  Hello. I'm starting with Python coming from java. I was wondering if there exists something similar to JavaDoc API where I can find the class, its methods and and example of how to use it. I've found very helpul to use help( thing ) from the Python ( command line ) I have found this also: http://docs.python.org/ http://docs.python.org/modindex.html But it seems to help when you already the class name you are looking for. In JavaDoc API I have all the classes so if I need something I scroll down to a class that "sounds like" what I need. Or some times I just browse all the classes to see what they do, and when I need a feature my brain recalls me We saw something similar in the javadoc remember!? But I don't seem to find the similar in Python ( yet ) and that why I'm posting this questin. BTW I know that I would eventually will read this: http://docs.python.org/lib/lib.html But, well, I think it is not today.

• Freezing Eclipse

  I use Eclipse for programming in PHP and Java(Android) and sometimes Python, unfortunately Eclipse is nowadays much more often freezing. Often when I write this bracket "[" for defining an array in PHP, Eclipse just freeze and I have to close it manualy and start again. I've noted also, that Eclipse is consuming really much of my RAM... 200-300MiB of my available memory is nothing special. :-( Is there any way to check, what is consuming the memory in Eclipse and why it's freezing? I'm running on Windows Vista, 3GB RAM.

• Visual Studio 2008 freezing when editing aspx/master pages

  Visual Studio freezes up continually when I'm editing master pages or aspx files. Here's what I've tried that have not helped: restarting VS only working with few files open at a time Disabled all addins (resharper etc.) deleted .suo and .user files changed default editor from Web Form Editor and Master Page Editor to HTML Editor installed SP1 I don't have tons of files - 3 Master pages and maybe 30 aspx files. It is a asp.net mvc project. All I have to do to get VS to freeze is type a little text or even just paste. The freezing lasts a good 5-10 seconds. My machine has 4GB of RAM and fast disks. Could it have anything to do with asp.net mvc? Would the amount and size of other projects in the solution affect the editor?

  One thing that always strikes me as a non-cryptographer: Why is it so important to use Prime numbers? What makes them so special in cryptography? Does anyone have a simple short explanation? (I am aware that there are many primers and that Applied Cryptography is the Bible, but as said: I am not looking to implement my own cryptographic algorithm, and the stuff that I found just made my brain explode - no 10 pages of math formulas please :)) Thanks for all the answers. • SVN Delete with wildcard?

  I'm migrating a VSS repository to SVN and inadvertently included all of the _vti_cnf, *.scc files in the first check-in. I'd like to remove these from SVN. (Not permanently, of course - just in the HEAD). The application in question is quite large, and finding and deleting these files on a folder-by-folder basis will take forever. Suggestions? There must be some obvious way to do this, but the proximity of the weekend is interfering with my higher brain functions.

My page is stored as an embedded resource - but the Frame.Navigate takes a URI. • Filtering at server or at client?

  I am thinking about how to build advertise site which works like twitter. That means, most user don't not visit the site by browser, they should run a dedicated client application on their PC or smart phone. Then they set some filters about what kind of advertise they like. And when new post that fulfill their needs appear, the client will make a notification. To make that client as real time as possible, it has to poll the server within a short time interval. The problem is, should I do the filtering at the server side when client polls, or should I simply transfer all new posts to client and let client do the filtering? Making server side filtering might cause too much CPU cycles of server, but transferring every post blindly to client might waste a lot of bandwidth. Just a brain game. :)

• PyQt4, QThread and opening big files without freezing the GUI

  Hi, I would like to ask how to read a big file from disk and maintain the PyQt4 UI responsive (not blocked). I had moved the load of the file to a QThread subclass but my GUI thread get freezed. Any suggestions? I think it must be something with the GIL but I don't know how to sort it? EDIT: I am using vtkGDCMImageReader from the GDCM project to read a multiframe DICOM image and display it with vtk and pyqt4.   So; I'm a hobbiest who's trying to work through SICP (it's free!) and there is an example procedure in the first chapter that is meant to count the possible ways to make change with american coins; (change-maker 100) = 292. I have not had luck figuring this out or finding an answer after getting frustrated. I'm wondering if it's a brain fart on my part, or if the author's screwing with me.

  Hello there, I have been programming 10 years, mostly in vba and vb.net but I know c# well enough to program what I normally do. I yesterday was applying for a Senior c# position and I did so poorly on the induction test its not funny :) I have always found that for me the best way to learn and recall is via question's and answers (multichoice and short answer). That is, a question is posed and after I answer instant feedback is given as to whether I choose right or wrong and the reasons why. As such I was wondering if anyone knew of or could recommend a C# quiz website. Something like a daily c# quiz to keep my brain up to date and fresh if I'm not always programming in it. Not something wimpy either. Something that does everything. Paying is not an obstacle, id prefer to pay for a good resource than muck around. Thank you

  I'm trying to get a stored procedure to work using the following syntax: select count(sl.Item_Number) as NumOccurrences from spv3SalesDocument as sd left outer join spv3saleslineitem as sl on sd.Sales_Doc_Type = sl.Sales_Doc_Type and sd.Sales_Doc_Num = sl.Sales_Doc_Num where sd.Sales_Doc_Type='ORDER' and sd.Sales_Doc_Num='OREQP0000170' and sl.Item_Number = 'MCN-USF' group by sl.Item_Number having count (distinct sl.Item_Number) = 0 In this particular case when the criteria is not met the query returns no records and the 'count' is just blank. I need a 0 returned so that I can apply a condition instead of just nothing. I'm guessing it is a fairly simple fix but beyond my simple brain capacity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Wally

• Can I use Win32 FreeType without the .dll file?

  Hello. I'm teaching myself OpenGL and I'm implementing ttf text rendering using FreeType 2. I downloaded the library from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/freetype.htm and after a couple of minor issues I got it running properly. The thing that's bothering me is that I have to place a copy of freetype6.dll in the directory with my executable in order for the thing to run. I generally try to avoid a bunch of unnecessary dll files floating around. I'm sort of new to windows programming, but from what I understand most libraries can be built to run fully from a lib rather than requiring a dll at runtime. Looking through the documentation from FT is making my brain melt, so I thought I would ask here to see if there were any devs that have worked with FT before and if so, do they know how to build the library such that no dll is required at runtime. One of the wives happens to be a Graphical Designer, she has come up with the brilliant idea to put Code on the Jersey (How this wasn't my idea, I have no clue). The only rule is, she wants Nerds to be a part of the code. I've been racking my brain to come up with something clever, but really haven't been able to. So I decided to open it up to my online family. Where better to ask than SO? • .Net Regular expression - how to do an exact match exclusion on a full string?

  I need a .Net regular expression that matches anything OTHER than the exact full string match specified. So basically: ^Index$ ... is the only exclusion I care about. Strings can start with, finish with or contain "Index", but not match exactly. My brain doesn't seem to be working today and I'm failing to work this one out. EDIT The answer MUST be via the pattern itself, as I am passing an argument to a third party library and do not have control over the process other than via the Regex pattern.

• How to improve IntelliJ code editor speed?

  I am using IntelliJ (Community Edition) for several months, and at first I'm pleased about its speed & simplicity. But now, after upgrading to version 10, it's extremely slow. Sometimes I click a file then it takes 5 - 15 seconds to open that file (it freeze for that time). I don't know if I have done anything which cause that: I have installed 2 plugins(regex, sql), and have 2 versions of IntelliJ on my machine (now the version 9 removed, only version 10 remains). Is there any tips to improve speed of code editor, in general, or specifically IntelliJ? I have some experience when using IntelliJ: 1. Should open IntelliJ a while before working, cause it needs time for indexing. Don't open too many code tabs Open as less other program as possible. I'm using 2 GB RAM WinXP, and it just seems fairly enough for Java, IntelliJ & Chrome at the same time.

• WPF MediaElement pauses when trying to play Windows Media Center recording

  I have an WPF application that starts a live tv recording using Windows Media Center, using the Windows Media Center SDK, waits 2 minutes and then plays the currently recording file (.wtv) in a WPF MediaElement. The problem is that the video visual will freeze and it is not consistent on when it happens. I have looked into it and discovered that the timeline is still moving so the MediaElement still thinks that the video is playing. This happens only when trying to play a video file that is currently being recorded, previously recorded shows play just fine. Both Media Center and Media Player can play those files without any hiccups; it is only the WPF MediaElement that has this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

• If-elseif-else Logic Question

  I have a set of three values, call them x, y, and z. If value A happens to match only one in the set x, y, and z, then that means we have a proper match and we stop searching for a match, even if it is at y. It can match any one in that set. These values x, y, and z are non-constant so I cannot use a switch-case statement. How do I do this with an if-elseif-else statements without having to use GOTO. I am using C++ (no boost or any of that other fancy stuff). Now, I am trying to do this in code and it is racking my brain this morning (not enough coffee?)

  Hello, Using Eclipse on a PHP Project, I recently created a tag on my SVN. Since that day, let's say I'm working on a class in my trunk, when I ctrl+space in my code, Eclipse is getting really really slow (sometimes even freeze), and if I'm lucky, it will give me 2 responses for autocompletion : One referencing some method/class from the tag, one referencing method/class from the trunk. But right now, only the reference from the trunk would be useful for me. Is there a way to limit where Eclipse parse the code to give back autocompletion suggestion ? Thank you

  Hi all, first post here, I come in peace :) I've searched but can't quite find what I'm after. I am trying to manipulate the selected option of a select box. Can someone please explain why this works: $('#some_select_box').click(function() { $('#some_select_box option:selected').remove(); }); but this doesn't: $('#some_select_box').click(function() { $('this option:selected').remove(); }); I just want to use "this" instead of spelling out the id of the select box - can someone point me in the right direction for the correct syntax? It's driving me mad because it looks like it should be really simple. And I'm sure it is to someone, but not me, cos its the end of the day and I'm brain-fried... Any pointers much appreciated. • How to debug CSS/Javascript hover issues

  I often find myself wanting to debug CSS layout issues that involve DOM changes caused by Javascript in reaction to a hover event or different CSS rules applying due to the :hover selector. Normally, I'd use Firebug to inspect the element that's giving me trouble and see what its CSS properties were, and where those properties come from. However, when hovering is involved, it becomes impossible, because as soon as you move your mouse down to the Firebug panel, the elements you're interested in are no longer hovered, the CSS rules that apply are different, and (in the case of JS hovers) the DOM is changed. Is there any way I can "freeze" the state of the DOM and application of :hover in order to inspect the DOM as it was during a hover event? Any other ideas on how to debug this sort of issue are welcome, of course.

• Signal amplitude against time in Java

  I'm racking my brain in order to solve a knotty problem (at least for me). While playing an audio file (using Java) I want the signal amplitude to be displayed against time. I mean I'd like to implement a small panel showing a sort of oscilloscope (spectrum analyzer). The audio signal should be viewed in the time domain (vertical axis is amplitude and the horizontal axis is time). Does anyone know how to do it? Is there a good tutorial I can rely on? Since I know very little about Java, I hope someone can help me.
