  We have a slightly complex Apache 2.2 setup in front of a Tomcat 6.0 instance. The main Tomcat webapp is deployed in: /opt/tomcat/webapps/ROOT But we also have static content that we update semi-regularly. We didn't want to force a new build and deploy of the webapp, so that's stored separately in folders like: /opt/tomcat/webapps/css /opt/tomcat/webapps/foo /opt/tomcat/webapps/bar To handle this from Apache, we use mod_rewrite and rules look something like the following: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/css/(.*)$ - [L] RewriteCond ROOT/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/css/(.*)$ ROOT/$1 [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(jpg|png|html|js)$ - [L] RewriteCond ROOT/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(jpg|png|html|js)$ - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://localhost:8080/$1 [P,L] ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/ I now think I might want to start using mod_jk and I have two questions: Is it even worth using mod_jk? • Debian Unstable + Postfix 2.6.5 + dkim-filter 2.8.2 issue

  I have Postfix installed on Debian Unstable, as the title states, the system is completely up-to-date, I have tried to get DKIM signatures working on outgoing mail using dkim-filter 2.8.2. I couldn't use the default Debian way of doing things with sockets, instead I used the Ubuntu way: SOCKET="inet:12345@localhost"` I have the following in my postfix/main.cf milter_default_action = accept milter_protocol = 6 smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12345 non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:12345 All is fine except I get the following message I start DKIM in mail.log: dkim-filter[22029]: can't configure DKIM library; continuing And when it tries to sign mails I get the following error: postfix/cleanup[22042]: warning: milter inet:localhost:12345: can't read SMFIC_EOH reply packet header: Success And then dkim-filter daemon stops. I've looked through Google but found no actual way to fix this that works for me. I have this working fine on an Ubuntu server but would love to get it working on Debian too.

• Cannot Access Web Interface on HP 2510G

  I am currently setting up a new infrastructure with HP 2510s as edge switches and an HP E5406 as the main switch. I also have a DHCP and DNS server running on the same network. When i first set up one of my 2510 switches, I gave it a static IP through the console and then went to the web interface to continue my configuration. Later, I realized that I assigned it the wrong IP address, so i went through the web interface and changed the IP address to the correct one. Now, I can't access the web interface. I can telnet to the switch on the new IP address, but the web interface will not load. If I switch from static IP to DHCP, it loads the web interface. Any ideas on what could be causing the web server in the 2510 not to load with the new static IP address?

  I have a Postfix email setup. It's handle a few domains (i.e. I have them in my mynetworks in my main.cf). I have a normal unix account and use that to log in, and get my mail. My personal email account is of the form [email protected]. I have a new domain new.com, and I want to forward [email protected] to [email protected], however I don't want to forward [email protected]. Someone has suggested just forwarding all 'info' to 'user', and then using procmail on my user@ account to remove the [email protected] The server is Ubuntu.

• NAS that supports NZB downloading for around £150 ($220) or less (without hard drive)

  I have seen a number of NAS's that are around that price, but I am worried that they may not be able to handle the processing of .rar files (I know that can be quite CPU intensive). Does anyone have any experiences with sabnzbd or hellanzb - or similar on their NAS? In terms of features the main requirement is NZB downloading - I am quite flexible on the other features. Wifi support would be nice, but not essential. Torrent downloading would also be nice. One disk drive would probably be enough. Easy installation of application would be nice... but again I am sure I can follow a tutorial.

  we have a user on Exchange 2010 server who doesn't get email from one specific domain if her address is in cc: field. If she is a main recipient (To:) it goes through. We checked Exchange logs and it looks like our server doesn't even try to deliver it, it simply ignores her email address completely. We did several tests: send email with her email address in cc: field from another domain, succeeded send email with her email address in to: field from another domain, succeeded send email with her email address in to: field from affected domain, succeeded turn off all email rules check via webmail We also turned off firewall, antispam and antivirus for SMTP rule. Does anyone have any idea what could be an issue here? Thanks

• Merging partitions and removing windows of one partition

  I have two partitions on my laptop, I created a new one when installing windows 8 pro because windows 7 wouldn't upgrade to it for some odd reason. The main partition, which has 631 GB ( has windows 7 installed on it, and the second partition is 49.9 GB and has windows 8 installed on it. What I need to do is remove windows 7 from the other one (Yeah its dual booting), make it so it boots straight into windows 8, without showing the dual boot screen, and also merge the two drives together. Only problem is, I have no idea how to do this. Please don't use complete lamens terms, I am a software developer so I know at least a bit about computers. • Understanding DeviceContext and Shaders in Direct3D/SlimDX

  I've been working through this tutorial about drawing triangles with SlimDX, and while it works, I've been trying to structure my program differently than in the tutorial. The tutorial just has everything in the main method, I'm trying to separate components into their own classes. But I'm not sure where certain components belong: namely, contexts and shaders. The tutorial (as it's just rendering one triangle) has one device, one swapchain, one device context and one set of shaders. intuition says that there is only one device/swapchain for one game, but with contexts I don't know. I made a Triangle class and put the vertex stuff in there. Should it also create a context? Should it load its own shaders? Or should I pass some global context and shaders to the triangle class when it is constructed? Or pass the shaders and construct a new context? I'm just getting started with 3D programming, so in addition to answering this question, if anyone knows of a tutorial or article or something about the larger-scale structure of a game, I'd be interested in seeing that as well.

• Redirect URL using Mac OS X Server Lion

  I have just set up a Mac Mini with OS X Lion Server to host my own website. I have registered multiple domain names, but I would like the user to be automatically redirected to my main domain name if they type in one of the others (i.e. if the user types in www.myotherdomain.com the URL will be forwarded instantly to www.mymaindomain.com). In the Web settings of Server.app, you can easily add additional domains (which works) but it does not change the URL in the browser to www.mymaindomain.com. It keeps www.myotherdomain.com whilst still displaying the correct pages. Does the redirects or alias options do what I want? I can't seem to work out how to use them (there seems to be no documentation that I can find). • MySQL installation question.

  I am far from a DBA and have a question. Recently I installed MySQL. On my machine C:\ is a 50GB partition of two mirrored 10k SAS drives. The remaining space on those drives is allocated to D:. I also have a SSD mounted as E:. When I installed MySQL, I installed it to E:\ assuming that that is where the database information would be held since I had installed it there. I am now seeing C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data\peq, peq being the name of my main database. Is my database being stored in C:\ and if so, how do I fix it to store the DB on the SSD?

• Surface RT: To Be Or Not To Be (Part 1)

  So the Surface RT has been out for 9 months and Microsoft just declared a $900 million dollar write-down. So how did this happen and what does it mean for Microsoft’s efforts to break into the tablet market? I have been thinking a lot about most of the information below since the Surface product line was released. If you are looking for a “Microsoft Is Dead” story, then don’t read any further. But if you want an honest look at what I think led Microsoft to this point and what I think can be done to make Surface RT devices better, then please continue reading. What Led Microsoft To The $900 Million Write-Down Surface Unveiling:Microsoft totally missed the boat when they unveiled the Surface product line on June 18th, 2012. Microsoft should’ve been ready to post the specifications of both devices that night. Microsoft should’ve had a site up and running right after the event so people could pre-order the devices. This would have given them a good idea what the interest was in each device.  They could also have used this data to make a better estimate for the number of units to to have available for the launch and beyond.  They also lost out on taking advantage of the excitement generated by the Surface RT and Surface Pro announcement. They could have thrown in a free touch keyboard to anyone who pre-ordered. The advertising should have started right after the announcement and gotten bigger as launch day approached. Push for as many pre-order as possible and build excitement for the launch. Actual Launch (Surface RT): By this time all excitement was gone from the initial announcement, except for the Micorsoft faithful. Microsoft should have been ready to sell the Surface in as many markets as possible at launch. The limited market release was a real letdown for a lot of people.  A limited release right after the initial announce is understandable, but not at the official launch of the product. Microsoft overpriced the device and now they are lowering it to what it should have been to start with. The $349 price is within the range I suggested it should be at before pricing was announced. (Surface Tablets: The Price Must Be Right). Limited ordering options online was also a killer. User should have been able to buy the base unit of each device and then add on whatever keyboard they wanted to (this applies more to the Surface Pro).  There should have also been a place where users could order any additional add-ins that they wanted to buy (covers, extra power supplies, etc.) Marketing was better and the dancing “Click In” commercial was cool, but the ads comparing the iPad with Siri should have been on the air from day one of the announcement (or at least the launch).  Consumers want to know why you tablet is better, not just that is has a clickable keyboard and built-in kickstand. They could have also compared it to some of the other mid-range tablets if they had not overprices it to begin with. Stock Applications (Mail, People, Calendar, Music, Video, Reader and IE): This is where Microsoft really blew it. They had all the time in the world to make these applications the best of breed and instead we got applications that seemed thrown together.  Some updates have made these application better, but they are all still lacking in features that should have been there from day one. This did not help to enhance a new users experience any. ** I will admit that the applications that were data driven were first class citizen’s and that makes it even more perplexing why MS could knock it out of the park with the Weather, Travel, Finance, Bing, etc.) and fail so miserably on the core applications users would use the most on a tablet. Desktop on Tablet: The desktop just is so out of place on the tablet  I understand it was needed for Office but think it would have been better to not have the desktop in Windows RT, but instead open up the Office applications in full screen mode, in a desktop shell (same goes for  IE11).That way the user wouldn’t realize they are leaving Metro and going to the desktop. The other option would have been to just not include Office on Windows RT devices. Instead they could have made awesome Widows Store Apps for Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint. In addition, they could have made the stock Mail, People, and Calendar applications contain all the functions that Outlook gives desktop users. Having some of the settings in desktop mode and others under “Change PC Settings” made Windows RT seemed unfinished and rushed to market. What Can Be Done To Make Windows RT Based Tablets Better (At least in my opinion) Either eliminate the desktop all together from Windows RT or at least make the user experience better by hiding the fact the user is running Office/IE in the desktop. Personally I ‘d like them to totally get rid of it and just make awesome Windows Store Application version of Word, Excel PowerPoint & OneNote.  This might also make the OS smaller and give the user more available disk space. I doubt there will ever be a Windows Store App versions of Office, but I still think it is a good idea. Make is so users can easily direct their documents, picture, videos and music to their extra storage and can access these files from the standard libraries.  A user should not have to create a VM on their microSD card or create symbolic links to get this to work properly. Most consumers would not be able to do this. Then users get frustrated when they run out or room on their main storage because nothing is automatically save to their microSD card when saved to libraries.  This is a major bug that needs to be fixed, otherwise Microsoft’s selling point of having a microSD slot is worthless. Allows users to uninstall and re-install any of the Office product that come with the Surface. That way people can free up storage space by uninstalling the Office applications they do not need. Everyone’s needs are different, so make the options flexible. Don’t take up storage space for applications the user will not use. Make the Core applications the “Cream of the Crop” Windows App Store applications. The should set the bar for all other Store applications. Improve performance as much as possible, if it seems to be sluggish on a tablet consumer will not buy it. They need to price the next line of Surface product very aggressive to undercut not only iPad but also Android low end tablets (Nook, Kindle Fire, and Nexus, etc.) Give developers incentives to write quality applications for the devices. Don’t reward developers for cranking out cookie cutter, low quality applications. I’d even suggest Microsoft consider implementing some new store certification guideline to stop these type of applications being published. Allow users to easily move the recover disk “partition between their microSD card and main storage. My Predictions for the Surface RT and Windows RT I honestly think even with all the missteps MS has made since the announcement  about the Surface product line, that they are on the right path. I was excited the Surface tablets when they were announced, and I still am. The truth be told, Windows 8 on a tablet (aka: Windows RT) is better than both iOS and Android. My nephew who is an Apple fan boy told me after he saw and used Windows 8 (he got the beta running on his iPad), that Windows 8 kicked Apples butt as a tablet OS. So there is hope for all Windows RT based tablets. I agree with my nephew and that is why whenever anyone asks me about my Surface, I love showing it off and recommend it. The 6 keys to gaining market share in the tablet market are; Aggressive pricing by both Microsoft and their OEM’s Good quality devices put out by Microsoft and their OEM’s (there are some out there, but not enough) Marketing, Marketing, Marketing from both Microsoft and their OEM’s (Need more ads showing why windows based tablets are better than iPads and Android tablets) Getting Widows tablets in retails stores all over, and giving sales people incentive to sell them. Consumers like to try electronics out before they buy them, and most will listen to what the sales person suggest. Microsoft needs sales people in retail stores directing people to buy windows based tablets over iPads and Android tablets. I think the Microsoft Stores within Best Buy is a good start, but they also need to get prominent displays in Walmart, Target, etc.. Release a smaller form factor Surface, Hopefully the 8”-10” next generation Surface is not a rumor. Make “Surface” the brand name for all Microsoft tablets and hybrid devices that they come out with. They cannot change the name with each new release.  Make Surface synonymous with quality, the same way that iPad  is for Apple. Well, that is my 2 cents on the subject. • How can I transition from being a "9-5er" to being self-employed?

  Hey, I posted this question last fall about moonlighting, and I feel like I've got a strong case to make to start transitioning from being a Full-Time Employee to being self-employed. So much so, that I find it hard to concentrate at work on the things I'm supposed to be doing. However, self-employment comes with things like no health benefits or guaranteed income... so I don't feel like I can just quit. (At least not in this economy with a house and family). I'm already working 40hrs/wk on my main job, going to school to get my MS, and trying to freelance on weekends and evenings, but I want to give it more time. If I can't take LWOP or just work less than 40hrs/wk I feel like I have to give up self-employment because I just can't give my day job all my best. Would it be reasonable to ask my employer if they can cut my hours (and pay)? Is there something else I can/should do? Has anyone done this transition and had it turn out well? or bad? I am in the USA and I understand answers are not legal advice. Thanks!

In light of this announcement I thought I would put together some thoughts about how I see this development. I think the key word in this announcement is "commercial", nowhere does Oracle announce the "death of GlassFish" in contrary Oracle reaffirm; GlassFish Server Open Source Edition continues to be the strategic foundation for Java EE reference implementation going forward. And for developers, updates will be delivered as needed to continue to deliver a great developer experience for GlassFish Server Open Source Edition so GlassFish is not about to go away soon. In a similar fashion RedHat do not provide commercial support for WildFly and only provide commercial support for JBoss EAP. Admittedly JBoss EAP and WildFly are much closer together than GlassFish and WebLogic but WildFly and JBoss EAP are absolutely NOT the same thing. The key going forward to the viability of GlassFish as a production platform is how the GlassFish community develops; How often does the community release binary builds? How open is the community to bug fixes? How much engineering resource does Oracle commit to GlassFish? At this stage we just don't know the answers to these questions. If the GlassFish open source project continues on it's current trajectory without a commercial support offering then I don't see much of a problem. Oracle just have to work harder to sell migration paths to WebLogic in the same way as RedHat have to sell migration paths from WildFly to JBoss EAP. In the meantime C2B2 continues to offer support for your operational JEE applications running on GlassFish and we will endeavour to work with the community to get any bugs fixed. The current trunk is where an implementation for Java EE 8 will flourish, and this will become the future GlassFish 5.0. Calling "GlassFish is dead" does no good to the Java EE ecosystem. The GlassFish Community will remain strong towards the future of Java EE. Without revenue-focused mind, this might actually help the GlassFish community to shape the next version, and set free from any ties with commercial decisions. Main change is that there will be no more future commercial releases of Oracle GlassFish Server. In parallel, I believe there's no other company in the Java EE business that offers commercial support to more than one build of a Java EE application server. This new direction can actually help customers and partners, simplifying decision through commercial negotiations. Fact #3 - WebLogic is not always more expensive than OGS Oracle GlassFish Server ("OGS") is a build of GlassFish Server Open Source Edition bundled with a set of commercial features called GlassFish Server Control and license bundles such as Java SE Support. OGS has at the moment of this writing the pricelist of U$ 5,000 / processor. One information that some bloggers are mentioning is that WebLogic is more expensive than this. Fact 3.1: it is not necessarily the case. The initial edition of WebLogic is called "Standard Edition" and falls into a policy where some “Standard Edition” products are licensed on a per socket basis. As of current pricelist, US$ 10,000 / socket. If you do the math, you will realize that WebLogic SE can actually be significantly more cost effective than OGS, and a customer can save money if running on a CPU with 4 cores or more for example. Quote from the price list: “When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name (with the exception of Java SE Support, Java SE Advanced, and Java SE Suite), a processor is counted equivalent to an occupied socket; however, in the case of multi-chip modules, each chip in the multi-chip module is counted as one occupied socket.” For more details speak to your Oracle sales representative - this is clearly at list price and every customer typically has a relationship with Oracle (like they do with other vendors) and different contractual details may apply. And although OGS has always been production-ready for Java EE applications, it is no secret that WebLogic has always been more enterprise, mission critical application server than OGS since BEA. Different editions of WLS provide features and upgrade irons like the WebLogic Diagnostic Framework, Work Managers, Side by Side Deployment, ADF and TopLink bundled license, Web Tier (Oracle HTTP Server) bundled licensed, Fusion Middleware stack support, Oracle DB integration features, Oracle RAC features (such as GridLink), Coherence Management capabilities, Advanced HA (Whole Service Migration and Server Migration), Java Mission Control, Flight Recorder, Oracle JDK support, etc. Fact #4 - There’s no major vendor supporting community builds of Java EE app servers There are no major vendors providing support for community builds of any Open Source application server. For example, IBM used to provide community support for builds of Apache Geronimo, not anymore. Red Hat does not commercially support builds of WildFly and if I remember correctly, never supported community builds of former JBoss AS. Oracle has never commercially supported GlassFish Server Open Source Edition builds. Tomitribe appears to be the exception to the rule, offering commercial support for Apache TomEE. Fact #5 - WebLogic and GlassFish share several Java EE implementations It has been no secret that although GlassFish and WebLogic share some JSR implementations (as stated in the The Aquarium announcement: JPA, JSF, WebSockets, CDI, Bean Validation, JAX-WS, JAXB, and WS-AT) and WebLogic understands GlassFish deployment descriptors, they are not from the same codebase. Fact #6 - WebLogic is not for GlassFish what JBoss EAP is for WildFly WebLogic is closed-source offering. It is commercialized through a license-based plus support fee model. OGS although from an Open Source code, has had the same commercial model as WebLogic. Still, one cannot compare GlassFish/WebLogic to WildFly/JBoss EAP. It is simply not the same case, since Oracle has had two different products from different codebases. The comparison should be limited to GlassFish Open Source / Oracle GlassFish Server versus WildFly / JBoss EAP. Is there any way to calculate to what battery time this amounts in hours ? I mean how many hours will the 24 Wh last (at normal operation - eg. writing a document - not watching video), else the +254% is a pretty useless number... Also anybody knows whether 4 cells means 4 times 24 Wh, or 24 Wh in total?

• Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

  I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

• Can I drive two external screens from an 'Alu' iMac?

  I've got a 24" 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac. It's about 18 months old, though I can't specifically remember when I bought it. It has a Displayport Mini-DVI socket on the back, and currently I have that linked to a DVI adaptor driving a Philips 20" widescreen monitor in portrait mode (awesome for browsing). I have another, identical Philips monitor and wondered if there was a way of connecting that to the iMac too. Is there such a thing as a DisplayPort Mini-DVI to dual-DVIs adaptor? Can this iMac's graphics card even drive such a set-up? The graphics chipset in the iMac is reported as ATI Radeon HS2600, 256 MB. The main iMac display is 1920x1200 and the Philips display is 1050x1680 (@60Hz, rotated 90 degrees). The third screen would be another 1050x1680 and ideally I'd have it portrait again, too. EDIT: Please let this question stand - it's not a dupe. The current Mac laptops use 'Mini Displayport' connectors, which are not the same as DisplayPort Mini-DVI connectors.

  I'm getting started with GLSL with quartz composer. I have a patch with a particle system in which each particle is mapped into a sphere with a blend value. With blend=0 particles are in random positions, blend=1 particles are in the sphere. • Macbook Pro Multiple Monitor Problem

  I have been using a Macbook pro (newest model) for about 4 weeks with dual monitors. It has been working great using the mac adaptor to dvi. Today however, my mac will not recognize it's built in monitor while the second monitor is plugged in. Plug in second monitor The screen on the laptop goes dark. The second monitor acts as the main screen. Click "Detect displays". Nothing happens Unplug the second monitor Screen on the laptop comes on. Any thoughts?

  Distro: Ubuntu 12.04.2 Server 32-bit Server client: vsftpd 2.3.5 (from default "main" repository) Problem: Since upgrading from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 12.04 (nothing changed on client-side), vsftp has refused to make chroot-jails with the "chroot_local_user" directive on FTP(e/i)S-connections. Try to connect with an FTP user client and upload some files. With my setup, the above listed config works well at this point. Edit /etc/vsftpd.conf and set chroot_local_user= to YES. Make sure that chroot_list_enable= and/or chroot_list_file= are not set. Comment them out if they are. Save and exit. Run sudo restart vsftpd (or sudo service vsftpd restart if you like) in a terminal. Try to connect with an FTP user client. You should see a message more or less like this: GnuTLS error -15: An unexpected TLS packet was received. This is an issue for me, as I do not want FTP-sessions to be able to list files outside the user's home folder. I have checked with several client-side apps, and I get the same results with every one of them. Filezilla is not so good regarding cipher methods nowadays, but as I am able to make an FTP(e)s-connection over TLS (as long as chroot'ing is disabled and ssl_ciphers is set to HIGH) I have a feeling ciphers are not the issue this time, and that I won't find the answer by tweaking configs on the client side. My vsftpd.log stays empty, even though debug_ssl and log_ftp_protocol are enabled, so no info there either.

• Design pattern for window management in a Java Swing app

  I've just started creating my very first little Java Swing app. When the program opens, it brings up a single, simple window with a label and a couple buttons. Clicking one of those buttons is supposed to wipe out the welcome screen and replace it with a totally different panel. I'm not sure what the best way to create that functionality is. One method would be to pass my JFrame as an argument into... just about every other component, but that feels hacky to me. Or, there's making each panel double as an action listener, but that doesn't seem right, either. Is there a design pattern I should be applying here? "Replace the contents of the main — and only — window" must be a reasonably common operation. A name for the pattern would be enough; I can use Google on my own from there. (I wouldn't say no to a longer explanation, though.)

My demands for writing this particular piece of code were: Must be able to center variable and fixed width content vertically and horizontally Centered content must be inside the normal document flow (so no overlapping) Sticky footer and normal header of 100% width As few hacks, ugly code or non-semantic html as possible I didn't care about support for IE6, IE7 (I'll use a different stylesheet for them) The weird thing is that the demands above are only met when the header and footer are set to table-row, and the body-tag to display:table. Which is weird because as I understand it the css will generate anonymous table elements when parent table elements are missing. So table-cell should work without all the surrounding elements, but yet I've not been able to make it work. If it were up to me I would prefer to not mess with the display mode for the body tag, and leave the header and footer on display:block. But I've not been able to make it work. Does anyone understand why this doesn't work?

  I am translating in my main class render. I was told to do this worldX = mouseX + camX; but it didn't work the mouse was still off.
