  • Possible to draw a select portion of a render target? (in XNA)

    - by TheBroodian
I'm going to try to do this in reverse fashion and skip straight to the punch line, and then give the back story afterward: Is it possible to, after drawing a scene to a RenderTarget2D, only draw a select portion of the RenderTarget2D, if I don't want the entire thing? I'm using xTile to manage world data in my game (it's a great piece of work, colinvella [xTile's author] has made an amazing product), and for the most part it works great. xTile supports parallax effects in its layers to add some wonderful depth to 2d scenes, which was great, until I implemented a dynamic split-screen system into my game. Wanted to make a co-op game that wouldn't require players to be in close proximity to each other, so I made it so that if the players separate too far apart, the singular full-screen viewport 'snaps-apart', and is replaced by two split-screen viewports, which then smoothly transition to their respective player targets. The effect is pretty smooth aside from the part where the parallax backgrounds become skewed once the viewports split, because xTile's ratio for handling parallax effects is dependent upon viewport size. This is unfortunate, because the effect would otherwise be really snazzy, but the backgrounds become pretty heavily affected when the game goes from single-viewport to multi-viewport. So, Colinvella suggests using rendertargets to record the scene at full viewport size, and then only drawing a portion of it. But as far as I can tell, that isn't even possible? That being said, I've never even used render targets before, so I'm still learning, hence the question here.

  • Hyper-V Manager version 6.2, an experience in virtual switch setup

    - by Kevin Shyr
The version number of Hyper-V manager is 6.2.9200.16384   This is what came with my Windows 8 work laptop (by enabling Windows features) The blogs I read indicated that I need an external switch for my guest OS to access internet, and an internal one for them to share folder with my Host OS.  I proceeded to create an external virtual switch, and here is the screenshot. After setting up the network adapters on the guest OS, I peeked into host OS networking, and saw that Network Bridge was already created.  GREAT!  So I fired up my guest OS and darn, no internet.  Then I noticed that my host internet was gone, too.  I looked further and found that even though I have a network bridge, no connection has the status "Bridged"Once I removed the bridge (by removing individual connection from the bridge, I know, weird, since none of them say "Bridged" in status)  I re-selected the connection that I want and add them to the bridge to create a new network bridge.  Once my wireless connection status shows "Bridged", I was able to get to internet from my guest OS.Two things I noticed after I got internet for everyone ( my host and guest OS):My network adapters in the host OS no longer shows "Bridged", but everyone can still get to the internetThe virtual switch that I set up for "External" is now showing to be "Internal", and I was able to create shared folder between host and guest OS.  This means I didn't have to create the other "Internal" virtual switch.

  • Changing the Default Windows Phone 7 Deployment Target In Visual Studio 2010

    - by mbcrump
After you download and install the January 2011 Windows Phone update, you will notice one annoying thing. The default deployment target for Windows Phone Projects in Visual Studio changes to Windows Phone 7 Device. Before the update, it defaulted to the Emulator. I found this extremely annoying as I’m more than likely going to test with the emulator before putting it on my actual device. Now to make things fair, Microsoft told you they were going to switch the default and even provided a solution, but you will have to check a tiny paragraph in the release notes. The good news is that its very easy to do: Simply navigate out to : %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Phone Tools\CoreCon See the folder named, “10.0”? Go ahead and delete it. Now, the folder will be completely empty and if you fire up Visual Studio 2010 you will see we are now defaulting to the Emulator again. In my opinion, this should have been left at Emulator. Now, new WP7 developers will get a build error when they first start a WP7 project and will not know why until they read the error list.  Subscribe to my feed CodeProject

  • Outlook macro runs through 250 iterations before failing with error [migrated]

    - by Senoculus
Description: I have an Outlook macro that loops through selected emails in a folder and writes down some info to a .csv file. It works perfectly up until 250 before failing. Here is some of the code: Open strSaveAsFilename For Append As #1 CountVar = 0 For Each objItem In Application.ActiveExplorer.Selection DoEvents If objItem.VotingResponse <> "" Then CountVar = CountVar + 1 Debug.Print " " & CountVar & ". " & objItem.SenderName Print #1, & objItem.SenderName & "," & objItem.VotingResponse Else CountVar = CountVar + 1 Debug.Print " " & CountVar & ". " & "Moving email from: " & Chr(34) & objItem.SenderName & Chr(34) & " to: Special Cases sub-folder" objItem.Move CurrentFolderVar.Folders("Special Cases") End If Next Close #1 Problem After this code runs through 250 emails, the following screenshot pops up: http://i.stack.imgur.com/yt9P8.jpg I've tried adding a "wait" function to give the server a rest so that I'm not querying it so quickly, but I get the same error at the same point.

  • Help with dual booting Windows 8.1 Professional and Ubuntu 13.10

    - by user1292548
I recently installed a clean version of Windows 8.1 Professional on my Lenovo Y500 (with Samsung 256GB 840 Pro SSD). I have Windows all set up and running normally. I am trying to dual boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 13.10, but the installation procedure don't allow me to either "Install alongside..." or shows my SSD partitions correctly when I chose the "Something Else" option. I have created a 25GB partition of free space in the Windows disk manager, but on the installation screen on Ubuntu, it shows the whole drive as a free space. I have tried installing with a burned .ISO disk and a bootable USB, the results are the same for both. Windows Disk Management screen: http://imageshack.us/a/img855/9504/59zu.jpg The Ubuntu installation screen: http://imageshack.us/a/img62/2712/9g6i.jpg I've ran into this problem before when trying to dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 7 Professional a month ago. But I gave up and never resolved the issue. --EDIT-- I tried what Eero Aaltonen suggested, and this is my result: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo parted /dev/sda print Warning: /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using an msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table? Yes/No? yes Model: ATA Samsung SSD 840 (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 256GB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: gpt Number Start End Size File system Name Flags ubuntu@ubuntu:~$

  • root directory - www or public_html

    - by Phil Jackson
Is the root directory where all files are kept (directly from accessing from FTP) always "www" or "public_html" depending on what OS? Or is it possible to rename this folder? And if so, what would be unique about this folder to be able to identify it? i.e. currently I just wrote this; my $root; my $ftp = Net::FTP->new($DB_ftpserver, Debug => 0) or die "Cannot connect to some.host.name: $@"; $ftp->login($DB_ftpuser, $DB_ftppass) or die "Cannot login ", $ftp->message; my @list = $ftp->dir; if( scalar @list != 0 ) { foreach( @list ){ if( $_ =~ m/www$/g ){ $root = "www"; last; }elsif( $_ =~ m/public_html$/g ){ $root = "public_html"; last; } } } but would not work if it has a different name. Any help much appreciated.

I'm trying to send an email through Google from my localhost. (via PHP5.3) But Google keeps on blocking my requests. • How can I triple boot Xubuntu, Ubuntu and Windows?

    - by ag.restringere
Triple Booting Xubuntu, Ubuntu and Windows I'm an avid Xubuntu (Ubuntu + XFCE) user but I also dual boot with Windows XP. I originally created 3 partitions and wanted to use the empty one as a storage volume but now I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (the one with Unity) to do advanced testing and packaging. Ideally I would love to keep these two totally separate as I had problems in the past with conflicts between Unity and XFCE. This way I could wipe the Ubuntu w/ Unity installation if there are problems and really mess around with it. My disk looks like this: /dev/sda1 -- Windows XP /dev/sda2 -- Disk /dev/sda: 200.0 GB, 200049647616 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24321 cylinders, total 390721968 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 63 78139454 39069696 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 78141440 156280831 39069696 83 Linux /dev/sda3 156282878 386533375 115125249 5 Extended /dev/sda4 386533376 390721535 2094080 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda5 156282880 386533375 115125248 83 Linux Keep each in it's own partition and totally separate and be able to select from each of the three systems from the GRUB boot menu... sda1 --- [Windows XP] sda2 --- [Ubuntu 12.04] "Unity" sda3(4,5) -- [Xubuntu 12.02] "Primary XFCE" What is the safest and easiest way to do this without messing my system up and requiring invasive activity?

  • Remove Sync Center icon

    - by Edward Brey
I accidentally marked a shared folder as "Available Offline" in Windows Explorer on Windows 8.1 computer. This seems to have "woken up" the Sync Center and caused the Sync Center icon to be displayed in the system notification area. Even though I've undid that by marking the folder as not available offline, and furthermore have reset CSC and disabled Offline Files, the Sync Center icon still appears in the overflow section of the system notification area. How do I remove the Sync Center icon and preferably disable the process that is displaying it? Debugging info: The registry shows that stuff is enabled, even though the Sync Center and Offline Files dialog don't indicate that anything is active. • Resizing partition in VMware Fusion didn't work

    - by Robot
I migrated a Parallels VM to VMware Fusion. That worked well, although the original partition size was way too small (8GB). Following some instructions from VMware, I used the Fusion GUI to extend the size of the disk to 20GB, and then I booted from a GPartEd LiveCD to grow the C: partition to the full 20GB. That seemed to work, and I can see that the disk is 20GB in Disk Manager, but it still thinks the actual partition is 8GB. Here is a screenshot of it. What can I do to get the entire 20GB usable?

Windows Storage Server 2003 We have Shadow Copy (VSS) enabled for one volume. However Previous Version tab is not visible on the server on properties dialogs on any file or folder on that volume. We don't want this tab to be visible on the clients, just on the server. I've checked the VSS settings and they're definitly enabled for the volume. I'm stuck! Do I have to install the client-software on the server? The folder \%systemroot%\system32\clients\twclient contains 3 empty subdirs (location copies from docs)...

  • Accessing second hard drive

    - by Jonathan
So I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on my computer. I installed it on my 60gb SSD hard drive, and in the installation it never acknowledged the existence of my second hard drive. The hard drive that I keep all my files on, and which I want to make my home folder if I can, is a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB cache (WD1002FAEX). I've read the following: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount but honestly cannot work out how to access the hard drive from my Ubuntu installation. I did have Windows 7 64-bit prior to installing Ubuntu. I have backed up all the files on the hard drive, but if I could just access them straight off that would be super cool. Does anyone know how I can use the second hard drive? Thank you for your help EDIT: The following directories are currently in my /dev/ folder: ati/, block/, bsg/, bus/, char/, cpu/, isk/, input/, mapper/, net/, pktcdvd/, pts/, shm/, snd/, and usb/ EDIT: Result from sudo fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 60.0 GB, 60022480896 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7297 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x000d2dfd Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 6994 56174592 83 Linux /dev/sda2 6994 7298 2438145 5 Extended /dev/sda5 6994 7298 2438144 82 Linux swap / Solaris @djeykib So very close to fixing it.. unfortunately on the last command you gave it says this: $ sudo apt-get install linux-lts-backport-natty Reading package lists... If the file's size and modification time are unchanged, it assumes its contents are unchanged: $ hg init . $ cp -p .sccs2hg/2005-06-05_00\:00\:00\,nicstat.c nicstat.c $ ls -ogE nicstat.c -rw-r--r-- 1 14722 2012-08-24 11:22:48.819451726 -0700 nicstat.c $ hg add nicstat.c $ hg commit -m "added nicstat.c" $ cp -p .sccs2hg/2005-07-02_00\:00\:00\,nicstat.c nicstat.c $ ls -ogE nicstat.c -rw-r--r-- 1 14722 2012-08-24 11:22:48.819451726 -0700 nicstat.c $ hg diff $ hg commit nothing changed $ touch nicstat.c $ hg diff diff -r b49cf59d431d nicstat.c --- a/nicstat.c Fri Aug 24 11:21:27 2012 -0700 +++ b/nicstat.c Fri Aug 24 11:22:50 2012 -0700 @@ -2,7 +2,7 @@ * nicstat - print network traffic, Kb/s read and written. Yes, I feel it is an acceptable shortcut because in "real" situations an edit to a file will change the modification time by at least one second (the resolution that hg diff or hg commit is looking for). The benefit of the shortcut is greatly improved performance of operations like "hg diff" and "hg status", particularly where your repository contains a lot of files. Why did I have no change in modification time? Well, my source file was generated by a script that I have written to convert SCCS change history to Mercurial commits. If my script can generate two revisions of a file within a second, and the files are the same size, then I run afoul of this shortcut. Solution - I will just change my script to apply the modification time from the SCCS history to the file prior to commit. A "touch -t " will do that easily.

  • How To Create An FTP User That Has Permission To EVERYTHING

    - by Serg
I've spent the last two hours trying to create an FTP user so I can transfer some files over to my Wordpress blog folder. /var/www/sergiotapia.me I'm using vsftpd and Ubuntu 12.04 for my FTP server and I've read tons of documentation, none of which seem to work. I still cannot log in with the FTP user, let alone test if I even have the read/write file permissions. Can a Linux guru here, help me out with a small step by step? I'm comfortable with the terminal and nano, so that's not an issue - I'll SSH into my box. Just tell me what to do and what commands to run. Specifically, this user needs to have read and write access to the /var/ folder and anything within it. I want to have 1 user that can do whatever the heck he wants on my Ubuntu 12.04 VPS machine.

  • wireless blocked after installing ubuntu 12.04

    - by Cornelia Frank
I am using a lenovo S10-3 ideapad; had no problems with earlier version of ubuntu, only since installing 12.04. Have looked through many of the questions on the same issue and tried potential solutions but cannot seem to solve my problem. The hardware switch is in 'on' position and the wireless light comes on very briefly (2-3 sec) when the laptop starts up but then goes off and stays off. Pressing FN+F5 does nothing at all. I'd be grateful for any assistance. • OpenGL - Rendering from part of an index and vertex array depending on an element count

    - by user1423893
I'm currently drawing my shapes as lines by using a VAO and then assigning the dynamic vertices and indices each frame. // Bind VAO glBindVertexArray(m_vao); // Update the vertex buffer with the new data (Copy data into the vertex buffer object) glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, numVertices * sizeof(VertexPosition), m_vertices.data(), GL_DYNAMIC_DRAW); // Update the index buffer with the new data (Copy data into the index buffer object) glBufferData(GL_ELEMENT_ARRAY_BUFFER, numIndices * sizeof(unsigned short), indices.data(), GL_DYNAMIC_DRAW); glDrawElements(GL_LINES, numIndices, GL_UNSIGNED_SHORT, BUFFER_OFFSET(0)); // Unbind VAO glBindVertexArray(0); What I would like to do is draw the lines using only part of the data stored in the index and vertex buffer objects. The vertex buffer has its vertices set from an array of defined maximum size: std::array<VertexPosition, maxVertices> m_vertices; The index buffer has its elements set from an array of defined maximum size: std::array<unsigned short, maxIndices> indices = { 0 }; A running total is kept of the number of vertices and indices needed for each draw call numVertices numIndices Can I not specify that the buffer data contain the entire array and only read from part of it when drawing? For example using the vertex buffer object glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, numVertices * sizeof(VertexPosition), m_vertices.data(), GL_DYNAMIC_DRAW); m_vertices.data() = Entire array is stored numVertices * sizeof(VertexPosition) = Amount of data to read from the entire array Is this not the correct way to approach this? I do not wish to use std::vector if possible.

  • How to force-resize a window in OS X ?

    - by cwd
I remember from my Windows XP days that there was a utility that would let me re-size non-re-sizable windows. Is there something like that on OS X? I'm using PandoraJam and it is sort of iframing the pandora player. Pandora has recently changed the size of the player and PandoraJam has not caught up. I can hit the green zoom button but that changes it to a much bigger player with ads. It would be nice if there was a utility that would just let me force-resize it. This would also be handy for a few other apps too. Thanks!

  • Taking over and Moving a PHP site

    - by KCavon
I have a internal use PHP site at my new position. It only runs a few days a year off site so we keep it on laptops. The hardware it has been on, a 8 year IBM Thinkpad running Fedora, is dying. I have new Lenovo Thinkpad's running latest and greatest Ubuntu. I have copied the contents of var to a shared drive, renamed the old www folder in var on the new machine and copied over the old www folder. I can get to the login page and into the site, but when I look something up it returns Cannot Open. I know I cannot get to the MySQL in the new machine because users and passwords dont match. The version of the PHP from the old machine is before the setup script was included. I know very little about PHP. I am looking for input on the proper way to link the old PHP files to my mysql instance. Any help, much appreciated.

  • NTFS write speed really slow (<15MB/s)

    - by Zulakis
I got a new Seagate 4TB harddrive formatted with ntfs using parted /dev/sda > mklabel gpt > mkpart pri 1 -1 mkfs.ntfs /dev/sda1 When copying files or testing writespeed with dd, the max writespeed I can get is about 12MB/s. The harddrive should be capable of atleast 100MB/s. top shows high cpu usage for the mount.ntfs process. The system has a AMD dualcore. This is the output of parted /dev/sda unit s print: Model: ATA ST4000DM000-1F21 (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 7814037168s Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B Partition Table: gpt Number Start End Size File system Name Flags 1 2048s 7814035455s 7814033408s pri The used kernel is 3.5.0-23-generic. The ntfs-3g versions I tried are ntfs-3g 2012.1.15AR.1 (ubuntu 12.04 default) and the newest version ntfs-3g 2013.1.13AR.2. When formatted with ext4 I get good write speeds with about 140MB/s. How can I fix the writespeed?
