  • How can I create a macro that acts on a relative reference rather than an absolute reference to cell A1?

    I have a master rent statement in an Excel 2007 (macro enabled) spreadsheet that shows all tenants in rows with columns formed by the months. Each tenant then has a separate rent statement sheet like the one below that pulls the data through from the master rent statement and all I do then is to copy the last 4 columns to the right and add them to the right, just renaming the month labelled as ‘rent due’ with the current month and then hiding the previous last 4 columns to the left so that the statement always shows the previous month's activity and the amount due for the current month: I used a macro to speed up the creation of these statements, but then found that in some cases the result was wrong and needed major correction because the macro use absolute references i.e. its starting position was relative to cell A1 whereas some of my rent worksheets commence from a different column and in some cases from a different column and a different row. I have tried recording the macro with 'Use relative references' but when trying to use the macro it only gets part way through its operation before it stops and the message appears: Run time error '1004' Application defined or object defined error with the option to End or Debug or go to Help and then I'm stuck as I don't know how to debug and work in VBA or understand what has gone wrong. I want to record a single macro that always remains relative to the last 'Total Due' column heading (in the sample, it’s cell FF3 but on another worksheet could be cell GA26) and thus enables me regardless of where on the worksheet the rent statement is placed to add through my recorded macro a further four columns with updated dates and a repositioned 'Total Due' summary (in the sample in cells FE23 and FF23). The contents of cells FE23 and FE22 are always the same number of rows from the 'Sample Rent Statement, Service Charge and Sub Total' rows. I've searched on the web and in the help files of Excel 2007 but have been totally stumped by this, so currently I have to re-record a quantity of macros each month to cover all of the permutations of the worksheets in my Excel rent workbook, which is starting to become pointless in terms of saving time. Does someone know a solution to this problem please?!

    I need advise to create a simple port-scanner, who will need to detect if some specific devices are connected to the network from theire IP/MAC address. I am working on windows 7 and can use preferably C++ Builder 2010 Embarcadero, or java or Qt. The library have to be under a public domain or equivalent, as my software is a proprietary software. What library would you advice? Do you know any free software that I could start from, or any examples? What about using Indy Sockets or Synapse TCP/IP Librarys? Thanks in advance.

    Hi folks, I'm looking for some method of converting a PHP Docblock (as used for generating documentation by tools like Doxygen) into a structure I can inspect in PHP.   • Tool to create unscaled call-out from a thumbnail image?

    I'm creating an online tutorial for some software and need to include screenshots. In particular, I want to highlight the position and appearance of a given control in a large screen. Given that I haven't got the space to show the screen at full resolution (at least, not alongside the tutorial text), I figured I would use a kind of call-out from a thumbnail. Here's my poor first effort, made in Paint.NET: Given how long this took me to craft, I'd really like to find a tool to speed things up (and make them look a little more professional!). Preferably a free one, too - or one that has a downloadable trial. The exact style it produces isn't that important, provided it achieves the desired effect. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Mal. P.S.     I have a template class that has a template member function that needs to be specialized, as in: template <typename T> class X { public: template <typename U> void Y() {} template <> void Y<int>() {} }; Altough VC handles this correctly, apperantly this isn't standard and GCC complains: explicit specialization in non-namespace scope 'class X<T>' I tried: template <typename T> class X { public: template <typename U> void Y() {} }; template <typename T> // Also tried `template<>` here void X<T>::Y<int>() {} But this causes both VC and GCC to complain. What's the right way to do this?

  • lua metatable __lt __le __eq forced boolean conversion of return value

    Overloading __eq, __lt, and __le in a metatable always converts the returning value to a boolean. Is there a way to access the actual return value?     Ok, this question might more about design theory. I have successfully created controls that show up in my toolbox, so I'm pretty sure I have the process right. Also, my "AutoToolboxPopulate" is set to true, so things are showing up as I create them. My question is this: I'm sub-classing a native Control for specialized use. When I derive my class from an exposed concrete class, such as BulletedList, my custom Control appears in my Toolbox. However, when I drop it back to the parent, such as ListControl, my Control is not listed (actually it's grayed out when I "List All"). What am I missing?

  • How to create a project from existing source in Eclipse and then find it?

    I have created several .class files. All of them are located in one directory. I used a text editor to write these class files. Now I want to switch to Eclipse. In Eclipse I click File-New-Java Project. Then I select "Create project from existing source". After that I select the directory where all my .class files and click OK. As a result, nothing visible happens. But when I try to do the same, Eclipse tells me that that this project already exist. Where does it exist and how can I access it? By the way, in my "workspace" file nothing new appeared. Is it OK? I though my new Java Project will be there.

    I am a beginner in Flash Actionscript 3.0 programming. I am trying to create smooth keyboard controls for player movement in a game. I'm currently using addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN) listening for a keyboard key press and then within the handler function moving a graphic by adding a number to its .x or .y property. This creates a slow, sluggish jerk at the beginning. I know there's a smoother, more responsive way to do this but have no idea where to begin. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Is there a way to create a copy-on-write copy of a directory?

    I'm thinking of a situation where I would have something that creates a copy of a directory, tweaks a few files, and then does some processing on the result. This wold be done fairly often, maybe a few dozen times a day. (The exact use case is testing patch submissions; dupe the code, patch it, build/test/report/etc.) What I'm looking for could be done by creating a new directory structure and populating it with hard links from the origonal. However this only works if all the tools you use delete and recreate files rather than edit them in place. Is there a way to have the file system do copy-on-write for a file? Note: I'm aware that many FSs use COW at a block level (all updates are done via writes to new blocks) but this is not what I want.

    It seems that when trying to install any package which requires the creation of a system User and Group, the installer fails with the error: install: invalid user 'username' When it happened the first time, I assumed it was related to the package, or it's installation script. But now I am attempting a different package, and alas, the same issue arises! note: /etc/passwd and /etc/group is not chattr -i Here is the example output from an attempted installation (of varnish): Selecting previously unselected package varnish. Unpacking varnish (from .../varnish_3.0.2-1ubuntu0.1_amd64.deb) ... Processing triggers for man-db ... Setting up libvarnishapi1 (3.0.2-1ubuntu0.1) ... Setting up varnish (3.0.2-1ubuntu0.1) ... install: invalid user `varnish' dpkg: error processing varnish (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Processing triggers for libc-bin ... ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Errors were encountered while processing: varnish note: running ubuntu 12.04 For now, I have resolved the issue by manually creating the users, and running apt-get install -f, but this does not resolve the actual issue. Any ideas?

    I've got a Visual C++/CLI app which uses beeps to signify good and bad results (used when the user can't see the screen). Currently I use low pitched beeps for bad results and high pitched beeps for good results: if( goodResult == true ) { Beep(1000, 40); } else { Beep(2000, 20); } This works okay on my Vista laptop, but I've tried it on other laptops and some seem to play the sounds for less time (they sound more like clicks than beeps) or the sound doesn't play at all. But I notice that there's a small delay after I've clicked a link and before the content is actually loaded. It's not very intense content that's loaded either so I think it's got something to do with the order which things happen in the script.   • PHP mail() function stopped working on Windows 2008 R2 IIS 7.5. Why?

    PHP 5.3.13 and as noted IIS 7.5. PHP mail() was working fine until I did 3 things (at the same time). (a) added memory to the server taking it from 4gb to 5gb; (b) ran Windows Update and applied all available updates; (c) removed SQL server installation. Windows 2008 R2 SMTP server still works fine. I know this because I can drop a file in the pickup folder and the mail is delivered. This PHP test script: <?php $to='my_name@another_domain.com'; $subject='Test email using PHP'; $message='This is a test email message'. "\r\n"; $headers='From:[email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'Reply-To:[email protected]' . "\r\n" . 'X-Mailer: PHP/' . phpversion(); mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers, '[email protected]'); ?> creates this entry in the PHP log file: mail() on [C:\www\pgs.com\store\admin\test_php_mail.php:1]: To: my_name@another_domain.com -- Headers: From:[email protected] Reply-To:[email protected] X-Mailer: PHP/5.3.13 PHP's mail.log. When using PHP now, I never see a file dropping on the IIS pickup folder. And on other thing, when using previouly working features on the site (such as password recovery), there is no entry made in the mail.log. (The mail log has just been setup to help solve this problem.) How do I fix this? Or at least how do I diagnose the problem? Thanks.

    Hello! I have a few classes (heat, gas, contact, pressure) inheriting from a main one (sensor). I have a need to store them in a vector<Sensor *> (part of the specification). At some point in time, I need to call a function that indiscriminately stores those Sensor *. (also part of the specification, not open for discussion) Something like this: for(size_t i = 0; i < Sensors.size(); ++i) Sensors[i]->storeSensor(os) //os is an ofstream kind of object, passed onwards by reference Where and how shall storeSensor be defined? Is there any simple way to do this or will I need to disregard the specification? Mind you, I'm a beginner! Thanks for your time!

  • How would one call std::forward on all arguments in a variadic function?

    I was just writing a generic object factory and using the boost preprocessor meta-library to make a variadic template (using 2010 and it doesn't support them). My function uses rval references and std::forward to do perfect forwarding and it got me thinking...when C++0X comes out and I had a standard compiler I would do this with real variadic templates. How though, would I call std::forward on the arguments? template < typename ... Params void f(Params ... params) // how do I say these are rvalue reference? { y(std::forward(...params)); //? - I doubt this would work. } Only way I can think of would require manual unpacking of ...params and I'm not quite there yet either. Is there a quicker syntax that would work?
