. Is there a way to turn this shortcut off?

However, I don't want to use a program to do that for me, and given that I'm confident with mucking around with the registry, I'd like to know where the reg entries for the Titlebar Button positions are. • Move Firefox’s Tab Bar to the Top

  Would you prefer to have Firefox’s Tab Bar located at the top of the browser instead of its’ default location? See how easy it is to move the Tab Bar back and forth between the top and current positions “flip switch style” with the Tabs On Top extension. Note: Tabs On Top extension supports multi-row feature in TabMixPlus. Before You can see the “Tab Bar” in its’ default location here in our test browser…not bad but what if you prefer having it located at the top of the browser? After As soon as you have installed the extension and restarted Firefox the “Tab Bar” will have automatically moved to the top of the browser. You will most likely notice a slight decrease in tab height as well (which occurred during our tests). To move the “Tab Bar” back and forth between the top and default locations just select/deselect “Tab Bar on top” in the “Toolbars Context Menu”. You can quickly reduce the size of the upper UI after hiding some of the other toolbars and go even further if you like using extensions that will hide the “Title Bar”. This is definitely a good UI matching extension for anyone using a Chrome based theme in Firefox. Conclusion If you are unhappy with default location for Firefox’s “Tab Bar” then this extension will certainly provide an alternative option for you. Also, we have configured the window.onbeforeunload event to alert users in case there are any unsaved changes. window.onbeforeunload = confirmBeforeClose; function confirmBeforeClose() { if (jwd.global.inEditMode) return "Your changes will not be saved :) and you will be punished to death"; } In places where there are unsaved changes, and I try to use window.location.href to navigate the user, I get the alert message. It works fine if I click OK on the popup. However, if I click CANCEL, the JS throws an unspecified error at window.location.href. Any help is appreciated.

• How could Google Latitude find my exact PC location with no GPS or public wifi?

  I found a similar question here but I still don't get it. You see, I live in a small town and every time I check my IP location via online services or speed test websites, my location appears to be my ISP server location (which in my case is 250 miles away). But when I tried Google latitude, it pinpointed my exact location within less than 100 meters! I use Windows Vista, Google Chrome, and when I got the message that "Google is trying to locate you", I agreed just to check what the result will be. It was scary, very scary! What I've come up after reading the above link is that Google have a kind of extensive WiFi database locations. That could be understandable with the case of public and open WiFis that are used with a lot of people. Some of them might be using applications that could gather location data and somehow this information ends up in giant Google databases. From those, Google could pinpoint a WiFi location based on its MAC address along with these bits of info that have been gathered via various sources. The issue here is that my WiFi is private, I don't even broadcast my WiFi name. So how on earth did Google find my exact PC location? Please break down the answer in layman's terms as possible.

  So lets say we have a set of gps data points and your current location. If asked to give the closest point to your current location we can utilize a heap with the distance being the key. Now if we update the current location, I suspect that only a few of the keys will change enough to violate the heap property. Would it be more efficient to rebuild the heap after recalculating the keys or to run heapify (assuming that only a few of the keys have changed enough). It is assumed that we don't jump around with the new location (new current location is close to the last current location).

• Drupal location autosuggest doesn't recognize provinces

  I am using Drupal Location module in CCK to retreive longitude & latitude based on location (stree/city/state). There is an automatic autosuggest for State, but unfortunately recognizes only US states. I set default country to Canada, but autosuggest still only recognized US states. Is there a way to get autosuggest function to recognize Canadian provinces or to disable this feature. thanks!

  Does anyone know if Core Location in the iPhone OS uses anything but simple vector math to calculate speed? I've read that the GPS system can provide speed measurements that can be accurate when position is not (I believe using the Doppler shifts of the signals). I've tried and failed to see if the iPhone does this. The question is basically, does this data contain information or is it just convenience functions, using (filtered?) location data?

• Android Mock Location locks GPS on status bar

  I created an app that uses mock locations to insert GPS coordinates. After removing the test provider via: mLocationManager.clearTestProviderLocation(mocLocationProvider); mLocationManager.removeTestProvider(mocLocationProvider); mLocationManager.removeUpdates(mLocationListener); When I launch google maps for example after exiting the app the GPS location is found and then never goes away. "Location Set By GPS" always remains on the notification bar even though my app is ended. Any ideas?

• Combine Search Bar and URL Bar into One (WebView)

  So I'm in the midst of updating my Web Browser app for iOS devices, from the ground up, and I'm trying to implement some more convenient features. One feature that seems to be really popular now, that I have been getting a lot of requests for, is the combination of a Google Search bar and a URL bar in one, like that of the Chrome application. Below is a screenshot of the Google Chrome app, and as you can see, they've made it so you can either enter in a search query like "apple ipad" and it will return a Google search page of 'Apple iPad', or you can enter in a URL "http://apple.com/ipad/" and it will load that URL. I have looked all over the internet, but all I could find were tutorials on how to Search Google with value of the UITextField. I have a feeling that the best way to do this is to probably make a 'check'. Like if the entered value contains 'http://' 'www.' '.com' or no spaces, then load it as a URL, if not then load it in a Google Search page, and then have the webview load up the Google Search page. If anybody could show me to the right direction, that would be great, or even supplying me with some code would be even greater. :) Thanks! If anyone needs part of the code, just ask.

• Getting Public Info about Location in Facebook Graph API

  I need to get the living city of each person in a group. Including people that are not my friends. In the browser seeing facebook profile of some unknown person, they show "lives in ...", if this is set as public information. They include the link to the city object with the city id in the link. That's all that I need. But, using a facebook app that I created to use the facebook graph api, this information is not public. I can only get the user propriety 'location' from friends of my that I have permission to see it. I gave ALL the possible permissions to my app. In the api explorer, when I use it as REST, they show few informations about someone not friend of mine. https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/ Also in the api explorer, when I use the FQL, it didn't works. This query works, returning the JSON with the data: SELECT uid, name FROM user WHERE username='...'; But this other query doesn't work: SELECT uid, name, location FROM user WHERE username='...'; They return a json with a error code: { "error": { "message": "(#602) location is not a member of the user table.", "type": "OAuthException", "code": 602 } } I asked for ALL the permissions options in the token. And I can get this info in the browser version of the facebook. But how can I get it with the API ?

• Android: How to periodically check current location without draining the battery

  I have a background service which works periodically by timer.scheduleAtFixedRate. It wakes up every amount of time (let's say 60 seconds for example) and checks for the location. The location is checked by locManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 60000, 5, listener); and the actual location is collected from the listener's onLocationChanged. Now, when the phone is outside and GPS reception is good, this works fine. But, if the phone is inside, the GPS is almost always active - looking for a signal, and the battery is drained rapidly. I created another thread using a Handler and a Runnable in order to conrol the GPS active time accurately: I used locManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, listener); and locManager.removeUpdates(listener); so I can open and close the GPS as I want. In this case, I can open the GPS for the exact amount of time, but found out that it doesn't lock in an area with good reception even after 10 seconds. So here I'm draining the battery again... I'm using API level 7, hence I cannot use locationManager.requestSingleUpdate. I have two questions: Is there any way to optimize this process? Will upgrading to API level 9 (and use locationManager.requestSingleUpdate) improve the process significantly? I mean, does it worth upgrading?
