  • Fastest way to access VB6 String in C#

    Hi I am using COMInterop. I have a call in VB6 which returns a string of roughly 13000 chars. If I execute the call in pure VB6 it takes about 800ms to execute. If I execute it via c# and COMInterop it takes about 8 seconds. I'm assuming the delay is caused by marshalling. If I am correct about marshalling, I'd be grateful if someone could suggest the fastest way I can get this into C#. e.g. Would it be better to a) expose it as a byte array b) provide a byref string param into the VB6 layer I would appreciate some sample code as well. I tried the Marshal.PtrToStringAuto(Marshal.ReadIntPtr(myCOMObject.GetString, 0) to no avail Many thx S

  • Restore Database from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2005

    I have created a set of tables (around 20) in SQL Server 2008 and entered around 1000 records to appropriate tables. But the issue is that I want that same tables with all the entered data into SQL Server 2005 (SQLEXPRESS). Obviously it won't work by taking a backup and restore it into SQL Server 2005 as it won't support backward compatibility. Any suggestion would be appreciated....

  • Using the public ssh key from local machine to access two remote users [closed]

    I have an new Ubuntu (Hardy 8.04) server; it has two users, Alice and Bob. Alice is listed in sudoers. I appended my public ssh key (my local machine's public key local/Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa.pub) to authorized_keys in remote_server/home/Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys, changed the permissions on Alice/.ssh/ to 700 and Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys to 600, and both the file and folder are owned my Alice. Then added I Alice to sshd_config (AllowUsers Alice). This works and I can login into Alice: ssh -v [email protected] ... debug1: Offering public key: /Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Server accepts key: pkalg ssh-rsa blen 277 debug1: Authentication succeeded (publickey). debug1: channel 0: new [client-session] debug1: Entering interactive session. Last login: Mon Mar 15 09:51:01 2010 from 123.456.789.00 I then copied the authorized_keys file remote_server/home/Alice/.ssh/authorized_keys to remote_server/home/Bob/.shh/authorized_keys and changed the permissions and ownership and added Bob to AllowUsers in sshd_config (AllowUsers Alice Bob). Now when I try to login to Bob it will not authenticate the same public key. ssh -v [email protected] ... debug1: Offering public key: /Users/nick/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /Users/nick/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /Users/nick/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try.   • Excel Plug-In Assembly Loading Problem (Access Denied)

    I am developing an Excel 2003 add-in using Visual Studio 2008. My add-in loads fine; however, it loads plug-ins from other C# DLL's. I would like this to be done dynamically at run time so referencing them during development is something I would rather not do. Anyways, anytime I try to load a DLL from the Excel add-in at start up, it throws a security exception. This particular example is HTML Agility Pack. It's not a plug-in but a plug-in's dependency. Now I want that every 60 seconds an ajax request check in the database if there are new posts. If there are new posts these will be inserted at the top above the old posts.     I am displaying a list of articles. I sort my articles by the param order, and i want, when displaying the list of article to be able to "move" them up or down. In php i do everything with a for browsing my array of results and inside the for i go to the next index to find where i am in the list, and with wich other article i must swap my order. I can do that in the script displaying the edit page and then in the script executing the update. In rails i have only my form_for in my erb. How can i : Know if my entry is the last one or the first one(display only V for the first, ^ for the last and V^ for the rest) Update my DB entry by switching the order value between the article that i want to lower, raise, and the one he is taking the place.

    SQLite3 uses dynamic typing rather than static typing, in contrast to other flavors of SQL. The SQLite website reads: Most SQL database engines (every SQL database engine other than SQLite, as far as we know) uses static, rigid typing. With static typing, the datatype of a value is determined by its container - the particular column in which the value is stored. SQLite uses a more general dynamic type system. In SQLite, the datatype of a value is associated with the value itself, not with its container. It seems to me that this is exactly what you don't want, as it lets you store, for example, strings in integer columns.     I like the apparent simplicity of JdbcTemplate but am a little confused as to how it works. It appears that each operation (query() or update()) fetches a connection from a datasource and closes it. Beautiful, but how do you perform multiple SQL queries within the same connection? I might want to perform multiple operations in sequence (for example SELECT followed by an INSERT followed by a commit) or I might want to perform nested queries (SELECT and then perform a second SELECT based on result of each row). How do I do that with JdbcTemplate. Am I using the right class?

  • Getting a ResultSet/RefCursor over a database link

    From the answers to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1122175/calling-a-stored-proc-over-a-dblink it seems that it is not possible to call a stored procedure and get the ResultSet/RefCursor back if you are making the SP call across a remote DB link. We are also using Oracle 10g. We can successfully get single value results across the link, and can successfully call the SP and get the results locally but we get the same 'ORA-24338: statement handle not executed' error when reading the ResultSet from the remote DB. My question - is there any workaround to using the stored procedure? Is a shared view a better solution? Piped rows?   • Setup Padrino with DataMapper and MySQL database

    Hello I am trying to setup a Padrino project using DataMapper and MySQL on my Mac OSX Snow Leopard. I have the necessary gems: dm-core data_objects do_mysql mysql (linked to my original Mac OSX installation) But when I try to start the padrino with PADRINO START from the console, I get the following error: /Users/ivolution/.bundle/ruby/1.9.1/gems/dm-core-0.10.2/lib/dm-core/adapters/mysql_adapter.rb:3:in `require': no such file to load -- do_mysql (LoadError) But as I said I do have do_mysql gem installed so there shouldn't be such error, I did bundle install in my project folder before trying to start Padrino. Any ideas?

  • WCF for a shared data access

    Hi all, I have a little experience with WCF and would like to get your opinion/suggestion on how the following problem can be solved: A web service needs to be accessible from multiple clients simultaneously and service needs to return a result from a shared data set. The concrete project I'm working on has to store a list of IP addresses/ranges. This list will be queried by a bunch of web servers for a validation purposes and we speak of a couple of thousand or more queries per minute. My initial draft approach was to use Windows service as a WCF host with service contract implementing class that is decorated with ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single, ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple) that has a list object and a custom locking for accessing it. So basically I have a WCF service singleton with a list = shared data - multiple clients. What I do not like about it is that data and communication layers are merged into one and performance wise this doesn't feel "right". What I really really (- want is Windows service running an instance of IP list holding container class object, a second service running WCF service contract implementation and a way the latter querying the former in a nice way with a minimal blocking. Using another WCF channel would not really take me far away from the initial draft implementation or would it? What approach would you take? Project is still in a very early stage so complete design re-do is not out of question. All ideas are appreciated. Thanks! UPDATE: The data set will be changed dynamically. Web service will have a separate method to add IP or IP range and on top of that there will be a scheduled task that will trigger data cleanup every 10-15 minutes according to some rules. UPDATE 2: a separate benchmark project will be kicked up that should use MSSQL as a data backend (instead on in-memory list).

    SQL Server Reporting Services, in SSRS it seems like Schedules never fire, however a look at the SQL Agent reveals a permission issue related to not being able to resolve a user account. Seems SQL Agent does not rely on caching or whatever voodoo Windows magically works. link text Fix is listed here... edit -- Above is the fix I used to workaround this issue, has any one found any other work arounds or resolutions to this issue? It seems that by default the SSRS Generated Schedules are run as this phantom user account. How do I change this default? Is SSRS creating the jobs as the user the service runs as? Thanks Remus

    I have problem of accessing my website created using visual studio on my local pc. the pc using windows 7 with static ip address has been configured and i have added a hostname "192.168.0.1 hosts myweb.mylocal.com" on c:\windows\system32\driver\etc. on the IIS i have configured the binding myweb.mylocal.com with impersonation set enabled and windows authentication is enabled. the user login just keep prompting eventhough i have entered the correct username and password.
