  • JSR 348, 355, and 358: Moving JCP Forward

    The three-step JCP evolution consists of the following JSRs: • JSR 348, JCP transparency • JSR 355, Merging the two existing Executive Committees • JSR 358, complex issues moved postponed from JSR 348 The JSR 348 is already completed and JSR 355 is scheduled to be complete later this year. JSR 358 was recently filed and plans to revise several items such as modify the JSPA, Process Document, and a large number of complex issues. Because of the nature and scope of work, the Expert Group consists of representatives from all companies in the Executive Committee. Following the process set by JSR 348, all the work is done in open at jsr358.java.net. All the email discussions are here and JIRA here. Read Patrick Curran's blog for more details as well. The JSR review ballot ends on Jul 9th however the work has already happening for the past few months. Now is your chance to contribute and make JCP more effective!

  • How do I reference sqlite db column to use in update statement

    I am trying to update a datetime column in an android sqlite db to use international date format (yyyy-mm-dd) instead of the current format (mm/dd/yyyy). I want to use the sqlite date() function to reformat the current value of the column. I thought it would be as simple as the following: update tblename set thedate = date(thedate) but the above does not work. How would i write the sql statement to accomplish this? thanks patrick

  • How do I get Composer to download the latest commit in the master branch from GitHub for a package?

    I am trying to get Composer do download the latest commit for the Behat/MinkSelenium2Driver package. That particular repo only has a master branch. I have tried every method I can think of, including deleting the files and letting it pull them back in, to get it to work but it doesn't. How would I get it to pull in latest committed files or at least those from the commit I list below? Specifically I want to get this commit: https://github.com/Behat/MinkSelenium2Driver/commit/2e73d8134ec8526b6e742f05c146fec2d5e1b8d6 Thanks, Patrick

  • Oracle's Primavera P6 Analytics Now Available!

    Oracle's Primavera product team has announced this week that general availability of our first Oracle BI (OBI) based analytical product with pre-built business intelligence dashboards, reports and KPIs built in. P6 Analytics uses OBI's drill-down capabilities, summarizations, hierarchies and other BI features to provide knowledge to your business users to make the best decisions on portfolios, projects, schedules & resources with deep insights. Without needing to launch into the P6 tool, your executives, PMO, project sponsors, etc. can view up to date project performance information as well as historic trends of project performance. Using web-based portal technology, P6 Analytics makes it easy to manage by exception and then drill down to quickly identify root cause analysis of problem projects. At the same time, a brand new version of the P6 Reporting Database R2 was just announded and is also now available. This updated reporting database provides you with 4 star schemas with spread data and includes P6 activity, project and resource codes. You can use the data warehouse and ETL functions of the P6 Reporting Database R2 with your own reporting tools or build dashboards that utilize the hierarchies & drill down to the day-level on scheduled activities using Busines Objects, Cognos, Microsoft, etc. Both of these products can be downloaded from E-Delivery under the Primavera applications section in the P6 EPPM v7.0 media pack.   • Convert a Row to a Column in Excel the Easy Way

    Sometimes we’ve entered data in a column in Excel, only to realize later that it would be better to have this data in a row, or vise-versa.  Here’s a simple trick to convert any row or set of rows into a column, or vise-versa, in Excel. Please Note: This is tested in Excel 2003, 2007, and 2010.  Here we took screenshots from Excel 2010 x64, but it works the same on the other versions. Convert a Row to a Column Here’s our data in Excel: We want to change these two columns into rows.  Select all the cells you wish to convert, right-click, and select copy (or simply press Ctrl+C): Now, right-click in the cell where you want to put the data in rows, and select “Paste Special…”   Check the box at the bottom that says “Transpose”, and then click OK. Now your data that was in columns is in rows! This works the exact same for converting rows into columns.  Here’s some data in rows:   After copying and pasting special with Transpose selected, here’s the data in columns! This is a great way to get your data organized just like you want in Excel.     OK, so admittedly, this is already a TIRED and HACKNEYED term, but it applies here, so please endure the following. If you would like it in green, then yes, "We have an app for that!" In the soon-to-be-introduced next release of Oracle CRM On Demand, organizations gain unprecedented flexibility in their ability to optimize the look and feel of the Oracle CRM On Demand user interface. So if you want it in green, you can have it in green. And on this topic, I must say...our product development team seems to be taking unabashed pleasure in displaying this new color flexibility. Their demos are increasingly displaying a color palette that would make Martha Stewart hurl. And when I offer any feedback in my typically "direct" manner, they respond with, "Well Diamond, we can't show red or blue now, can we? It would just look like...everything else!" Yeah....but....but...I'm wearing a white shirt today, just like the white shirt I wore yesterday. And my wife has a fondness for "Shabby Chic," which is an interior design style deploying mostly white backdrops. Therefore, I guess I'm not the best one to critique. In all seriousness, although we'll be profiling far meatier features in the next release of Oracle CRM On Demand, this is important for organizations that want to match the look and feel of their CRM application to their corporate branding standards. Here we take a look at updating a Zune HD. Note: In this example we’re updating a Zune HD out of the box which hasn’t been updated yet. The first thing you’ll need to do if you haven’t already is download and install the latest Zune software (link below). Now plug your Zune into your computer with the included USB connection cable and give it a moment to be recognized. Next launch the Zune Desktop software and you should get the following screen. Just accept the EULA… Then the update kicks off. Make sure not to disconnect the Zune while the update takes place. The update will take a few minutes, and after it’s complete you should be good to go and can start using your Zune. To update your player in the future, go to General Settings then Player Update. Just like your computer’s hardware and software, you want to keep your other geeky gadgets updated as well. This will help the device run more smoothly, and sometimes add additional functionality.   • Installation experiences with NDepend under Win7/64 with restricted user permissions

    Today Patrick gives me a new license for his static code analysis tool NDepend for my fresh machine with Win7/64. This platform is new for me, so some things are different to Win XP. Maybe that till yet some of these things are not well enough understandanded from me. So i stepped in some traps. Here are my notes to get NDepend running. Download of NDepend Professional Edition from http://www.ndepend.com/NDependDownload.aspx   Extracted to c:\program files (x86)\NDepend   Started NDepend.Install.VisualStudioAddin.exe this failed with Okay – sounds plausible.   Copy NDependProLicense.xml to this folder   Next try with NDepend.Install.VisualStudioAddin.exe opens the integration dialog   Registering in Visual Studio failed with   Manually unblock as described (first solution hint)   and here comes my largest understanding problem. After unblocking this file   and closing this dialog the next opening shows the blocking again: Why? So the same error during integration pops up.   Okay – tried the second solution hint with copying folders Copy all to a full accessable folder under c:\temp\   Now the installation works   looks good   copying the folders back to c:\program files (x86)\NDepend   starting Visual Studio failed with     Okay – copying the folder to a private application folder c:\users\apf\My Applications\NDepend   Installing again   Now Visual Studio runs and NDepend is integrated Nevertheless my machine is only used by me, i prefer “all user”-installations. The described way works sadly only for my account.

  • Microsoft ADO.NET 4 Step by Step

    Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). Many years ago, I wrote Pro ADO.NET 2.0. I still think that in the plethora of new data access technologies that have come out since, the basic core ADO.NET fundamentals are still every developer must know, and sadly they do not know. So for some crazy reason, I still see every project make the same data access related mistakes over and over again. Anyway, the challenge is that on top of the core ADO.NET fundamentals, there is a vast array of other new technologies you must learn. The important of which is Entity Framework. So, I was asked to, and I was pleased to be the technical reviewer for Microsoft ADO.NET 4, Step by Step, by Tim Patrick. This book introduces the reader not just to the basic ADO.NET principles, but also Entity Framework, LINQ to SQL, and WCF Data Services. So what you may ask is a SharePoint guy like me doing with such interest in ADO.NET land? Well, that’s what the other side says, what is a hardcore data access sorta guy doing in SharePoint land? :). I have authored/co-authored 4 books so far on data access (1,2,3,4), and one on pure SharePoint, and now one on SharePoint 2010 BI. These are very intertwined topics. And LINQ to SQL and LINQ to SharePoint are almost copy paste of each other. WCF Data services are literally the same in both. And many Entity Framework concepts also apply within SharePoint. The 10th Award party will be the best :-) I won a DSLR camera at the 2011 JCP party and have taken many awesome photos of my family with it ever since!  Thanks JCP! Remembering the password to get in! It was very fascinating talking to all those JUG Members of last years' (2011) party and hearing about their hopes & expectations.  Especially from members of SouJava and LJC. Hanging out with my friends Best food and one of my colleagues won the raffle prize. My friend Brian won a jacket 3 years ago and my friend Craig won a camera last year. 2010 when I took home 2 awards on behalf of JSRs I'm on. When Patrick & Scott sang 'Light My Fire'! Catch up with friends! Being able to attend my first JCP party and and joining JCP community. Of course it's when some people won the award (SouJava and LJC)!   Meeting Crazy Bob! This is my first.   • Open a document from library Word opened but the contents is not loaded

    [Environment] Server Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 Client Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0 Microsoft Office 2003 Hello~ Today I received a call from one of my client and she said that she received an alert, "Ambiguous name detected: tempDDE" when attemping to open a doc from library. So I googled some and found solutions from MS and others and modified from Normal.dot to Normal1.dot. But after that, when I opened it again from library another problem happend and it is the doc contents is not loaded. When I click the link of doc, then the WIN?WORD.exe pops up but the contents of the document is not showing up (Silent). I tried some Open the doc file using Word Open Menu (Library Link) = Worked Get the url of the file and open it uing using Word Open Menu = Worked Add the url to Trusted Site = Done but not helped Any advices are welcomed. What I have is the following: (defn get-price "Same as print-book but handling multiple authors on a single book" [ {:keys [title authors price]} ] price) Then I: (reduce + (map get-price best-sellers)) Is there a way of doing this without mapping the "get-price" function over the vector? Or is there an idiomatic way of approaching this problem?

    This is part rant part question. The rant is: I am so confused with Google Wallet/Checkout/InApp/Store/blah blah blah.. And, I find it incredibly difficult to not only login but to navigate my way around. Logging in is a quest in itself, I often find myself logging into Google Wallet, but I need the Sell/Merchant site usually. Enough Rant Can someone please tell me how to find my PostBack Url setting for an InApp Google Wallet purchase verification? Right now I'm logged into wallet.google.com/merchant and I swear this setting is no where to be found. I'm looking for this equivelant: https://sandbox.google.com/checkout/inapp/merchant/settings.html Thanks, Karl..

    Hi! I'm new to Qlikview and looking for some answers regarding scripting. How can I create Qlickview joins that just join on a specific column (and not all that are having a matching name)? Let's say that I'm having the following tables: Employee Id | Person | DepartmentID | Flags 1000 , Bob , 2001 , 1000000 1001 , Sue , 2002 , 1100000 Department Id | Name | Flags 2001 , HR , 01101111 2001 , R&D , 1100000 What is the best way of joining those tables on the DepartmentID <- ID field? The data is provided by SQL selects. I'm thinking of writing SQL views using unique names would be one idea, but there must be a simpler way. Please advice Kind regards, Karl

  • Microsoft Templates included in jQuery 1.5!

    When I joined the ASP.NET team as the Program Manager for Ajax, the ASP.NET team was working on releasing a new version of the Microsoft Ajax Library. This new version of the Microsoft Ajax Library had several really innovative and unique features such as support for client templates, client data-binding, script dependency management, and globalization. However, we kept hearing the message that our customers wanted to use jQuery when building ASP.NET applications. Therefore, about ten months ago, we decided to pursue a risky strategy. Scott Guthrie sent me to Cambridge to meet with John Resig – the creator of jQuery and leader of the jQuery project – to find out whether Microsoft and jQuery could work together. We wanted to find out whether the jQuery project would be open to allowing Microsoft to contribute the innovative features that we were developing for the Microsoft Ajax Library -- such as client templates and client data-binding -- to the jQuery library. Fortunately, the Cambridge meeting with Resig went well. John Resig was very open to accepting contributions to the jQuery library. Over the next few months, we worked out a process for Microsoft to contribute new features to the open-source jQuery project. Resig and Guthrie appeared on stage at the MIX10 conference to announce that Microsoft would be contributing features to jQuery. It has been a long journey, but I am happy to report success. Today, Microsoft and the jQuery project have announced that three plugins developed by developers on the ASP.NET team – the jQuery Templates, jQuery Data Link, and jQuery Globalization plugins – have been accepted as official jQuery plugins. In addition, the jQuery Templates plugin will be integrated into jQuery 1.5 which is the next major release of jQuery.
