  • IoC / Dependency Injection - please explain code versus XML

    I understand basically how IoC frameworks work, however one thing I don't quite get is how code-based config is supposed to work. With XML I understand how you could add a new assembly to a deployed application, then change the config in XML to include it. If the application is already deployed (i.e., compiled in some form) then how can code changes be made without recompiling? Or is that what people do, just change config in code and recompile?

    Hi, in Java I think it is possible to cruise through jar files like they were not compressed. Is there some similar (and portable) thing in C/C++ ? I would like to import binary data into memory from a large (zipped or similar) file without decompressing to disk first and afterwards writing to disk in a compressed way. Maybe some trick with shell pipes and the zip utility?

    I understand that double locking in Java is broken, so what are the best ways to make Singletons Thread Safe in Java?     Weird error and this is driving me crazy all the day. To me it seems a bug because there are no positional parameters in my query. This wont go well since some columns in some of my grids will be arranged differently along with other problems.     Hi. I'm building a location aware mobile application which uses GPS, but i'd like to be able to add cell location too. The best thing I have found so far is to use Google Gears, which has a location API available, but my application is not web based. Are there any good public cell id databases that can be accessed from any kind of application? I have found a few interesting projects out there like OpenCellID, but the database is very poor right now.

    XmlElement has an "Order" attribute which you can use to specify the precise order of your properties (in relation to each other anyway) when serializing using XmlSerializer. Is there a similar thing for XmlAttribute? I just want to set the order of the attributes from something like <MyType end="bob" start="joe" /> to <MyType start="joe" end="bob" /> This is just for readability, my own benefit really.

    I have a dynamically generated rss feed that is about 150M in size (don't ask) The problem is that it keeps crapping out sporadically and there is no way to monitor it without downloading the entire feed to get a 200 status. Pingdom times out on it and returns a 'down' error. So my question is, how do I check that this thing is up and running

  • php adding images to another image, exact positioning

    I have a cool snippet of code that works well, except one thing. The code will take an icon I want to add to an existing picture. I can position it where I want too! Which is exactly what I need to do. However, I'm stuck on one thing, concerning the placement. The code "starting position" (on the main image: navIcons.png) is from the Bottom Right. I have 2 variables: $move_left = 10; & $move_up = 8;. So, the means I can position the icon.png 10px left, and 8px up, from the bottom right corner. I really really want to start the positioning from the Top Left of the image, so I'm really moving the icon 10px right & 8px down, from the top left position of the main image. For those who are wondering why I'd even bother doing this. In a nutshell, I like to add 16x16 icons to 1 single image, while using css to display that individual icon. This does involve me downloading the image (sprite) and open photoshop, add the new icon (positioning it), and reuploading it to the server. Not a massive ordeal, but just having fun with php.
