  • Is "long" still useful in C?

    - by dan04
    It's not the largest integer type anymore now that there's "long long". It's not a fixed-width type: It's 32 bits on some platforms and 64 on others. It's not necessarily the same size as a pointer (for example, on 64-bit Windows) So, does "long" have any meaning anymore? Is there ever a reason to declare a long instead of a ptrdiff_t or int64_t?

  • Enum values doubts?

    - by maddy
    Hi all, Is there any possible way to do any arithmetic operations on enum values enum Type{Zero=0,One,Two,Three,Four,Five,Six,Seven,Eight,Nine}; main() { enum Type Var = Zero; for(int i=0;i<10;i++) { switch(Var) { case Zero: /*do something*/ case One: /*Do something*/ ..... } Var++;(I know that this increment is not possible,But is there anyway by which we can have this variable named Var increment. regards maddy

  • computing hash values, integral types versus struct/class

    - by aaa
    hello I would like to know if there is a difference in speed between computing hash value (for example std::map key) of primitive integral type, such as int64_t and pod type, for example struct { int16_t v[4]; };. I know this is going to implementation specific, so my question ultimately pertains to gnu standard library. Thanks

  • Jqeury Validate() special function

    - by kevin
    Hi there, i'm using the Jquery validate() plugin for some forms and it goes great. The only thing is that i have an input field that requires a special validation process. Here is how it goes: The Jquery validate plugin is called in the domready for all the required fields. Here is an exemple for an input: <li> <label for="nome">Nome completo*</label> <input name="nome" type="text" id="nome" class="required"/> </li> And here is how i call my special function: <li> <span id="sprytextfield1"> <label for="cpf">CPF* (xxxxxxxxxxx)</label> <input name="cpf" type="text" id="cpf" maxlength="15" class="required" /> <span class="textfieldInvalidFormatMsg">CPF Inv&aacute;lido.</span> </span> </li> And at the bottom of the file i call the Spry function: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var sprytextfield1 = new Spry.Widget.ValidationTextField("sprytextfield1","cpf"); //--> </script> Of course i call the Spry css and js files in the head section as well as my special-validate.js. When i just use the Jquery validate() plugin and click on the send button, the page goes automatically back to the first mistaken input field and shows the error type (not a number, not a valid email etc.). But with this new function, this "going-back-to-the-first-mistake" feature doesnt work, of course, because the validate() function sees it all good. I already added a rule for another form (about pictures upload) and it goes like this: $("#commentForm").validate({ rules: { foto34: { required: true, accept: "jpg|png|gif" } } }); Now my question is, how can i add the special validation function as a rule of the whole validation process ? Here is the page to understand it better: link text and the special field is the first one: CPF. Hope i was clear explaining my problem. Thanks in advance. kevin

  • primitives of a programming language

    - by Tim
    Hi, Which do the concepts control flow, data type, statement, expression and operation belong to? Syntax or semantics? What is the relation between control flow, data type, statement, expression, operation, function, ...? How a program is built from these primitives level by level? I would like to understand these primitive concepts and their relations in order to figure out what aspects of a new language should one learn. Thanks and regards!

  • Sending the command(s) spawned by xargs to background

    - by PoorLuzer
    I want to know how I can send the command(s) spawned by xargs to background. For example, consider find . -type f -mtime +7 | tee compressedP.list | xargs compress I tried find . -type f -mtime +7 | tee compressedP.list | xargs -i{} compress {} & .. and as unexpected, it seems to send xargs to the background instead? How do I make each instance of the compress command go to the background?

  • PyYAML parse into arbitary object

    - by Philip Fourie
    I have the following Python 2.6 program and YAML definition (using PyYAML): import yaml x = yaml.load( """ product: name : 'Product X' sku : 123 features : - size : '10x30cm' weight : '10kg' """ ) print type(x) print x Which results in the following output: <type 'dict'> {'product': {'sku': 123, 'name': 'Product X', 'features': [{'weight': '10kg', 'size': '10x30cm'}]}} It is possible to create a strongly typed object from x? I would like to the following: print x.features(0).size I am aware that it is possible to create and instance from an existent class, but that is not what I want for this particular scenario.

  • Issue with class template partial specialization

    - by DeadMG
    I've been trying to implement a function that needs partial template specializations and fallen back to the static struct technique, and I'm having a number of problems. template<typename T> struct PushImpl<const T&> { typedef T* result_type; typedef const T& argument_type; template<int StackSize> static result_type Push(IStack<StackSize>* sptr, argument_type ref) { // Code if the template is T& } }; template<typename T> struct PushImpl<const T*> { typedef T* result_type; typedef const T* argument_type; template<int StackSize> static result_type Push(IStack<StackSize>* sptr, argument_type ptr) { return PushImpl<const T&>::Push(sptr, *ptr); } }; template<typename T> struct PushImpl { typedef T* result_type; typedef const T& argument_type; template<int StackSize> static result_type Push(IStack<StackSize>* sptr, argument_type ref) { // Code if the template is neither T* nor T& } }; template<typename T> typename PushImpl<T>::result_type Push(typename PushImpl<T>::argument_type ref) { return PushImpl<T>::Push(this, ref); } First: The struct is nested inside another class (the one that offers Push as a member func), but it can't access the template parameter (StackSize), even though my other nested classes all could. I've worked around it, but it would be cleaner if they could just access StackSize like a normal class. Second: The compiler complains that it doesn't use or can't deduce T. Really? Thirdly: The compiler complains that it can't specialize a template in the current scope (class scope). I can't see what the problem is. Have I accidentally invoked some bad syntax?

  • Inline instantiation of a constant List

    - by Roflcoptr
    I try to do something like this: public const List<String> METRICS = new List<String>() { SourceFile.LOC, SourceFile.MCCABE, SourceFile.NOM, SourceFile.NOA, SourceFile.FANOUT, SourceFile.FANIN, SourceFile.NOPAR, SourceFile.NDC, SourceFile.CALLS }; But unfortunately this doesn't work: FileStorer.METRICS' is of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List<string>'. A const field of a reference type other than string can only be initialized with null. How can I solve this problem?

  • Ant: project dependencies in a flat project layout with ivy

    - by MH
    Hello, I have two (Eclipse-) projects. Project A depends on project B, but the projects aren't nested i.e. project A is not a subproject of project B. Apache Ivy is responsible for the dependency management. When I run the compile task in Project A, is there any way to trigger the compile task (in project B) automatically (for example if the jar file of project B doesn't exist)? Thanks a million in advance.

  • How can I position some divs inside an unordered list so they line up with the root element of the l

    - by Ronedog
    I want to position all the divs to line up to the left on the same x coordinate so it looks nice. Notice the picture below, how based on the number of nested categories the div (and its contents) show up at slightly different x coordinates. I need to have the div's line up at exactly the same x coordinate no matter how deeply nested. Note, the bottom most category always has a div for the content, but that div has to be situated inside the last < li . I am using an unordered list to display the menu and thought the best solution would be to grab the root category (Cat 2, and mCat1) and obtain their left offset using jquery, then simply use that value to update the positioning of the div...but I couldn't seem to get it to work just right. I would appreciate any advice or help that you are willing to give. Heres the HTML <ul id="nav> <li>Cat 2 <ul> <li>sub cat2</li> </ul> </li> <li>mCat1 <ul> <li>Subcat A <ul> <li>Subcat A.1 <ul> <li>Annie</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> Heres some jquery I tried (I have do insert the div inside this .each() loop in order to retrieve some values, but basically, this selector is grabbing the last < li in the menu tree and placing a div after it and that is the div that I want to position. the 245 value was something I was playing around with to see how I could get things to line up, and I know its out of wack, but the problem is still the same no matter what I do: $("#nav li:not(:has(li))").each(function () { var self = $(this); var position = self.offset(); var xLeft = Math.round(position.left)- 245; console.log("xLeft:", xLeft ); self.after( '<div id="' + self.attr('p_node') + '_p_cont_div" class="property_position" style="display:none; left:' + xLeft + 'px;" /> ' ); }); Heres the css: .property_position{ float:left; position: relative; top: 0px; padding-top:5px; padding-bottom:10px; }

  • Copy protection tool to limit number of units

    - by Jonathan Harris
    I have written a winform application to manage a certain type of project. I want to charge my users on a per project basis, e.g. they purchase a base version of my app to manage 3 projects for 300$ and can buy extensions for 100$ per project. Do you know of any good tools that support this type of licensing? Currently the project counter is buried in the database, but I am looking for something more reliable.

  • Can't make my WCF extension work

    - by Sergio Romero
    I have a WCF solution that consists of the following class libraries: Exercise.Services: Contains the implementation classes for the services. Exercise.ServiceProxy: Contains the classes that are instantiated in the client. Exercise.HttpHost: Contains the services (*.svc files). I'm calling the service from a console application and the "first version" works really well so I took the next step which is to create a custom ServiceHostFactory, ServiceHost, and InstanceProvider so I can use constructor injection in my services as it is explained in this article. These classes are implemented in yet another class library: 4. Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension Now even though I've modified my service this: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Debug="true" Factory="Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension.StructureMapServiceHostFactory" Service="Exercise.Services.PurchaseOrderService" %> I always get the following exception: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException Security negotiation failed because the remote party did not send back a reply in a timely manner. This may be because the underlying transport connection was aborted. It fails in this line of code: public class PurchaseOrderProxy : ClientBase<IPurchaseOrderService>, IPurchaseOrderService { public PurchaseOrderResponse CreatePurchaseOrder(PurchaseOrderRequest purchaseOrderRequest) { return base.Channel.CreatePurchaseOrder(purchaseOrderRequest); //Fails here } } But that is not all, I added a trace to the web.config file and this is the error that appears in the log file: System.InvalidOperationException The service type provided could not be loaded as a service because it does not have a default (parameter-less) constructor. To fix the problem, add a default constructor to the type, or pass an instance of the type to the host. So this means that my ServiceHostFactory is never being hit, I even set a breakpoint in both its constructor and its method and they never get hit. I've added a reference of the StructureMapWcfExtension library to all the other ones (even the console client), one by one to no avail. I also tried to use the option in the host's web.config file to configure the factory like so: <serviceHostingEnvironment> <serviceActivations> <add service="Exercise.Services.PurchaseOrderService" relativeAddress="PurchaseOrderService.svc" factory="Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension.StructureMapServiceHostFactory"/> </serviceActivations> </serviceHostingEnvironment> That didn't work either. Please I need help in getting this to work so I can incorporate it to our project. Thank you. UPDATE: Here's the service host factory's code: namespace Exercise.StructureMapWcfExtension { public class StructureMapServiceHostFactory : ServiceHostFactory { private readonly Container Container; public StructureMapServiceHostFactory() { Container = new Container(); new ContainerConfigurer().Configure(Container); } protected override ServiceHost CreateServiceHost(Type serviceType, Uri[] baseAddresses) { return new StructureMapServiceHost(Container, serviceType, baseAddresses); } } public class ContainerConfigurer { public void Configure(Container container) { container.Configure(r => r.For<IPurchaseOrderFacade>().Use<PurchaseOrderFacade>()); } } }

  • Calling method after view has loaded

    - by iamdadude
    My iPhone app allows for users to type in their usernames and passwords so that they can login. When they login once, their usernames and passwords are saved so that users don't have to type it in again. My problem is, when the app starts again, it immediately starts logging them in, leaving the interface completely black. How would I go about calling my login method AFTER all the UI methods are loaded?

  • Purpose of Explicit Default Constructors

    - by Dennis Zickefoose
    I recently noticed a class in C++0x that calls for an explicit default constructor. However, I'm failing to come up with a scenario in which a default constructor can be called implicitly. It seems like a rather pointless specifier. I thought maybe it would disallow Class c; in favor of Class c = Class(); but that does not appear to be the case. Some relevant quotes from the C++0x FCD, since it is easier for me to navigate [similar text exists in C++03, if not in the same places] 12.3.1.3 [class.conv.ctor] A default constructor may be an explicit constructor; such a constructor will be used to perform default-initialization or value initialization (8.5). It goes on to provide an example of an explicit default constructor, but it simply mimics the example I provided above. 8.5.6 [decl.init] To default-initialize an object of type T means: — if T is a (possibly cv-qualified) class type (Clause 9), the default constructor for T is called (and the initialization is ill-formed if T has no accessible default constructor); 8.5.7 [decl.init] To value-initialize an object of type T means: — if T is a (possibly cv-qualified) class type (Clause 9) with a user-provided constructor (12.1), then the default constructor for T is called (and the initialization is ill-formed if T has no accessible default constructor); In both cases, the standard calls for the default constructor to be called. But that is what would happen if the default constructor were non-explicit. For completeness sake: 8.5.11 [decl.init] If no initializer is specified for an object, the object is default-initialized; From what I can tell, this just leaves conversion from no data. Which doesn't make sense. The best I can come up with would be the following: void function(Class c); int main() { function(); //implicitly convert from no parameter to a single parameter } But obviously that isn't the way C++ handles default arguments. What else is there that would make explicit Class(); behave differently from Class();? The specific example that generated this question was std::function [20.8.14.2 func.wrap.func]. It requires several converting constructors, none of which are marked explicit, but the default constructor is.

  • ContentPresenter changing Foreground unexpectedly depending on where styles are located

  • Spring/RMI server error

    - by 4herpsand7derpsago
    We have a Spring MVC web app (WAR) deploying to Tomcat (6.0.35) that launches a thread inside a separate JVM at deploy time (don't ask why - not my design) and then communicates with that thread via RMI over port 8888. Despite being totally convoluded, this was working perfectly fine up until yesterday, and now the thread is failing at startup and despite our best efforts to add logging into the mix, we are hitting a wall. This is the only exception we are able to find in the logs: Jun 12, 2012 3:11:36 AM com.ourapp.ImageController destroy SEVERE: Shutdown Error: Lookup of RMI stub failed; nested exception is java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: localhost; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused Jun 12, 2012 3:11:37 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext listenerStop SEVERE: Exception sending context destroyed event to listener instance of class org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/springframework/web/context/ContextCleanupListener at org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener.contextDestroyed(ContextLoaderListener.java:80) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStop(StandardContext.java:3973) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.stop(StandardContext.java:4577) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.checkResources(HostConfig.java:1165) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.check(HostConfig.java:1271) at org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig.lifecycleEvent(HostConfig.java:296) at org.apache.catalina.util.LifecycleSupport.fireLifecycleEvent(LifecycleSupport.java:119) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.backgroundProcess(ContainerBase.java:1337) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.processChildren(ContainerBase.java:1601) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.processChildren(ContainerBase.java:1610) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase$ContainerBackgroundProcessor.run(ContainerBase.java:1590) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:662) Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.web.context.ContextCleanupListener at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1387) at org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader.loadClass(WebappClassLoader.java:1233) ... 12 more The ImageController is the Spring MVC Controller that is responsible for kicking off this daemon/spawned RMI thread. Based on the verbage of this error, does anybody have any idea what might be causing this "connection refused" error? Running a netstat -an | grep 8888 (this is a Linux machine) produces no output which means nothing is listening on that port. Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions that lead to a fix. Edit: Here's another ConnectionException we're seeing: Caused by: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:351) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:213) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:200) at java.net.SocksSocketImpl.connect(SocksSocketImpl.java:366) at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:529) at java.net.Socket.connect(Socket.java:478) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:375) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:189) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIDirectSocketFactory.createSocket(RMIDirectSocketFactory.java:22) at sun.rmi.transport.proxy.RMIMasterSocketFactory.createSocket(RMIMasterSocketFactory.java:128) at sun.rmi.transport.tcp.TCPEndpoint.newSocket(TCPEndpoint.java:595) ... 74 more
