How do Arrays work in C#?

I know that they are used to store data, but I have a difficult time understanding exactly how to use them in a program. In addition, I found this site with a tetris clone tutorial (the actual tutorial is missing). It uses arrays, but I can't really make sense of how it works. Here's an example of the code - public int[, ,] TShape = new int[4, 4, 2] { {{1, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {2, 1}}, {{1, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {1, 2}}, {{0, 0}, {1, 0}, {2, 0}, {1, 1}}, {{0, 0}, {0, 1}, {1, 1}, {0, 2}}}; Could it be that I'm looking too hard into this, or perhaps there's something I'm not grasping about it?

Is there a writable iterator in Java?

In C+ one can use iterators for writing to a sequence. Simplest example would be: vector<int> v; for (vector<int>::iterator it = v.begin(); it!=v.end(); ++it) { *it = 42; } I need something more complicated - keep iterator as a class member for a later use. But I don't know how to get this behavior from Java iterators. Are there writable iterators in Java at all? If not then what replaces them?

reading a file that doesn't exist

Hi, I have got a small program that prints the contents of files using the system call - read. unsigned char buffer[8]; size_t offset=0; size_t bytes_read; int i; int fd = open(argv[1], O_RDONLY); do{ bytes_read = read(fd, buffer, sizeof(buffer)); printf("0x%06x : ", offset); for(i=0; i<bytes_read; ++i) { printf("%c ", buffer[i]); } printf("\n"); offset = offset + bytes_read; }while(bytes_read == sizeof(buffer)); Now while running I give a file name that doesn't exist. It prints some kind of data mixed with environment variables and a segmentation fault at the end. How is this possible? What is the program printing? Thanks, John

Initialising structs in C++

As an addendum to this question, what is going on here: #include <string> using namespace std; struct A { string s; }; int main() { A a = {0}; } Obviously, you can't set a std::string to zero. Can someone provide an explanation (backed with references to the C++ Standard, please) about what is actually supposed to happen here? And then explain for example): int main() { A a = {42}; } Are either of these well-defined? Once again an embarrassing question for me - I always give my structs constructors, so the issue has never arisen before.

Does SQL Server Compact not support keywords 'Foreign Key References' in Create Table or am I making a mistake?

I keep getting errors using Sql Compact. I have seen that it is possible to create table constraints in compact edition as shown here. And according to the documents found here it provides "Full referential integrity with cascading deletes and updates". So am I really not allowed to do the following or am I making a mistake? I keep getting complaints from sql server compact edition that the constaint is not valid, though it works fine on express edition. How do I clear the contents of a file using c?

I'm writing some code so that at each iteration of a for loop it runs a functions which writes data into a file, like this: int main() { int i; /* Write data to file 100 times */ for(i = 0; i < 100; i++) writedata(); return 0; } void writedata() { /* Create file for displaying output */ FILE *data; data = fopen("output.dat", "a"); /* do other stuff */ ... } How do I get it so that when I run the program it will delete the file contents at the beginning of the program, but after that it will append data to the file? I know that using the "w" identifier in fopen() will open a new file that's empty, but I want to be able to 'append' data to the file each time it goes through the 'writedata()' function, hence the use of the "a" identifier.

Why is visual studio not aware that an integer's value is changing? (debugging)

I have a few simple lines of code (below). [bp] indicates a breakpoint. for(int i=0;i<300;i++){} int i=0; cout<<i; [bp] for (i=0;i<200;i++){} When I debug this in visual studio, it tells me that i is equal to 300 on the breakpoint. Annoyingly, 0 is printed to the console. Is there any way to make it realize that two variables in different scopes can actually have the same name? I also want to add some code to the second loop and then debug it - but when I try to do that, i is consistently shown as 300. Very annoying.

Why is comparing against "end()" iterator legal?

According to C++ standard (3.7.3.2/4) using (not only dereferencing, but also copying, casting, whatever else) an invalid pointer is undefined behavior (in case of doubt also see this question). Now the typical code to traverse an STL containter looks like this: std::vector<int> toTraverse; //populate the vector for( std::vector<int>::iterator it = toTraverse.begin(); it != toTraverse.end(); ++it ) { //process( *it ); } std::vector::end() is an iterator onto the hypothetic element beyond the last element of the containter. There's no element there, therefore using a pointer through that iterator is undefined behavior. Now how does the != end() work then? I mean in order to do the comparison an iterator needs to be constructed wrapping an invalid address and then that invalid address will have to be used in a comparison which again is undefined behavior. Is such comparison legal and why?

Read from file in eclipse

I'm trying to read from a text file to input data to my java program. However, eclipse continuosly gives me a Source not found error no matter where I put the file. I've made an additional sources folder in the project directory, the file in question is in both it and the bin file for the project and it still can't find it. I even put a copy of it on my desktop and tried pointing eclipse there when it asked me to browse for the source lookup path. No matter what I do it can't find the file. here's my code in case it's pertinent: System.out.println(System.getProperty("user.dir")); File file = new File("file.txt"); Scanner scanner = new Scanner(file); in addition, it says the user directory is the project directory and there is a copy there too. Python win32api not moving mouse cursor in VirtualBox

I'm trying to use this Python code: import math for i in xrange(500): x = 500 + math.sin(math.pi * i / 100) * 500 y = 500 + math.cos(i) * 100 x, y = int(x), int(y) win32api.SetCursorPos((x, y)) time.sleep(.01) taken from here to move the mouse cursor in an XP VirtualBox. The mouse icon will flicker to the appropriate graphic (when it hits the edge of a window it turns into the <- resize image, for instance), but it doesn't actually move the visible cursor. I can move the mouse around while the code is running. Same result using the ctypes example in the above link. It works fine in the Win7 host. I have Guest Additions installed, if that matters.

Using new to allocate an array of class elements with an overloaded constructor in C++.

As an example say I have a class foo that does not have a default constructor but one that looks like this foo:foo(int _varA,int _varB) { m_VarA = _varA; m_VarB = _varB; } How would I allocate an array of these. I seem to remember trying somthing like this unsuccessfully. foo* MyArray = new foo[100](25,14). I don't think this will work either. foo* MyArray = new foo[100](25,14) Can this be done? I typically do this by writing the default constructor using some preset values for _varA and _varB. Then adding a function to reset _varA and _varB for each element but that will not work for this case. Thanks for the help.

What is the best way to find the digit at n position in a decimal number?

Background I'm working on a symmetric rounding class and I find that I'm stuck with regards to how to best find the number at position x that I will be rounding. I'm sure there is an efficient mathematical way to find the single digit and return it without having to resort to string parsing. Problem Suppose, I have the following (C#) psuedo-code: var position = 3; var value = 102.43587m; // I want this no ? (that is 5) protected static int FindNDigit(decimal value, int position) { // This snippet is what I am searching for } Also, it is worth noting that if my value is a whole number, I will need to return a zero for the result of FindNDigit. Does anyone have any hints on how I should approach this problem? Is this something that is blaringly obvious that I'm missing?

Excel 2008 Cant Parse HTML

I need to export a gridview to excel, I put the return html code from the gridview to a HtmlTextWriter and put this into the response. The result file work fine in excel, excel can parse the html and the result is readable, work perfect on excel 2003 and 2007, but in some machines with Excel 2008 (MACOS) excel shows only the raw html code and can't process this html code. Any idea to configure excel?
