  • The standard map/associative-array structure to use in flash actionscript 3?

    I'm relatively new to flash, and is confused about what I should use to store and retrieve key value pairs. After some googling I've found various map-like things to choose from: 1) Use a Object: var map:Object = new Object(); map["key"] = "value"; The problem is that it seems to lack some very basic features. For example to even get the size of map I'd have to write a util method. 2) Use a Dictionary What does this standard library class provide over the simple object? It seems silly for it to exist if it's functionally identical to Object. 3) Go download some custom HashMap/HashTable implementation from the web. I've used a lot of modern languages, and this is the first time I haven't been able to find a library implementation of an associative array within 5 minutes. So I'd like to get some best-practice advice from an experienced flash developer. Thanks!

    I have an arraylist that holds a subset of names found in my database. I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc. Can someone help me how I might set up an sql statement to handle this. I think somehow I have to pass the subset of names to sql somehow.

I created one MySQL table having columns like- User_id , level, super_id, child1_id, child2_id, child3_id, child4_id, child5_id my question is How can I get all child-user(child to child also) of a particular user at any level do I need to add some more columns in my table??

    Hey, i have question related to CoreData. My iphone project has 2 Entities, Organisation and Brand with a 1 to many "BrandsToOrg" relationship and inverse. So my project has a Mapview, where you can see all the Organisations and a little subview when you click on those Organisations.At the subview there is a "show Brands" Button, which should init a new TableView who only shows the brands belong to the seleceted organisation.   • Font Size Based on Char or Number Data

    I am trying to find a way to display numerical digits as a larger font size than chars on a website (not my idea!). The reason for this is to make the numbers stand out. I have looked for a font that would satisfy this without coding but I could not find any. Also, I don't want to slow down the website by having the font coverted to an image. Does anyone have a solution to this ridiculous problem?

    I heard that Windows 7 restricts access to its registry, so that applications cannot write directly to it. Is this so? I am developing an application in C#, and I would like to be able to save things such as port settings, last file used, etc. between sessions.     I am trying to determine a hash function which takes an input (i, k) and determines a unique solution. The possible inputs for (i, k) range from 0 to 100. Consider each (i, k) as a position of a node in a trinomial tree. Ex: (0, 0) can diverge to (1, 1) (1, 0) (1, -1). (1, 1) can diverge to (2, 2) (2, 1) (2, 0).     I have a combobox that is bound to a an instance of a class. I need to get the user's selection ID of the combobox and set a class property equal to it.     Hi all! Hopefully you can help me with this. I've displayed an Announcement web part on a page with 20 items. I opened up SharePoint Designer 2007 and set the paging to 6 items. I've added a little bit of (OOB) functionality so that I have buttons for START, PREVIOUS, and NEXT. These work well without any problems but I'm wondering how do I get END to work? I tried using the $LastRow & $RealLastRow values supplied by the web part but those just give me the number of how many items are in the current view, not the total items in the list. Little help!

    Hi, I have a very large table with over 1000 records and 200 columns. When I try to retreive records matching some criteria in the WHERE clause using SELECT statement it takes a lot of time. But most of the time I just want to select a single record that matches the criteria in the WHERE clause rather than all the records. I guess there should be a way to select just a single record and exit which would minimize the retrieval time. I tried ROWNUM=1 in the WHERE clause but it didn't really work cause I guess the engine still checks all the records even after finding the first record matching the WHERE criteria. Is there a way to optimize in case if I want to select just a few records? Thanks in advance. Edit: I am using oracle 10g.
