  • Turkish characters are not displayed correctly

  • Stored proc executes >30 secs when called from website, but <1 sec when called from ssms

    I have a stored procedure that is called by a website to display data. Today the web page has started timing out so I got profiler going and saw the query that was taking too long. I then ran the same query in management studio, under the same user login, and it takes less than a second to return. Is there anything obvious that could be causing this? I can't think of a reason why when ASP calls the stored proc it takes 30 secs but when I call it it's fine. Thanks

  • Is it a good idea to define a variable in a local block for a case of a switch statement?

    I have a rather long switch-case statement. Some of the cases are really short and trivial. A few are longer and need some variables that are never used anywhere else, like this: switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: { int specialVariable = 5; // Do something complex with specialVariable } break; } The alternative would be to declare that variable before going into the switch like this: int specialVariable = 5; switch (action) { case kSimpleAction: // Do something simple break; case kComplexAction: // Do something complex with specialVariable break; } This can get rather confusing since it is not clear to which case the variable belongs and it uses some unnecessary memory. However, I have never seen this usage anywhere else. Do you think it is a good idea to declare variables locally in a block for a single case?

  • Get Python 2.7's 'json' to not throw an exception when it encounters random byte strings

    Trying to encode a a dict object into json using Python 2.7's json (ie: import json). The object has some byte strings in it that are "pickled" data using cPickle, so for json's purposes, they are basically random byte strings. I was using django.utils's simplejson and this worked fine. But I recently switched to Python 2.7 on google app engine and they don't seem to have simplejson available anymore. Now that I am using json, it throws an exception when it encounters bytes that aren't part of UTF-8. The error that I'm getting is: UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0x80 in position 0: invalid start byte It would be nice if it printed out a string of the character codes like the debugging might do, ie: \u0002]q\u0000U\u001201. But I really don't much care how it handles this data just as long as it doesn't throw an exception and continues serializing the information that it does recognize. How can I make this happen?     Question: In the path HUDSON_HOME/jobs/<jobname>/builds/<timestamp>/workspace-files, there are a series of .tmp files. What are these files, and what feature of Hudson do they support? Background Using Hudson version 1.341, we have a continuous build task that runs on a slave instance. After the build is otherwise complete, including archiving the artifacts, task scanner, etc., the job appears to hang for a long period of time. In monitoring the master node, I noted that many .tmp files were being created and modified under builds//workspace=files, and that some of them were very large. This appears to be causing the delay, as the job completed at the same time that files in this path stopped changing. Some key configuration points of the job: It is tied to a specific slave node It builds in a 'custom workspace' It triggers a downstream job that builds in the same custom workspace on the same slave node

  • JQuery post to php

    Why is it that I can never get JQuery serialize to work properly. I guess I must be missing something. I can serialize a form data and it shows in an alert: var forminfo = $j('#frmuserinfo').serialize(); alert(forminfo); I then post to my PHP page thus: $j.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "cv-user-process.php", data: "forminfo="+forminfo, cache: false, complete: function(data) { } }); But WHENEVER (not the first time) I try to insert/update the data in the DB I only ever get 1 varaible passed: Here is my PHP script: $testit = mysql_query("UPDATE cv_usersmeta SET inputtest='".$_POST['forminfo']."' WHERE user='X'"); the data passed only ever gets the first variable. why? I think it is more the way I deal with the php but it drives me nuts and always takes me far too long to find where I am going wrong.

    I have a company that would like to bring me in to serve me an hour long exam. No resources other than a pencil and paper. I really couldn't get any sort of feedback on the type of exam (implementation or generic) beside that it would test a few specific areas. Have you done anything like this? What sort of questions did they ask? What's a good way to prepare? I'll probably go in a couple weeks before school starts back up. A time sensitive exam structure is a weak point for me, so what should I absolutely focus down on? If they like the exam, that's when I'll get a face-to-face meeting.     I have a program that has items with 3 attributes. Name(String) : Count(String) : Amount(String) Currently I am writing the database when someone is trying to access a section then reading from the database. The writing is taking too long. So my question is how can I perhaps create a nested array where I can say if name = carrot then print carrot['count'] and carrot['amount']. I am very new to Java so some sample code would be great. Or any other suggestions that you may have as far as tackling this issue.

  • PHP - MySQL - Select runs indefinitely

    I have three tables listings: id, pid, beds, baths, etc, etc, etc, db locations: id, pid, zip, lat, lon, etc, etc, etc, db images id, pid, height, width, raw, etc, etc, db id, pid & db are indexed. db just references the mls provider a particular item came from. in images the raw column holds raw image data there are about 15k rows in listings/locations, and about 120k rows in images so there are multiple rows that have the same pid. when i do "select pid from listings" or "select pid from locations" the query completes successfully in about 100ms. when i do "select pid from images" it just hangs in sqlyog and never completes... i was thinking since the raw column contains alot of information that it might be trying to select that too, but my query doesn't try to select that so I can't imagine why it's taking so long... any idea why this is happening??

    I have a div fading in using fadeTo. It works great in Firefox and IE9. It does not work in IE8.   • Where and how to store functions in asp.net.vb

I am using visual studio 2008, asp.net.vb I have various functions; 1 that calculates totals, 1 that calculates averages, 1 that calculates percentages etc. The data they act upon is different depending on the particular web page, but all my pages use these functions. So I want to know how I can store these functions in a single place so that all of my web pages can access the routines. At the moment all I know how to do is to write seperate functions in the code-behind for each individual web page. Obviously that is just so long winded and inefficient, but try as I might I can't figure out how to do it better. Please can anyone help. Many thanks.

    I have a VS2010 (RTM) solution which contains: WCF Service project Console WCF client project Class project for DataContracts and members Class project for some simple classes I successfully added a service reference in the console client project and ran the client. I then did a long dev cycle repeatedly modifying the service then updating console service reference. I then changed the namespace and assembly names for the projects as well as the .cs using references and app.config. I of course missed some things as it would not build so I eventually removed the project references and the service reference, cleaned and built successfully. I then attempted to add the service reference again, it discovered it but threw the “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” when OK'ing. Fix in answer below...

    Read this on the oracle docs java.lang page: Frequently it is necessary to represent a value of primitive type as if it were an object. The wrapper classes Boolean, Character, Integer, Long, Float, and Double serve this purpose. I'm not sure I understand why these are needed. It says they have useful functions such as equals(). But if I can do (a==b), why would I ever want to declare them as Integer, use more memory and use equals()? How does the memory usage differ for the 2?

    Prety long question; How can I do the following in C#: Open a webpage (Prefferably not visible) Check whether the page redirects to a different page (Site is down, 404, etc.) Check if the title is not equal to a said string Then seperately, (They need to click a confirm button) open their browser, and go to the adress of the first (It'll be the only one) hyperlink on the site. I literally have been looking on google for ages and haven't found anything similar to what I need. Whether you give me a link to a site with a tutorial on this area of programming or actual source code doesn't make a difference to me.

  • Developing a high-performance, scalable Comet application

    Well, the title says most of it. I'm looking to develop a chat application that will hopefully become something more, and currently I'm considering my options for what I should build it on top of. I've taken a look at Tornado with Redis as my primary option - Tornado, being a Comet server, is perfect for long polling to retrieve the messages on Redis, which I have the intention of using as both a persistent data store, as well as a message queue with its nifty subpub features. However, I've also heard good things about Django, RabbitMQ, MongoDB and Orbited. JavaScript isn't a big problem for me, so Orbited's JavaScript support isn't too much of a boon. Really, I'd probably be happy to develop on the route I've chosen for myself, but if there are any gaping deficiencies in my plan, I'd like some kind person to point them out before I find I've wasted months on this.

  • BASH Script to cd to directory with spaces in pathname

    Argggg. I've been struggling with this stupid problem for days and I can't find an answer. I'm using BASH on Mac OS X and I'd like to create a simple executable script file that would change to another directory when it's run. However, the path to that directory has spaces in it. How the heck do you do this? This is what I have... Name of file: cdcode File contents: cd ~/My Code Now granted, this isn't a long pathname, but my actual pathname is five directories deep and four of those directories have spaces in the path. BTW, I've tried cd "~/My Code" and cd "~/My\ Code" and neither of these worked. If you can help, THANKS! This is driving me crazy!!

    I was long using this to add a glow to focused fields, I accessed my page from Firefox for the first time and realized it doesn't work on it, and most likely not on explorer either. border: 1px solid #E68D29; outline-color: -webkit-focus-ring-color; outline-offset: -2px; outline-style: auto; outline-width: 5px; I had copy pasted it from another page so I'm not quite sure how it works. What is the equivalent for Firefox or Explorer? I mean how do I make a similar glow in other browsers? Thanks

As far as I see from assembler listing, generated by compiler it is implemented as a plain load on x86, however plain loads as far as I know guaranteed to have acquire semantics, while plain stores are guaranteed to have release. Sequentially-consistent store is implemented as locked xchg, while load as plain load. That sounds strange to me, could you please explain this in details? added Just found in internet, that sequentially-consistent atomic load could be done as simple mov as long as store is done with locked xchg, but there was no prove and no links to documentation. Do you know where can I read about that? Thanks in advance.

  • Is my way of doing threads in Android correct?

    Hi, I'm writing a live wallpaper, and I'm forking off two separate threads in my main wallpaper service. One updates, and the other draws. I was under the impression that once you call thread.start(), it took care of everything for you, but after some trial and error, it seems that if I want my update and draw threads to keep running, I have to manually keep calling their run() methods? In other words, instead of calling start() on both threads and forgetting, I have to manually set up a delayed handler event that calls thread.run() on both the update and draw threads every 16 milliseconds. Is this the correct way of having a long running thread? Also, to kill threads, I'm just setting them to be daemons, then nulling them out. Is this method ok? Most examples I see use some sort of join() / interrupt() in a while loop...I don't understand that one...
