  If you want to post to a facebook page using the Facebook Graph API and the Facebook C# SDK, from an "offline" app, there's a few steps you should be aware of. First, you need to get an access token that your windows service or app can permanently use. • Caching WCF javascript proxy on browser

  When you use WCF services from Javascript, you have to generate the Javascript proxies by hitting the Service.svc/js. If you have five WCF services, then it means five javascripts to download. As browsers download javascripts synchronously, one after another, it adds latency to page load and slows down page rendering performance. Moreover, the same WCF service proxy is downloaded from every page, because the generated javascript file is not cached on browser. Here is a solution that will ensure the generated Javascript proxies are cached on browser and when there is a hit on the service, it will respond with HTTP 304 if the Service.svc file has not changed. Here’s a Fiddler trace of a page that uses two WCF services. You can see there are two /js hits and they are sequential. Every visit to the same page, even with the same browser session results in making those two hits to /js. Second time when the same page is browsed: You can see everything else is cached, except the WCF javascript proxies. They are never cached because the WCF javascript proxy generator does not produce the necessary caching headers to cache the files on browser. Here’s an HttpModule for IIS and IIS Express which will intercept calls to WCF service proxy. It first checks if the service is changed since the cached version on the browser. If it has not changed then it will return HTTP 304 and not go through the service proxy generation process. Thus it saves some CPU on server. • Trying to install Canon iP7250 printer

  I'm trying to install my Canon iP7250 printer on a fresh install of 13:10 64bit. Last time I installed it successfully via http://handytutorial.com/install-canon-printer-driver-for-ubuntu-13-04-12-10-12-04 which entailed adding a repository via the terminal and then updating it. I then opened Synaptic and searched for my printer model and Synaptic then installed everything. This time round I added the repositories but the update failed with the following error: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gru...amd64/Packages 404 Not Found Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/michael-gru...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. An internet search failed to find another way of installing this printer so I'm stuck. My laptop also runs 64 bit 13:10 and the printer works, as I installed it months ago. Is there any way I can take something off that to use on this new machine? Thank you all in advance P.S. I have just found and downloaded the official Canon driver from the Canon website and extracted it, but I don't know how to install it.

• Since a few days, Dropbox stopped syncing

  Theres a new problem with nautilus-dropbox and is the worst for a service like Dropbox: stopped syncing and their tech support don't believe their users. The problem is: start dropbox it downloads index creates folders start to download files stop downloading files or the speed is like 0.3k/seg even deleting everything doesn't work, even syncing a single folder with a few files, not even configuring a different limit speed or let all your bandwith, nothing works for me and i have found many users with the same problem. it's strange, i have two computers with ubuntu 14.04 and one with windows 7, and in one of the linux machines it works fine, but not in the other one. Both of them are x64. The answers from the tech support starts with "delete everything and reinstall" to "you may be blocking port 443", yeah, sure (and if i do that half of internet dissapears, idiot), but nothing works. Someone has some idea? i cant find any log file (at least a text log file like in /var/log) to understand what is dropbox doing and what is not working. • #mvvmlight V4 update for Win8 RTM

  With Windows 8 RTM out of the doors (at least for some of us), it was also time to create an update to MVVM Light. I selected the V4 RTM to do this (V4.0.23).This RTM version was released a few weeks ago with no much bells and whistles because I was just too busy to write much about it. Now after some vacation, I will resume blogging on all my favorite topics including of course MVVM Light. Upgrade Upgrading the installations should not require an ununistall, so try to simply run the MSI downloaded from the Download section at http://mvvmlight.codeplex.com/. Should you encounter any issue, try to uninstall the old version first following the steps at http://galasoft.ch/mvvm/cleaning/. Upgrading current apps from Win8 RP to Win8 RTM I didn’t recompile the assemblies of MVVM Light, so if you had a version running with V4.0.23 on Windows 8 RP, you should be able to use the same DLLs on Windows 8 RTM. If you were using earlier versions however, I would recommend doing an upgrade. I noticed a warning regarding the signing certificate. It is due to the PFX key which appears to be outdated after the upgrade to Windows 8 RTM. I solved this warning by replacing the old PFX key with a new one I copied from a new project. The warning did not cause the build to fail though. About MVVM Light V4 RTM The RTM is finalizing quite a lot of issues. The change log is available at http://galasoft.ch/mvvm/installing/changes/. There are some issues that are either still open or that popped up since then, and I am working on V4.1 to be released in the next few weeks. • Need assistance matching a general theme style as well as eCommerce capability

  I'm in the process of acquiring a new design client. They are getting into the business of "auto parts wholesaling" and they want a storefront. My preference is/was to create something from scratch. However, here is an established trend in their particular market (similar parts, layout, etc). They insist on following the existing visual trend, as per the following: http://www.xtremediesel.com/ http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/ http://www.alligatorperformance.com/ My plan of attack at this point is to find a comparable WP theme and a flexible (but useful) backend/product management. Their current demo site (which their previous developer made a stab at) is using Pinnacle Cart. It is no where near what they need, nor is it intuitive to work with. I was actually considering Magento for its greater abilities but I'm still considering options. That said, my two primary dilemmas are as follows: 1) I need a theme that mimics the general style of those listed. They explicitly said they didn't want anything too clean (e.g. ThemeForest, Woothemes) as it "wasn't rugged or busy looking enough" for their field. 2) I need a WP/Magento/WP e-Commerce (or any one of a host of other) plugin that will allow for bulk import/update of nearly 200,000 products, descriptions and images. I'm not opposed to manually interfacing with the DB for import, but in the end, I need a store/system that doesn't needlessly add 50 tables to accommodate some "wet behind the ears" concept of table normalization and is easy to add to. Anyway, if anyone has any quality suggestions regarding either of these issues, it would be most appreciated. Best.

• Pythonic Java. Yes, or no?

  Python use of indentation for code scope was initially very polemic and now is considered one of the best language features, because it helps ( almost by forcing us ) to have a consistent style. Well, I saw this post http://bit.ly/hmvTe9 where someone posted Java code with ; y {} aligned to the right margin to look more pythonic. It was very shocking at first ( as a matter of fact, if I ever see Java code like that in one of my projects I would be scared! ) However, there is something interesting here. Do we need all those braces and semicolons? How would the code would look like without them? class Person int age void greet( String a ) if( a == "" ) out.println("Hello stranger") else out.printf("Hello %s%n", a ) int age() return this.age class Main void main() new Person().greet("") Looks good to me, but in such small piece of code is hard to appreciate it, and since I don't Python too much, I can't tell by looking at existing libraries if it would be cleaner or not. So I took the first file of a library named: jAlarms I found and this is the result: ( WARNING : the following image may be disturbing for some people ) http://pxe.pastebin.com/eU1R4xsh Obviously it doesn't compile. This would be a compiling version using right aligned {} and ; http://pxe.pastebin.com/2uijtbYM Question What would happen if we could code like this? Would it make things clearer? • Can't complete dropbox installation from behind proxy

  Problem: My PC on campus sits behind a proxy (requiring authentication) and I can't setup Dropbox. I am convinced that this is a proxy issue as I can't setup Ubuntu one either (but I don't use Ubuntu One so that is not a problem). I have looked at the Ubuntu One fix but it seems to be to modify settings explicitly related to Ubuntu One. I can install the nautilus-dropbox package (compiled from source and from .deb package from website and from software centre) but once I click OK from the "Dropbox Installation" dialog box (prompting me to download the proprietary daemon) the installation just freezes with the OK button pressed. When I look at its process in System Monitor its waiting channel is inet_wait_for_connect. I have set the following proxy directives thus far: Added mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80 information to network proxy settings under network in settings. Added http_host and http_port variables under gconf-editor-system-proxy Added 'host', 'authentication_password' 'authentication_user' and ticked 'user authentication' and 'use_http_proxy' under gconf-editor-system-http_proxy Added export http_proxy="http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/" to /etc/bash.bashrc Added Acquire::http::proxy "http://mj22:**@proxy.waikato.ac.nz:80/"; to /etc/apt/apt.conf (which is what I imagine is letting Software Center retrieve packages). (where ** is my password) I have also added the equivalent ftp and https lines for the above entries. I get the internet fine and Software Centre can download packages but thats it. Related issues: The software centre can't fetch reviews (but can download packages). When trying to add an online account in Gnome 3 a dialog pop up appears with "Error getting a Request Token: Cannot connect to proxy (proxy.waikato.ac.nz)" Updates: After some time (10mins ish) Dropbox shows an error dialog box that reads: Trouble connecting to Dropbox servers. Maybe your internet connection is down, or you need to set you http_proxy environment variable. Is there a way I can see what environment variables are currently set?

  I want to add content from other blogs to my own (with the authors permission) to help build additional relevant content and support articles I've found useful that others have written. I'm looking into how to do this responsibly - ie, by giving the original content author a boost and not competing against them for search traffic which should go to their site. In order to keep my duplicate content out of search, and to hint to the search engines where the original content is to be found i've implemented: <head> <meta name='robots' content='noindex, follow'> <link rel='canonical' href='http://www.originalblog.com/original-post.html' /> </head> Additionally, to boost the original article and to let readers know where it came from i'll be adding something like this: <div> Article originally written by <a href='http://www.authorswebsite.com'>Authors Name</a> and reproduced with permission.<br/> <a href='http://www.originalblog.com/original-post.html' target='new'> Read the original article here. </a> </div> All that remains is a way to 'officially' credit the original author in the HTML for the search spiders to see. Also, have I overlooked anything in the approach?

  I use Blender3D, but the answer might not API-exclusive. I have some matrices I need to assign to PoseBones. The resulting pose looks fine when there is no bone hierarchy (parenting) and messed up when there is. I've uploaded an archive with sample blend of the rigged models, text animation importer and a test animation file here: http://www.2shared.com/file/5qUjmnIs/sample_files.html Import the animation by selecting an Armature and running the importer on "sba" file. Do this for both Armatures. This is how I assign the poses in the real (complex) importer: matrix_bases = ... # matrix from file animation_matrix = matrix_basis * pose.bones['mybone'].matrix.copy() pose.bones[bonename].matrix = animation_matrix If I go to edit mode, select all bones and press Alt+P to undo parenting, the Pose looks fine again. The API documentation says the PoseBone.matrix is in "object space", but it seems clear to me from these tests that they are relative to parent bones. Final 4x4 matrix after constraints and drivers are applied (object space) I tried doing something like this: matrix_basis = ... # matrix from file animation_matrix = matrix_basis * (pose.bones['mybone'].matrix.copy() * pose.bones[bonename].bone.parent.matrix_local.copy().inverted()) pose.bones[bonename].matrix = animation_matrix But it looks worse. Experimented with order of operations, no luck with all.
