  • Copy Excel Formatting the Easy Way with Format Painter

    - by DigitalGeekery
    The Format Painter in Excel makes it easy to copy the formatting of a cell and apply it to another. With just a few clicks you can reproduce formatting such as fonts, alignment, text size, border, and background color. On any Excel worksheet, click on the cell with the formatting you’d like to copy.  You will see dashed lines around the selected cell. Then select the Home tab and click on the Format Painter.   You’ll see your cursor now includes a paintbrush graphic. Move to the cell where you’d like to apply the formatting and click on it. Your target cell will now have the new formatting.   If you double-clicking on Format Painter you can then click on multiple individual files to which to apply the format. Or, you can click and drag across a group of cells. When you are finished applying formats, click on Format Painter again, or on the Esc key, to turn it off. The Format Painter is a very simple, but extremely useful and time saving tool when creating complex worksheets. • Why can't I connect to a Cisco wireless access point?

    - by spinlock
    I'm running a Lucid Netbook Remix on my Dell Inspiron 600m and I was not able to connect to the wireless network at the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View yesterday. There were plenty of other people on the network - MS, Mac, and Linux boxes - but my laptop would never get an ip address. I can connect to my home network, which is open, and I've never had a problem connecting at the coffee shop, which uses WPA. The Hacker Dojo is running WPA and we checked the password a number of times but got no love. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. • Partial recalculation of visibility on a 2D uniform grid

    - by Martin Källman
    Problem Imagine that we have a 2D uniform grid of dimensions N x N. For this grid we have also pre-computed a visibility look-up table, e.g. with DDA, which answers the boolean query is cell X visible from cell Y? The look-up table is a complete graph KN of the cells V in the grid, with each edge E being a binary value denoting the visibility between its vertices. Question If any given cell has its visibility modified, is it possible to extract the subset Edelta of edges which must have their visibility recomputed due to the change, so as to avoid a full-on recomputation for the entire grid? (Which is N(N-1) / 2 or N2 depending on the implementation) Update If is not possible to solve thi in closed form, then maintaining a separate mapping of each cell and every cell pair who's line intersects said cell might also be an option. This obviously consumes more memory, but the data is static. The increased memory requirement could be reduced by introducing a hierarchy, subdividing the grid into smaller parts, and by doing so the above mapping can be reused for each sub-grid. This would come at a cost in terms of increased computation relative to the number of subdivisions; also requiring a resumable ray-casting algorithm.

  • How do I improve terrain rendering batch counts using DirectX?

    - by gamer747
    We have determined that our terrain rendering system needs some work to minimize the number of batches being transferred to the GPU in order to improve performance. I'm looking for suggestions on how best to improve what we're trying to accomplish. We logically split our terrain mesh into smaller grid cells which are 32x32 world units. Each cell has meta data that dictates the four 256x256 textures that are used for spatting along with the alpha blend data, shadow, and light mappings. Each cell contains 81 vertices in a 9x9 grid. Presently, we examine each cell and determine the four textures that are being used to spat the cell. We combine that geometry with any other cell that perhaps uses the same four textures regardless of spat order. If the spat order for a cell differs, the blend map is adjusted so that the spat order is maintained the same as other like cells and blending happens in the right order too. But even with this batching approach, it isn't uncommon when looking out across an area of open terrain to have between 1200-1700 batch count depending upon how frequently textures differ or have different texture blends are between cells. We are only doing frustum culling presently. So using texture spatting, are there other alternatives that can reduce the batch count and allow rendering to be extremely performance-friendly even under DirectX9c? We considered using texture atlases since we're targeting DirectX 9c & older OpenGL platforms but trying to repeat textures using atlases and shaders result in seam artifacts which we haven't been able to eliminate with the exception of disabling mipmapping. Disabling mipmapping results in poor quality textures from a distance. How have others batched together terrain geometry such that one could spat terrain using various textures, minimizing batch count and texture state switches so that rendering performance isn't negatively impacted?

  • Multiple errors while adding searching to app

    - by Thijs
    Hi, I'm fairly new at iOS programming, but I managed to make a (in my opinion quite nice) app for the app store. The main function for my next update will be a search option for the app. I followed a tutorial I found on the internet and adapted it to fit my app. I got back quite some errors, most of which I managed to fix. But now I'm completely stuck and don't know what to do next. I know it's a lot to ask, but if anyone could take a look at the code underneath, it would be greatly appreciated. • using a custom nstextfieldcell in an nstextfield

    - by joels
    I have a custom nstextfieldcell. I thought I could drag a textfield to a xib and click on it's cell, then change the cell's class to my custom class.That doesn't work. Also, I thought I could drag the custom cell from the library (i made a plugin) over the textfield and it would set the new cell like in a table. That doesn't work either. Does anybody know how to use a custom cell in a textfield?

    I have a problem with a continue statement in my C# Foreach loop. I want it to check if there is a blank cell in the datagridview, and if so, then skip printing the value out and carry on to check the next cell. Help appreciated greatly. Here is the code: foreach (DataGridViewRow row in this.dataGridView1.Rows) { foreach (DataGridViewCell cell in row.Cells) { if (cell.Size.IsEmpty) { continue; } MessageBox.Show(cell.Value.ToString()); } }

  • Implementation of Nib project to Storyboard, Xcode

    - by Blake Loizides
    I have made a tabbed bar application in storyboard in xcode. I,m new to xcode. I got a Sample TableView XIB project from apple that I edited to my needs,The project has a UITableView that I Customized with Images, And with help of a certain forum member I was able to link up each image to a New View Controller. I tried to port or integrate My Nib Project Code to my StoryBoard Tabbed Bar Application.I thought I had everything right had to comment out a few things to get no errors, But the project only goes to a Blank Table View. Below are 2 links, 1 to my StoryBoard Tabbed Bar Application with the Table Code that I tried to integrate and the other My Successful Nib Project. Also is some code and pictures. If anybody has some free time and does not mind to help I would be extremely grateful for any input given. link1 - Storyboard link2 - XIB DecorsViewController_iPhone.m // // TableViewsViewController.m // TableViews // // Created by Axit Patel on 9/2/10. // Copyright Bayside High School 2010. • How can I capture the keystroke that triggers "CellEndEdit" on a DataGridView in C#?

    - by Andy Stampor
    I have a DataGridView that is set to EditOnF2. I do some special processing of data in the CellEndEdit eventhandler that sets the value of the cell. I still want the functionality of the EditOnKeystrokeOrF2 of reverting to the original value when the Esc key is pressed. Unfortunately, at the CellEndEdit eventhandler, I don't see a way to tell what caused the CellEndEdit event to be fired. I only want to change the value of the cell if the Esc key is not pressed. How can I tell if it was or not? Edit: It is worth noting that the KeyDown event does not get fired when the cell is being edited, nor for the final ending keystroke. Edit2: I have tried the KeyPreview suggestion, but the form still does not capture the Escape key being pressed. Edit3: I've been experimenting with trying to get this working. I originally posted some of the following as a separate post, but feel it might be more relevant to include it here. I have a cell in a DataGridView that is now set to EditProgrammatically. To capture the keystroke that starts an edit, I am setting the cell.Value equal to the keystroke. However, this ruins the "Escape" functionality of the cell - when you press escape, instead of reverting to the original value, it reverts to the keystroke that I programmatically inserted into the cell. I believe that if I could set the "EditedFormattedValue" on a cell, this would be where I want to put my keystroke value, however this appears to be read only. How can I accomplish what I am attempting? An example to clarify: If the cell has a value of "54.3" in it, and I press the "9" key, it begins editing the cell and places a "9" there. If I hit Escape, instead of reverting to "54.3" it reverts to "9". What I want is for it to return to its original value of "54.3". So, I am trying to tackle this issue from both the beginning and the end. I think the real problem is that I am overwriting the original value and have no way to determine if I should revert it or not. Edit4: It looks like CellValidating might be worth using, but I am seeing strange behavior when I experiment with it. In a new project, I create the DataGridView and register for the various events and see that CellValidating is fired before the CellEndEdit. However, in my project where I am trying to get this to work, CellEndEdit is firing BEFORE CellValidating. Any ideas on what the difference might be?

  • How To Load Images into Custom UITableViewCell?

    - by Clifton Burt
    This problem is simple, but crucial and urgent. Here's what needs to be done: load 66px x 66px images into the table cells in the MainViewController table. each TableCell has a unique image. • How do you link a time stamp to a cell using a userform button control? [migrated]

    - by Chad Cochrane
    Hello fellow VB Developers/Users/Hobbyists/What-Have-You! I have a user form that has two buttons: 1. Start 2. Stop When I press start, I would like it to record the current time with this format: (dd/mm/yy hh:nn:ss:) in a specific column. Then when I press the Stop Button I would like it to record the time again in the cell next to it. Then if I press start Again I would like it to record below the first cells current record. Basically I am building a timer to record data to see how long certain tasks take. I will post the excel file and provide more information were necessary. Thanks for any help provided. • jQuery / jEditable and jQuery UI Dialog. Re-populating table cell.

    - by solefald
    Hello, this is my first time using JS, so i really have no idea what i am doing. I have a table with data, and using jEditable to allow a user to edit the data and POST it to my php script. When user hits "Save", it opens jQuery UI with the data from php script and it seems to work fine, however, if the user hits Cancel or Esc to close the jQuery UI dialog, they and up back on the page, but the cell they tried to edit is now completely empty. How do i get the cell re-populated? Thank you! $(".editable_textarea").editable("/path/to/my/scrip.php", { indicator : "<img src='/images/indicator.gif'>", type : 'textarea', submitdata: { _method: "post", uri: "<?php echo $this->uri->segment(3); ?>" }, select : false, submit : 'Save', cancel : 'Cancel', tooltip : "Click to edit...", cssclass : "editable", onblur: "cancel", cssclass: "edit_destination", callback: function(value, settings) { $(this).dialog({ autoOpen: true, width: 400, modal: true, position: "center", resizable: false, draggable: false, title: "Pending Changes", buttons: { "Cancel": function() { $(this).dialog("close"); }, "Confirm Changes": function() { document.findSameDestination.submit(); } } }); $('form#findSameDestination').submit(function(){ $(this).dialog('open'); return false; }); $(this).editable("disable"); }, data: function(value, settings) { var retval = value.replace(/<br[\s\/]?>/gi, '\n'); retval = retval.replace(/(<([^>]+)>)/gi, ''); return retval; } });

  • How to programmatically set the text of a cell of database in VB.Net?

    - by manuel
    I have a Microsoft Access database file connected to VB.NET. In the database table, I have a 'No.' and a 'Status' column. Then I have a textbox where I can input an integer. I also have a button, which will change the data cell in 'Status' where 'No.' = txtTitleNo.Text(), when I click it. Let's say I want the 'Status' cell to be changed to "Reserved". What codes should I put in the BtnReserve_Click? Here is the code: Public Class theForm Dim con As New OleDb.OleDbConnection Dim ds As New DataSet Dim daTitles As OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter Private Sub theForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load con.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=|DataDirectory|\db1.mdb" con.Open() daTitles = New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM Titles", con) daTitles.Fill(ds, "Titles") DataGridView1.DataSource = ds.Tables("Titles") DataGridView1.AutoResizeColumns() End Sub Private Sub BtnReserve_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BtnReserve.Click Dim daReserve As OleDb.OleDbCommand For i As Integer = 1 TReservedo DataGridView1.RowCount() If i = Val(txtTitleNo.Text()) Then daReserve = New OleDb.OleDbCommand("UPDATE Titles SET Status = 'Reserved' WHERE No = '" & i & "'", con) daReserve.ExecuteNonQuery() End If Next Dim cb As New OleDb.OleDbCommandBuilder(daTitles) daTitles.Update(ds, "Titles") End Sub This code still does not change the 'Status'. What should I do?

  • How do I prevent my table cell's textview from being editable after editing is done?

    - by Gorgando
    So this is an interesting problem. I have custom tableviewcells that include a text field. When In my cellForRowAtIndexPath I have an if statement that determines whether or not the cell's text field should be editable- it looks like this: (self.isEditing) ? [infoCell.textField setEnabled:YES] : [infoCell.textField setEnabled:NO]; This actually works well - except for the issue I'm having. It makes it so that when the tableview is displayed, the rows' text field cannot be edited. When the user clicks "Edit" to put it into editing mode, then the text fields are enabled for editing. The Problem: When I am editing a field, and click "Done", it goes back to the regular tableview but the keyboard stays visible and the last cell's text field I was editing continues to be editable. What Should happen: The keyboard should go away and all the cells' text fields should no longer be editable. Any ideas about what could be going wrong? Things to look for? Thanks!

  • Algorithm to Find the Aggregate Mass of "Granola Bar"-Like Structures?

    - by Stuart Robbins
    I'm a planetary science researcher and one project I'm working on is N-body simulations of Saturn's rings. The goal of this particular study is to watch as particles clump together under their own self-gravity and measure the aggregate mass of the clumps versus the mean velocity of all particles in the cell. We're trying to figure out if this can explain some observations made by the Cassini spacecraft during the Saturnian summer solstice when large structures were seen casting shadows on the nearly edge-on rings. Below is a screenshot of what any given timestep looks like. (Each particle is 2 m in diameter and the simulation cell itself is around 700 m across.) The code I'm using already spits out the mean velocity at every timestep. What I need to do is figure out a way to determine the mass of particles in the clumps and NOT the stray particles between them. I know every particle's position, mass, size, etc., but I don't know easily that, say, particles 30,000-40,000 along with 102,000-105,000 make up one strand that to the human eye is obvious. So, the algorithm I need to write would need to be a code with as few user-entered parameters as possible (for replicability and objectivity) that would go through all the particle positions, figure out what particles belong to clumps, and then calculate the mass. It would be great if it could do it for "each" clump/strand as opposed to everything over the cell, but I don't think I actually need it to separate them out. The only thing I was thinking of was doing some sort of N2 distance calculation where I'd calculate the distance between every particle and if, say, the closest 100 particles were within a certain distance, then that particle would be considered part of a cluster. But that seems pretty sloppy and I was hoping that you CS folks and programmers might know of a more elegant solution? Edited with My Solution: What I did was to take a sort of nearest-neighbor / cluster approach and do the quick-n-dirty N2 implementation first. So, take every particle, calculate distance to all other particles, and the threshold for in a cluster or not was whether there were N particles within d distance (two parameters that have to be set a priori, unfortunately, but as was said by some responses/comments, I wasn't going to get away with not having some of those). I then sped it up by not sorting distances but simply doing an order N search and increment a counter for the particles within d, and that sped stuff up by a factor of 6. Then I added a "stupid programmer's tree" (because I know next to nothing about tree codes). I divide up the simulation cell into a set number of grids (best results when grid size ˜7 d) where the main grid lines up with the cell, one grid is offset by half in x and y, and the other two are offset by 1/4 in ±x and ±y. The code then divides particles into the grids, then each particle N only has to have distances calculated to the other particles in that cell. Theoretically, if this were a real tree, I should get order N*log(N) as opposed to N2 speeds. I got somewhere between the two, where for a 50,000-particle sub-set I got a 17x increase in speed, and for a 150,000-particle cell, I got a 38x increase in speed. 12 seconds for the first, 53 seconds for the second, 460 seconds for a 500,000-particle cell. Those are comparable speeds to how long the code takes to run the simulation 1 timestep forward, so that's reasonable at this point. Oh -- and it's fully threaded, so it'll take as many processors as I can throw at it.

  • Can anybody help me in designing my UITableView into MVC Pattern ?

    - by user2877880
    I have written a ViewController in which i get data from the internet and display it in a UItableview using a json parser which uses object for key to identify its objects. What i would like your help in is to convert it into MVC pattern to make it less clumsy instead of including everything in the same controller class. Please try explaining it to me in terms of my code. THANKS IN ADVANCE. The code is as given below #import "ViewController.h" #import "AFNetworking.h" #import "ModelTableArray.h" @implementation ViewController @synthesize tableView = _tableView, activityIndicatorView = _activityIndicatorView, movies = _movies; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Setting Up Table View self.tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, self.view.bounds.size.width, self.view.bounds.size.height) style:UITableViewStylePlain]; self.tableView.dataSource = self; self.tableView.delegate = self; self.tableView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; self.tableView.hidden = YES; [self.view addSubview:self.tableView]; // Setting Up Activity Indicator View self.activityIndicatorView = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleGray]; self.activityIndicatorView.hidesWhenStopped = YES; self.activityIndicatorView.center = self.view.center; [self.view addSubview:self.activityIndicatorView]; [self.activityIndicatorView startAnimating]; // Initializing Data Source self.movies = [[NSArray alloc] init]; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://itunes.apple.com/search?term=rocky&country=us&entity=movie"]; NSURLRequest *request = [[NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; UIRefreshControl *refreshControl = [[UIRefreshControl alloc] init]; [refreshControl addTarget:self action:@selector(refresh:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; [self.tableView addSubview:refreshControl]; [refreshControl endRefreshing]; AFJSONRequestOperation *operation = [AFJSONRequestOperation JSONRequestOperationWithRequest:request success:^(NSURLRequest *request, NSHTTPURLResponse *response, id JSON) { self.movies = [JSON objectForKey:@"results"]; [self.activityIndicatorView stopAnimating]; [self.tableView setHidden:NO]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } failure:^(NSURLRequest *request, NSHTTPURLResponse *response, NSError *error, id JSON) { NSLog(@"Request Failed with Error: %@, %@", error, error.userInfo); }]; [operation start]; } - (void)refresh:(UIRefreshControl *)sender { NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:@"http://itunes.apple.com/search?term=rambo&country=us&entity=movie"]; NSURLRequest *request = [[NSURLRequest alloc] initWithURL:url]; AFJSONRequestOperation *operation = [AFJSONRequestOperation JSONRequestOperationWithRequest:request success:^(NSURLRequest *request, NSHTTPURLResponse *response, id JSON) { self.movies = [JSON objectForKey:@"results"]; [self.activityIndicatorView stopAnimating]; [self.tableView setHidden:NO]; [self.tableView reloadData]; } failure:^(NSURLRequest *request, NSHTTPURLResponse *response, NSError *error, id JSON) { NSLog(@"Request Failed with Error: %@, %@", error, error.userInfo); }]; [operation start]; [sender endRefreshing]; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } // Table View Data Source Methods - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (self.movies && self.movies.count) { return self.movies.count; } else { return 0; } } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *cellID = @"Cell Identifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellID]; if (!cell) { cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:cellID]; } NSDictionary *movie = [self.movies objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [movie objectForKey:@"trackName"]; cell.detailTextLabel.text = [movie objectForKey:@"artistName"]; NSURL *url = [[NSURL alloc] initWithString:[movie objectForKey:@"artworkUrl100"]]; [cell.imageView setImageWithURL:url placeholderImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"placeholder"]]; return cell; } @end

  • iphone Dev - activity indicator with NSThread not working on Nav controller table view

    - by Frames84
    I really can't get this to work, basically when my JSON feeds loads I want the indicator to show, then hide when it's stopped. It loads top level menu items 1st "Publishing, Broadcasting, Marketing Services", then when Broadcasting is selected it loads a feed using the JSON framework hosted on Google. Round this load I call startIndicator and stopIndicator using the NSThread. Have I missed something? @implementation GeneralNewsTableViewController @synthesize dataList; @synthesize generalNewsDetailViewController; @synthesize atLevel; -(void) startIndicator { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc ] init ]; • How to trigger a Symbian C++ application within a J2ME application for Nokia phones using J2ME API?

    - by kennykee
    Hi all, Anyone knows how to trigger a Symbian C++ application using any J2ME API call? I have a J2ME application that needs a customized photo taking application in Symbian C++. The reason for separating into two applications is because J2ME has a limit in heap size and the J2ME needs to know the path of photo after taking it. Thanks a lot for your help. Regards, Kenny

  • Semantic stuff (RDF, OWL) on mobile phones - is it possible?

    - by Brian Schimmel
    I'm thinking about using semantic (web) technogies like RDF and OWL in an application on mobile devices. Currently I'm targeting android, but I'd also be interested in the possibilities on the iPhone and on J2ME. I would like to use a lib instead of implementing everything from scratch. I know that there are some libraries and frameworks like Jena, Redland, Protégé but they don't state on which platforms they are known to work. Having a dynamic object model and parsing from and to XML are must-haves for me. I'd also like to use reasoning, but I've been told it was rather computing-intensive, so that's only a nice-to-have. For all platforms mentioned, the question can be interpreted as Is it possible in theory (especially for J2ME I'm not sure) Are there libs that are known to work on those platforms? Is the performance on a mobile platform good enough for real world usage?
