  • Best way to communicate between 2 VB.Net apps?

    If I control both applications, what is the best way to communicate between 2 exe's written in VB.Net. For example, I want to drop an XML file from one app, and pick it up with the other, but I do not want poll for the file. I've heard of named pipes, but I found it was complicated. What's the most effecient way to do this?

  • Performing application reliability using iis 6/7

    I have web-services applications, running on Windows Server 2003. These hosts (each of them on separate appPool) contains multiple operations (consulting services). Does exist an approach to perform reliability on these hosts, in terms of appPools? If there is a way to perform it in IIS 7 - or using WCF - I would appreciate the information. Thanks

I do understand that open session in view has issues with: Layered applications running in different jvm's Transactions are committed only at the end, and most probably you would like the results before. But, if you know that your application is running on a single vm, why not ease your pain by using an open session in view strategy?

    As I am familiar with some synthesizers, I often user real life circular sliders (e.g. to control the master volume), also called knobs. Like this one: Sometimes I also find these controls in virtual applications (yes I like extreme minimalism =P): But most of them are irritating, confusing or just wrong, and simple sliders could be used instead, making the UI much better. What are the advantages of circular sliders like the one in the screenshot above? And when do you use them? Thanks

    I have a PC on remote connected by network, but it occasionally crashes or is restarted by remote users. After the restart, some services and applications have to be in running status. So I would like to find out the reboot as soon as possible. I think PS may be a good choice with some scripts so that I could make remote call to get the last reboot timestamp information. Is there any way to get a remote Windows XP last reboot timestamp by using PowerShell 2.0?

    I have been looking around at web applications and websites with rich graphs, charts, and data visualization and for the most part have been able to determine which frameworks or tools websites are using. However I was looking over 'resumup.com' and couldn't determine what they are using. Does anyone know off hand or can you tell?     I have followed these instructions exactly, yet I get a "Page cannot be found" 404 error http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/ My PHP file is <?php phpinfo(); ?> I am running Windows Server 2003 and installed FastCGI and made sure everything is correct per those instructions. I can also create an HTML page and that serves no problem, so it must be an issue with PHP. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    I need to interact with 3'rd party applications by knowing the handle of certain text fields, but the hWnd always changes when that window is recreated. Is there any method that would allow me to identify a window and repeatedly be able to access that window (even after it is closed and then reopened) without having the user manually identify the window? I need the user to be able to identify a window with the usual click, drag and release method but only have to do it once and not every time the target window is recreated.

    Hi, When using visual studio to develop c++ applications, I used to write _asm int 3; and then build the application. When the application is executed, if the code path that has "_asm int 3" is encountered Visual Studio Debugger used to get lauched and I could debug the problems.     I hope this is still programming related, as SuperUser doesn't seem the appropriate place. Basically I wonder if it is possible to have Applications that are internal to a company on the iPhone? That is something like a companion Application to an Intranet (when Safari and Mail just don't cut it) which wouldn't make sense on the AppStore (and likely wouldn't get approved anyway). Is something like that possible (without Jailbreaking or doing anything else that Apple doesn't normally want)?
