• Sometimes tabs in notepad++ won't make a new window when dragged out

  Long-time Linux user on a Windows 7 machine, using Notepad++ to edit multiple text files. Sometimes I can drag a tab out of the notepad++ window onto the desktop to get a new notepad++ window. This is a very nice feature. But sometimes when I try to drag a tab out, nothing happens. I don't see what is different about these tabs or the files they contain. It is repeatable; the same tab still won't make a new window. I'm not familiar enough with Windows and its strange ways to begin to guess what is going on, unless it's a bug. How can I make all tabs draggable-to-new-windowable, no exceptions?

  This site is very cool, and i often get many answers in it :) But today, I've a question for you. My Problem is: - I want to use a virtual desktop or resolution expander for windows 7 - I want to multiply per 2 a window resolution (i.e. seeing only 25% of one window on a screen) I tried simple tricks that didn't work for me, and installed a virtual desktop (Dexspot, a great one), but I can't manage to strech a window (Google chrome) over the 4 desktops simultaneously. • Find and raise a window in KDE4 with shortcut

  Hi all! I was wondering about a possibility to find and raise some window in KDE4 with shortcut. Currently in KDE 4.4 there is a possibility to switch to window from krunner (Alt-F2). Say, I have an open konsole widow somewhere and to switch to it, I can Alt-F2, write konsole and choose konsole window I need from the list. This is great, but too much typing. I would like to have a keyboard shortcut to do the same. Maybe some DBUS magic can do that? Any ideas? Thaks! Andre

• Clicking on Dock icon does not bring window on top (OS X Lion)

  I am using OS X Lion and I have a very annoying problem with windows not showing up when I click on Dock icons. It happens when I have some windows opened in one space but I am viewing another space at the moment. For example, I have Mail and Skype on space #2 but I am on space #1. Note that all windows are not minimized. I want to quickly switch to Mail. So I click on Mail icon in Dock, it switches the space to #2, menubar shows that active window is Mail but Mail window is actually below Skype window. The strangest thing is that sometimes it works as expected showing the Mail on top. I can't see any logic here, it's absolutely unpredictable, thus annoying. Does anyone experienced such problems? I wonder if it's a bug or correct behaviour. Is there any way to fix that?

• Changing size of window when testing Adobe AIR mobile applications

  Im making a mobile phone Android application in Flash CS 5.5. I set the width/height of the stage to 480/800 px. When I hit CTRL+ENTER to test run the application I get a window that is 480/800 px. It cannot be resized. I want to change the size of that window WITHOUT changing the stage width/height. For example if I run the APK on a mobile phone with a 1000x1000 display the flash will scale automatically to fit the 480/800 stage to the 1000x1000 screen. So it should be possible to change the window size to 1000x1000 without having to change the stage width/height. But how?

  Previous used Ubuntu Gnome with Compiz but for my basic spec intel macbook (4 years old) its a little too heavyweight. So for now Im back on my macbook with os x, but now considering going back to Linux. Im looking for a window manager that has the following properties: 1) Supports virtual desktop (need 4 minimum) 2) Works well with multi monitors - can move an app with shortcut from one monitor to the other (on same virtual desktop) 3) Can remember window position (i.e. open vim on 2 monitor) - however must coerce everything back to first window when 2nd screen is unplugged 4) Keyboard shortcut friendly 5) Not too hard to install 6) Works well with minimum hardware such as integrated graphics Please suggest and share your experiences

How can I right the bad window? Sometimes in Google Chrome I encounter similar rogue windows. I tame them by right-clicking and choosing 'show as tab'. • Win XP shut down window very slow to appear

  Hi all, I click Start-Shut Down and the Shut Down window takes 5 minutes to appear. This problem doesn't happen after a fresh boot, it only happens after I have been logged on for awhile. I am using a MacBookPro with Bootcamp. The machine actually shuts down quickly, its just really slow to bring up the shut down window. Basically I would like to know if: 1) Anyone has any ideas why this would happen 2) Who owns the "Shut Down" window (i.e. what happens on the OS after I click the Shut Down icon in the start menu) I've tried perusing the task manager to try and see if any processes look suspicious, but to no avail. thanks, H

  I'm preparing a script for Docker, which allows only one top-level process, which should receive the signals so we can stop it. Therefore, I'm having a script like this: one application writes to syslog (bash script in this sample), and the other one just prints it. #! /usr/bin/env bash set -eu tail -f /var/log/syslog & exec bash -c 'while true ; do logger aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ; sleep 1 ; done' Almost solved: when the top-level process bash gets SIGTERM -- it exists, but tail -f continues to run. How do I instruct tail -f to exit when the parent process exits? E.g. it should also get the signal. Note: Can't use bash traps since exec on the last line replaces the process completely.

  I'm using Xubuntu 12.04 and I can move windows by pressing Alt and then dragging a window. I have window snapping enabled via xfce4-settings-manager (Window Manager / Advanced tab / Snap windows to screen border). I like the snapping feature in general, however sometimes it gets in the way. Is there a way to temporarily disable snapping while doing this? Obviously I can open the settings manager, disable, move, enable, but I'm looking for a less intrusive solution, especially if there's something built in already (e.g. pressing Shift in addition to Alt to disable snapping or something along these lines) or a plugin of some sorts.

• Splitting up/merging windows in WPF

  I'm new to WPF but I need to implement following functionality: I have a window that contains one Grid (might be changed to stack panel or something else). In that Grid I have 2 columns, each of them contains another Grid. Lets call them gridFirst and gridSecond. There is also GridSplitter in first column allowing to resize the columns. I want to provide a button that will allow to separate gridFirst from this window and display it "as it is" in another window. How do I do that? It would be nice if the new window had a same menu as the original window without me having to copy-paste (that not a good coding practise) all its code to the new window. Thanks for answers

  I'm transforming objects in 3D space by transforming each vector with the object's 4x4 transform matrix. In order to achieve hierarchical transform, I transform the child by its own matrix, and then the child by the parent matrix. This becomes costly because objects deeper in the display tree have to be transformed by all the parent objects. This is what's happening, in summary: Root -- transform its verts by Root matrix Parent -- transform its verts by Parent, Root matrix Child -- transform its verts by Child, Parent, Root matrix Is there a faster way to transform vertices to achieve hierarchical transform? What If I first concatenated each transform matrix with the parent matrices, and then transform verts by that final resulting matrix, would that work and wouldn't that be faster? • Wordpress displays posts of category ID

  Can't seem to find the right answer for what I thought would be trivial. I have some categories arranged like this... Parent Category 1 - Child Category 1 - Child Category 2 - Child Category 3 ...and I have some posts that are in Child Category 2. I want my page to display all posts from the category I am currently in. • Windows Forms: Unable to Click to Focus a MaskedTextBox in a Non TopLevel Form

  Like the title says, I've got a Child form being shown with it's TopLevel property set to False and I am unable to click a MaskedTextBox control that it contains (in order to bring focus to it). I can bring focus to it by using TAB on the keyboard though. The child form contains other regular TextBox controls and these I can click to focus with no problems, although they also exhibit some odd behavior: for example if I've got a value in the Textbox and I try to drag-click from the end of the string to the beginning, nothing happens. In fact I can't use my mouse to move the cursor inside the TextBox's text at all (although they keyboard arrow keys work). I'm not too worried about the odd TextBox behavior, but why can't I activate my MaskedTextBox by clicking on it? • Hiding Opetions of a Selection with JQuery

  Okay, let's start with an example. <select id = "selection1">     <option value = "1" id = "1">Number 1</option>     <option value = "2" id = "2">Number 2</option>     <option value = "3" id = "3">Number 3</option> </select> Now from here, we have a dropdown with 3 options. What I want to do now is to hide an option. Adding style = "display:none" will not help. The option would not appear in the dropdownlist, but using the arrow keys, you can still select it. Essentially, it does exactly what the code says. It isn't displayed, and it stops there. A JQuery function of $("1").hide() will not work. Plus, I don't only want to hide the option, I want to completely remove it. Any possibility on doing so? Do I have to use parent/sibling/child elements? If so, I'm still not sure how. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  Hello I have few monhts working with aspx, and now I'm developing a shopping cart website. For the employee to upload the products on the DB, every product needs to be linked to a category and sub category, and sub-sub category, and so on. Sometimes the sub-sub categories are up to 5. For example Electronics-TV-LCD-Samsung-40 inches. First, What I would like to identify is if the SQL table has the apporpiate structure. I have 3 columns Id, Description, Parent_Id. Categories with Parent Id=0 is used for the top ones. Is this the best way to do it? Then I want to use the ListBox control to select main Categories, and once it is selected, filled a second listbox with its childs and so on. Do I need to query SQL DB everytime the change event happens? I heard about linq but have not used yet, What would be your suggestion to do this. If you have seen a sample to understand it better will be appreciated. Thank you

Now I have a problem that I done four joins of child table to parent table because I need to get these four fields. Some optimization is for sure possible. I would like to be able to modify this query in easy way when I add new field (key,value). What is the best way to do this? To create some StoreProcedure? I would like to have strongly types in my DB layer (C#) and using LINQ (when programming) so it means when I add some new Key, Value pair in Profile table I would like to do minimal modifications in DB and C# if possible. Actually I am trying to get some best practices in this case.

• JQuery Delegate and using traveral options in function

  I am having trouble figuring out how to use the JQuery delegate function to do what I require. Basically, I need to allow users to add Panels (i.e. divs) to a form dynamically by selecting a button. Then when a user clicks a button within a given Panel, I want to be able to to something to that Panel (like change the color in this example). Unfortunately, it seems that references to the JQuery traversing functions don't work in this instance. Can anybody explain how to achieve this effect? • Giving a child window focus in IE8

  I'm trying to launch a popup window from a Javascript function and ensure it has focus using the following call: window.open(popupUrl, popupName, "...").focus(); It works in every other browser, but IE8 leaves the new window in the background with the flashing orange taskbar notification. Apparently this is a feature of IE8: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms536425%28VS.85%29.aspx It says that I should be able to focus the window by making a focus() call originating from the new page, but that doesn't seem to work either. I've tried inserting window.focus() in script tags in the page and the body's onload but it has no effect. Is there something I'm missing about making a focus() call as the page loads, or another way to launch a popup that IE8 won't hide?

• Facebox window closes after submit

  Hi all I have a question regarding Facebox. When I click a certain link on my page, the Facebox modal window opens just fine. But inside this modal window I'd like to have a form that users can submit. When the users click the submit-button, the whole page refreshes, and my Facebox-window is closed. This makes sense to me, but I'd like it to work differently. I want to give the user a confirmation, inside of the modal window, after they have submitted the form. So when a user clicks the submit-button, a confirmation should be showed inside og the modal-window. Anybody know if this is possible? • Binding elements when modal window loads from AJAX (jQuery)

  I'd like to set up a drag'n'drop list inside a modal window. The window's content is loaded via an AJAX call, so I believe I need to use jQuery's .live() method. Here is my current code: $('#cboxLoadedContent').live('load', function() { // Event for sortable page lists $('ul#pageList').sortable(); }); How can I set up bindings when the modal window loads? The modal window comes from the colorbox plugin. Note: I'm guessing that 'load' is not the right event to use, because if I throw a simple alert() in there, it doesn't even show up when the window loads.
