• Configure static IPv6 on Ubuntu

  I'm trying to configure IPv6 on a dedicated Ubuntu server. My provider gave me a "/64" (whatever that is - I'm still confused) of IPv6 addresses. However, when I try to use them, I can't ping anything. • Strange issue with 74.125.79.118

  I'm facing with a strange issue on a Linux server. After frequent crashes the analysis found that the server is led to collapse by a huge number of connections to the ip 74.125.79.118 departing from php scripts of the hosted web sites. After a depth analysis of the files I'm found that are not present any malware infections. Ip 74.125.79.118 is Google. I realize after a Google search that the connections to this ip are generated by embedded video from youtube on web sites, among other Google features like safe search. But I don't understand how this type of behavior can lead to the collapse the server and the uniqueness of the situation leads me to think that the situation is far from being attributable only to Google and Youtube. Also I've found that blocking connections from eth0 to 74.125.79.118:80 doesn't solve the issue but if I stop DNS traffic from eth0 to internet, connections to 74.125.79.118 stops. I'm really confused about this. Any suggestions? Cheers.

• Can't run utilities/.exe's that use the network from a [DFS] windows share on Windows 2008 servers. Can this be overcome?

  Under Windows Server 2008 I'm unable to run many utilities that use network resources. This works just fine under Windows Server 2003. For example: \\domain\dfs\tools$\bin\sendmail.exe ... \\domain\dfs\tools$\bin\psexec.exe ... echo %_metric% %_value% %_unixtime% | \\domain\dfs\bin\foo$\nc graphite.domain 2003 -w1 Reproducing and maintaining this folder on a large number of servers/vm's is not desirable. Is there a way to allow Windows Server 2008 to run these tools? If so, can this be enabled via GPO or in a fashion that can be scripted during automated builds? Edit: The commands/tools do work just fine, when run from local drives. They also run correctly when run directly from the file-servers behind the DFS. They only fail when we attempt to run them from the DFS UNC path or mapped drives.

• Printing a PDF results in garbled text (sometimes)

  We have a system that renders a report as a PDF, and displays it in the browser for the user. In the browser, the document always appears to display fine, but when printed on one machine, it sometimes changes some of the data in the report to seemingly random characters. Here are some examples of the strings it inserts: Ebuf; Bvhvt ul1: -!3122 Ti jqqf e!Wjb; Nfttf ohf s!Tf swjdf Additionally, the inter-character spacing is weird. It sometimes writes characters overlapping each other. I noticed some repetition in the garbled text, so I typed a few of them into Google, and surprisingly got a lot of hits. Here is the string I searched for: pdf cjmp ebuf nftf up! The Google search summaries contain the garbled text. However, when I click on those links in Google, I get perfectly readable PDF files. It's as if Google's PDF crawler has the same bug. Has anyone figured this out? Is this an Acrobat Reader bug?

• named responding recursive on norecurse queries

  I have a server on which named is running. It is intercepted with another named server which it is not aware of. Querying the first named server results in timeouts. The server tries to resolve the query recursively. During that the firewall redirects the DNS Request from the first named server to the second one (the query from the first one is addressed to a e.g. a root server and has its "Recursion desired" bit set to 0). Despite that the second named responds to this request with a entirely or at least 1 level more resolved response than the first named server expects. So it ends up with a timeout even though it got a correct name server or even the full IP for the queried domain. In the first case the first name server tries to follow the authority domain ignoring the coresponding glue record and ends up in a loop it aborts: queried: google.com -> got from named#2: ns1.google.com -> ignore glue record and query: ns1.google.com -> got authority from named#2: google.com In the second case it ignores the answer section with the correct IP and instead tries to follow the name servers from the authority section, which ends up in the same dead end as case 1. So how can it be that the second named responds with recursive results even though the bit was explicitly set to 0 in the request from the first named?

• WPF: Animating TranslateTransform from code

  I have a WPF canvas on which I'm dynamically creating objects from code. These objects are being transformed by setting the RenderTransform property, and an animation needs to be applied one of those transforms. Currently, I can't get properties of any transform to animate (although no exception gets raised and the animation appears to run - the completed event gets raised). In addition, if the animation system is stressed, sometimes the Storyboard.Completed event is never raised. All the examples I've come accross animate the transforms from XAML. MSDN documentation suggests that the x:Name property of a transform must be set for it to be animatable, but I haven't found a working way to set it from code. Any ideas? • django internationalization doesn't work

• Scaled live iPhone Camera view in center, "CGAffineTransformTranslate" not working

  Hi, I have a little problem which I could not solve. I really hope someone can help me with that. I wanted to resize the live camera view and place it in the center, using the following code below: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(picker.cameraViewTransform, 0.5, 0.56206); picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(picker.cameraViewTransform, 80, 120); But all I got was a scaled 1/2 sized view on the top left of the screen. It seems as though "CGAffineTransformTranslate" does nothing at all. The translation didn't work even when I used: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformMake(1, 0, 0, 1, 80, 120); The translation portion seems to have no effect on the live camera view. Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

• Trouble cross-referencing two XML child nodes in AS3

  I am building a mini language translator out of XML nodes and Actionscript 3. I have my XML ready. It contains a series of nodes with two children in them. Here is a sample: <translations> <entry> <english>man</english> <cockney>geeza</cockney> </entry> <entry> <english>woman</english> <cockney>lily</cockney> </entry> </translations> The AS3 part consist of one input box named "textfield_txt" where the English word will be typed in. An output text field for the translation called "cockney_txt". Finally, one button to execute the translation called "generate_mc". The idea is to have actionscript look through the XML for key English words after the user types it in the "textfield", cross-freferences the children then returns the Cockney translation as a value. The trouble is, when I test it I get no response or error messages- it's completely silent. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. At present, I have setup a conditional statement to tell me whether the function works or not. The result is, no it's not! Here's the code below. I hope someone can help.   Hello there, is it possible to follow a link by it's class name instead of the id, text or title? Given I have (haha, cucumber insider he?) the following html code: <div id="some_information_container"> <a href="edit" class="edit_button">Translation here</a> </div> I do not want to match by text because I'd have to care about the translation values in my tests I want to have my buttons look all the same style, so I will use the CSS class. I don't want to assign a id to every single link, because some of them are perfectly identified through the container and the link class Is there anything I missed in Cucumber/Webrat? Or do you have some advices to solve this in a better way?   So, you've probably heard about Apple's change to its agreement to prohibit source-to-source translation, thereby blocking translation from Flash (in CS5) and also from Android (via XMLVM). You may also have read about a response by a well-known Adobe developer, and calls to boycott development for the iPhone. Given that this audience is a better representative of the developer community than those who post comments on the NYT, Digg, and other news sites, I was wondering what your opinions were about this decision. Will any of you switch to Android from the iPhone or avoid development on the iPhone as a result of this? Since this is fairly subjective, I am making this a community wiki. • An IOCP documentation interpretation question - buffer ownership ambiguity

  Since I'm not a native English speaker I might be missing something so maybe someone here knows better than me. Taken from WSASend's doumentation at MSDN: lpBuffers [in] A pointer to an array of WSABUF structures. Each WSABUF structure contains a pointer to a buffer and the length, in bytes, of the buffer. For a Winsock application, once the WSASend function is called, the system owns these buffers and the application may not access them. This array must remain valid for the duration of the send operation. Ok, can you see the bold text? That's the unclear spot! I can think of two translations for this line (might be something else, you name it): Translation 1 - "buffers" refers to the OVERLAPPED structure that I pass this function when calling it. I may reuse the object again only when getting a completion notification about it. Translation 2 - "buffers" refer to the actual buffers, those with the data I'm sending. If the WSABUF object points to one buffer, then I cannot touch this buffer until the operation is complete. Can anyone tell what's the right interpretation to that line? And..... If the answer is the second one - how would you resolve it? Because to me it implies that for each and every data/buffer I'm sending I must retain a copy of it at the sender side - thus having MANY "pending" buffers (in different sizes) on an high traffic application, which really going to hurt "scalability". Statement 1: In addition to the above paragraph (the "And...."), I thought that IOCP copies the data to-be-sent to it's own buffer and sends from there, unless you set SO_SNDBUF to zero. Statement 2: I use stack-allocated buffers (you know, something like char cBuff[1024]; at the function body - if the translation to the main question is the second option (i.e buffers must stay as they are until the send is complete), then... that really screws things up big-time! Can you think of a way to resolve it? (I know, I asked it in other words above).

• How to enable i18n from within setup_app in websetup.py ?

  From within the setup_app function (websetup.py) of a pylons i18n application, which is making use of a db, I was trying to initiate multilingual content to be inserted into the db. To do so the idea was something like: necessary imports here def setup_app(command, conf, vars): .... for lang in langs: set_lang(lang) content=model.Content() content.content=_('content') Session.add(content) Session.commit() Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't work. the set_lang code line is firing an exception as follows: File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 179, in set_lang translator = _get_translator(lang, **kwargs) File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 160, in _get_translator localedir = os.path.join(rootdir, 'i18n') File ".. /posixpath.py", line 67, in join elif path == '' or path.endswith('/'): AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith' Actually I'm even not sure it could be possible launching i18n mechanisms from within this setup_app function without an active request object. Anyone has tried some trick on a similar story ?

• iOS: Gesture recogniser for smooth scrolling and flicking a View

  I am building an iPad app where I needed to allow resizing views functionality using divider view provided between two views. This divider view is just a 20px height view between two half screen content views - please refer attached images. When user scrolls this divider view up or down, both content views changes their sizes appropriately. I have extended UIView and implemented this using touchMoved delegate as code given below in touchesMoved delegate. It works fine. The only thing is missing with TouchMoved is you can't flick divider view to top or bottom directly. You have to scroll all the way to top or bottom! To support flicking the view I have tried UIPanGestureRecognizer but I don't see smooth scrolling with it. When I handle split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateChanged state, just touching divider view flick it to top or bottom. Handling split position change in UIGestureRecognizerStateEnded does the same but I don't see content view resizing with dividerview scrolling! Could someone please tell me how could I achieve both smooth scrolling of divider view with resizing content views(like touchMoved) and flicking the view. Any alternative approach would also fine.   I am trying to create a table in my MS SQL database for Languages. I want to store an English name of Language and a local name of language in the database. i.e. Language, Language(local) English, English German, Deutsch Italian, Italiano Japanese, ??? ... ... I have 279 languages that I want to import, but when I import it shows '?????' for some like japanese, Russian and arabic etc The database Collation is Latin1_General_CI_AS. I would also like advise on multilingual websites; if i have a database of product descriptions and I want to have translation in multiple languages, should I go for separate databases or Can I have translation in one databse? (I prefer not to duplicate data!). Anything else to make sure users are able to write comments in different languages (char encoding on web?) and can be stored in database.

In the other hand, most developers would know english anyway... In your locale culture, are technical words translated into locale words ? For example, how "Design Pattern", or "Factory", or whatever are written/said in german, spanish, etc. etc. when used by IT? Are the english words prefered? The local translation? Do the two version (english/locale) are evenly used? Edit Could you write with your answer the locale translation of "Design Pattern"? In french, according to Wikipedia.fr, it is "Patron de conception", which translates back as "Model of Conceptualization" (I guess).

Yet, all the content must be translated, and we're talking about lots of pages, that will be stored into the database ( like articles, news, etc. ) For now, I'm thinking of two approaches: Lets say i have a Pages table, the content in diff. languages, i will be storing it in a different table called PagesContent that will belong_to Pages and also to a Languages table. The problem here, is that I'll essentially duplicate the no. of tables needed. Pros: flexibility, in the box validation To skip that duplication i can serialize a hash into the content column of Pages, containing the translation. The problem here, is validation, arguably more code to write, and less flexibility when adding a new language. Pros: Less tables. Any other idea ?

  My scenario: There are 3 tables for storing tv show information; season, episode and episode_translation. My data: There are 3 seasons, with 3 episodes each one, but there is only translation for one episode. My objetive: I want to get a list of all the seasons and episodes for a show. If there is a translation available in a specified language, show it, otherwise show null. • getTitle() on Doctrine i18n with non-default language

  Hi, I'm having a problem getting the title of an object from my i18n object in Doctrine 1.1.6 / Symfony 1.2 I have the following Doctrine Table method: public function getPlace($place_id, $lang=''){ $q = Doctrine::getTable('Place') ->createQuery('p'); if($lang != '') $q = $q->leftJoin('p.Translation ptr') ->addWhere('ptr.lang = ?', $lang); return $q->addWhere('p.id = ?', $place_id) ->fetchOne(); } Then on the view file if I do $place-getTitle(), it prints the title correctly in the language I wanted. However, if I do $place-getTitle() on an action it returns nothing, I have to do $place-Translation['es']-title to get the title in Spanish. If I work with the default language ('en') $place-getTitle() works. Any idea on how to make $place-getTitle() to work always? thanks!

• How to enable i18n from within setup_app in websetup.py ? (formatted resend)

  From within the setup_app function (websetup.py) of a pylons i18n application, which is making use of a db, I was trying to initiate multilingual content to be inserted into the db. To do so the idea was something like: #necessary imports here def setup_app(command, conf, vars): .... for lang in langs: set_lang(lang) content=model.Content() content.content=_('content') Session.add(content) Session.commit() Unfortunately it seems that it doesn't work. the set_lang code line is firing an exception as follows: File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 179, in set_lang translator = _get_translator(lang, **kwargs) File ".. i18n/translation.py", line 160, in _get_translator localedir = os.path.join(rootdir, 'i18n') File ".. /posixpath.py", line 67, in join elif path == '' or path.endswith('/'): AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'endswith' Actually I'm even not sure it could be possible launching i18n mechanisms from within this setup_app function without an active request object. Anyone has tried some trick on a similar story ?

• ZF Autoloader to load ancestor and requested class

  I am integrating Zend Framework into an existing application. I want to switch the application over to Zend's autoloading mechanism to replace dozens of include() statements. I have a specific requirement for the autoloading mechanism, though. Allow me to elaborate. The existing application uses a core library (independent from ZF), for example: /Core/Library/authentication.php /Core/Library/translation.php /Core/Library/messages.php this core library is to remain untouched at all times and serves a number of applications. The library contains classes like class ancestor_authentication { ... } class ancestor_translation { ... } class ancestor_messages { ... } in the application, there is also a Library directory: /App/Library/authentication.php /App/Library/translation.php /App/Library/messages.php these includes extend the ancestor classes and are the ones that actually get instantiated in the application. class authentication extends ancestor_authentication { } class translation extends ancestor_translation { } class messages extends ancestor_messages { } usually, these class definitions are empty. They simply extend their ancestors and provide the class name to instantiate. $authentication = new authentication(); The purpose of this solution is to be able to easily customize aspects of the application without having to patch the core libraries. Now, the autoloader I need would have to be aware of this structure. When an object of the class authentication is requested, the autoloader would have to: 1. load /Core/Library/authentication.php 2. load /App/Library/authentication.php My current approach would be creating a custom function, and binding that to Zend_Loader_Autoloader for a specific namespace prefix. Is there already a way to do this in Zend that I am overlooking? The accepted answer in this question kind of implies there is, but that may be just a bad choice of wording. Are there extensions to the Zend Autoloader that do this? Can you - I am new to ZF - think of an elegant way, conforming with the spirit of the framework, of extending the Autoloader with this functionality? I'm not necessary looking for a ready-made implementation, some pointers (This should be an extension to the xyz method that you would call like this...) would already be enough.
