• sequentially-consistent atomic load on x86

  Hello all, I'm interested in sequentially-consistent load operation on x86. As far as I see from assembler listing, generated by compiler it is implemented as a plain load on x86, however plain loads as far as I know guaranteed to have acquire semantics, while plain stores are guaranteed to have release. Sequentially-consistent store is implemented as locked xchg, while load as plain load. That sounds strange to me, could you please explain this in details? added Just found in internet, that sequentially-consistent atomic load could be done as simple mov as long as store is done with locked xchg, but there was no prove and no links to documentation. Do you know where can I read about that? Thanks in advance.

• How do I test against a large number of regular expressions quickly and know which one matched?

  I'm writing a program in .net where the user may provide a large number of regular expressions. For a given string, I need to figure out which regular expression matches that string (if more than one matches, I just need the first one that matches). However, if there are a large number of regular expressions this operation can take a very long time. I was somewhat hoping there would be something similar to flex for .net that would allow me to specify a large number of regular expressions yet quickly (O(n) according to Wikipedia for n = len(input string)) figure out which regular expression matches. Also, I would prefer not to implement my own regular expression engine :).

  I have a jQuery UI autocomplete (with custom styling) where I added an header. You can see it at work here: http://jsfiddle.net/fbonomi/wJWGV/ the header is added like this: function cComboboxOpen( event) { var s='.... header .....'; $("ul.ui-autocomplete[style*='block']").prepend(s); } it works, and it keeps the column-like form I need (the real data will also be in columns) BUT, I would like to have the header NOT scrolling away when you have a long, scrollable list (e.g if you type "a" in the list) I have seen another very similar question here: jQuery UI Autocomplete with fixed header But it hasn't been answered, and in its current form it does not work properly (the header is "fixed" even when one scrolls the page, for example) How can I avoid the header to scroll away?

• What's the difference between Path and Polygon control? + issues when designing custom drawing user

  I'm starting to design a custom control with rather complex drawing. It will be a kind of chart (a kind of radar chart). It will be composed of a few axises with labels, line-regions (like spider-network) and filled shapes. The main question is what's the difference between using Path control and Polygon control? What's better to use here? The goal is to prepare control with minimal amount of c# and try to do as much as possible in xaml / binding. The next important requirement is that control should resize to parent containers' width - if possible without any long recalulations in c#.

• C++ - defining static const integer members in class definition

  My understanding is that C++ allows static const members to be defined inside a class so long as it's an integer type. Why, then, does the following code give me a linker error? #include <algorithm> #include <iostream> class test { public: static const int N = 10; }; int main() { std::cout << test::N << "\n"; std::min(9, test::N); } The error I get is: test.cpp:(.text+0x130): undefined reference to `test::N' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status Interestingly, if I comment out the call to std::min, the code compiles and links just fine (even though test::N is also referenced on the previous line). Any idea as to what's going on? My compiler is gcc 4.4 on Linux.

• Looking at the C++ new[] cookie. How portable is this code?

  I came up with this as a quick solution to a debugging problem - I have the pointer variable and its type, I know it points to an array of objects allocated on the heap, but I don't know how many.   This is what I have in my schema section of my WSDL to specify the field has to be comparison operators <xsd:simpleType> <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string"> <xsd:pattern value="&lt;|&gt;|&lt;=|&gt;=|="/> </xsd:restriction> </xsd:simpleType> SoapUI complains about this part of the WSDL, I tried to set the value to something with non special characters and the WSDL is valid. So I tried to replace that whole long string to be value=">gt;" and it valid but value="<lt;" is not valid, and value=">" is also not valid. My question is, why does the WSDL validation need > to be double escaped? The main question is, how to provide a valid less than side within the pattern value.

  I am looking for a tool, which helps me to organize my personal bookmarks. I want to be able to assign tags and free comments to a bookmark. I want to search my bookmarks by tags date of bookmarking pattern in title pattern in url It would be nice to be web based to enable sharing my bookmarks between different machines. But for it would be OK, if it works on a single machine as long as it has some import/export way to transfer the links to a new machine replacing the old. As browsers I'm using Firefox and ChromePlus. It would be nice, if the solution works with both browsers. With free comments, I mean additional remarks stored for a bookmark, which is not essential for searching.

• Track each URL and Parameters sent from Form

  Simple question really for anyone who's been through this: I have a form that I'm placing on a site. This form submits some parameters to a site which then sends some parameters using "GET" to another site, which then opens the third site. Now the first 2 sites pass so quickly that I can not see what parameters were passed using the URL. I can do a manual check using source code but its too long and complex. I just need a simple tool or hint or firefox addon on how to track every single URL (wven if it has a META redirect) so I can read parameters being sent via the form. Thanks

So we got away from it after thousands of internet blogs about the box-model hack. Now we get box-sizing, which will, wait for it, allow you to specify that a width contains the border, the margin, and the padding. We plaster a trendy new name for it, "CSS3 Flexbox," and now it's the freedom designers have been looking for. For those logical people who saw the box-model bug as not the bug and the W3C as the actual bug, this comes as a surprise. A reintroduction of this so-called bug and now we call it an enhancement? So can someone explain why this is different? I am honestly confused about this.

I dread having to deal with HTML, JavaScript etc. to build a high quality browser based user interface. I've got the full suite of Telerik controls. Is it possible to build a polished, somewhat feature rich browser UI while being sheltered from the archaic environment of HTML and JavaScript? • Regular Expression; Find whether a line contains any word with more than X characters.

  Hi, I am trying to use a Validator on a ASP.NET site and need to find whether the Street Address textbox contains a valid entry. Entries with words that are longer than X characters (in this case 25, with no punctuation or spaces) will cause the HTML on a printed A4 page to not wrap properly and therefore not to confrom to certain sizes correctly pushing the margins off. For a street address I want to match that something like "201 Long Road" is valid but "235 ReallyLongAndNarrowWindingRoadBesideTheRiver Street" is invalid. Using a Microsoft .Net Regular Expression Validator I need to know what the RegEx pattern might be. I think if it does find a match the Validator will fire correctly however if there is no match the Validator won't fire and the Update button (in this case) won't fire. Since Street addresses can contain Capital Letters and numbers etc. it will need to accomodate for that and also Spaces, Commas, Semi-Colons and Colons and Hyphens are valid characters too. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am really stuck with this problem. Thanks, David

• convert int into string with certain length of char

  If the title wasn't clear, ill try to explain it well here. I have a bunch of integers, ranging from 1 to 999, and i need to convert these into strings, but when i do that, i need them to be 3 characters long. so for instance, if i had: int i1 = 45; then when i turned that into a string, i'd need this: "045" or similarly, if i had an int of 8 then that would have to turn into "008", and if anything had 3 places, such as 143, then it would just be outputted as 143. is this easily possible? Thanks for responses in advance. :)

  I know that is a very embracing question, but I have just started with Ruby on Rails, and still have a long way with CSS and HTML. There are lots of books about CSS and HTML patterns, but I would like to know what is really applied to actual webpages. For example, what's the best way of doing a simple webpage with a lateral menu, a logo on the top, and some text below? Ok, it seems stupid, but there's lot of ways of doing that, or not ?   Question: When I convert the IP address 192.168.115.67 to a number, is it done like this: 192*256^3 + 168*256^2+115*256^1+67*256^0 = 3232265027 or like this: 192*256^0 + 168*256^1+115*256^2+67*256^3 = 1131653312 I find both variants online, and frankly it doesn't matter as long as reverse it according to the conversion process. But I want to calculate the IP V6 from the IPv4 address, and it seems both variants are on the web... resulting in different IPv6 addresses, and only one can be correct... I use the 1131653312 variant, as 1131653312 is the variant .NET gives me, but 3232265027 is the variant I find on the web for IPv4 to IPv6 conversion...

It seems that Hibernate uses the value returned by the sequence hosted by my Oracle database, but then modify it before assigning it to my entity...

  Yea this is a dumb question... However in both of my C++ classes we did not do this at all (except for native libraries: iostream, iomanip, etc.)... My question is can anyone provide a link that gives the general explanation of adding libraries to C++? I do realize what what #include means; it's just I have no clue on the linker/directories in a C++ IDE. So long question short; could I get a general explanation of terms used to link libraries in C++? I'm using c::b w/ MinGW.

  I am looking for way to setup FormPanel that labels will be aligned left on left side (this is default) and field aligned rigth on right side - they are aligned left... how long I am dealing with DisplayField, TextField, or NumberField adding ctCls: 'x-form-element-currency', where .x-form-element-currency { text-align: right; } do the work and is nicely aligned to right My problem start when I try to do this same with radiogroup element (I want to have Yes-No radio select) ctCls: what adding class to the correct (in my opinion) container abowe radiogroup does not make aligment... When I do a sizeof() of this struct: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("SizeOf(NetPoint)=" + System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.SizeOf(new NetPoint())); The debug console shows: SizeOf(NetPoint)=24 But I expected to have 20 bytes. Why do I see a difference?

• Scraping html WITHOUT uniquie identifiers using python

  I would like to design an algorithm using python that scrapes thousands of pages like this one and this one, gathers all the data and inserts it into a MySQL database. The script will be run on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to update the database of any new information added to each individual page. Ideally I would like a scraper that is easy to work with for table structured data but also data that does not have unique identifiers (ie. id and classes attributes). Which scraper add-on should I use? BeautifulSoup, Scrapy or Mechanize? Are there any particular tutorials/books I should be looking at for this desired result? In the long-run I will be implementing a mobile app that works with all this data through querying the database.

I am a Java novice and ended up using BigInteger and watching out for leading hex zeros. But I think it is ugly and I am sure I am missing something simple...

• How should I build a gaming community

  I've been wanting to build my own gaming community site (like http://fragbite.com) for a long time, I have started many times but just quitted after a couple days because it gets very messy I've been palying around with php and mysql off and on for 3 years but i've never gotten in to oop. i have tried but i usually end up with the "old php". I usually build my pages like so that i include a file on top of all pages with neccasary functions, html head etc. And I mix php and html together which I dont mind but if I eventually would get a designer he would not like it i think. I have tried both phpcake and codeigniter and all those popular mvc's but its just to much, like they do all the work. i want to do it myself. but i dont know where to start. What would you do if you were me? Is there maybe some non-oop mvc? (Sorry for my english)

• Spring FactoryBean and scopes working together

  I'd like to use FactoryBeans and scopes together. Specifically, I'd like the object created and returned by a FactoryBean to be placed into a specified (perhaps custom) scope. The issue is that doing the following: <bean class="x.y.z.TestFactoryBean" scope="test" /> Results in the FactoryBean itself being scoped, and has somewhat unpredictable behaviour on the object created by the factory. I understand why this is; the factory itself is a first-class spring-managed bean, and has its own lifecycle. However, I can't find a way to specify that the object returned from the factory should itself be scoped. On the other hand, this does exactly what I want (as long as TestFactoryBean does NOT implement the FactoryBean interface): <bean class="x.y.z.TestFactoryBean" name="testFactory"> <bean class="x.y.z.TestBean" factory-bean="testFactory" factory-method="getObject" scope="test" /> So the real question is, how can I make Spring behave like it does for the 2nd example above, but using real FactoryBeans?
