  • Excel data into PowerPoint slides

    I have already found some helpful sites but I'm still unable to do what I want. My Excel file contains few columns and multiple rows. All the data from one row would be in one slide but data from different cells in that one row should go to a specific elements in PP slide. At first, is it possible to export data from an Excel cell into a specific text box in PP? For example, I would like to have all data from the first column of each row go to a Text box 1. Let's say I have 100 rows so I would have 100 slides and each slide would have Text bow 1 with correct data. Text box of slide 66 would have data from the first column of row 66. Then all data from the second column of each row would go to a text bow 2 and so on. I tried to do some macros with bad success. I also tried to use Word outlines and export them into PP (New slide - Slides from Outline) but there seems to be a bug since I got 250 pages of gibberish. I had only two paragraphs and both had one word. First paragraph used Heading 1 style and second paragraph used Normal style. Sites what I have found, use VB and/or some other programming language to create slides from Excel sheets. I have tried to add those VB codes into my macros but none of them hasn't worked so far.   • VBA + Polymorphism: Override worksheet functions from 3rd party

    my company makes extensive use of a data provider using a (closed source) VBA plugin. In principal, every query follows follows a certain structure: Fill one cell with a formula, where arguments to the formula specify the query the range of that formula is extended (not an arrray formula!) and cells below/right are filled with data For this to work, however, a user has to have a terminal program installed on the machine, as well as a com-plugin referenced in VBA/Excel. My Problem These Excelsheets are used and extended by multiple users, and not all of them have access to the data provider. While they can open the sheet, it will recalculate and the data will be gone. However, frequent recalculation is required. I would like every user to be able to use the sheets, without executing a very specific set of formulas. Attempts remove the reference on those computers where I do not have terminal access. This generates a NAME error i the cell containing the query (acceptable), but this query overrides parts of the data (not acceptable) If you allow the program to refresh, all data will be gone after a failed query Replace all formulas with the plain-text result in the respective cells (press a button and loop over every cell...). Obviously destroys any refresh-capabilities the querys offer for all subsequent users, so pretty bad, too. A theoretical idea, and I'm not sure how to implement it: Replace the functions offered by the plugin with something that will be called either first (and relay the query through to the original function, if thats available) or instead of the original function (by only deploying the solution on non-terminal machines), which just returns the original value. More specifically, if my query function is used like this: =GETALLDATA(Startdate, Enddate, Stockticker, etc) I would like to transparently swap the function behind the call. Do you see any hope, or am I lost? I appreciate your help. PS: Of course I'm talking about Bloomberg... Some additional points to clarify issues raise by Frank: The formula in the sheets may not be changed. This is mission-critical software, and its way too complex for any sane person to try and touch it. Only excel and VBA may be used (which is the reason for the previous point...) It would be sufficient to prevent execution of these few specific formulas/functions on a specific machine for all excel sheets to come This looks more and more like a problem for stackoverflow ;-)

  • Macro to copy values to new sheet and prompt user where they want to save

    I'm looking to create a macro in Excel 2007 which will do the following: copy the formatting and values from a sheet called 'report', insert this into a new workbook, naming the file with the value in 'B9' and appending the word 'report' to this when copying the data into a new workbook, the formatting of the original should be retained, but cell contents pasted as values rather than formulas prior to saving the file with the above name, the user will be prompted to choose their folder at the end, a message will be displayed alerting the user that the file has been saved successfully Any assistance would be much appreciated.   • SharePoint 2007 Parser Error after updating master page

    A few weeks ago I was updating the master page for a SharePoint 2007 (WSS) site.  The client wanted the site updated to reflect the new look and feel that is being applied to another set of sites in the organization. I created a new theme and master page, which I already wrote about here and here.  It worked well, except for a few pages on a subsite.  On those pages, I got the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Code blocks are not allowed in this file.   I decided to go comb through my new master page and compare it to the existing master page that was already working.  After going through them line by line several times, I had no clue what would be causing the error because they were basically the same! It turns out, it was a combination of two things.  First, on a few of the pages in the site, there was some include code (basically an <% EVAL()%> snippet).  This was the code that was triggering my error “Code blocks are not allowed in this file”. However, this code was working fine with the previous master page. I decided to then try doing a full deployment of the site with the new master page, and it worked fine!  Apparently, if the master page is deployed using a Feature, then it is granted permission to allow code blocks, but if you upload pages either using web UI or SharePoint Designer, then the pages won’t be able to use code blocks. I haven’t been able to pin down the rules or official info about this, but I thought others might find it useful anyway.

  • Excel macro to change location of .cub files used by pivot tables? (to allow .xls files that depend

    I often use Excel with pivot tables based on .cub files for OLAP-type analysis. This is great except when you want to move the xls and you realise internally it's got a non-relative reference to the location of the .cub file. How can we cope with this - ie make it convenient to move around xls files that depend on .cub files? The best answer I could come up with is writing a macro that updates the pivot tables' reference to the .cub file location....so I'll pop that in an answer.

  • Moved files only opening as 'read-only' in Excel

    I moved a large directory of Excel files to another machine. When I sign in as myself (administrator signing into domain) then the files open just fine, but when I sign in as a Power User directly onto the machine, the files open as 'Read-Only'. I've reset all the attributes through both Windows and DOS, but to no avail. Also I checked on the Search Indexing bug, but indexing is already turned off. Any ideas?

There are two lists, one list just has one column and the other has two columns, and what I am trying to do is when column A matches column C than take the value in column D and use that to replace column A. Now i want to get rid of the function and just leave the data with the link. So i do Paste Special -- Values Which does the job but then the link is removed. How can i paste the values and keep the hyperlink?

  • Excel changing decimal places on number cells when I edit the cell's formula

    I have a worksheet with thousands of number cells, all formatted "Number, 3 decimal places, use 1000 Separator ()". Starting a few days ago, if I edit a formula in any of these cells to reference another cell, Excel will change the decimal places to 14. For example, "=C$53^$B$4" = "=C$53^$B$10" will cause this. I am not aware of any settings being changed. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this?

CAML it’s a markup language like html that allows developers to do queries against SharePoint lists, it’s syntax is very easy to understand and it allows to add logical conditions like Where, Contains, And, Or, etc, just like a SQL Query. For one of our projects we have the need to do a filter on SharePoint views, the problem here is that the view it’s a list containing a CAML Query with the filters the view may have, so in order to filter the view that’s already been filtered before, we need to append our filters to the existing CAML Query. That’s not a trivial task because the where statement in a CAML Query it’s like this: <Where>   <And>     <Filter1 />     <Filter2 />   </And> </Where> If we want to add a new logical operator, like an OR it’s not just as simple as to append the OR expression like the following example: <Where>   <And>     <Filter1 />     <Filter2 />   </And>   <Or>     <Filter3 />   </Or> </Where> But instead the correct query would be: <Where>   <Or>     <And>       <Filter1 />       <Filter2 />     </And>     <Filter3 />   </Or> </Where> Notice that the <Filter# /> tags are for explanation purpose only. In order to solve this problem we created a simple component, it has a method that receives the current query (could be an empty query also) and appends the expression you want to that query. Example: string currentQuery = @“ <Where>    <And>     <Contains><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>A</Value></Contains>     <Contains><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>B</Value></Contains>   </And> </Where>”; currentQuery = CAMLQueryBuilder.AppendQuery(     currentQuery,     “<Contains><FieldRef Name='Title' /><Value Type='Text'>C</Value></Contains>”,     CAMLQueryBuilder.Operators.Or); The fist parameter this function receives it’s the actual query, the second it’s the filter you want to add, and the third it’s the logical operator, so basically in this query we want all the items that the title contains: the character A and B or the ones that contains the character C.   • Is there a utility that will let me write to an Excel 2007 .xlsm file with macros enabled?

    I am writing a program that writes to Excel files. I am restricted to writing to Excel 2007, which is fine, and I'm using EPPlus, which is a great utility. The thing is that I need to have macros and VBA enabled for an update function in the sheet, but EPPlus will only write to .xlsx files, not macro-enabled .xlsm files. If I try to write to .xlsm files it won't open. Is there another code library that lets me accomplish what I need (again that's writing to Excell 2007 Macro-enabled workbooks)?

    Hi there, I'm a C++ developer wrestling with updating an application that had made extensive use of the IStorage interface to open pre-Office 2007 documents from in-memory storage (via ILockBytes). If you are still following me so far, you probably know that the new Office Document formats are incompatible with IStorage containers. The application I'm trying to update, relied upon the IPersistStorage interface that all Office applications have, and the code as written calls the load method of IPersistStorage to read in a document from IStorage interface. So the question is.... What kind of COM interfaces are available to me to read in, from an in memory container, an Office 2007 document? John "S"

  • Workaround for Outlook 2007 for wrapping text around image with margin?

    As we all know, Outlook 2007 uses the Word 2007 rendering engine, causing endless grief when designing HTML email message. [Insert rant here] In particular, float, margin, and padding are - shall we say? - poorly supported. To simulate float so that text wraps around an image, apparently we can simply use: <img src="foo.png" align="right"> The issue is padding/margin. Without padding/margin, the wrapped text butts up against the image which looks goofy. One workaround is to edit the image and add transparent framing that simulates margin. Does anyone know any other workarounds?

  • Proper Install Order For Visual Studio 2010 with SQL Server 2008 and Office 2007?

    I want to create a Windows 7 64-bit (Ultimate) virtual machine with: Visual Studio 2010 (Ultimate) Office 2007 Enterprise (with Visio 2007) SQL Server 2008 (with SSIS and SSRS) but I am not sure if there is a correct order to install those items such that there will not be a loss of "awareness" of one application from another on that list? For example, I want to make sure Visual Studio knows that Office exists but also that Visual Studio knows that SQL Server exists but if I install SQL Server before Office will that wipe out any data access drivers that are needed by VS 2010 if Office is installed after SQL Server? There are a lot of components and I never gave it a thought that install order would matter but I have a feeling it does. Ultimately I want to create a VM that I can save and use a base development VM from which to create additional VMs from.

  • Dell Management Packs in System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2?

    Hey all, I recently set up SCOM in a small business network environment. The root management server is a Dell Poweredge 2950, and I'd like to use SCOM to monitor it using Dell's management packs. I've imported the management packs into the SCOM deployment and followed Dell's installation instructions, but it doesn't seem to be fully working yet. Currently, the Diagram views in the Dell tree (Monitoring tab) seem to show me the server's place in the network topology, so it seems that at least part of it is working. However, none of the reports under "Performance and Power Monitoring Views" provide any information. When clicking on one of them (Power Consumption (Watts), for instance), the display area is blank and there is a tooltip visible that reads "No performance counter is selected. To select a counter, place a check mark in the Show column in legend below." However, in the legend, there's nothing there for me to check. I've installed OpenManage 6.2 on the server as per the Dell documentation, but I don't know what else I could have done that I missed. Does this sound like a familiar problem to anyone?

  • Word 2007 heading numbering incorrect

    I have a large-ish document (1.5MB, 105 pages) with headings provided by formatting styles. Everything was fine until some point in a recent edit and now the first H1 heading is 4 (the second 5 and so on). I've right clicked and selected Set Numbering Value at set it to 1, but it refuses to budge. Any tips? Thanks
