• Windows Server 2008 (sp2) stops responding on network share requests from Windows Vista and 7 client

  I have two Windows Server 2008 SP2 machines (TFS and TFSBUILD). Periodically, the TFSBUILD server shares (\TFSBUILD\ShareName or \TFSBUILD\C$) become unresponsive to requests from Windows Vista (Server 2008) and Windows 7 client requests. Windows XP machines are still able to connect. No events in the server log indicate any problem. A simple restart corrects the issue temporarily, but it always returns. No, it is not this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976266 (we aren't using that software). All anti-virus software has been disabled, firewall is disabled by policy. No other network activity is affected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I have only one VPS with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and want to buy an Antivirus. I tried NOD32 but they do not give less than 5 users in business edition (I have only one server). Kaspersky may be another solution but whether should i go for Internet Security or Anti-virus? I have few website hosted on this server and user have ability to upload .jpg, .gif, .zip files in few of the folders. Apart from above two any other suggestions on Antivirus that works well on above configuration and available for only one user? Thanks

• Antialias not working in ubuntu lucid lynx 10.04

  I have recently upgraded from karmic to lucid (plain ubuntu using gnome). Everything worked fine, but the characters now aren't anti-aliased any more, as you can appreciate from the screenshot: This is what I tried to fix the situation, unluckily without succeeding: Used the regular option pane from System-Preference-Appearance-Font (smoothing, hinting...) Edited the .fonts.conf file Disinstalling (and then re-installing) the mstcorefont package Changing the default Sans font to a font of my liking (e.g. Tahoma) from the abovementioned Appearance options My ubuntu installation is quite standard, with the typical add-ons one might wish for usability. • Windows Security Center Service is missing

  I am trying to fix a Windows 7 machine here that has been infected with all kinds of Malware. I have removed all of them as far as I can see but I am stumped by one last task. One little bugger managed to remove the Windows Security Center service from the list of Windows services. So I cannot start it or set to automatically start. At the moment I cannot get the Windows firewall to turn on or any anti-virus software. The security center shows the following image when I try: Does anyone know how to add this back to the list of services so I may set it to start. I don't have a backup of the registry for this computer (it's not mine). Many thanks TT

• Losing WLAN connections but maintaining internet connections on WIndows 7 Workgroup

  I have 4 computers all running Windows 7 networked in a Work group through Billion 7404vgp-m wireless router.All drivers and firmware for wireless adapters and router are up to date. Windows Firewall and Defender disabled.Disconnected ipv6. Running Nod 32 anti virus software. All have own static IP address 192.XXX.X.XXX. When I Reset the router all computers have Internet and LAN access for about 1 hour and then they will lose the LAN connection but maintain Internet connection. Resetting wireless adapters or restarting computers does nothing to fix this but resetting router will. What is causing this and how do I fix it. Thanks Di

I've just installed VMware Workstation 7.0.1 Build 2276000, after that Win 7 stuck on welcome screen and I have to click on the user image to continue. Before that because I have just one account Win7 just showed welcome screen for a minute and then it went to Win7 desktop automatically, but now I have to click on my account image to continue. • Are there any home/soho NAS devices that will backup/sync to the cloud?

  Looking for a home office (SOHO) market (priced) network hard drive (NAS) that will sync some or all of its content to a cloud-based backup service. The only option I've been able to find so far is NetGear's [ReadyNAS Vault][1] however from what I've read it's not as secure as it could be, and the service is quite expensive ($200/yr for 50GB of cloud storage) - it's 'powered' by ElephantDrive Ideally would love to see something like Wuala integrated into a Lacie Network HDD - conveniently, I suspect this is in the works as Lacie recently acquired Wuala, however nothing has come of it yet. I know there are options to use rsync with a customizable NAS (such as the very versatile and hackable D-Link DNS-323, but the easier this is to setup and maintain, the better. Thanks! ps. • Send an Email at a future date

  I'd like to write up an email that gets sent out in a few days. I'd prefer to use Gmail, but I could use some other client if necessary. It doesn't look like Gmail has this feature in their labs anywhere, but it could just be hiding somewhere. Any ideas? EDIT: a bit more backstory on my particular situation. My wife is out of town for three weeks, and I've decided to email her every day while she's out. Unfortunately, I myself am going camping this weekend, so I wanted to pre-record a message that gets sent while I'm out. Unfortunately, FutureMail and FutureMe both are for sending email to yourself, probably for anti-spam reasons. I guess the best solution is to use thunderbird on my laptop (so it's shielded from power outages). Seems a little excessive to keep a computer running just to send a few emails, but whatever gets the job done :).

I heard the loud sounds and whatnot from one of the ads but nothing was harmed and other than having the life scared out of me nothing was immediately affected. Literally nothing has changed. • Capture live streaming

  I want to capture a rtmp stream. The videos are live, different every day and usually i cant tune in because i am busy at work doing something :(. I would like to capture the stream however they use anti capturing techniques (its live and free so i dont understand why). I tried orbit downloader without any luck. • Secure Login add on stopped working after installing BitDefender

  I'm using FF 3.5.4. with Secure Login 0.9.3 add on (lovely little thing). After a lot of persuading, my sys admin finally got to me, and I let him install BitDefender on my machine as well ... and naturally, like all anti virus programs do, it had to screw up something, and it was that add on. It says now in the add onns menu, that it isn't compatible with FF 3.5.4. (which is possible, I don' know, but it did work until one hour ago). What to do to make it work again? All ideas welcomed. I really hate writing all that logins/passwords by ahnd.

Should they not expect their anti-spam system to flag or block items with contradictions in these fields? For example, they received an eMail which contained [almost exactly] these two headers: Received: from [107.52.51.26] by web315204.mail.ne1.yahoo.com via HTTP; Mon,28 Oct 2013 04:28:04 PDT From: Barry Smith [email protected] Obviously, eMail from an @att.net address isn’t coming from a server on the domain yahoo.com, and Yahoo isn’t forwarding AT&T’s eMail. There were no other headers indicating that the item was sent “OnBehalfOf”, or “Forwarded-by”, or “By_Proxy” or any other such. Should I write a utility to scan incoming eMail for such conflicts, or look more closely at their spam filtering to block this kind of eMail? Their eMail system is Hosted Exchange on MS-365. My central question is, where specifically do I look in MS-365 to get this type of conflicted eMail blocked?

• Monitoring CPU Usage Over the Course of a Day?

  Are there any apps I an install on client machines that will generate a report for me what app used what % of the CPU. We have some machines that are running, at times, VERY slowly. The machine will run really poorly then boom, back up to full speed. There isn't usually enough time to check Task Manager real quickly to see what is running, not to mention the majority of the time there are people using the computer that don't know what the Task Manager is. ;) It would be really nice to take a look at some logs and see if, maybe, the anti virus is randomly taking alot of CPU for stretches of time. • Cannot save iTunes library

  Ever since I began using Windows 7 x64, I have been getting an infrequent error when using iTunes which goes something like this: The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Up until today this seemed to have no bad side effect but today I got the error, exited iTunes and started it back up only to discover my entire library was empty (the .xml file seemed to have been initialized). While I can restore my library from backup, this is pretty frustrating. Enough so that I may move the library to a MAC and sync there. I have reset the permissions on the folder. I have excluded the file from anti-virus scan. Neither of these things helped.

• Virus sending phishing emails through exchange server

  It appears that there is a virus on my network somewhere that is sending phishing emails through my exchange server. I can see the messages in message tracking and I see many SMTP errors for NDR's and rejected connections from external servers, but I do not see any SMTP authentications and I have logging up to MAX. How can I find the IP or hostname of the PC that is infected? Or is there some other explanation than virus? Anti-virus scan on server is clean. Server is not an open relay. Thanks

  Message is this: "Power supply surges detected during previous power on" "ASUS Auto-Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply" When i went to sleep yesterday and woke up, when i moved the mouse to go back from screen saver, it didn't do anything. So i left it, i came back from class and got this issue. (I didn't restart before going to class... So the screen was left like it was) Today there was a power cut in half of my house. (Computer is on the side that it didn't cut...) Voltages are fine, like always. How do i remove message? It's just maybe sensor glitch? Even disabling the Anti-Surge my PC "shuts down" (Only monitor, but maybe components do too.)

  At my office we've got 2 Dell XPS M1530 laptops. Both have been running up to date installations of Windows 7 with NOD 32 Anti Virus for months now with no problems. Last week however both started freezing with "Not responding" issues every few minutes when browsing the web. It doesn't matter which browser, the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and IE8 all do the same. After a few minutes the browser "wakes up again" but freezes again very soon. I suspect it's an OS update issue, a driver/OS conflict or something. Anybody got a solution for this?

  AVG anti-virus tells me that there is a virus in my asyncmac.sys. I tried to overwrite it with a copy of asyncmac.sys from another computer (making sure that it was the same version of Windows XP, but I was still nervous that I was going to break something), but when I reboot, I get the same virus warning. If I try to delete the file Windows (or somebody) automatically and immediately puts it back. I get a blue-screen death if I try to boot in safe mode. I tried to do a system restore to before I had the virus, but it tells me that it can't restore because nothing has changed. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

  I'm designing a website for a group which has lost the original digital image for their logo. The only file they have of it is a jpg which was embedded into a word document. The image has everything possible wrong with it: Anti-aliased onto a white background where it should be transparent Image artefacts Resized downwards poorly. Lines that should be straight and solid aren't. I've currently used the wand tool to get rid of the white background, and stuck it on the website, but it's poor quality makes it stick out like a sore thumb. I need a few different sizes of it to use, so how would I go about creating a vector image based on it?

• Make browsing safe for porn surfers

  At several places I've done some work at, I have a suspicion that some of the executives browse porn on their work computers. It appears this porn surfing has lead to virus infections on their computers despite the presence of an anti-virus. Filtering theses specific users' browsing is not an option, so what would be my next best solution be? I put Firefox + Adblock pro on their computers. I'm tempted to add NoScript, but I'm worried they'll start calling when noscript interferes with browsing on legit websites. Is there anything else I can due to mitigate this risk?

  Today morning I found my Yahoo Mail account sent several emails with Subject re: and this body : this is crazy you should give it a look http://www.wanews15.net/biz/?news=9080205 to all my contact emails !!! I have Eset Nod32(Up to date) Anti Virus, but it couldn't find any thing. I've installed Microsoft Security Essential and it could find a virus. I remove it and I change my mail password. What happened to my Yahoo Mail Account and what should I do ? Edit : My email password was 12 characters and I couldn't remember it , so I'm using RoboForm. Is it possible that my Roboform password divulge. !!! Edit 2 : I've changed my yahoo mail password, but this morning I received Failure Notice for sending mail to some invalid mail addresses again, but there is a different this time, the sent mails didn't exist in my Sent Box. Is it a good thing or I have to do something else ?

• Making internal website available publicly (Win 2008 Server)

  I have an IIS 7 web site that is running on a Windows 2008 Server (64-bit) VMWare on a Windows 2008 Server (64-bit) Host on my local network. My router is a Firebox XEdge and it has port 80 directed to the IP of the server on VMWare. I can reach the web site from inside the network, but I cannot reach the site from outside the network. I have other web sites that are working through the Firebox, and I am confident that it is configured correctly. I suspect that Windows 2008 server is blocking routed or public addresses, but I have shut down the firewall on the Server that is running on VMWare and the AVG Anti-virus to no avail. How can I make my site available publicly.

  I had problems with web virus cake 3.00 and I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-WALWARE, I got rid of that virus but I did other problems. When I open my PC appears to skype error "exception in module Skype.exe at 0013CE7D.The EOleSysError RPC server is unavailable" and another one "Error in C: \ WINDOWS \ system32 \ Nvcpl.Dll Missing entry: NnStartup" when I install / uninstall a program says "Windows Installer service Could you not be accessed. This CAN occure if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not corectly installes. Contact your support personnel for assistance. I have tried many "solutions" but nothing worked. Please HELP! It windows xp sp 2

• How come I can't ping my home computer?

  I'm trying to set up a vpn into my home computer in order to access files from wherever. I have the home computer set up with a no-ip dynamic dns program so I can always connect, and have also tried using the actual ip address. However, when I try to connect or even ping from anywhere outside of my house I can't get through. I've tried putting that particular computer in the dmz, turned off the computers firewall and anti-virus, and I still don't get anything. I have comcast as my home internet provider. I have also tried from two different locations. Are there any other solutions I can try or is comcast the issue? I used to be able to do this when I ran a small web server at home for fun but now nothing works. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
