  • Django + Ajax

    - by Joe
So, I am just starting to use jQuery with one of my Django projects, but I have a pretty noobie question. In a django view you have to return an HttpResponse object from the view, but sometimes I don't need to return anything. For instance, I might just be updating the database via ajax and don't need to send anything back. So my question is, what do you do in that situation? Thanks

  • Is it possible to create a DateFormatter which converts a two-digit year into a four-digit year?

    - by DR
In my Java application I use a DateFormat instance to parse date inputs. DateFormat fmt; fmt = DateFormat.getDateInstance(DateFormat.DEFAULT) // dd.MM.yyyy for de_DE The problem is that the user insists to enter dates in the form 31.12.11. Unfortunately this is parsed to 31.12.11. (0011-12-31 in ISO format) Instead I want the parsed date to become 31.12.2011 (2011-12-31 in ISO format). Can I modify the date format to somehow parse inputs that way?

  • Rails - best way to display code only in production?

    - by jyoseph
I have a few pieces of code that I would like to display only in production, for instance, the showing of disqus comments. What is the best way to go about doing that? Currently I have: <% if RAILS_ENV.eql?('production') %> disqus code here <% end %> But I am not sure if that's the best method, or is that it? Seems pretty verbose and I would need this in a few different places in the application.

  • Explain this C++ operator definition

    - by David Johnstone
I have the following operator defined in a C++ class called StringProxy: operator std::string&() { return m_string; } a) What is this and how does this work? I understand the idea of operator overloading, but they normally look like X operator+(double i). b) Given an instance of StringProxy, how can I use this operator to get the m_string?

  • How to check which action method rendered the current view (from within the current view) ?

    - by Richard77
Hello, I would like to know how to check which action displayed the current View (from the current view). For instance, to check if controller myController originated the rendering (I guess) I can write: <% if(ViewContext.Controller is myApplication.Controllers.myController)%> In fact, I want to use the same View model for 2 actions methods, like this: <% If( First Action rendered this view){%> // Display this <%} else {%> //Display that <%}%> Thanks for helping

  • Correct way to read configuration file and using configuration values

    - by Harza
I'm reading applications .config file using .NET ConfigurationManager like it should be done, but .... Which one is most preferred option: Read config and store instance of (build in or custom) ConfigurationElement for later use Read config and store only needed values (but not instances of ConfigrationElement classes) for later use Read ConfigurationElement from config always when configuration values are needed These two things are in my mind: Performance impact in case 3 when reading config all the time Problems occuring in case 1 when using cached instances of ConfigurationElements

  • Handling multiple HTTP requests from one source (e.g.a hacker)

    - by Haraldo
Hi there, I have a script to handle http requests. I'm trying to think of some of the security issues I might have with it. My biggest concern at the moment is how I can manage multiple requests from the same source over and over. For instance someone trying to shut down my system. Do I need to be concerned or will Apache handling this issue. If not what is the best approach to take using php? Thanks,

  • Injection of class with multiple constructors

    - by Jax
Resolving a class that has multiple constructors with NInject doesn't seem to work. public class Class1 : IClass { public Class1(int param) {...} public Class1(int param2, string param3) { .. } } the following doesn’t seem to work: IClass1 instance = IocContainer.Get<IClass>(With.Parameters.ConstructorArgument(“param”, 1)); The hook in the module is simple, and worked before I added the extra constructor: Bind().To(); Thanks in advance...

  • How can I "merge", "flatten" or "pivot" results from a query which returns multiple rows into a sing

    - by dsm
I have a simple query over a table, which returns results like the following: id id_type id_ref 2702 5 31 2702 16 14 2702 17 3 2702 40 1 2702 26 4 And I would like to merge the results into a single row, for instance: id concatenation 2702 5,16,17,40,26:31,14,3,1,4 Is there any way to do this within a trigger? NB: I know I can use a cursor, but I would really prefer not to unless there is no better way.

  • Add subview to another view

    - by Martol1ni
With two ViewControllers, MyView 1 and MyView 2, is there possible to add a subview to MyView2 from MyView1.m? I have tried: MyView2 * screen = [[MyView2 alloc]initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; [screen.view addSubView:mySubView]; But my new instance of MyView 2 has no connection to the 'visible' ViewController on MyView2, right? To clarify, the ViewController that is showing, is MyView1. I want MyView1 to be able to add a subview to the MyView2 view. Thanks

  • What does /*!*/ mean in C#?

    - by Tristan
I'm new to C# and am reading code with /*!*/ in what seem like strange places. For instance class methods defined as: protected override OptionsParser/*!*/ CreateOptionsParser() protected override void ParseHostOptions(string/*!*/[]/*!*/ args) Unfortunately /*!*/ is not googleable. What does it mean?

  • Filename of script that instantiates an object

    - by Calvin L
In PHP, is it possible to get the file name of the script that instantiated an object? For example I have a script called file.php that creates a new instance of class Class. The class has an Error object that, when triggered, returns some error information. I would like to show that file.php triggered the error.

  • unix shell, redirect output but keep on stdin

    - by Mike
I'd like to have a shell script redirect stdout of a child process in the following manner Redirect stdout to a file Display the output of the process in real time I know I could do something like #!/bin/sh ./child > file cat file But that would not display stdout in real time. For instance, if the child was #!/bin/sh echo 1 sleep 1 echo 2 The user would see "1" and "2" printed at the same time

  • replace NA in an R vector with adjacent values

    - by pssguy
I have a dataframe which has merged player and team data for soccer seasons So for a particular player in a specific season I have data like df <- data.frame(team=c(NA,"CRP",NA,"CRP","CRP",NA), player=c(NA,"Ed",NA,"Ed","Ed",NA), playerGame= c(NA,1,NA,2,3,NA), teamGame =c(1,2,3,4,5,6)) Where the NA's indicate that the player did not appear in that specific team game How would I most efficiently replace the team and player NA's with "CRP" and "Ed" respectively and have a plGame output of, in this instance, 0,1,1,2,3,3

  • Alternative for assigns() in Cucumber with Capybara?

    - by thillerson
I'm trying out capybara with cucumber to get some better javascript test coverage. I have a lot of steps that check or use things from the Rails integration test helpers, for instance: assigns(:current_user).should_not be_nil No matter how I call assigns, even if I say something like p assigns it errors with: undefined method `template' for nil:NilClass (NoMethodError) So, it seems that I can't do that anymore. Is there an alternative to introspecting what's going on in the controller, or maybe some way of at least running those steps in such a way that I have the integration test stuff back?

  • RegEx to reverse order of list?

    - by quantomcat
Is there a singular regular expression that can be used in, say, a text editor's search/replace dialog to reverse the order of the items in a list? For instance, take this list: First item Second item Third item Select it in a text editor like EditPad, bring up the search and replace box, apply a regex (run as a loop or not) and turn it into: Third item Second item First item Can this be done?

  • Spawning a interactive process

    - by notnoop
How can a Java application spawn a new interactive application (e.g. an command line editor) from Java/Scala? When I use Runtime.getRuntime().exec("vim test"), I would only get a Process instance, while vim would be running in the background; rather then appear to the user.
