• Portable way to determining of printer is physical or virtual

  I need direct-to-printer functionality for my website, with the ability to distinguish a physical printer from a virtual printer (file). Coupons.com has this functionality via a native binary which must be installed by the user. I'd prefer to avoid that. SmartSource.com does it via Java applet: Does anybody know how this is done? I dug through that Java APIs a bit, and don't see anything that would let you determine physical vs virtual, except looking at the name (that seems prone to misidentification). It would be nice to be able to do it in Java, because I already know how to write Java applets. Failing that, is there a way to do this in Flash or Silverlight? Thanks in advance.   I'm using the low-level google datastore api and I want to query by the key property and another property (let's call it category). I need to query based on a list of keys for which I'll use the IN operator. I know that the max. number of values you can provide for the IN clause is 30. I have 2 questions: Does the limit of 30 IN values apply to the key property as well? Do I need to create a composite index on {_key_ + category} or just on {category} for this query? Thanks, Keyur

• javac - differences between classpath and sourcepath options

  Hi, I read the Sun documentation and a lot of Q/A on SO but I'm still a little bit confuse regarding the differences between the javac options -cp and -sourcepath. Let say I have this directory structure: c:\Java\project1\src (where the .java source files are) c:\Java\project1\bin (where the .class will be or are already) The class source MainClass.java is in a package "com.mypackage" and the directory structure is ok in src. I'm in the project1 directory. I run c:\Java\Project1\javac -d bin -sourcepath src src/com/mypackage/MainClass.java or c:\Java\Project1\javac -d bin -classpath src src/com/mypackage/MainClass.java and I obtain the same result. In verbose mode, the search path for source files is src in both cases. If anybody could help me figure out the specifics of these options, it would be great. Thank you.

• Mapping one to one foreign key relationships in Entity Framework 4.0?

  Hello all, I'm sure I'm missing something very simple, but let's say I have two entities, Employee and EmployeeType. Employee type would contain values like 'Full time', 'Contractor', 'Intern', etc. An Employee entity would contain one, and only one EmployeeType value. So I am designing a new .edmx model using the Model-First approach and generating my actual sql server data schema from the model. I want to add an integer type foreign key id into my Employee entity, EmployeeTypeId, which will map to the primary key of the EmployeeType entity. So I've gone ahead and done that in my Employee entity. Where I'm stuck is how, though the Entity Framework designer, to enforce the 1:1 referential constraint on that EmployeeTypeId property? Or does the EF handle that automatically behind the scenes? thanks in advance, John

  I have been messing with Open Graph for hours and can't figure out why Facebook still wont let me show an image when I share a link to a new site I just launched. Even sites I built 5 years ago that have no clue of Open Graph show images so I have no idea why this new site wont allow it. I just need to launch this site and every time I post the url in my status update only text appears. I re sized the image to be 200px x 135px but that still doesn't work.. It can find the image but it wont show up. Please help me figure this thing out. I have a number of people sharing this page right now and no image shows up.. So embarrassing. Thank you in advance!   Let's face it, programmers can be show-offs. I've seen a lot of code that was only done a particular way to prove how smart the person who wrote it was. What's the best example of pure show-off code you've seen (or been responsible for) in your time? For me, it'd have to be the guy who wrote FizzBuzz in one line on a whiteboard during a programming interview. Not really that impressive in the scheme of things, but completely unnecessary and pure, "look-what-I-can-do".   I'm trying to print Invoices in a Java Swing applications. I do that by extending Printable and implement the method public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int page). I would like to draw strings in columns, and when the string is to long I want to clip it and let it end with "...". How can I measure the string and clip it at the right position? Some of my code: Font headline = new Font("Times New Roman", Font.BOLD, 14); g2d.setFont(headline); FontMetrics metrics = g2d.getFontMetrics(headline); g2d.drawString(myString, 0, 20); I.e How can I limit myString to be max 120px?   Good morning everyone, Actually I'm having a small issue in image processing and I'm in need of some help. First of all, let me explain what i want to do, i have an image that was split into 4 other small images. I currently have like 6 small images that i need to figure out which ones are part of the real image. Second, what i currently know is that that i should compare these images edges or last column with the first column of the other image. I'm not sure yet what exactly should be done, anyone is able to put me on the same tracks, with some detailed hints and how to compare the edges of 2 images. • Starting new transaction within existing one in Spring bean

  We have: @Transactional(propagation = Propagation.REQUIRED) public class MyClass implementes MyInterface { ... MyInterface has a single method: go(). When go() executes we start a new transaction which commits/rollbacks when the method is complete - this is fine. Now let's say in go() we call a private method in MyClass that has @Transactional(propagation = Propagation.REQUIRES_NEW. It seems that Spring "ignores" the REQUIRES_NEW annotation and does not start a new transaction. I believe this is because Spring AOP operates on the interface level (MyInterface) and does not intercept any calls to MyClass methods. Is this correct? Is there any way to start a new transaction within the go() transaction? Is the only way to call another Spring managed bean that has transactions configured as REQUIRES_NEW?

  I have a web service with following operation contract and my service is hosted at http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/ [OperationContract] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "/Files/{Filepath}")] Stream DownloadFile(string Filepath); This web service would let users download file, if the proper filepath is provided (assuming, I somehow find out that proper filepath). Now, I can access this service from a browser by typing, http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/(Filepath} If {filepath} is some simple string, its not a problem, but I want to send the location of the file. Lets us say users want to download file C:\Test.mp3 on the server. But how can I pass C:\Test.mp3 as {Filepath}? I get an error when I type http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/C:\Test.mp3 in the browser. I am new to web services and find that this community is the quickest way to get answers to my questions.

I can accomplish it by the following: public class Association<TEntity, TId, TEntity2, TId2> where TEntity : Entity<TId> where TEntity2: Entity<TId2> { //... } This gets very tedious as more types derive from Association, because I have to keep passing down TId and TId2. Is there a simpler way to do this, besides just removing the constraint?

  Theres a war brewing I can feel it! Old school coders are used to having every server control create events in the .cs files.. for example.. Getting the Initial load of data, Saving Data, Deleting data... and then binding datasources to the server control.. New school coders want to do it in Jquery + AJAX calls to .svc files... That gives automatic no post backs so that is a advantage... and I think its a different way of thinking.. All of a sudden the UI related events are all being done in Jquery.. What is the most modern and efficient way to go ? How can I convince the old school coders to let us you this new paradigm ? (assuming it is the better way)

• IO completion port key confusion

  I'm writing an IO completion port based server (source code here) using the Windows DLL API in Python using the ctypes module. But this is a pretty direct usage of the API and this question is directed at those who have a knowledge of IOCP, not Python. As I understand the documentation for CreateIoCompletionPort, you specify your "user defined" completion key when you call this function with a file handle (in my case a socket) you are associating with the created IOCP. When you get around to calling GetQueuedCompletionStatus, you get a completion key value along with a pointer to an overlapped object. The completion key should identify what overlapped object and request has completed. However, let's say I pass in 100 as the completion key in my CreateIoCompletionPort call with an overlapped object. When the same overlapped object has its IO completed and it arrives back through GetQueuedCompletionStatus, the completion key that accompanies it is much larger and bares no resemblance to the original value of 100. Am I misunderstanding how the completion key works, or must I be doing it wrong in the source code I linked above?

• Passing an array of data as an input parameter to an Oracle procedure

  I'm trying to pass an array of (varchar) data into an Oracle procedure. The Oracle procedure would be either called from SQL*Plus or from another PL/SQL procedure like so: BEGIN pr_perform_task('1','2','3','4'); END; pr_perform_task will read each of the input parameters and perform the tasks. I'm not sure as to how I can achieve this. My first thought was to use an input parameter of type varray but I'm getting Error: PLS-00201: identifier 'VARRAY' must be declared error, when the procedure definiton looks like this: CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE PR_DELETE_RECORD_VARRAY(P_ID VARRAY) IS To summarize, how can I pass the data as an array, let the SP loop through each of the parameters and perform the task ? I'm using Oracle 10gR2 as my database.

  heyy there i want to parse a text,let's name it 'post', and 'urlize' some strings if they contain a particular character, in a particular position. my 'pseudocode' trial would look like that: def urlize(post) for string in post if string icontains ('#') url=(r'^searchn/$', searchn, name='news_searchn'), then apply url to the string return urlize(post) i want the function to return to me the post with the urlized strings, where necessary (just like twitter does). i don't understand: how can i parse a text, and search for certain strings? is there ok to make a function especially for 'urlizing' some strings? The function should return the entire post, no matter if it has such kind of strings. is there another way Django offers? Thank you

  I know how to change the state of the regular button, as well as change the background color of a regular button. However, what I have is a image lay on top of a button (customized button). I want, when the user click on it, something visually would happen to let the user know that button is selected, and when the user click again it go back to the regular state.
