• Can't mount Linux usd disk. It just create /dev/sg device but no /dev/sd

  I have a Corsair R60 ssd disk which is a disk with both sata and usb connectors. But the usb thing seems to be a bit non-standard, or maybe its just my fedora linux. When I insert the disk using a usb cabel to a running Fedora 14 linux system, a device called /dev/sg3 is added but that is all. No new /dev/sd* device is created so I can't mount the disk. If I look at cat /proc/scsi/sg/device_strs I get ATA Hitachi HTS54321 FB2O HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N RP05 Seagate Desktop 0130 Corsair CSSD-R60GB2 So the disk is there. (The last entry) but my linux will for some reason not see it as a usb hard disk. When I insert other usb disks they work fine. It is only this specific disk which causes problems. I have tried on 3 different computers with the same result. A hint to the problem may be that if I add the disk to a windows system(With usb) the disk is called "A fixed disk" and not a portable disk as expected. The disk works fine with linux If i connect it with the sata cabel, but I would really like to have it working with usb too. (To mount it on computers without sata).

• Why does my program crash after running this particular function?

• Object Oriented Programming Problem

  I'm designing a little CMS using PHP whilst putting OOP into practice. I've hit a problem though. I have a page class, whos constructor accepts a UID and a slug. This is then used to set the properties (unless the page don't exist in which case it would fail). Anyway, I wanted to implement a function to create a page, and I thought ... what's the best way to do this without overloading the constructor. What would the correct way, or more conventional method, of doing this be? • How to create a clip region from a path that includes the 'outline'?

  I am creating a rounded rectangle GraphicsPath (see red outline image below), and then using this as a clip region both when drawing graphics, and as the Region of a Form. Unfortunately, although the path looks good, it doesn't work well as a region (see solid black image below) Is there a way that I can generate a clipping region from the path that includes all the 'outline' pixels of the path? Do I need to generate a bitmap and then process this to create a region?   Hi guys, I'm using RUBY 's regular expression to deal with text such as ${1:aaa|bbbb} ${233:aaa | bbbb | ccc ccccc } ${34: aaa | bbbb | cccccccc |d} ${343: aaa | bbbb | cccccccc |dddddd ddddddddd} ${3443:a aa|bbbb|cccccccc|d} ${353:aa a| b b b b | c c c c c c c c | dddddd} I want to get the trimed text between each pipe line. For example, for the first line of my upper example, I want to get the result aaa and bbbb, for the second line, I want aaa, bbbb and ccc ccccc. Now I have wrote a piece of regular expression and a piece of ruby code to test it: array = "${33:aaa|bbbb|cccccccc}".scan(/\$\{\s*(\d+)\s*:(\s*[^\|]+\s*)(?:\|(\s*[^\|]+\s*))+\}/) puts array Now my problem is the (?:\|(\s*[^\|]+\s*))+ part can't create multiple groups.   I have Angle class that I want initialized to a random value. The Angle constructor can accept an int from a random() function. Is it safe to place this call in the ctor list: foo::foo() : Angle(random(0xFFFF)) {...} or do I have to do it in the body of the constructor? foo::foo() { Angle = Angle(random(0xFFFF)); ...} If it matters, the foo class is derived from another class and does have virtual methods. In addition, no exception handling is allowed in our app.

• GAE uploading to database - or - how to create big dictionary in GAE?

  Hi, I have a GAE application. A new request is to have a huge database to store many items for some functionality. The database needs to populated every week or so - and populating it is done by querying many external links which overall takes around 1-2 hours. So, doing it via GAE Cron is now out of the question. Another option I was thinking was to create it in external server and then uploading it to GAE DB. Is it possible to upload the data created externally to GAE DB straightaway? The question is because there will be close to 10 M items in it, so adding items individually to a DB is not going to work due to 30 second time limit. Thanks K

  I have a Windows server with folders accessible via SFTP (server is running OpenSSH). scp is blocked. I would like to copy files from a Linux server to the Windows server. SFTP seems like a good option. Ideally I'd like something similar to an FTP drop box, so that the Linux box could just copy files directly over to the Windows box. I'm also open to any solutions to this that would allow me to copy the files while offering the least amount of hassle. The language I'd be using on the Linux box is python; not sure if that factors in or not.

Now my problem: sometimes this solution works, sometimes does not.   I'm looking into using auto scaling groups for a tier of webservers that would be fronted by an ELB. One of the things I'm having a hard time with is how to give each new instance the proper DNS name. For example, I'd like webservers to have names like frontend-web-XXX.prod.example.com so their names would appear correct in logs and just ease of organization. I have two other tiers I'd ultimately like to make autoscaled and I'd like them to have names like api-web-XXX.prod.example.com as well. I have some experience with cloudformation templates and have spun up individual instances with associated Route53 records but I don't see any indication of how this can be done within an autoscaled group.

I can make an AMI from my image no problem. But I can't seen to get new instances to generate their own passwords.. The results are that I have a new instance that works great with my password. • How can I create a simple Exchange 2010 backup solution?

  I'm sure this question's been asked a dozen times in one form or another, however after much searching, there doesn't appear to be an obvious simple recovery solution for a single Exchange box. We're using Exchange 2010 on a single server, the server hosts the AD and nothing else on the network uses the AD. The intent is to run this server as you would an externally hosted Exchange server - access only via HTTP (RPC mode or OWA) - all other ports blocked. I've a daily backup running, using Windows Server 2008 volume shadow service to backup the Exchange data to an external hard disk. My question is, how do I perform a bare metal recovery of this server? 1) Do I need to be explicitly including the active directory information in this nightly backup, or will it be there by virtue of the fact that this system is the primary AD server and the Windows backup service knows this? 2) I understand I can re-install Server 2008 onto my new hardware (in the case of hardware failure) and then run Exchange 2010 setup.exe with a /recover argument, referencing the backup volume. 3) It is acceptable to have some downtime during this recovery process. But is there anything else I should be aware of? Thanks! Duncan

• Code is exectuting but the view is not loading when called form a function?

  I have a viewBased application with the viewController class mainView. In it I am loading various views(different nibs) depending upon certain actions that I do. I have added a popoverController with a barbutton in the mainView. Its intialized with a tableviewController class named popClass. When I select certain row in the popover, I want the view in my mainView to load someother view(as I do when i do certain actions). For that I have written a function in mainView Controller class and is calling it from the popOver class. Function and the lines of code are executing but nothing is happening. Even the log lines are printed but no action takes place. What is the problem? OR is there anyother way to make the view change in mainView by using the popover?

  On Excel, I have a DDE formula on B1 which reads =server|info!someText.data I want to change the formula so that someText is written on A1 and then reference it on the DDE formula. Something like =server|info!A1.data. I have tried to concatenate "A1" directly on the formula, as it is above, with no success. Some other things I tried were =server|info!A1&".data" and =server|info!indirect(A1)&".data", but had no success. Is there a way to achieve this? How?
