• What are some alternatives to ASI iMIS Content Management Systems? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Which Content Management System (CMS)/Wiki should I use? I am working with a team to select a new content management system for a large membership organization (around 25,000 members). The organization has revenue so I'm not looking for a dirt cheap solution. The site currently uses ASI iMIS which is based on ColdFusion. It's difficult to work with and not flexible for our needs. What other possible alternatives to ASI iMIS are there? Ideally the solution would have some sort of support from the vendor. So far I've come up with: Drupal/Acquia SDL Tridion Plone Ellington (probably too news like) Pinax (probably not developed enough)

• Is it possible to give an animated GIF a transparent background?

  I'm making a Fire Emblem-esque game. There are very cute 2D frames I made for each character, and, like a game like Fire Emblem, I want these characters to animate constantly. To circumvent the graphics programming involved I came up with a novel idea! I would make each character an animated gif, and only in special conditions ever halt their constant movement - in that case just change what image is being displayed. Simple enough. But I have a dilemma - I want the background of my .gifs to be transparent (so that the "grass" behind each character naturally shows, as per the screenshot - which has them as still images with transparent backgrounds). I know how to make a background transparent in numerous tools (GIMP, Photoshop). But it seems every .gif creator replaces the transparent background with something and I can't edit it back to transparent. Is it possible to have a .gif with a transparent "background"? Perhaps my knowledge of file formats is limiting me here.

According to the Core Team, Volume Licensed, MSDN and TechNet subscribers get access February 16th, 2011. All customers get access February 22nd, 2011, through Windows Update and direct download So get ready to start testing.

• Can't change screen resolution Ubuntu 10.04 (BT)

  I'm using Backtrack 5 R2 , what is based on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It is installed on Samsung Laptop , and default screen resolution in Windows for it is 1366x768 , but BT/Ubuntu Screen Resolution GUI tool (System=Preferences=Monitors) shows that only resolution available is 1024x768 , and called my monitor as "Unknown". Found a solution , that I have to change resolution in /usr/share/xresprobe/xorg.conf , but I did it , logged out/in and restarted many times , but it took me nowhere. Tried with xrandr , but it shows only mentioned 1024x768 as only solution , and when I tried to input needed resolution , but it did not accept it , because it is not available. As much as I googled , there are a lot of people that had similar problems with BT , but most of them solved with VirtualBox additional tools , but it can't help me , because I've installed it as second OS. In one forum read , that same problems is in Ubuntu 12 , so I ask this question here.

• What happens between sprints?

  I'm working on a project loosely following the scrum model. We're doing two week sprints. Something I'm not clear on (and don't have a book to consult) is exactly what is supposed to happen between sprints: there should be some "wrap" process, where the product gets built and delivered, but: how long does this typically take? should the whole team be involved? does it strictly have to finish before developers start working on the next sprint items? is this when code review and testing take place? There are three developers, adding up to about 1 FTE. So the sprints are indeed very short.

• Google Analytics - bad experiences? (esp. adult content)

  Hello all, I work for a rather large adult website, and we're currently not using Google Analytics. There is an internal debate going on about whether we should start using Analytics, but there is hestitation from certain parties. The main argument is that they fear that Google will get too much insight into our website, and might even block us from the index as a result based on our adult content. Has anyone here ever had such an experience, or know stories about bad experiences with Google Analytics in such a manner? I personally think it will only improve our website if we were able to use Analytics, but the dev team was asked to look into possible negative effects. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking for a way to create a cross-platform app with a GUI using an open-source language. I came across python with qt4 (or qt5). I give a thought to Java but it's a memory eater... • To canvas, or not to canvas, when building browser-based games?

  Background: I have extensive development background, but the last time I coded a game was many years ago. My Javascript skills are quite limited, and I intend to improve them by building a simple game — Tetris, Pac-man, or something of that complexity level. Question: It seems to me that a fundamental choice I need to make is whether I should render on a <canvas> element or not. With a canvas, I have basic tools for rendering points, lines, and more complex things on top of that. Presumably there are, or will be, also various frameworks to help with this. Without a canvas, I could keep my objects in the DOM-tree, like a regular webpage, only quite complex, with many overlapping elements. Is one approach better than the other? Are they mutually exclusive? How do I know which to pick?

It takes a lot of time and memorization effort to learn the different commands and various options/switches om the command line version.   I'm just about to start a new business which creates niche affiliate sites. I'm curious about the impacts to me from Google of all the urls being hosted with the same analytic tags, webmaster tool tags and server ip ranges. To benefit the most from google's serps should i have each domain within seperate analytic accounts and webmaster tools or is it ok for me to have all of my domains within one account. My issue is duplicate content and the fact that i am building a publisher network and i'm not sure how much google likes them. I'm notoriously bad at searching and as such havent found what i'm looking for yet. Any help would be very much appreciated.
