USB mouse disconnecting and reconnecting in windows and linux

I have a problem similar to what is described at "Why is my USB mouse disconnecting and reconnecting randomly and often?" except is is happening in both Windows 7 and Linux (Ubuntu 12/04TLS, fully patched), multiple mice, multiple OSs. It stops responding to input for about 3-5 seconds, then starts responding again. It's more frequent and lasts longer when running games (TF2, L4D, Dishonored, Borderlands 2, and more), but happens when just running the OS as well. I was hoping it was the motherboard so I bought a USB 2.0 PCI card to try that, but it's still happening. I've stripped it down to just the keyboard and mouse (different keyboard too just in case the keyboard was the problem), but it's still happening. All the hardware (mice and keyboards) work fine on other computers. I have literally pulled the mouse and keyboard out and plugged them into another computer (laptop) and re-joined the online game and had no problem with the keyboard and mouse combo that just failed on my gaming rig. Please no driver / Windows or Linux only suggestions, as that wouldn't effect both OSs. edit: known good mice I've brought home are now going bad. I suspect the hardware is messed up (voltage?) and has been frying the mice.

Can you assign a keyboard shortcut to the commands you've placed in OneNote 2010's "Quick Access Toolbar"? CTRL+1, CTRL+2 or something.. What I really want to do is have a keyboard shortcut to select Pen #1, Pen #2 etc, but since I placed the pens in the "Quick Access Toolbar" I'd be happy if I could type a keyboard shortcut to access those. Using Ctrl-Tab to switch between tabs in Mac Terminal.app

How can I make Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab switch between tabs in Terminal.app on a Mac (OS 10.4 and 10.5 specifically)? This is how I switch tabs in Firefox and Aquamacs, and Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-] is too awkward to me. I am aware of this related question: .../unable-to-switch-a-tab-efficiently-in-macs-terminal* And hence the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the System Preferences, but the dialog box for Keyboard Shortcuts doesn't seem to accept Ctrl-Tab in the Keyboard Shortcut field. Is there a special keyboard sequence for inputting tabs (with modifiers) into a dialog box field on a Mac? Is there any other method that would allow me to customize Terminal.app in the way I desire? Not really a programming question, but I think the answer would be useful to other folks that program on Macs and would like to have some consistency between interfaces of different applications. How to get Virtual PC to recognize MIDI devices?

Hey all. I have an XP Pro virtual machine running inside Virtual PC 2007. My host machine is x64 Windows 7. I have a MIDI keyboard hooked up to my machine via a Turtle Beach USB to MIDI 1x1 cable. I have installed the driver and software on my host machine and ran a soundcheck, and everything appears to be working fine. Playback is sent to the MIDI device with no problems. However, when I attempt to install the driver and run a soundcheck in my XP virtual machine, the device is not found. Other USB devices (mouse, keyboard, flash drives) work fine in the virtual machine, but not they MIDI keyboard. I'm not sure what steps to take in order to troubleshoot the and get the VM to start recognizing the MIDI keyboard. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Synergy on Linux and Linux

Using Synergy-plus-1.3.4 on Gentoo Linux kernel 2.6.36-tuxonice-r3. Using SHIFT+CAPS to change keyboard layout on BOTH server and client boxes. Works perfectly if change layout using attached keyboard. But when using synergy keyboard (moved mouse from server screen to client and changing with SHIFT+CAPS) it has no effect. Synergy is just amazing thing exception this small issue which I'm assured is solvable. Please, gimme some hint.

Looking for a USB A/B Box

I have a laptop and a tower, and I usually like to use the laptop for my chat and other miscellaneous tasks while the tower is doing the hard work during video editing projects and such. Due to the way my desk is set up, it's kind of a stretch to reach over to the laptop's keyboard all the time, and having a second keyboard/mouse is rather cumbersome, albeit manageable if I keep the second keyboard in my lap. Does anyone make an A/B box that I can plug into the tower and the laptop so I can just flip the keyboard over to the appropriate machine as needed?

Can't add German as input language in Windows XP

I have a laptop that was brought to a computer shop for a hard disk problem. They replaced the disk and reinstalled windows XP, although the English version (the laptop has a German keyboard). I'd like to switch the input language to German. Usually I know how to do this (via "Regional and Language Options"), the problem is when I choose Languages/Details/Add... it doesn't offer me the German keyboard layout: It also uses the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" driver - the laptop's keyboard is a 104/105 key German version. I can't seem to change this. Did I just miss the setting, or what is going on here?

Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still? LInux (Ubuntu Karmic) equivalent to Pawsense

I now work from a home office - much to the delight of my cats. One in particular likes to come for a hug several times a day. That in itself is fine but he tends to sit on my laptop keyboard whilst I'm working on my desktop and vice-versa. Also he'll walk across any keyboard I'm actually using at the time. I've found Pawsense and would like to know if anyone can suggest a Linux equivalent (or some incantations to achieve the same). Training him out of sitting on the keyboard is likely to prove fruitless (a suggested here). He's far more pig-headed than I am. This conversation discusses some utilities like xlock et al but I'd prefer if possible to have something more along the lines of Pawsense that doesn't lock the keyboard but "simply" intercepts cat-like typing. GMail Phone dialer - shortcut key for pushing the hash or pound key?

I use the GMall 'Call phone' feature a lot, and the numeric keyboard pad works great for entering conference codes, but most conference call services want you "Enter your conference code followed by the 'hash' or 'pound' sign. So I end up typing the 10 digit conference code using the keyboard but then I have to use my mouse to push the # or hash sign. Is their a way to push the # with the keyboard?

Command+Tab not working on MacOSX Client with Synergy

I have an Ubuntu 11.10 laptop paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the answer on this question to swap the Command and Option keys so that they are mapped like a regular keyboard. This works fine in Ubuntu. Now I have a Macbook Pro running as a Synergy Client. This mapping kind of works on the Macbook, but it only allows me to Command+Tab between two programs, not all of them. Copy, Paste, and other Command keys seem to work fine, but not Command+Tab. It's annoying just because I use the keyboard a lot. And yes, I could switch to syncing the keyboard and the Macbook, but I use the Ubuntu laptop more.

Unable to Use Bluetooth Mighty Mouse or Wireless Keyboard with Boot Camp

I have Windows 7 64-bit running on a MacBook Pro in a Boot Camp partition. I am trying to pair with my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and wireless keyboard under Windows, but whenever I try to do so, here's what happens: While on the Add a device window, I turn on the mouse or press a key on the keyboard, and the mouse or keyboard shows up in the list of available devices. I click the device and then the Next button, and the window displays Connecting to device... Time passes. Eventually, I get this error message indicating that the device could not be accessed. The error code is 0x80070015. I've run Windows Update and Apple Software Update.

OSX Keyboard Shortcuts in Dialogs?

On Windows, every dialog box includes underlined letters that you can activate using the Alt key. I use these "Alt" keyboard shortcuts all the time; I'm missing them as I'm trying to switch to OSX. On OSX, all I can find is Tab navigation, which requires you to press Tab seven or eight times to get anywhere in most dialog boxes. (And even that is hidden by default: you have to enable "Full keyboard access" in the "Keyboard & Mouse" control panel to be able to Tab between buttons.) Is there some way I can get something like the Windows Alt accelerators for OSX dialogs? I'm willing to write Automator code, download/purchase software, etc. Specifically, I'm imagining maybe something where you do some shortcut command and then start typing the name of the button, and hit Enter to push the button...?

problem with using polish keyboard with synergy 1.4.2

I installed synergy on Windows 7 as server and on Windows Vista as client. On both I can use polish keyboard using local keyboard. When I am using remote keyboard via synergy polish characters are not working (I mean in example S + Alt Gr or S + left Alt + left ctrl) I've used synergy about 1 year ago and I cannot recall that kind of problem so I think the problem is only in current version. Searching through your web site and googled I found only identical problem 5 years ago with information that it was solved. Please help me to sort it out.

Acrobat keyboard stealing in Firefox

There are times when I open a pdf in firefox(which uses the acrobat plugin) and the "pdf" steals control of the keyboard. The arrow keys do not work in other programs. Well, If I hold them down they will then work but it becomes hard to navigate that way. It seems acrobat installs a global keyboard hook in some cases and takes control of the keyboard. This didn't start happening until recently(a few months ago). Note that it doesn't happen on all pdfs and everything returns to normal when the pdf is closed. This seems to be an issue with acrobat... maybe a setting? Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

I am trying to find an .adm or GPO settings so when any users login to the 2003/2008 server using Windows 7/windows xp pro client it will add the keyboard Chinese PRC (one of the inputs that is listed) in the language bar. I need it to be able to: Allow scrolling of the contents of the UIScrollView to see the other text fields once the keyboard is brought up Automatically "jump" (by scrolling up) or shortening I know that I need a UIScrollView. I've tried changing the class of my UIView to a UIScrollView but I'm still unable to scroll the textboxes up or down. Do I need both a UIView and a UIScrollView? Does one go inside the other? [EDIT: I now know that you want a UIView inside of a UIScrollView, and the trick is to programatically set the content size of the UIScrollView to the frame size of the UIView.] Then what needs to be implemented in order to automatically scroll to the active text field? Ideally as much of the setup of the components as possible will be done in Interface Builder. I'd like to only write code for what needs it. Note: the UIView (or UIScrollView) that I'm working with is brought up by a tabbar (UITabBar), which needs to function as normal. Edit: I am adding the scroll bar just for when the keyboard comes up. Even though it's not needed, I feel like it provides a better interface because then the user can scroll and change textboxes, for example. I'm using a virtual keyboard. I have a checkbox that controls whether the virtual keyboard is displayed or not. The thing is that I don't understand how to disable it. I try to unbind it but it doesn't work... How can i find touch typing lesson for words with middle row only

I am learning touch typing. i want practice step by step. Is there any site where i can have the options of the keys to select and then have lesson for those slected keys only. I means i select the keys from keyboard and then system prepares the lesson for only those keys with random combination. Current i want to practice keys asdf gh jkl; Now i am not able to find practice for that whole row only. i mena random combinatins

Why is Gnome-Shell thinking my "d" key minimizes all windows?

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (in gnome-shell) and I am unable to use my "d" key. Regular gnome-2 works perfectly fine, but for some reason I cannot use my "d" key in gnome-3. I recently installed it and have been trying to figure this out, but I have no clue what's going on. I attempted to disable the keyboard shortcut that minimizes active windows, but that did not work. (My only option right now is to use CTRL-V to paste my "d"s.) On top of this, my arrow keys automatically move my windows and I cannot move through text using them. What's going on here, folks?
