• How to run a WebForms page and an MVC page in different files?

  when i try to do this and load the webforms page, i get this error, even tho the path is correct. what can i do to get past this? i've tried running the aspx page from the root as well. nada.   Hello, I have to insert full path to every single image/css file of my website, because of url_rewriting and I'm looking for the most officiant way to do it. Of course I could do: <img src='<?php echo $full_path; ?>/images/theImg.jpg' alt='alternative text' /> But somewhere I saw people doing it like this, or something: <img src='{full_path}/images/theImg.jpg' /> Now do you know how the second example is possible, or is it just part of some framework and can't be used in normal document? • Getting-started: Setup Database for Node.js

  I am new to node.js but am excited to try it out. I am using Express as a web framework, and Jade as a template engine. Both were easy to get setup following this tutorial from Node Camp. However the one problem I am finding is I can't find a simple tutorial for getting a DB set up. I am trying to build a basic chat application (store session and message). Does anyone know of a good tutorial? This other SO post talks about dbs to use- but as this is very different from the Django/MySQL world I've been in, I want to make sure I understand what is going on. Thanks!

• Switching from web to desktop development

  Being a web developer (php, symfony, doctrine) for 2 years now, I was recently asked by a friend to come up with a desktop solution. So I developed a project, installed a LAMP on his machine and he is mostly happy using it now. But I'm not. It just doesn't seem right to wait for a server response from a localhost. Obviously php isn't suited for desktop development. So, my question is: what language \ framework would you advice a php programmer if he was going to develop a desktop application (something that you can install, that has it's own gui, but utilizes the similar concepts of web apps: css, javascript, orm). I would like to bring up Python as a possible answer to my question. Does anyone have an experience of developing a desktop app with Python, utilizing an ORM and(or) HTML-based GUI?

  Hi, we have a cache which I would like to put some transaction scopes around so that any process have to explicitly 'commit' the changes it wants to do to the cached objects and make it possible to rollback any changes when the process fails halfway as well. Right now, we're deep cloning the cached objects on get requests, it works but it's not a clean solution and involves a fair bit of maintenance too. I remember hearing about some MTS (memory transaction scope) solution on .NetRocks a while back but can't remember the name of it! Does anyone know of a good MTS framework out there? Alternatively, if I was to implement my own, are there any good guidelines/patterns on how to do this? Thanks,

I know the industry's standard language is C++, for 3D graphics the main choice is between Direct 3D and OpenGL, but what is the most widely used GUI framework? I'm currently on a Mac so if native Windows API is the answer, then what is the cross platform choice?   Hi, I recently started to use AjaxControlToolkit v3.0.30930.0 in my application together with System.Web.Extension 3.5. My development environment is Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 2.0 and the development language is C#. The Ajax control I used is the ModalPopupExtender. I also used the UpdatePanel and updateprogress controls. Everything is working fine on my development machine. But I got a problem after I deployed the application to a server which does not have System.Web.Extension 3.5 installed, which is understandable. My question is, can the ajax controls I used work without System.Web.Extension 3.5? Say I revert the ajaxcontroltoolkit back to version 1.0.61025.0? I don't have the option to install .NET 3.5 as yet. Thank you for your help. John

• Using Connection Based State with Apache2

  I am writing an HTTPS based application using Apache2 as the web server, and python as the language (not sure which framework or Apache2 mod yet). After clients (which are not web browsers) first establish an HTTPS connection to the server, they are expected to send an authentication message. If authentication is successful, they are able to send more commands, until the connection is closed (HTTP 1.1 will be used, with a long keep alive time). My question is, is it possible to have state associated with the connection? I don't want the client to have to send cookies or session ids -- the HTTPS application should be able to figure out the session based on the connection that each request belongs to...the question is how?

• Dojo load time extremely slow on iis

  I am currently working on a project that is using Dojo as the js framework. Its a rather rich ui and as such is using (and thus loading) a lot of different .js files for the dojo plug-ins When run on an apache server running on a mac, the files (all around 1k) are served very quickly (1 or 2 ms) and the page loads pretty fast (<5 seconds) When run on IIS on Win 7, the files are served at an unbelievably slow rate (150ms - 1s), thus causing the page to take up to 3 minutes to load. I have searched the internet to try to find a solution and have come up empty. Anyone have any ideas?

  Hi, This is a conceptual question involving Hadoop/HDFS. Lets say you have a file containing 1 billion lines. And for the sake of simplicity, lets consider that each line is of the form <k,v> where k is the offset of the line from the beginning and value is the content of the line. Now, when we say that we want to run N map tasks, does the framework split the input file into N splits and run each map task on that split? or do we have to write a partitioning function that does the N splits and run each map task on the split generated? All i want to know is, whether the splits are done internally or do we have to split the data manually?   I'm starting to use the MVVMLight framework and have a question about binding to properties in the ViewModel. I found that I have to call the RaisePropertyChanged method in the setter for the property in order for the View to be updated. And I have to call RaisePropertyChanged from through the dispatcher otherwise I get a thread access error. public string Lat { get { return _lat; } set { _lat = value; Deployment.Current.Dispatcher.BeginInvoke(() => RaisePropertyChanged("Lat")); } } This works but its a lot of code to get auto binding properties. Is there a helper to handle this more cleanly?

Scenario 1: Price changes in a time period EffectiveDate ExpiryDate Price 2009-01-01 2009-01-31 800$ 2009-02-01 Null 900$ So, if the price changes to 910$ on 2009-02-15, then the system should automatically update the expiry date on the previous effective price to 2009-02-14, to keep it consistent. Scenario 2: No price specified between 2009-02-01 to 2009-02-28 EffectiveDate ExpiryDate Price 2009-01-01 2009-01-31 800$ 2009-03-01 Null 900$ So, if new price is specified for 2009-02-15 onwards , then the system should automatically set the expiry date on the record to be inserted to 2009-02-28, because already a record effective from 2009-03-01 exists. Please suggest an effective way to handle these scenarios to model my framework, or are there any frameworks around that can do this . Thanks

• Workaround for the Mono PrivateFontCollection.AddFontFile bug

  When I call the PrivateFontCollection.AddFontFile method in Mono.net It always returns a standard font-family. This bug has already been reported on several websites, but as far as I know without a way to solve it. The bug itself isn't fixed in the Mono-libraries yet. Is there any workaround for it? EDIT: As a reaction on henchman's answer I will post the code: PrivateFontCollection pfc = new PrivateFontCollection(); pfc.AddFontFile("myFontFamily.ttf"); myFontFamily = pfc.Families[0x00]; Font myFont = new Font(myFontFamily,14.0f); I know this code will work fine on the Microsoft.Net framework, but when executing on Mono, it just gives a standard font-family (I think it is Arial) with the name of myFontFamily.ttf

• C# Linq Entity Conversion Error on Nonexistent Value?

  While trying to query some data using the Linq Entity Framework I'm receiving the following exception: {"Conversion failed when converting the varchar value '3208,7' to data type int."} The thing that is confusing is that this value does not even exist in the view I am querying from. It does exist in the table the view is based on, however. The query I'm running is the following: return context.vb_audit_department .Where(x => x.department_id == department_id && x.version_id == version_id) .GroupBy(x => new { x.action_date, x.change_type, x.user_ntid, x.label }) .Select(x => new { action_date = x.Key.action_date, change_type = x.Key.change_type, user_ntid = x.Key.user_ntid, label = x.Key.label, count = x.Count(), items = x }) .OrderByDescending(x => x.action_date) .Skip(startRowIndex) .Take(maximumRows) .ToList(); Can somebody explain why LINQ queries the underlying table instead of the actual view, and if there is any way around this behavior?

• Java File and ByteArray or InputStream - please quick help

  I want to use jFuge to play some MIDI music in an applet. There's a class for the MIDI pattern - Pattern - and the only method to load the pattern is from a File. Now, I don't know how applets load files and what not, but I am using a framework (PulpCore) that makes loading assets a simple task. If I need to grab an asset from a ZIP catalogue, I can use the Assets class which provides get() and getAsStream() methods. get() returns the given asset as a ByteArray, the other as an InputStream. I need jFuge to load the pattern from either ByteArray or InputStream. In pseudo-code, I would like to do this: Pattern.load(new File(Assets.get("mymidifile.midi"))); however there is no File constructor that would take a ByteArray. Suggestions, please?

  I work on a project where we have to create unit tests for all of our simple beans (POJOs). Is there any point to creating a unit test for POJOs if all they consist of is getters and setters? Is it a safe assumption to assume POJOs will work about 100% of the time? Duplicate of - Should @Entity Pojos be tested? • SharePoint 2010 and VS 2010 - which releases work well?

  I'm having a hard time finding a combination of sharepoint and vs releases that work well together. So far I have tried: SP 4730 & VS RTM SP 4747 & VS RC SP 4763 (Debug RTM ish) & VS RC All of these had issues in one or both products. I'm now reverting to SP 4747 & VS RTM. Has anyone else found a combo that works well? Specifically, I'm creating a service application with some sync framework goodness. I get errors when deploying from vs or running the powershell cmdlets to deploy and provision stuff. Thanks

• UIScrollView resizes when a UIViewController is pushed in UINavigationController. Why?

  Hi! When I push a UIViewController within a UINavigationController, the UIScrollView in the view changes dimensions. Now even I am trying to resize the UIScrollView. It wont simply resize. It maintains the framework dimensions. Any idea why this would be happening. Example: My NIB has a view which has a scrollview with dimensions (320, 430) now when I push the UIViewController associated with the view the scrollview still shows dimensions has 320, 430, but is drawn much smaller then 320,430 Any suggestions in this regard.

  I have NUnit installed at this directory. C:\Program Files\NUnit 2.5.5\bin\net-2.0 When I try to run my unit test (mut.dll) in some random directory. I get the following error. I have to copy the mut.dll under the NUnit directory in order to run it. ProcessModel: Default DomainUsage: Single Execution Runtime: net-2.0 Could not load file or assembly 'nunit.framework, Version=2.5.5.10112, Culture=n eutral, PublicKeyToken=96d09a1eb7f44a77' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. What's wrong? Is there anything that I have to configure to run NUNit under any directory?

• How to stop the Bottle webserver when started from subprocess

  Hello all, I would like to embed the great Bottle web framework into a small application (1st target is Windows OS). This app starts the bottle webserver thanks to the subprocess module. import subprocess p = subprocess.Popen('python websrv.py') The bottle app is quite simple @route("/") def index(): return template('index') run(reloader=True) It starts the default webserver into a Windows console. All seems Ok except the fact that I must press Ctrl-C to close the bottle webserver. I would like that the master app terminates the webserver when it shutdowns. I can't find a way to do that (p.terminate() doesn't work in this case unfortunately) Any idea? Thanks in advance
