  • Changing Tint / Background color of UITabBar

    - by pixel
The UINavigationBar and UISearchBar both have a tintColor property that allows you to change the tint color (surprising, I know) of both of those items. I want to do the same thing to the UITabBar in my application, but have found now way to change it from the default black color. Any ideas?

  • iPhone database load

    - by Mizan
I have a sqlite databse that holds a table. The table contains about 7500 data. I've fetch the 7500 data in a UITableView. A UISearchBar is used to search the UITableView. There is no problem in simulator but when I run in a iPhone device, then it will take time to load and when I type to SearchBar then it hangs the device keyboard. Is there any optimal solution to load 7500 data in a UITableView?

  • Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the didSelectRowAtIndexPath moethod?

    - by John Wells
I am having an odd problem when searching a UITableView using a UISearchDisplayController. The UITableViewController is a subclass of another UITableViewController with a working didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Without searching the controller handles selections fine, sending the superclass a didSelectRowAtIndexPath call, but if I select a cell when searching the superclass receives nothing but the cell is highlighted. Below is the code from my subclass. @implementation AdvancedViewController @synthesize searchDisplayController, dict, filteredList; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Programmatically set up search bar UISearchBar *mySearchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] init]; mySearchBar.delegate = self; [mySearchBar setAutocapitalizationType:UITextAutocapitalizationTypeNone]; [mySearchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = mySearchBar; // Programmatically set up search display controller searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:mySearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; // Parse data from server NSData * jsonData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; NSArray * items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray:[[CJSONDeserializer deserializer] deserializeAsArray:jsonData error:nil]]; // Init variables dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; listIndex = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; fullList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; filteredList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Get each item and format it for the UI for(NSMutableArray * item in items) { // Get the first letter NSString * firstKey = [[[item objectAtIndex:0] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0,1)] uppercaseString]; // Put symbols and numbers in the same section if ([[firstKey stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[[NSCharacterSet letterCharacterSet] invertedSet]] isEqualToString:@""]) firstKey = @"#"; // If there isn't a section with this key if (![listIndex containsObject:firstKey]) { // Add the key to the index for faster access (because it's already sorted) [listIndex addObject:firstKey]; // Add the key to the unordered dictionary [dict setObject:[NSMutableArray array] forKey:firstKey]; } // Add the object to the dictionary [[dict objectForKey:firstKey] addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; // Add the object to the list for simple searching [fullList addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; } filteredList = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[fullList count]]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view data source // Custom method for object oriented data access - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView dataForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath withKey:(NSString *)key { return (NSString *)((tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) ? • UIView animation doesn't work first time

    - by BobC
Hello everybody, I have a seachButton in the navigation bar which upon hitting calls following method: - (IBAction)search:(id)sender { if (nil == searchViewController) searchViewController = [[SearchViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SearchViewController" bundle:nil]; searchViewController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:1.0]; [UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionCurlDown forView:searchViewController.view cache:NO]; [self.view addSubview:searchViewController.view]; [UIView commitAnimations]; } It should load SearchViewController.xib which contains a view with UISearchBar and two buttons. When I call the search method for the first time, the view appears very quickly with some weird animation, when I call it again, the animation is alright. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong?

  • Problem searching a NSMutableArray

Basically, I have a UISearchBar searching an NSMutableArray of stories that make up an RSS feed, and when you select a story, it loads in my app's UIWebView. It's difficult to explain, but I have a list of entries 1, 2, 3, and 4 and you search for '4'. 4 will be the first entry in the now-filtered list of data, right? You'd think that by selecting 4, it would load in the UIWebView. Well, the app seems to not recognize that you're selecting the first entry in a filtered list of data, and instead thinks that you're selecting the first entry in the unfiltered array of data, so it loads entry 1. Everything looks right in my code, but obviously it isn't. I know it's a confusing problem, but I hope I made it somewhat clear. Anyway, here's the relevant source so that you may see exactly what I mean: Search.h: http://www.scribd.com/doc/13107802/Searchh Search.m: http://www.scribd.com/doc/13107812/Searchm

  • Increasing width of UISearchDisplayController PopOver Results

    - by George
I have an iPad app that has a UISearchBar in its navigation bar. When I enter text in the search bar the results are automatically displayed in a UIPopOverController. That's great except the popover's default size is not wide enough for my needs. Is there a way to set its width? Apple has done this themselves with Safari's search bar. The popover that displays search results is a good bit wider than the default and they have removed the "Results" title from the popover.

  • Different background colors for the top and bottom of a UITableView

    - by Aaron Brethorst
If you look at your Inbox in iPhone OS 3.0's Mail app, you'll see that swiping down displays a grayish background color above the UISearchBar. Now, if you scroll down to the bottom of the table, you'll see that the background color at that end is white. I can think of a couple ways of solving this problem, but they're pretty hacky: Change the table view's background color depending on the current scrollOffset by overriding -scrollViewDidScroll: Give the UITableView a clear background color and then set its superview's backgroundColor to a gradient pattern image. Does anyone know what the "best practice" solution is for this problem? thanks.

  • iphone - Search bar disappears from my root view controller

    - by Sudharsanan
Hi, I have a search bar in my main screen - root table view controller. If I browse other screens and come back, sometimes, the search bar disappears. Here's my code. searchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.tableView.frame.size.width, 0)]; searchBar.delegate = self; searchBar.tintColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [searchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = searchBar; searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:searchBar contentsController:self]; searchDisplayController.delegate = self; searchDisplayController.searchResultsDataSource = self; searchDisplayController.searchResultsDelegate = self; Is there anything wrong with my code or is it one of the quirks of SDK 3.0?

  • UIView Animation animates position but not width

    - by Aaron Vegh
Hi there, I'm trying to transform a UISearchBar, like in Mobile Safari: touch in the search field and it grows while the location field shrinks. My current animation to alter the width and position of the search field only animates the position: just before it slides to the right place, it simply snaps out to the right width. Here's my code: [UIView beginAnimations:@"searchGrowUp" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseIn]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5f]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; CGFloat findFieldWidth = findField.frame.size.width; CGFloat urlFieldWidth = urlField.frame.size.width; CGRect findFieldFrame = findField.frame; CGRect urlFieldFrame = urlField.frame; findFieldFrame.origin.x = findFieldFrame.origin.x - 150.0f; findFieldFrame.size.width = findFieldWidth + 150.0f; urlFieldFrame.size.width = urlFieldWidth - 150.0f; urlField.frame = urlFieldFrame; findField.frame = findFieldFrame; [UIView commitAnimations]; I've modified this code slightly for the sake of presenting it here, but I hope this gives the gist. Any guesses as to why this is happening would be appreciated! Cheers, Aaron.

  • weak or strong for IBOutlet and other

    - by Piero
I have switched my project to ARC, and I don't understand if I have to use strong or weak for IBOutlets. Xcode do this: in interface builder, if a create a UILabel for example and I connect it with assistant editor to my ViewController, it create this: @property (nonatomic, strong) UILabel *aLabel; It uses the strong, instead I read a tutorial on RayWenderlich website that say this: But for these two particular properties I have other plans. Instead of strong, we will declare them as weak. @property (nonatomic, weak) IBOutlet UITableView *tableView; @property (nonatomic, weak) IBOutlet UISearchBar *searchBar; Weak is the recommended relationship for all outlet properties. These view objects are already part of the view controller’s view hierarchy and don’t need to be retained elsewhere. The big advantage of declaring your outlets weak is that it saves you time writing the viewDidUnload method. Currently our viewDidUnload looks like this: - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; self.tableView = nil; self.searchBar = nil; soundEffect = nil; } You can now simplify it to the following: - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; soundEffect = nil; } So use weak, instead of the strong, and remove the set to nil in the videDidUnload, instead Xcode use the strong, and use the self... = nil in the viewDidUnload. My question is: when do I have to use strong, and when weak? I want also use for deployment target iOS 4, so when do I have to use the unsafe_unretain? Anyone can help to explain me well with a small tutorial, when use strong, weak and unsafe_unretain with ARC?

  • Unrecognised selector sent to instance uitableview

  • NSCFArray leak in the NSMutablearray allocation

  • iPhone: Speeding up a search that's polling 17,000 Core Data objects

    - by randombits
I have a class that conforms to UISearchDisplayDelegate and contains a UISearchBar. This view is responsible for allowing the user to poll a store of about 17,000 objects that are currently managed by Core Data. Everytime the user types in a character, I created an instance of a SearchOperation (subclasses NSOperation) that queries Core Data to find results that might match the search. The code in the search controller looks something like: - (void)filterContentForSearchText:(NSString*)searchText scope:(NSString*)scope { // Update the filtered array based on the search text and scope in a secondary thread if ([searchText length] < 3) { [filteredList removeAllObjects]; // First clear the filtered array. [self setFilteredList:NULL]; [self.tableView reloadData]; return; } NSDictionary *searchdict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:scope, @"scope", searchText, @"searchText", nil]; [aSearchQueue cancelAllOperations]; SearchOperation *searchOp = [[SearchOperation alloc] initWithDelegate:self dataDict:searchdict]; [aSearchQueue addOperation:searchOp]; } And my search is rather straight forward. SearchOperation is a subclass of NSOperation. I overwrote the main method with the following code: - (void)main { if ([self isCancelled]) { return; } NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"MyEntity" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [fetchRequest setEntity:entity]; NSPredicate *predicate = NULL; predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(someattr contains[cd] %@)", searchText]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSError *error = NULL; NSArray *fetchResults = [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; [fetchRequest release]; if (self.delegate != nil) [self.delegate didFinishSearching:fetchResults]; [pool drain]; } This code works, but it has several issues. It's slow. Even though I have the search happening in a separate thread other than the UI thread, querying 17,000 objects is clearly not optimal. If I'm not careful, crashes can happen. I set the max concurrent searches in my NSOperationQueue to 1 to avoid this. What else can I do to make this search faster? I think preloading all 17,000 objects into memory might be risky. There has to be a smarter way to conduct this search to give results back to the user faster.
