  • How to rewrite a TCP MMOG server designed to run in a single machine, in a distributed way?

    I have a MMOG server running on C++, using winsockets. My server won't support more than 200 players. I had the idea of redesigning it so it will use multiple servers instead of one, so, maybe, for example, each server could take care of a number of players, and, if it was too laggy, it could transfer the responsability of that player to other server. I'm not sure of how to program a consistent game logic like that, though. Are there techniques for this?

I am interested in the costs and options available to take a single book and deliver it across multiple platforms and devices without signing up for a 3rd party service. i.e I would prefer to sign up directly with apple for iBook and Amazon for kindle than using a company that does both for me. Can anyone outline the basics?

Also, some of the sources I've used are from sites where using the code is okay, but publishing the source isn't. What's the usual manner of attribution in that case, and the usual manner of making the source available in an open-source project?

Just to muddy the water further I have routines for remotely calling the DBAMessages table through a remote server to send out email from a central server!!     I am creating a game engine using the JBox2D physics engine. It only allows you to create polygon fixtures up to 8 vertices, To create a body with more than 8 vertices, you need to create multiple fixtures for the body. My question is, How can I split the polygons a user creates into smaller polygons for JBox2D? Also, what topology should I use when splitting the polygons and why? (If JBox2D can have up to 8 vertices, why not split polygons into 8 per polygon)

    Is there a reason or an explanation why functions in most(?) programming languages are designed to support any number of input parameters but only one return value? In most languages, it is possible to "work around" that limitation, e.g. by using out-parameters, returning pointers or by defining/returning structs/classes. But it seems strange, that programming languages were not designed to support multiple return values in a more "natural" way.

    I am aware that in Unity we can add world time by clicking on time bar. However, it's still a list of locations and sometimes it may be hard to quickly find the timezone of interest. Is there any tool which can put a multiple clock instances on the desktop representing each timezone of interest? Similar to the clock in Windows 7. To be more clear, I am not looking for a weather widget, but a simple clock widget so that I can track time in different timezones.
