  • Wireless mouse temporarily freezes when resume from standby

    I have been getting a very annoying problem since recently in Ubuntu 12.04, probably due to another update that did more bad than good... When I resume from sleep on my Lenovo Thinkpad T420, my wireless laser mouse (Logitech M705) freezes at regular intervals (15.20 seconds) for 5 seconds then works again. This happens regardless if the computer is on battery or on AC power. How do I debug this? I am getting tired of the fact that my system gets more and more unstable over time while it should be the opposite...

  • Windows move onto second monitor when I turn it on

    I'm using a small monitor for my main display I also have an LCD TV hooked up through HDMI as my secondary display. The problem is whenever I turn on the TV most but usually not all of my currently running program windows jump to the secondary display. This is very annoying, because I don't like to keep my TV on unless I'm using it. So when I do turn it on I have to drag and drop each of the windows back on to my main display. I have played around with some Compiz settings to no avail please help.

    I bought this 2tb Segate GoFlex this last Black Friday and since then every 15 minutes or so the drive spins down, and then a little while later completely dismounts. Very annoying. From what I understand you could turn this off using the including Windows and Mac only software. This function and what controls it isn't proprietary, right? There has to be something that'll let me set it in Ubuntu... Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I formatted it to EXT4. Hope I didn't screw myself up. :/

  • Child to Parent linking - bad idea?

    I have a situation where my parent knows about it's child (duh) but I want the child to be able to reference the parent. The reason for this is that I want the child to have the ability to designate itself as most important or least important when it feels like it. When the child does this, it moves it to the top or bottom of the parent's children. In the past I've used a WeakReference property on the child to refer back tot he parent, but I feel that adds an annoying overhead, but maybe it's just the best way to do it. Is this just a bad idea? How would you implement this ability differently?

  • How does the HUD prioritize commands?

    Every now and then I want to reach the "Edit Preferences" menu item in Firefox, and the HUD makes this very convenient. ALT + "Edi" will suggest exactly that to me. Something that I find annoying however is that if I complete the work "Edit" instead, the HUD will switch to suggest "Network Edit preferences" instead. While this is a perfectly valid match as well, it seems like an inconsistent behaviour to me. Could someone explain in more detail how the matching works, so that I can make better use of the HUD?

  • Reload Gtk+ 3.0 theme

    I'm trying to customize my Gtk+3.0 theme, when I make a change in my theme, I change between two themes (with MyUnity) to force applications to reload the theme and test mine. But when I do that, the theme is not refreshed to appreciate my changes, still in an old version, apparently Gtk+ is caching the theme information somewhere. When I close and reopen session, I can appreciate my theme changes, but doing this for each change made is very annoying. Is there a way to refresh my theme and see my changes (a command line program or an Gtk+ API call for example)?

  • google chrome window resizes when click 12.04 kde

    All windows work fine but maximized G. Chrome window starts moving whenever I click under title bar without moving the cursor, but I don't want to move the windows, just to focus. Under the title bar is next to the tabs, on the blue part. This is annoying. It goes from maximized to moving windows function, with the cross instead of the pointer, only with single steady click.   • Files: Name column basically useless in list view. Feature or bug?

    So the following is happening in Files whenever the width of the window is somewhat smaller than all the content of the list: In list view the name column is cropped unto a point where no name is visible at all! And it is even not possible to change the column size manually. Funnily, in some situations it quickly flickers from a larger column width to the small one back and forth before settling on the small size. Unnecessarily to say, it is extremely annoying. Is there a way around this or is this just "bad design"? Oh yeah, Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10, Files version 3.8.2.

    I have a production environment which require access through a proxy server. Occasionally said server returns blank responses badly confusing the Metro web service library causing all kinds of interesting RuntimeExceptions. I believe the proxy is Squid. In order to handle these better, I would like to set up a similar scenario here with a local proxy under my control causing all kinds of interesting failures. A quick survey strongly indicated I was not asking right. So, the question is, is there a simple, open source HTTPS/HTTP whatever proxy written in Java suitable for this purpose?

  • Caching videos but of 0 Size

    Hi everyone, i have recently install cachevideos on linux with squid, its working but when it caches the video the video is just of 0 bytes in size, in the videocache.log file something like this appears 2011-02-08 19:46:37,235 INFO 192.168.1.5 - REQUEST - http://www.youtube.com/get_video?tmi=1&noflv=1&video_id=HfgZnBaHbt8&t=vjVQa1PpcFN0gQqMeI0xmahi0fFgDO5n59r4VrXgQmM=&el=detailpage&asv=3&fmt=34 2011-02-08 19:46:38,529 INFO 192.168.1.5 HfgZnBaHbt8 DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE 0 Video was downloaded and cached. on my localhost/videocache/youtube , i can see the file but its of 0 bytes and when i access the file from browser , in the videocache directory it tells me that video has been served from cache, but how come i can be assure that a 0 byte video is cached! Whats the problem please help me i am atlost!! the help at cachevideo.com is not working because their security captcha cant be displayed and thus i am unable to contact anywhere!! Please help me out!!

If I specify Cache-Control "max-age=3600, must-revalidate" for a static html/js/images/css file, with Last Modified Header defined in HTTP header, a. Does browser/proxy cache(liek Squid/Akamai) go all the way to orgin server to validate before max-age expires? Or will it serve content from cache till max-age expires? b. After max-age expiry(that is expiry from cache), is there a IMS check or is content re-downloaded from origin server w/o IMS check?

  • Finding an HTTP proxy that will intercept static resource requests

    Background I develop a web application that lives on an embedded device. In order to make dev times sane, frontend development is done using apache serving static documents, with PHP proxying out to the embedded device for specifically configured dynamic resources. This requires that we keep various server-simulation scripts hanging around in source control, and it requires updating those scripts whenever we add a new dynamic resource. Problem I'd like to invert the logic: if the requested document is available in the static documents directory, serve it; otherwise, proxy the request to the embedded device. Optimally, I want a software package that will do this for me (for Windows or buildable on cygwin). I can deal with forcing apache to do it with PHP, but I'm unsure how to configure it to make it happen. I've looked at squid and privoxy, but neither of them seem to do what I want. Any ideas? I'd rather not have to roll my own.

From what I understand after reading around a bit I should just need to mark the page as uncacheable but I can't get any browsers to refresh the page. Without depending much on application provider's expertise I want to achieve maximum o/p from linux. W.r.t. that I have certain questions as following: How to find out if there is scope for further tcp fine-tuning (without exhausting available resources) as the benchmark values given by vendor looks poor! Is there any parameter value that is available from OS / network stack that will show me the results. If at all there is scope, how shall I identify & configure OS tcp stack parameters i.e. using sysctl or any specific parameter Post tuning how shall I clearly measure performance enhancement / degradation ?

    An HTTP server uses content-negotiation to serve a single URL identity- or gzip-encoded based on the client's Accept-Encoding header. Now say we have a proxy cache like squid between clients and the httpd. If the proxy has cached both encodings of a URL, how does it determine which to serve? The non-gzip instance (not originally served with Vary) can be served to any client, but the encoded instances (having Vary: Accept-Encoding) can only be sent to a clients with the identical Accept-Encoding header value as was used in the original request. E.g. Opera sends "deflate, gzip, x-gzip, identity, *;q=0" but IE8 sends "gzip, deflate". According to the spec, then, caches shouldn't share content-encoded caches between the two browsers. Is this true?

I find that i have to kill some process called mspdbsrv.exe description:"microsoft program database" Then rebuild the entire project. This is annoying.   • WPF drag distance threshold

    I have a program with two WPF treeviews that allow dragging and dropping between the two. The problem is, it can be annoying to open / close items on the treeviews because moving the mouse just one pixel while holding the left mouse button triggers the drag / drop functionality. When the user hits the button to play it in full screen, my UIModalPresentationFormSheet is still there ontop of the video while it's playing in full screen, behind the window and behind the shadow. What do I need to do to get rid of the dim so the video is playing in fullscreen with being able to select buttons and not having an annoying dim ontop of it?

Has anyone used an Ioc container in php? All I've been able to find is PHP IOC on the ever-annoying phpclasses.org and it seems to have almost no documentation and not much of a following.
