• VB.NET localization

  In my winform app in VB.NET I want to use the localization option. But i have a few questions/problems. I'm using a menu strip to select an other language. But it seems that is doesn't change my menustip text to my selected language. It does change my labels, buttons, and textboxes but menu strips don't seem to change when I choose another language. Also is it possible to get those resx files such as MyForm.fr-FR.resx compiled so it isn't an external file outside my app? Or to get those files in an Language folder at the same location of my app, so i don't have all those fr-FR, nl-Nl folders in the same location as my program?

  We're running SQL Server 2000. In our database, we have an "Orders" table with approximately 750,000 rows. We can perform simple SELECT statements on this table. However, when we want to run a query like SELECT TOP 100 * FROM Orders ORDER BY Date_Ordered DESC, we receive the following message: Error: 9002, Severity: 17, State: 6 The log file for database 'tempdb' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space. We have other tables in our database which are similar in size of the amount of records that are in the tables (i.e. 700,000 records). On these tables, we can run any queries we'd like and we never receive a message about 'tempdb being full'. To resolve this, we've backed up our database, shrunk the actual database and also shrunk the database and files in the tempdb system database, but this hasn't resolved the issue. The size of our log file is set to autogrow. We're not sure where to go next. Are there any ideas why we still might be receiving this message? • FileReference.load() not populating FileReference.data.

  I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image. However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null. I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. If I evaluate fr.load() in Eclipse's watch variables list, I get an error reading "No such variable: load." Anyone know why this is happening?

Depending on the country extension of the domain, I want to route to a specific subfolder while keeping the active domain!   I've tried to setup an EasyPHP in local and make it visible from the Web via DynDNS, which I've already successed many times before, but now this just doesn't work, maybe I've forgotten something... *The "server" is a common workstation.   We've got a website which has been running for a few years now. One of our customers has just started having an intermittent problem. Looking at our iis6.0 logs the service works correctly when they have a user agent beginning "mozilla/4.0+" but fails when the user agent begins "mozilla/5.0+". The particular customer only started having this problem on Wednesday. Does anyone know the browser/upgrade which changes the 4.0 to 5.0? The actual problem caused is that an "&" in a url parameter list is being encoded as "&amp;". Anyone seen anything similar? We have other users sending from browsers with the 5.0+ user agent without trouble. Sorry about the tags but don't have the rep to create new ones.   I have noticed some error during the Linux boot. They seem to continue to occur after the boot adding lines to the log every few seconds. Once booted this normally does not appear to be causing any problems. However, around 1 in 10 boots results in a kernel panic and the computer has on two or three occasions suddenly rebooted after being powered on for a number of hours. I presume the cause of the reboot is a kernel panic as well. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and I have had Ubuntu installed on the computer for around a year. I have googled around and not found anything useful. I have provided the kernel log lines and the output of smartctl. • Yahoo search: different results shown in two identical searches

  Hello,simple question: searching on http://www.yahoo.it for villa matrimonio bologna I noticed Yahoo shows different results. You need to retry few times to get this done maybe exiting the browser and openeing it again, or maybe searching once and then clearing browser cookies and then search again (it's even easier to test if you use two different browsers at the same time to search for the same phrase). Anyway in order to reproduce this easily I write down here the query shown in the address bar after the search, so you can just click on these to see the results shown by entering these query: http://it.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AirvLYKvBMPP_6MpAmONN14brK5_?vc=&p=villa+matrimonio+bologna&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-709 http://it.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AirvLYKvBMPP_6MpAmONN14brK5_?vc=&p=villa+matrimonio+bologna&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=sfp Note the last parameter fr is different, but it's Yahoo that set it (not me), I don't even know what it means. You can see in the search box that the searched phrase is IDENTICAL in both cases. So why Yahoo is giving out different results on same search phrase? I used the same browser and performed the test in few minutes by simply trying more than once. You may also notice that the number of results returned (written on the left side of the page) is different, for the 1st search it returns 274K results, for the 2nd one 5.38M results. Actually you might think that this is just an error on Yahoo, but it's almost 1 year that while looking once in a while at some websites to see how they are ranking on Yahoo and also Google, I noticed that two searches on the same phrase show up different results even on the same day after few minutes/hours. I couldn't reproduce this behaviour also on Google so I can not say for sure, but since it seems to me it happened sometimes I was wondering if anyone of you noticed it too. Do you know if this is the normal behaviour of search engines? Because if it's normal (and it's just me that noticed it only now) I wonder how do you understand how well a site is ranking on a search engine, you could even see one of your customer's website ranking differently compared to what your customer sees on his PC.

• Creating 2 IIS asp.net applications and making 1 the root.

  I'm using godaddy. I have 2 applications I want to install on the server. One named en and the other fr (english and french). On the en application, I checked Make Application Root. Now I assumed I could go to www.mysite.com and it automatically loads www.mysite.com/en/. I have to go to the directory manually. How do I fix this? My file structure is: www.mysite.com/en for the en app and www.mysite.com/fr for the fr app.

• How to make Google recognize language for a multilingual website?

  Few weeks ago, I implemented translation functionality for the website of my company. The website is now available in french and english and I did look on the internet the best way to do if we want to do not lose any ranking and to have our pages on Google. Here is what I did: I did set a response header: Content-Language:en and Content-Language:fr My URLs are formatted as: http://www.website.com/en/... and http://www.website.com/fr/... My html tag is set with a lang attribute: <html lang="en"> and <html lang="fr"> There is a <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="EnglishPageUrl"> on french pages and a <link rel="alternate" hreflang="en" href="frenchPageUrl"> on english pages. But Google keeps referring to some english pages when I'm doing a search on french engine, knowing that the website was first only available in english. Is that normal? Do I have to wait still, it has been now almost one month, I thought it would be okay...? Thank you.

• SEO & Multilingual: would be this a good practise?

  I am currently making a bilingual website and I'd like to get nice SEO results of course. Here's my idea: The internal links would be composed of the "www" subdomain so that people can share links regardless of their language. Anyway, their language is determined by the HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE PHP variable. So, they would see http:// www.site.com/mydocument/123 in their adress bar and never see any links like "http:// fr.site.com/mydocument/123" or "http://en.site.com/mydocument/123" The user can always switch the page's language thanks to links in the footer. The switching language link would be : http:// fr.site.com/mydocument/123 , and clicking on it would change his language session and redirects the user to http:// www.site.com/mydocument/123 In case of a crawling bot: I read that if the HTTP_USER_LANGUAGE variable was missing then it's a crawling bot. So, in that case, we set the defaut language as English. Each page, as I mentionned earlier, has a link for another language: On the page: http:// www.site.com/document/1323, the link http:// fr.site.com/document/1323 can be seen by the bot and be crawled. What do you think about this practise ? Would I get good SEO results for each language ?

• ELF: linking: Why do I get undefined references in .so files

  Hi, I'm trying to build a program against wxWidgets, and I get a linker error. I'd like to really understand what it means. The error is: /usr/lib/libwx_baseu-2.8.so: undefined reference to `std::ctype<char>::_M_widen_init() const@GLIBCXX_3.4.11' What I don't understand is why the error is at libwx_baseu-2.8.so. I thought that .so files had all its symbols resolved, contrary to .o files that still need linking. When I ldd the .so, I get can resolve all its linked libraries, so there is no problem there: $ ldd /usr/lib/libwx_baseu-2.8.so linux-gate.so.1 => (0x00476000) libz.so.1 => /lib/libz.so.1 (0x00d9c000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x002a8000) libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x00759000) libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x002ad000) libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x0068d000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x006f0000) libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00477000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x007f6000) Does it means that the .so file was not compiled correctly (in that case, it's a bug in my distribution package) or does it means that there are missing libraries on the linker command line for my particular program?
