  • Ubuntu Software Center: Add option to launch application after installation

    Does any body know why Ubuntu Software Center can not launch applications after installation ? All user install application only for one purpose - launch it and use. Why we need to install it and after that search it in number of menus. Even Packages are mixed with applications that why not just allow to launch only applications that put smth in menu. Example of such convenient application center - android market, ... . Ubuntu 11.10 have pretty/sexy center but .... vital function still missed.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed as CLI, and desired to have some light-weight (less resource consuming, slow-system friendly) GUI. What are my options and how can I accomplish this?

    Hi, I'm querying an SQL Server database using SQLAlchemy and need to cast a column to varbinary(max). The thing I am struggling with is the "max" part. I can get the cast to work for any actual number (say varbinary(20)), but I cannot find how to get it to work for the "max" size of the varbinary column. Any pointers? Links? Solutions? It has several columns with useful, often queried data and one column that stores a relatively large string per record (1000+ characters) that is not queried often.   • Should I add old code into my repository?

    I've got an SVN repository of a PHP site and the last programmer didn't use source control properly. As a result, only code since I started working here is in the Repo. I have a bunch of old copies of the full code base saved in files as "backups" but they're not in source control. I don't know why most of the copies were saved nor do I have any reasonable way to tag them to a version number. Due to upgrades to the frameworks and database drivers involved, the old code is quite defunct; it no longer works on the current server config. However, the previous programmers had some...unique...logic, so I hate to be completely without old copies to refer to what on earth they were doing. Should I keep this stuff in version control? How? Wall off the old code in separate Tags/branches?

    How can i calulate a valid range (RED) for my object's (BLACK) traveling direction (GREEN). The green is a Vector2 where x and y range is -1 to 1. What I'm trying to do here is to create rocket fuel burn effekt. So what i got is rocket speed (float) rocket direction (Vector2 x = [-1, 1], y = [-1, 1]) I may think that rocket speed does not matter as fuel burn effect (particle) is created on position with its own speed.

    Hi, In entity framework is there a way to have a default value for a column such that Linq to Entity won't require this parameter when constructing a new object? For example I've marked on column in the EF designer with a default value (I typed in "All" as it was a string). But if I try to construct a new record and not specify this parameter I still get a FOREIGN KEY constraint exception. The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_FunctionalityTypeInterfaceRelationship"
