  Hi I'm starting to learn symfony for php framework and I got problem with httpd.conf configuration. First, I have xampplite installed on my windows c:\xampplite\ and then I created a symfony project (as described on getting started guide) c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\ Everything works fine when I tried to access http://localhost/symfonytest/web/ (all icons and text are displayed pretty well) Now I got to configure the httpd.conf and I type like this: <VirtualHost 127.0.0.1/symfonytest> DocumentRoot "c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\web" DirectoryIndex index.php <Directory "c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\web"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> Alias /sf c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\web\sf <Directory "c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\web\sf"> AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> But it has no effect at all ... when I type http://127.0.0.1/symfonytest/ it still displayed directory list of my c:\xampplite\htdocs\symfonytest\ How to solve this httpd.conf problem? • In what areas might the use of F# be more appropriate than C#?

  Over the last few years F# has evolved into one of Microsoft's fully supported languages employing many ideas incubated in OCaml, ML and Haskell. Over the last several years C# has extended it's general purpose features by introducing more and more functional language features: LINQ (list comprehension), Lamdas, Closures, Anonymous Delegates and more... Given C#'s adoption of these functional features and F#'s taxonomy as an impure functional language (it allows YOU to access framework libraries or change shared state when a function is called if you want to) there is a strong similarity between the two languages although each has it's own polar opposite primary emphasis. I'm interested in any successful models employing these two languages in your production polyglot programs and also the areas within production software (web apps, client apps, server apps) you have written in F# in the past year or so that you would previously have written in C#. • I need to Split a string based on a complex delimiter

  In C# I need to split a string (a log4j log file) into array elements based on a particular sequence of characters, namely "nnnn-nn-nn nn:nn:nn INFO". I'm currently splitting this log file up by newlines, which is fine except when the log statements themselves contain newlines. I don't control the input (the log file) so escaping them somehow is not an option. It seems like I should be able to use a comparator or a regex to identify the strings, but String.Split does not have an option like that. Am I stuck rolling my own, or is there a pattern or framework component that can be of help here?

• Split ExtJS for incremental (on demand) download.

  Hello. I had earlier asked whether I can remove un-utilized JavaScript code from ExtJS library. JSBuilder was the answer. What about being able to download widgets on-demand? I ask this because I have discovered this from the of markup generated by Coolite (ASP.Net framework that wraps ExtJS). So do I have to go through a meticulous process of splitting the library myself or is there a better way? BTW I'd like to avoid using Coolite.

• What's the best method to be overloaded in ViewPage for inserting some script to all ViewPage?

  I want to insert some script that is required for my JavaScript library in all view pages. I know that Asp.net MVC is built on Asp.net Framework. Therefore, I can override many methods in “System.Web.UI.Page” class that is a parent of “System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage” class. Nevertheless, I can do it by override Render method but it makes all view pages be invalid for XHTML 1.0 strict. • Spry Collapsible Panel within Collapsible Panel, inconsistent errors.

  Hello everyone it is me again with another question. The booking system located here http://www.divethegap.com/scuba-diving-programmes-dive-the-gap/divemaster-training.php?cat=16 There are 3 main collapsible panels controlled by the spry framework. There are then over a dozen more inside the first collapsible panel as you can see on that page. When you open one of those by pressing one of the 'learn more' buttons you will see that the main collapsible panel that it is in also expands to fit that content and the contracts if you close the smaller panel again. However as soon as you go to the next main collapsible panel 'summery and quote' and then go back to the first main panel by pressing the button that says 'back' there are problems. Now if you open up one of the smaller panels inside the first main panel you will see that the main panel does not expand to fit the contents and in fact the content of the smaller panels spreads over the other content, floating above it.   Hi, I have a loosely coupled web app (one part uses PHP, the other uses WGSI). The WSGI/python framework shares the authentication with the PHP app, meaning that generally, the user should Log in via the PHP interface Now the user can access any of the WSGI pages [this part works if the user has logged in] What I want to do though, is if a user tries to access a WSGI page while not logged in (maybe from a previous bookmark), I would like to redirect him to the login page, and after logging in redirect him back to the orignal URL. I'm not very experienced with server-side programming, so here are my questions. How should I redirect the user back to the PHP login page? What should the HTTP status code be? Do I need to set any extra header information? What is a good way/best practice method to pass the original URL to the login page, and then after logging have it redirect the user back. Thank you!

• C# - Layout problem on Windows XP professional

  I am developing a C# application with .NET Framework 2.0. The problem is, that on my client's PC, the controls get expanded, layout changes (positions of the controls gets changed), sometimes buttons get missed entirely. It happens even on Forms with 2-3 TextBoxes, 2-3 Buttons and some Labels. I tried a lot of investigations. I tried to show a message in the form's resize event. But it doesn't get called. After digging a bit more, it seemed that in Designer.cs file even though ResumeLayout (false) is being called for the form, but this causes the the expansion/disposition of the controls. My Client is using Windows XP professional on his Dell laptop. He is able to reproduce the issue on other laptops with Windows XP professional. But not in other OSes (like Windows XP Home or Windows Vista). In my desktop with Windows XP professional, it is not reproducible. How can this issue be resolved?

  Hello all, I have been searching and haven't got luck, I got a tutorial to use the loginview control in order to display or hide parts of the views to different user roles in my application. The thing is that the tutorial I've found is for ASP.NET and I've been told by one of my colleages that it is the same framework for ASP.NET MVC but the way to use it is different. Have you got any good tutorial to recommend? EDIT: I've got all my application set up, and the login and the roles already configured (via asp.net membership provider). This is all already running. The thing is that if I have role a and role b I want role a to be able to actually see the links to the actions it is authorized to work with, and not b for example. If in the Index of my application I've got a link to "Edit" and only the role a can access to the action, then it will be displayed just for logged in users that belong to role a, and not to those who belong to role b Thank you, Vikitor

• FireLog: proper installation...

  I have installed the firewiresdk26 on my dev mac... and in the Tools/ directory is FireLog. I have run the FireLog 2.0.0.pkg installer on my dev mac, but the payload it deploys is installed in my /System/Library tree, as opposed to my /Developer/SDKs tree. so when I try to include the header iokit/firewire/FireLog.h it does not get found. am I missing something? or doing something wrong? or is this an error in the installer (either FW26 or FireLog installers?) I realize that the FireLog installer is intended to be run on the machine to be debugged remotely and thus it makes sense that the framework is placed in the /System/Library path, however none of the installers gets it into my developer path... I guess I just have to move it over there by hand, but before I do that I wanted to see if I'm just overlooking something silly and need to read the docs with more concentration or something... anyone run into this before? • TypeInitializationException When Getting an NHibernate Session

  I’ve run into what appears to be an NHibernate config problem. Basically, I ran up a simple proof of concept persistence integration test using NUnit, the test simply querys an Oracle database and successfully returns the last record received by the underlying table. However, when the assemblies are taken out of the NUnit test environment and deployed as they would be for an actual application build, my call for an NHibernate session results in a ‘TypeInitializationException’ whilst executing the code line: sessionFactory = New Configuration().Configure().BuildSessionFactory() The application is a vb.net console app running against an Oracle 9.2 database, using a ‘coding framework’ published on the web by Bill McCafferty entitled 'NHibernate Best Practices with ASP.NET' (pre S#harp Architecture). • WCF DataContracts and underlying data structures

  I am wondering what makes sense in relation to what objects to expose through a WCF service - should I add WCF Serialization specifications to my business entities or should I implement a converter that maps my business entities to the DataContracts that I want to expose through my WCF service? Right now I have entities on different levels: DataAccess, Business and Contract. I have converters in place that can map entities from DataAccess to Business and from Business to Contract and vice versa. Implementing and Maintaining those is time consuming and pretty tedious. What are best practices in relation to this? If I were using an OR/M such as NHibernate or Entity Framework should I be exposing the entities from the ORM directly or should I abstract them the same way I am doing now? Thanks in advance.

• MacPorts on Snow Leopard: Python install seems to succeed but doesn't install a non-system Python

  I've installed Python via MacPorts. According to this question, the files in /opt/local/bin should run the "correct" Python version. However, all those files are symlinks to: /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/ Running them directly from that folder (using no symlinks) runs an Apple build of Python!   Hi there, Currently I have a service that looks like: Some app <-- WCF Service <-- Business Logic <-- Entity Framework Model <-- SQL Database One of "some app" would be Silverlight, but there as well will be lots of other clients (mainly mobile devices). To me the greatest benefit of having RIA services is possibility of making ordinary (not asynchronous) calls from Silverlight. I wondered if there is an easy way of converting what I have so far to be a RIA service? I as well wonder if there is a point of doing so if I plan to use the same service for multiple platforms/clients? Any help/links would be greatly appreciated.

  Using the .NET framework, I'm trying to replace double slash characters in a string with a single slash, but it seems to be removing an extra character and I don't know why. • Is there an NSCFTimer memory leak?

  I tracked down a memory leak with instruments. I always end up with the information that the responsible library is Foundation. When I track that down in my code, I end up here, but there's nothing wrong with my memory management: - (void)setupTimer { // stop timer if still there [self stopAnimationTimer]; NSTimer *timer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:0.2 target:self selector:@selector(step:) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; self.animationTimer = timer; // retain property, -release in -dealloc method } the property animationTimer is retaining the timer. In -dealloc I -release it. Now that looks like a framework bug? I checked with iPhone OS 3.0 and 3.1, both have that problem every time I use NSTimer like this. Any idea what else could be the problem? (my memory leak scan interval was 0.1 seconds. but same thing with 5 seconds)

It's a fairly big subject so am hoping somone on here as here as got some good reading materials on that cover these subjects. At this very moment in time, im reading this; Tutorial01 Its not much, but its a good starting point. I'm not a big fan MSDN and the way its structured and layout, I mainly use it for framework related questions like classes and interfaces and etc. WHen it comes to tutorials, i prefer thrid party websites. • How to change line thickness in iText?

  I'm drawing images to pdf using Java framework iText. I need to draw lines of specified width. There is a method setLineWidth(float width) in class PdfContentByte that should change it. However no matter what value I pass as its parameter the lines drawn are always extra thin. There is following line in javadoc of setLineWidth: The line width specifies the thickness of the line used to stroke a path and is measured in user space units. I don't know what is "space unit". Everything else in iText seems to be measured in point(around 1/72 inch). I cant find any reference to what are those "space units" and how to change them. code: to.setLineWidth(thickness); to.moveTo(x, y); to.lineTo(x + 100, y + 100); Variable to contains instance of PdfContentByte.

• Visual Studio Multi-Targeting (maintaing backwards compatability)

  I know in Visual Studio 2008 you can target a specific framework with your projects, but from what I have been told if you open a project originally created in Visual Studio 2003 or 2005 in Visual Studio 2008, it requires you to upgrade the project to a 2008 project to work on it. Does Visual Studio 2010 have this same type of restriction for multi-targeting? It would be very nice being able to use features of 2010 when working in our projects that target different frameworks, but we do not want to force all of our developers to upgrade in order to continue working in these projects.

It does not matter how steep is the learning curve as long I am willing to devote all the time in the world. There are lot going on like Microsoft WebAPI, Dot net nuke MVC SPA etc. Let me tell you what i know I have very good experience in developing database driven .net application using winforms and wpf. Average experience in asp.net and asp.net mvc. Good in entity framework, ado.net and wcf rest services. Good in IoC/DI.

• sharp architecture question, nhibernate validation

  I have marked certain properties in my domain object for the nhibernate validation 'framework'. If I do this in my controller explicitly: ICollection<IValidationResult> test = bla.ValidationResults(); I get the validation errors which I could add to my asp.net mvc modelstate ideally, i would like an exception being thrown during: bla = blaRepository.SaveOrUpdate(bla); if i try to save or update the domain object. why is this not happening? my domain object bla derives from Entity. do I have to register something somehow?
