  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? My business partner and I are looking for a European web-hosting service (we are situated in Europe). That service needs to be, needs to have: international servers, a server for each continent at the very least. a high amount of bandwidth. highly scalable, since we are expecting to start off small, but as our user base grows so will everything else (again, no porn or phallic jokes) need to do. a moderate to supreme customer service. of course a small downtime per annum. affordable at first, fair as we grow.   this is the first time I am going to host a java app, Amazon offers a free tier which provides free usage for one year, and I am going to use it. But there are so many services (S3, EC2, etc etc), I cant figure out which service is for web hosting, which service is for what use, their docs is so huge, I am confused, what to read. can anybody write some good points, about which service to use specifically for Java apps, how much I will be charged, and they ask for credit/debit card credential for signup, does it mean they will debit me even in the free period?

• How to connect to a WCF service using IP of the host machine where the service is hosted?

  I have a secured WCF service (https://<MachineName>:sslport/services) self hosted in a machine. Different instances of same service are deployed in differnt machines. From a client app, I am able to connect to theses services through code, i.e. using ChannelFactory() with the same endpoint address. But if I try to access the service using the endpoint address as https://<ipAddress>:sslport/services replacing machines name with machine IP address, I am getting some error stating "could not establish trust relationship". I know this is an error caused by SSL certificate that it could not establish a trust relationship. Are there any settings or any possibilities to make this work?

• Why do we need REST service security if we have HTTPS

  I refer to this excellent article http://www.thebuzzmedia.com/designing-a-secure-rest-api-without-oauth-authentication/ which speaks of amazon like security for web service. However I was asked a question in the team of why do we need it if we already use HTTPS. I was unable to answer as it really seems to me they may be right although gut tells me otherwise. Also is there places when providing REST services where HTTPS may not work? Like 3rd party websites? If anyone has experience in securing Web Services over the public interwebs please shed some light with your experience. Thanks in advance. EDIT: To clarify I am not speaking of user authentication but more of client authentication. The user authentication can be assumed to be plain text over HTTPS+ REST. My worry is that this still allows anyone to use the web service without my client to access it since everything is plai text although over HTTPS the client end point can still use my web service without the client application.

I presume this fits into Domain Driven Design and I should start there? The term "Service" just seem to be used widely within IT and it can be confusing the exact meaning. So my questions is: What is the Service Layer Where is the best place to learn about them. I know there are probably tonnes of interweb/books/blogs on the subject, but some good areas to start from would be nice. If I'm being too vague, let me know.

• Free blog sites where the blogs can (if the template does) validate as XHTML Strict 1.0?

  I'm looking for a site where I may register a free blog and have the blog validate as XHTML Strict 1.0. On the surface this may seem like a trivial problem only related to the theme/template in use, but that's unfortunately not the case. One example of a provider which can't fullfill this requirement is Blogger. Altough the pages of the blogs there presents themselfs as XHTML 1.0 Strict it is impossible to actually comply with the requirements inheritied by that markup type in the blog (as the XHTML which is generated by Blogger makes the page as a whole invalid). I've sent a mail to Tumblr to see if it was possible with them, but so far my reply consists of them having forwarded my mail with a "suggestion" to the development department. I don't know if we had a communication error or if I'm actually going to receive a proper answer later. Time will tell. I haven't had time to investigate Tumblr myself, so they may very well be the solution to this problem. To sum things up, I'm looking for any provider: Of a free blog. The blog must have the capability to validate as XHTML Strict 1.0. With capability I mean that the system shouldn't get in the way of creating/using a theme which complies as XHTML Strict 1.0. Preferably is large or at least likely to stay around for a couple of years to come. But I'm willing to take my chances if none of the established providers are up to the task. Thank you for reading! I hope you know of any provider which would be suitable, preferably with proof by linking to a blog there which validates. I'm not looking for suggestions to look into, as there are far to many to investigate and far too little time. If you know of something for sure, I'd be very happy to know about it.

  I am writing a SOAP based ASP.NET Web Service having a number of methods to deal with Client objects. e.g: int AddClient(Client c) = returns Client ID when successful List GetClients() Client GetClientInfo(int clientId) In the above methods, the return value/object for each method corresponds to the "all good" scenario i.e. A client Id will be returned if AddClient was successful or a List< of Client objects will be returned by GetClients. But what if an error occurs, how do I convey the error message to the caller? I was thinking of having a Response class: Response { StatusCode, StatusMessage, Details } where Details will hold the actual response but in that case the caller will have to cast the response every time. What are your views on the above? Is there a better solution? ---------- UPDATED ----------- Is there something new in WCF for the above? What difference will it make If I change the ASP.NET Web Service to a WCF Service?

  I know this question is not technical, but i did not find the "stackoverflow for legal issues" and I guess all you super users out there might know the answer. Here is my (potential) problem: I have a free email account at a (inter)national email provider. I used the words "wikileaks" and "twitter" lately in my email. Some over-ambitious national security organization legally requests access to all accounts that behaved similarly. Q1: Can I request the who-, when-, and why-information related to this legal request from my provider? Does he have to tell me which (inter)national organizations (legally) requested my account data? Q2: Does the situation change if I live in Germany (and have a German provider)? I guess here are some German users. And I know that such a legal policy exists for our national credit rating agency. I can request who got access to my data, they have to tell me. Please answer only if you know a good answer, I don't want to start a long discussion on this none-technical question. • How do I implement IDataServiceMetadataProvider and tell my Data Service to use that custom provider

  There's no obvious entry point for implementing a custom provider for an ADO.NET Data Service using IDataServiceMetadataProvider, and then telling a Data Service to use that provider. Has anyone had any luck in this area? I've tried implementing this interface on my Data Source class, but none of my breakpoints are hit. There is also no (obvious) way to set the provider from the Data Service's DataServiceConfiguration parameter passed in to the InitializeService function. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! • Oracle .NET Provider DLL hell

  I am currently developing on a Win7-32bits computer. Everything works fine. It's a ASP.NET application. I was able to use Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider to connect to Oracle (using 32 bit instant client) and also ODP.NET. No problems at all. Application runs fine. The problem comes when I deploy it to IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server 64bit computer. I can't get Microsoft's deprecated .NET provider or ODP.NET to work easily. Is there a straightforward way to use a 32bit based ODP.NET or Microsoft's Oracle deprecated .NET provider in Windows 2008 Server 64bits? DLL hell here! Thanks.
