I just have read some stuff on enum today. Use of flags with enum was something interesting and new for me. But often practice and theoretical uses are different. I go through many articles they examples they quoted were good to get the concept but am still wondering in what situations one can use Enums with flag to store multiple values?
Will highly appreciate if you please can share your practical experience of using enum with flags.
I am using XNA 4.0 and I wonder if drawing models with multiple meshes is better by filling the vertex and index buffers first and calling GraphicsDevice.DrawIndexedPrimitives() or by simply using good ol' foreach(...) {ModelMesh.Draw()}.
Is it possible to add data to vertex/index buffers at all in order to pack all the models on the scene in them and then call Draw only once per frame?
I would appreciate a link to an in-depth explanation.
Thanks.

I've been working with x-cart much lately, and I was thinking about using it for a much larger site, but I don't know if it can handle what I'm looking for. I need a platform or strategy that can allow for as many users as possible where each can post multiple products (hopeful up to a hundred, but that's less important), but in their own private catalogs. So what am I looking for? With x-cart, I'm used to customizing it with jquery, smarty, and php, so I can handle that much.
Tip of the Trade: If you've ever felt the need to scribble notes on your PDFs without bringing dead trees into the equation, consider the open-source software, Okular, a KDE document reader that can read multiple document formats and allows the user to annotate files as she reads.

For the last 15 years, Intel and AMD have been progressively adding special purpose extensions to their processor architectures. The extensions mostly pertain to vector operations with Single Instruction, Multiple Data (SIMD) concept. The motivation was that achieving significant performance improvement over each successive generation for the general purpose elements had become extraordinarily difficult. On the other hand, SIMD performance could be significantly improved with special purpose registers...(read more)

JHeadstart has a powerful generator for ADF Faces pages.
One of the features of the generator is the generation of search functionality into a page.
The search functionality offers a "Quicksearch" with a single search item and an "Advanced Search" for multiple search criteria.
Sometimes it would be nice to have initial values for the search criteria, but this is not supplied by JHeadstart by default.
I tried many already built Twitter clone scripts but none was having user-end functionality exactly as twitter. I know enough PHP to code all the twitter's features myself. But is there a faster way than coding myself? I've never used a CMS but if I do then won't I have to search a plugin for every twitter feature, like support for multiple users, options for following-unfollowing users, retweeting (reposting someone else's post), tagging? And I'm afraid that there might be some licensing issues with CMS.
Yii framework supports modules and also subdirectories in controllers directory, so path to some specific action could be /index.php?r=module/controller/action or /index.php?r=subdirectoryInControllerDir/controller/action. My goal here is to have multiple subdirectories in controllers dir. Inside these folders I would create Controllers with the same names as parent ones using namespaces. However if I wrote
namespace mynamespace;
class MyController extends \MyController {
}
Yii would load MyController instead of mynamespace\MyController;
Any suggestions here?

TrendMicro's Safesync has a nice feature, you can map your local folder to a folder in the cloud with a different name, e.g:
PC1:
C:\my_documents\pictures === office_pictures
c:\my_documents\docs === office_docs
PC2:
C:\my_documents\pictures === private_pictures
c:\my_documents\docs === private_docs
Would this be possible with UbuntuOne? The reason is that I have multiple computers, and I don't want all my "my_documents" folders to sync across work and personal life...
Thanks for a reply or ideas for workarounds! ;-)

I have a MMOG server running on C++, using winsockets. My server won't support more than 200 players. I had the idea of redesigning it so it will use multiple servers instead of one, so, maybe, for example, each server could take care of a number of players, and, if it was too laggy, it could transfer the responsability of that player to other server. I'm not sure of how to program a consistent game logic like that, though. Are there techniques for this?
