• Am I allowed to subclass UIWebView?

  I just want to clear this up once and for all, is it ok to subclass a UIWebView? Will I ever have to be nervous about apple rejecting the app because of a UIWebView subclass? The documentation states: Subclassing Notes The UIWebView class should not be subclassed. But at the same time Apple contradicts itself with this WWDC video: https://developer.apple.com/videos/wwdc/2011/?id=511#rich-text-editing-in-safari-on-ios In slide 41 they specifically talk about subclassing a UIWebView Thanks in advance!

• Flow of packets in network

  I can't visualize in my mind the network traffic flow. eg. If there are 15 pc's in a LAN When packet goes from router to local LAN, do it passes all the computers? Does it go to the ethernet card of every computer and those computers accept the packet based on their physical address? To which pc the packet will go first? To the nearest to the router? What happens if that first pc captures that packet(though it is not for it)? What happens when a pc broadcast a message? Do it have to generate 14 packets for all the pc's or only one packet reach to all pc's? If it is one packet and captured by first pc, how other pc's can get that? I can't imagine how this traffic is exactly flows? May be my analogy is completely wrong. Can anybody explain me this?

  I get numerous requests from executives and users for new smaller laptops for travel purposes. Most of my evaluation is based upon whether or not it can run certain applications. Mainly lotus notes, office, and video. Most of the laptops include windows 7 OS, and are fully loaded with ram, a high-end processor and a integrated graphics card. My boss whats me to document the usefulness of the laptop and performance. I'm just a little confused on how to setup a document that can be used by members of the IT department for future evaluations.

• switch duplicates packets and forward in two route

  there is a network including a router, two hosts and a switch which connects hosts to router. i have a virtual machine on my system. the network adapter is set to act as bridge. so the virtual machine and real OS are my 2 hosts on different LAN. they use one network card and are connected to a switch. when each of host send a packet to the other one, the switch duplicate the packet and forward it to both router and the other host. how can I solve the duplicate packet problem?   Hi, how can program runnig on CPU (mostly OS) acess other PC hardware? Such as Graphic card, HDD and so? From what I read, In DOS, this was done using BIOS calls, specifically INT instruction. But, int instruction should only jump to the certain space in RAM. So, how can some program stored in RAM acess other computer HW, when CPU can acess only RAM, and reeive interrupts? And, does windows use int instructions as well, or is there any new way to communicate with HW? Thanks.

  Recently I bought an Intel Core i7 Dell laptop fully integrated. I have an ATi Radeon 1 gb ram graphic card and so on. Everything works fine even the brightness, but when I try the multi touch multi finger(touchpad which enables two or more finger) the pointer jump and go there and go here and so It's very annoying because when I'm trying to write this question I cannot let the pointer be cool! when I accidentally the touchpad it is very annoying. • Windows 7 x64 Hard Freezing (again)

  Awhile ago, my computer was randomly freezing a few minutes after booting, and I ended up replacing the CPU and mobo after testing the RAM and hard drive, I also couldn't find anything wrong with the video card. So after replacing the presumably faulty hardware, everything worked fine for about a month and a half. All of a sudden, My computer is randomly freezing a few minutes after loading up any intensive application (games, mostly). Most of the time it just freezes with the current frame until I hard reset, although once it printed a BSOD message stating that dxgmms1.sys was to blame. The only difference between these two episodes I can think of is that I can do word/internet/work without issue now, as opposed to the near uselessness my computer was rendered last time. For those of you who want to know, I tested my memory with memtest86 (for 64 bit machines). I can't figure out what could have started this latest round of issues, the event logger just states that a kernel-power event has occurred (like last time) but I think thats just a generic "this machine has rebooted after a sudden shutdown" message.

• VPN ipsec tunnel from router to single windows server computer (gateway-to-host)

  Firstly, is this possible? The situation: 2 different ISP's. One has several servers and a firewall running. The other is limited to only one virtual server with one network card running windows server 2008r2. I need to set up a site-to-site style VPN using IPsec between the firewall of one ISP and the windows host on the other (gateway-to-host). This host has to run a SQL-Server that I can access from the other ISP's servers through the VPN tunnel. It seems looking at the RFC for IPsec that this should be possible using the features of Windows 2008, but I can't get it to work so far... It seems that I can't access any services running on the same computer or IP address used as the tunnel endpoint? Thanks Chris

• Wifilink 5100 AGN mass update

  We are using a Meru enterprise wireless network with 180 APs. Recently, many users connections are dropping frequently. After much troubleshooting, we have determined much of the trouble is due to some settings in the advanced properties of the wireless nic on our notebooks. Now we want to send out the changes in a Zenworks bundle, but I cannot find these settings in the registry or anywhere we might be able to send out as a remote package. Does anyone know where to find these settings for an Intel wifilink 5100 card other that the NIC properties itself? We really do not want to manually configure 600 notebooks.

• Blocked port 25 on Windows 7 64 bit

  Strange problem. I have 2 computers connected to Wifi router. One with Windows Vista & second with 2 operating systems: SUSe Linux and Windows 7 64bit on it. Computer with Vista can connect to SMTP server of my email provider (and any other) using port 25, and can connect to a mail server using telnet mail.server.com 25 if this port is open. Computer with dual operating system can (using Linux) do the same. The same computer, with the same hardware (Wifi card etc.), and using the same WiFi router, cannot however use Port 25 and cannot Telnet into any smtp server. So the problem is in Windows 7. I did uninstall all antivirus software and disabled the firewall. The problem is still here. Is there way how find out which software is blocking this port?

  I have a 64-bit dell laptop which I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Since then, it's creating a havoc in my life. The metro apps are not working; the system crashes once in a while and none of my games are running because I don't have the correct drivers for my graphics card (ATI 5000 series). Some days back, Windows downloaded an update and prompted me to restart. After that day, whenever I log in and fire up my desktop, I get all kinds of blue screen errors. The most common one looks something like this: - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Please help me with how I can fix this, optionally how to go back to windows 7. Thanks.

• How to disable 3G USB Modem internal storage from being loaded by linux kernel?

  Hi, I've got a problem with my 3G modem [Huawei E122]. It has internal storage and kernel assigns a device [/dev/sdX] to it. Because of that, every second time my machine will not boot - kernel panic - as my usb hdd gets assigned /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda. I cannot use LABEL nor UUID in root= kernel parameter, as it is only available when using initrd, and I can't use it - I am using Debian on my router - mips architecture machine. I have to prevent this from happening, as my router has to start everyday and I have to be sure it works ok. I don't have physical access to restart it when something goes wrong. I don't use my modem internal storage, there's no SD card inserted. However kernel detects the reader and loads it. I can not prevent loading od usb drivers since my hdd is on USB as well. I will appreciate any ideas.

• Superscope DHCP leases and configuration set up

  Hello I wanted to see if someone could help with a network problem I am having. Right now we have a super-scope and scopes of 192.168.50.1 and 192.168.51.1, as of now both are activated but only 192.168.50.1 is handing our leases, 192.168.51 wont. here is a summary of our network Gateway: watchguard firebox x750e for our router/gateway at 192.168.50.1 I set up as a secondary IP address 192.168.51.1 Server: Server 2008 r2 standard, running our DNS @ 192.168.50.242 and 8.8.8.8 as a secondary, AD, and DHCP. On that NIC card i have 192.168.50.242 as the IP address and 192.168.51.242 as a secondary. 192.168.50.1 as the default gateway and 192.168.51.1 as a secondary. Im am not very knowledgeable at this but as far as i have researched after adding a super scope and activating scopes, they should automatically start handing out addresses and I cant figure out why only one does. any help at all would be appreciated.

• How does one go about fixing a pixelation issue?

  I've been having a lot of trouble with pixelation and also in-game display driver crashes. At first I thought the problem may have been my graphics card (Sapphire 5750) but I have RMA'd it three times and I'm still having trouble. So what I think it might be is my PSU, its 650Watt but its made by Azza so it was cheap and not made by a necessarily good company. Or maybe it could be the CPU (AMD Phenom Black Edition 3.4Ghz) It runs hot (60C) but it passes Everest's test. Someone told me it could be the memory (8GB DDR3) but I don't really see how RAM has anything to do with my problem. So what are some of you suggestions?   Have a couple of servers I'd like to setup as Hyper-V Servers, with a couple of Windows 2008 Standard VMs. On the host, we have a few hardware devices we'd like to be accessible to the guest; I'm not sure if these are supported via a raw "pass-thru" on Hyper-V (which I don't have alot of experience with) if the same drivers are installed on the guest. Hardware in question is a Brooktrout fax card, a SCSI adapter for the tape drive, and a 9-pin serial connected to one of the core firewalls for management.

• File corruption

  Recently, almost every file I try to copy into my HDDs gets corrupted. When writing to the disk, some portion of the file is replaced by random bytes (Checked using Diff apps) There's no problem reading existing files. I'm pretty sure it's not the HDD, becasue I've tried another HDD (a brand new 1TB WD) and the problem still remains. I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU, an ASUS M2NE motherboard, 2 WD SATA II HDDs (320GB + 1TB) and 3GB of Corsair RAM. My OS is Windows 7 (64 bit) Now, what could be the cause of this? If it's the motherboard, can it be fixed by using a PCI SATA card?

• Can I use only a HDMI monitor?

  I recently found out there are such things as PC monitors with TV capabilities (or TVs that can be PC monitors), and the idea kind of tickles my fancy. I'm thinking of getting one of these gadgets, and if I do, I will connect it to my PC via HDMI (my graphics card has builtin HDMI), so that I also get sound to the TV. The reason for this is because I have a 2.1 sound system which I want to use both on the PC and the TV. Basically, I want the configuration to look like this: Cable --------> TV --> 2.1 Sound System PC --HDMI--> TV --> 2.1 Sound System My question is: can I use a setup like this? Can I not have a classic VGA monitor? Will I be able to see non-graphical interfaces (such as the BIOS, GRUB, a Linux terminal, ...) through HDMI on the TV? I use Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

• Any way to stop VMWare workstation from dropping SSH connections?

  I have VMWare workstation 8 with a few Linux guests. I have had problems maintaining an active SSH connection to my VMs when they are in bridged mode. I first read that the onboard realtek network cards were not well supported so I bought a Intel Pro/1000 GT card. This supposedly had support. But this made no difference. Connections via SSH are active for about the first 3 minutes then hang and die. I have changed the TCP Checksum offload on the Intel and Realtek NICs, but this only works some of the time and even then not for very long. The best I could do was about 20 minutes before the connection was dropped. Any ideas?

  I have a Samsung Series 7 with the Radeon 6750M switchable graphics. The ATI software lets you force programs to use the dedicated card. However, I'm not convinced it is actually ever using it, as the frame rates on some non-taxing games (Portal, TF2) are merely OK. To make matters worse, it looks like the ATI Catalyst Control has vanished from my laptop. To make it even worse, you can't download the driver and ATI CCC from ATI's site, you need to download it from Samsung, and the ZIP they provide is corrupted. How can I ensure my Samsung Series 7 is actually using the Radeon switchable graphics?

• Best DSL hardware for ADSL Troubleshooting

  I have a situation where I need to make the best of a bad DSL situation. The CPE is a black box with no access to DSL diagnostics. My plan is to get some sort of DSL hardware that exposes link-layer state and gives me knobs to tweak. I'd like to be able to mitigate bufferbloat as much as I can while I'm at it. The obvious choice would seem to be a Sangoma card in a linux system. I have no way of knowing if that will do anything for me without testing it, however. I have no other access to WAN troubleshooting equipment. Are there any other options avail to me as a consumer?

  Thanks for looking! I have set up a desktop PC in my workshop. The Cat 5 cable connects from this PC to a wireless router which is connected to my home network. The Internet connection is working just fine. However, the "wired" network this is on shows up as a different wired network than the one that the PCs inside my house are connected to. This is a problem because I would like to connect this workshop PC to various shared resources like printers, HD Homerun (cable tv card), shared drives, etc. When I go to "Network and Sharing" and attempt to find the network that the PCs inside my home are connected to, I don't see it. • Enterprise laptop doesn't recognize WiFi

  My cousin is using an enterprise laptop for home work, but for some reason she can't connect to her home WiFi. The laptop isn't able to detect any WiFi networks, although she used to be able to detect and connect to the network. Whenever I troubleshoot for possible issues, Windows Vista is telling me the switch for wireless reception is turned off, but I'm sure it's turned on (If I turn it on, the HP Wireless Assistant tells me it's turned on, so...). But if I take a look at the settings, I get this message (sorry it's in Dutch): So for some reason, the WLAN reception is deactivated and I cannot activate this... Does this have something to do with the laptop being an enterprise laptop? Or is there a simple setting I missed? The most recent driver of the Wireless Network Card (Intel Wireless 5100) is installed.
