    Hi, I have this beautiful & old laptop and would like to replace hard drive. I've purchased samsung 120GB hard drive and exchange hard drives. When I turn on computer my laptop doesn't recognize hard drive at all. It doesn't find nothing under master drive. What am I doing wrong, and is it possible to make this upgrade? Thanks

    I just got an Asus G60 laptop, and will be installing an SSD as the primary, and will use the existing HDD as a storage drive. Is there a utility that I can use to turn off/disconnect the storage drive when I'm not using it? Mainly, I want to be able to conserve power when I'm mobile, since the battery life of this laptop is pretty weak. Thanks in advance!

  • Can you disable the light up buttons on the HP HDX series laptops?

    Im intrested in buying a laptop from the HP HDX series, but I have one concern. As you can see below, they have touch sensitive buttons above the keyboard which are lit up. I cant help but think how distracting they would be if you were watching a film on it. So does anyone know if its possible to turn these lights off?     I sometimes gets an ip address of 169.254.111.111 received for my laptop (instead of one in the 10.0.0.x range). I thought it was a problem with my Ubuntu system, but after I dual-booted I got the same problem under Windows Vista with the same laptop. What's the problem, why does it happens only sometimes, and how can it be solved? For the record: I'm using a Linksys WRT610N wireless router.

I want my next laptop to be RAID but with SSD + 500GB drive Unfortunately Sony's current line seems to have abandoned two disk configuations and I really don't want to go to a slower system than I have now.     For the past two days, whenever I plug in my USB mouse (which has been working for a long time, previously) into the laptop, my computer restarts! I tried changing mice, but the same thing happens. I have 3 ports, usually, I try one port and the laser does not come on, then I try another one and the laser comes and and off, then I again take out and put it in any port and the damn thing just turns off the computer.     My Sony Vaio laptop has a built-in program called "Sony Battery Care" which provides a functionality to hold battery at certain levels of charge while operating. For example, I've set it to 50% and the battery is always kept at that level while on AC power. This mode prevents battery degradation and is more effective as I usually use my laptop with AC power. I'm looking for a similar program to use with other laptops with Windows OS; preferably a free one.

  • Boot win7 from laptop after booting win 8 to go from usb

    Just successfully installed and ran windows 8 to go on an external usb hdd. After shutdown and removing the usb hard disk, tried to start my laptop which has a single windows 7 system, but failed to boot and even repair trials didn't succeed. It seems that win 8 affected the strucure of the laptop hard drive which results in corruption in its main win 7 partition. How to fix that and avoid future problems of the same type? thanks.

    Well I've been trying quite a lot of things, it worked to connect through my other laptop which is not given by my school so there's nothing wrong with the homegroup itself. But I need a way to connect this "domain owned laptop" into my homegroup. It has IPv6 working, all the services are started and I've also deleted idstore.sst without success. Here is for what: Sometimes I want URL that I see on my desktop/laptop computer to enter into laptop's/smartphone's browser but unless I save that URL to .TXT file, email URL or save to Evernote there is no other way to directly do that.     Issue Pictured overhead projector setup does not work. #1 - #2 - #3 - Phone. All cables are tested and work! The issue is the HDMI connection between cable #2 and #3. With all other cables, the screen will automatically be displayed onto the projector screen. No extra work needed. With the pictured setup, the smartphone screen is not displayed onto the projector screen. What is the issue with the HDMI connection?? Background We recently had to do presentations at work (school), but the administration only provided VGA means of hooking up to it. Mostly likely reason probably dealt with cost. Anyways, there are several teachers that have brand new Samsung Series 9 ultrabooks (or similar). You know, the ones without VGA support. So I bought an adapter for those ultrabooks. Cable #5 in the picture below. However, both my coworker and I have been wanting to just display our phone screens on the projector. This I knew would require some extra work.   • Nvidia GTS 360M in Asus laptop shuts off when gaming on external display

    I have had this problem on my Asus G51j Intel I5, Nvidia GTS360M graphics card. Just updated the drivers to latest off Nvidias site. Most games I play, If I hook it up through an external monitor(this happens whether it's HDMI or VGA). The laptop hard shuts down after about 20 minutes, give or take. This tends to happen on more graphically intense games like Call of dutys, bioshock. I'm running Windows 7, latest nvidia drivers. Games work fine on my laptops screen, and Movies, general computing work fine on the external displays. The laptop always sits on a cooling pad and the latest time was in front of my AC unit, I ran heatfan or whatever the heat tracking software was, and my temperatures were normal through a shut down. This has been happening for the life of the laptop. I dont play very many games, and even fewer on an external monitor, so this issue doesnt come up much Is it possible I have a faulty graphics card? Is there anything else I can try?

  • Laptop will not boot

    This is a dell studio 1558 laptop. Now, something is wrong with the charger that it won't charge the laptop, but the laptop can turn on and operate properly as long as it is attached. It has been like this for a while, but it's not the problem. My problem is that as of yesterday, It takes several minutes to get past the "dell" startup logo (where is says "f2 setup" and "f12 boot options"). After it gets past, it beeps as normal to tell me about the charger and gives me the f2/f12 options and f1 to continue as normal. I can press f12 to get into boot options and load into my live USB BackTrack 5 ISO, but after "startx" it just stays at a black screen. I can also access BIOS setup, but see nothing that would help the problem. When I boot to the HDD, it gives me this Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083) Realktek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series V.2.29 (06/30/09) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM Operating System not found Also, pressing f8 gives me the same results as booting as normal. It is running Windows 7 Ultimate, dual-core Intel i3 @ 2.27ghz and 4gb RAM. I think there is an issue with the HDD, as the "Operating System not found" would lead me to believe. Is this a fixable problem?

  • graphics performance better on battery?

    Anyone have any idea why my laptop would perform (considerably) better while on battery than while plugged in? It's a Dell Latitude E6420 with Windows 8 Pro. I tried mirroring all the settings in the selected power plan from "On battery" to "Plugged In" and that didn't help. I then just restored the defaults for all power plans (balanced and high performance). I'm still seeing the same results. The best example where it is most noticeable (don't laugh) is Sim City Social in Chrome. I'm probably seeing a performance increase of 5x on battery versus plugged in. This is easily reproducible too. I'm very confused. Could it be caused by dust? The laptop isn't that old and there is no visible dust. I'm not going to take it apart to check the insides as it's a corporate laptop. Could it be overheating?   • Laptop Acer Travelmate 4050 takes over 10 Mins to POST

    Hi, I am a computer tech and have received a laptop for repair. I noticed when I turned it on the laptop would not do anything for a min or two (the fan would run up and stop, power led would shine and some cd rom activity then stop). It would sit there with a black screen. Suddenly after a random number of minutes (between 1-20mins!) the Acer BIOS screen would display and POST would happen before booting into Windows XP. It has frozen in XP at various times and pointed towards a CPU fault and over heating. The fan was on its last legs, sounded like a car engine, so I replaced this. Still same issues. I next replaced the CPU like for like. Same problems. Also applied new thermal paste between the cpu and heatsink, when running the fan kicks in occasionally (not as often as I thought it would) and I left it playing mp3, online radio and updating to service pack 3 and it wouldnt freeze. shutting down ok, cold start, not ok. Waits again before showing the BIOS screen. The hard disk was also making a screaming noise (SMART test and chkdsk passed) but I also replaced this. The laptop powers up with and without the battery so dont think its a battery issue. Running out of ideas and wondered if anyone had any advice. Thanks

  • Cannot find wireless driver for HP laptop

    I have an HP laptop (model: dv7-1267cl, Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium) and I cannot find the wireless driver for the laptop. I am need of a different version because my wireless connection under Windows is flaky and unreliable. I have problems printing to my wireless printer and logging in to and using several sites like reddit.com, phoenix.edu and facebook.com - I get several "page cannot be displayed" messages while using my wireless connection. I disable my wireless adapter and use an ethernet cable and it all works fine. I also used an Ubuntu Live CD to confirm that there is not a problem with the hardware. This is software/driver issue. The drivers were auto installed by the OS. The Device Manager shows the wireless adapter as Atheros AR5009 802.11 a/g/n WiFi Adapter. I have checked the HP website for my laptop and they do not have wireless drivers listed for that model wireless adapter. I have also checked with atheros.com and I do not see my model adapter on their list of available hardware. Device Manager lists the Hardware ID's for my adapter as: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C&REV_01 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&SUBSYS_1381103C PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_028000 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002A&CC_0280 A search for the first Hardware ID turned up this question from experts-exchange.com. tl;dr A driver does not exist for that model adapter.
