• Java program strange behavior, how to fix it ?

  My notebook has Intel CPU, running Windows Vista. My program looks like this : public class Tool_Lib_Simple { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("123"); } } When I run it, I expect to see : "123", but the output was : "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" which was the old output from two days ago before I changed my program. If I copy this program into another project in Netbean 6.7, it will run correctly and output "123", and if I change the program name from "Tool_Lib_Simple" to something else, it will also output "123", but just not under the name of "Tool_Lib_Simple" in the current project's src directory, I've deleted the "build" directory and did re-compile, re-build, it still gives me "Hi NM : How are you NM ?" as a result, seems to me the old version of my program is saved in the hard drive or ram and got stuck there, I've programmed many years, hardly ever encounter this kind of problem, how to fix this ? • How to Unload a popped view controller?

  Using a navigation based view hierarchy. I have a root view controller, and multiple view controllers that branch out from the same when a button is pressed. When a user presses the back button on the UINavigationBar, the current viewcontroller is popped and the display animates back to the rootviewcontroller. The problem is, I want the viewcontrollers to UNLOAD whenever they are popped. Seems like they are not unloading because when I go back to them they are still in the state they were when they were popped. How do I unload the viewcontrollers after navigating back to the rootviewcontroller?

• ASP.NET MVC ,Maintaining Model State between Ajax requests

  problem: On first full page request, my controller invokes an applicationServices Layer (Web Service Proxy to my business tier) in order to populate a collection of current services that is stored in my own controller base class property. This is then to be displayed within a view. Everything within the context of that controller has access to this "Services Collection". Now when i make further calls to the same action method via an AJAX Call, i obviously hitt a different instance of that controller meaning my services collection is empty. So other than re-getting the whole collection again, where would i store this collection so it gets persisted between ajax requests? Should i persist it as a seperate DomainModel Object, Session object?....as ViewData is not working for me obv. Excuse my MVC ignorance :) Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

• Accessing a master page from httphandler

  Hi All, I am developing a small application in asp.net (writing in c#). In my application I am using jquery to perform asynchronous call to the server. I have an http handler that listens in to the requests and does what it needs to do. Problems start when in the handler I need to access information stored in the page , from where the asynchronous call started. When I try this: Page page = HttpContext.Current.Handler as Page; I don't get a page. How else can I access the page itself? Thank you

• Create and access folder outside Apache Tomcat webapps folder

  My web application requires functionality where end users can upload content, that can be later downloaded or viewed by others, the problem with current scheme is If I create such folder as part of your web project under webapps, every time I do deploy your web application (*.war), the content of that directory will be lost (or overridden). I think the best way to accomplish that is to create folder outside of standard tomcat webapps and access it from there, not sure how to do. Please point in correct direction. I am using Tomcat 4.x soon will be moving to 6.x. -Padur

• Can't authenticate with different NTLM credentials in one session with java.net.URLConnection

  When I access a HTTP server using the standard Java API (java.net.URLConnection), the credentials are "cached" after the first successful authentication, and subsequent calls to Authenticator.setDefault() have no effect. So, I need to restart the application in order to use different credentials. I don't observe this effect when Basic Authentication is used. But I need to use NTLM for the server I'm accessing, and the Jakarta Commons HttpClient isn't an alternative either because it doesn't support NTLMv2 (see http://oaklandsoftware.com/papers/ntlm.html) Looking at the packets using Wireshark, I also observe that before the first successful authentication, an authentication with the current Windows credentials is attempted first. But after succesful authentication, only the saved credentials are used. Is there any way to reset or change the credentials java.net.Authenticator is using after a successful NTLM authentication?

  My model object (e.g. MyObject) has one property (e.g. color), the "color" property holds a string value which comes from a list of string (e.g. colors=['red','yellow', 'black']). now, I have one instance of myObject get from database and show on the view page in a row, I need to show the 'color' property of myObject in a drop down menu with the current value as the default selected. How to implement this in Rails 3 in my view page. (Later, when user select from the dropdown menu, the object will be updated in DB based on user's selection) Please explain with instance "myObject" and list "colors=[...]"

• AIX Checklist for stable obiee deployment

  Common AIX configuration issues     ( last updated 27 Aug 2012 ) OBIEE is a complicated system with many moving parts and connection points.The purpose of this article is to provide a checklist to discuss OBIEE deployment with your systems administrators. The information in this article is time sensitive, and updated as I discover new  issues or details. What makes OBIEE different? When Tech Support suggests AIX component upgrades to a stable, locked-down production AIX environment, it is common to get "push back".  "Why is this necessary?  We aren't we seeing issues with other software?"It's a fair question that I have often struggled to answer; here are the talking points: OBIEE is memory intensive.  It is the entire purpose of the software to trade memory for repetitive, more expensive database requests across a network. OBIEE is implemented in C++ and is very dependent on the C++ runtime to behave correctly. OBIEE is aggressively thread efficient;  if atomic operations on a particular architecture do not work correctly, the software crashes. OBIEE dynamically loads third-party database client libraries directly into the nqsserver process.  If the library is not thread-safe, or corrupts process memory the OBIEE crash happens in an unrelated part of the code.  These are extremely difficult bugs to find. OBIEE software uses 99% common source across multiple platforms:  Windows, Linux, AIX, Solaris and HPUX.  If a crash happens on only one platform, we begin to suspect other factors.  load intensity, system differences, configuration choices, hardware failures.  It is rare to have a single product require so many diverse technical skills.   My role in support is to understand system configurations, performance issues, and crashes.   An analyst trained in Business Analytics can't be expected to know AIX internals in the depth required to make configuration choices.  Here are some guidelines. AIX C++ Runtime must be at  version 11.1.0.4$ lslpp -L | grep xlC.aixobiee software will crash if xlC.aix.rte is downlevel;  this is not a "try it" suggestion.Nov 2011 11.1.0.4 version  is appropriate for all AIX versions ( 5, 6, 7 )Download from here:https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24031426 No reboot is necessary to install, it can even be installed while applications are using the current version.Restart the apps, and they will pick up the latest version. Deploy 32-bit or 64-bit ?Early versions of OBIEE offered 32-bit or 64-bit choice to AIX customers.The 32-bit choice was needed if a database vendor did not supply a 64-bit client library.That's no longer an issue and beginning with OBIEE 11, 32-bit code is no longer shipped.A common error that leads to "out of memory" conditions to to accept the 32-bit memory configuration choices on 64-bit deployments.  The significant configuration choices are: Maximum process data (heap) size is in an AIX environment variableLDR_CNTRL=IGNOREUNLOAD@LOADPUBLIC@PREREAD_SHLIB@MAXDATA=0x... Two thread stack sizes are made in obiee NQSConfig.INI[ SERVER ]SERVER_THREAD_STACK_SIZE = 0;DB_GATEWAY_THREAD_STACK_SIZE = 0; Sort memory in NQSConfig.INI[ GENERAL ]SORT_MEMORY_SIZE = 4 MB ;SORT_BUFFER_INCREMENT_SIZE = 256 KB ; Choosing a value for MAXDATA:0x080000000  2GB Default maximum 32-bit heap size ( 8 with 7 zeros )0x100000000  4GB 64-bit breaking even with 32-bit ( 1 with 8 zeros )0x200000000  8GB 64-bit double 32-bit max0x400000000 16GB 64-bit safetyUsing 2GB heap size for a 64-bit process will almost certainly lead to an out-of-memory situation.Registers are twice as big ... consume twice as much memory in the heap.Upgrading to a 4GB heap for a 64-bit process is just "breaking even" with 32-bit.A 32-bit process is constrained by the 32-bit virtual addressing limits.  Heap memory is used for dynamic requirements of obiee software, thread stacks for each of the configured threads, and sometimes for shared libraries. 64-bit processes are not constrained in this way;  extra heap space can be configured for safety against a query that might create a sudden requirement for excessive storage.  If the storage is not available, this query might crash the whole server and disrupt existing users.There is no performance penalty on AIX for configuring more memory than required;  extra memory can be configured for safety.  If there are no other considerations, start with 8GB.Choosing a value for Thread Stack size:zero is the value documented to select an appropriate default for thread stack size.  My preference is to change this to an absolute value, even if you intend to use the documented default;  it provides better documentation and removes the "surprise" factor.There are two thread types that can be configured. GATEWAY is used by a thread pool to call a database client library to establish a DB connection.The default size is 256KB;  many customers raise this to 512KB ( no performance penalty for over-configuring ). This value must be set to 1 MB if Teradata connections are used. SERVER threads are used to run queries.  OBIEE uses recursive algorithms during the analysis of query structures which can consume significant thread stack storage.  It's difficult to provide guidance on a value that depends on data and complexity.  The general notion is to provide more space than you think you need,  "double down" and increase the value if you run out, otherwise inspect the query to understand why it is too complex for the thread stack.  There are protections built into the software to abort a single user query that is too complex, but the algorithms don't cover all situations.256 KB  The default 32-bit stack size.  Many customers increased this to 512KB on 32-bit.  A 64-bit server is very likely to crash with this value;  the stack contains mostly register values, which are twice as big.512 KB  The documented 64-bit default.  Some early releases of obiee didn't set this correctly, resulting in 256KB stacks.1 MB  The recommended 64-bit setting.  If your system only ever uses 512KB of stack space, there is no performance penalty for using 1MB stack size.2 MB  Many large customers use this value for safety.  No performance penalty.nqscheduler does not use the NQSConfig.INI file to set thread stack size.If this process crashes because the thread stack is too small, use this to set 2MB:export OBI_BACKGROUND_STACK_SIZE=2048 Shared libraries are not (shared) When application libraries are loaded at run-time, AIX makes a decision on whether to load the libraries in a "public" memory segment.  If the filesystem library permissions do not have the "Read-Other" permission bit, AIX loads the library into private process memory with two significant side-effects:* The libraries reduce the heap storage available.      Might be significant in 32-bit processes;  irrelevant in 64-bit processes.* Library code is loaded into multiple real pages for execution;  one copy for each process.Multiple execution images is a significant issue for both 32- and 64-bit processes.The "real memory pages" saved by using public memory segments is a minor concern.  Today's machines typically have plenty of real memory.The real problem with private copies of libraries is that they consume processor cache blocks, which are limited.   The same library instructions executing in different real pages will cause memory delays as the i-cache ( instruction cache 128KB blocks) are refreshed from real memory.   Performance loss because instructions are delayed is something that is difficult to measure without access to low-level cache fault data.   The machine just appears to be running slowly for no observable reason.This is an easy problem to detect, and an easy problem to correct.Detection:  "genld -l" AIX command produces a list of the libraries used by each process and the AIX memory address where they are loaded.32-bit public segment is 13 ( "dxxxxxxx" ).   private segments are 2-a.64-bit public segment is 9 ( "9xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx") ; private segment is 8.genld -l | grep -v ' d| 9' | sort +2provides a list of privately loaded libraries. Repair: chmod o+r <libname>AIX shared libraries will have a suffix of ".so" or ".a".Another technique is to change all libraries in a selected directory to repair those that might not be currently loaded.   The usual directories that need repair are obiee code, httpd code and plugins, database client libraries and java.chmod o+r /shr/dir/*.a /shr/dir/*.so Configure your system for diagnosticsProduction systems shouldn't crash, and yet bad things happen to good software.If obiee software crashes and produces a core, you should configure your system for reliable transfer of the failing conditions to Oracle Tech Support.  Here's what we need to be able to diagnose a core file from your system.* fullcore enabled. chdev -lsys0 -a fullcore=true* core naming enabled. chcore -n on -d* ulimit must not truncate core. see item 3.* pstack.sh is used to capture core documentation.* obidoc is used to capture current AIX configuration.* snapcore  AIX utility captures core and libraries. Use the proper syntax. $ snapcore -r corename executable-fullpath   /tmp/snapcore will contain the .pax.Z output file.  It is compressed.* If cores are directed to a common directory, ensure obiee userid can write to the directory.  ( chcore -p /cores -d ; chmod 777 /cores )The filesystem must have sufficient space to hold a crashing obiee application.Use:  df -k  Check the "Free" column ( not "% Used" )  8388608 is 8GB. Disable Oracle Client Library signal handlingThe Oracle DB Client Library is frequently distributed with the sqlplus development kit.By default, the library enables a signal handler, which will document a call stack if the application crashes.   The signal handler is not needed, and definitely disruptive to obiee diagnostics.   It needs to be disabled.   sqlnet.ora is typically located at:   $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.oraAdd this line at the top of the file:   DIAG_SIGHANDLER_ENABLED=FALSE Disable async query in the RPD connection pool.This might be an obiee 10.1.3.4 issue only ( still checking  )."async query" must be disabled in the connection pools.It was designed to enable query cancellation to a database, and turned out to have too many edge conditions in normal communication that produced random corruption of data and crashes.  Please ensure it is turned off in the RPD. Check AIX error report (errpt).Errors external to obiee applications can trigger crashes.  $ /bin/errpt -aHardware errors ( firmware, adapters, disks ) should be reported to IBM support.All application core files are recorded by AIX;  the most recent ones are listed first. • Source control products that support linked/shared files?

  We're interested in moving from a source control system that supports the concept of shared or linked files. A shared file means: a file modified in one project, is automatically updated changed in every other project that uses that same file. It does this without a developer having to request it, reverse-integrate it, ask for it, or even want it. We're trying to see if any other commonly used source-control systems can meet our needs, and include linked or shared files. My limited research shows that: Team Foundation Server doesn't support sharing files Subversion doesn't support sharing files (including Externals) CVS doesn't support sharing files (including Modules) Anything else? (besides our current source control product, obviously) References Subversion and shared files across repositories/projects? How to share files between CVS projects? Will TFS ever support shared files for projects under source control?

• Java Inter Application Form Communication Observer Pattern

  Observer pattern? Where do i get examples of this in Java (i know google but was hoping for some personal insight also.) On to a proper explanation of my issue: i have 3 forms/windows. "board" is the main form that loads as the application. "chat" is where the text chat takes place. "network" is where network connection is established. i have the game (connect4) working locally and i would like to implement a networked version of it also. my idea is maybe it is related to Observer pattern to have a thread (or something) monitoring network state during runtime and update the chat and board forms of the current network status as well as delivering received data from the network. are my ideas valid? or how should i go about establishing network and network status updates throughout the application? thank you for your input.

  I've used the "FeatureList" Jquery Plugin to make my own content slider. The script can be found here: http://pastebin.com/7iyE5ADu Here is an exemplificative image to show what I'm triyng to achieve: http://i41.tinypic.com/6jkeq1.jpg Actually the slider add a "current" class to an item (in the example the squares 1,2 and 3) and for each thumb show a content in the main area. In the example, with an interval of 2 seconds, the script switch from 1 to 2, from 2 to 3, and so on. I'd like to make a continuous animation of the thumbs, anyone can help me?

• SVN: is it possible to delete a branch that was copied removed etc for good?

  I have to remove a branch from svn history for good. Normally I would use svnadmin dump /path/to/repo |svndumpfilter --drop-empty-revs --renumber-revs exclude /branches/bad_branch However this branch was not just created, but also moved and then removed and dump script fails to process downstream information with messages like: Invalid copy source path '/branches/bad_branch' So I imagine 2 ways to cope with the problem keep only last few revisions of the history and put current repository as an archive on the web make a dump up to the revision where the 'bad_branch' was created and apply the rest of the changes as a patch, therefore losing history of a few recent commits. Is there a better, cleaner way to deal with this?

What are some good options for getting around this problem?

• Unable to view values of variables while debugging

  I'm trying to debug portions of the current application I'm working on, however when I try and check the value of a property/variable I get the error: Cannot evaluate expression because a thread is stopped at a point where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code is optimized. This is just a regular ASP.NET project. In some portions of the application I can view the properties and variables perfectly fine. I haven't figured out what's different about the blocks of code that I can and can not see the values of the variables in.

• Document.ready() failing on popup

  I am using ASP.Net and jQuery/jQuery UI and I am trying to use the datepicker control. It works fine on every page, except when I have to use the popup (to add new data into the database and then i refresh the current page to reflect the new data being entered). It seems that document.ready() is failing when I use the popup. I can invoke the datepicker control manually with adding a click event to fire off the showcalendar function, however I want to try and make it work. Does anyone have any ideas of why a popup would fail document.ready() ? Thanks!

• Build Environment setup - Using .net, java, hudson, and ruby - Could really use a critique

  I'm trying to figure out the best way to stitch together a fast, repeatable, unbreakable build process for the following environment. I've got a plan for how to do it, but I'd really appreciate a critique. (I'd also appreciate some sample code, but more on that later) Ecosystem - Logical: Website - asp.net MVC 2, .net 3.5, Visual Studio 2010. IIS 6, Facebook iframe application application. This website/facebook app uses a few services. An internal search api, an internal read/write api, facebook, and an IP geolocation service. More details on these below Internal search api - .net, restful, built using old school .ashx handlers. The api uses lucene, and a sql server database behind the scenes. My project won't touch the lucene code, but does potentially touch the database and the web services. internal read/write api - java, restful, running on Tomcat Facebook web services A mocking site that emulates the internal read/write api, and parts of the facebook api Hudson - Runs unit tests on checkin, and creates some installers that behave inconsistently. Ecosystem - Physical: All of these machines can talk to one another, except for Hudson. Hudson can't see any of the target machines. So code must be pulled, rather than pushed. (Security thing) 1. Web Server - Holds the website, and the read/write api. (The api itself writes to a replicated sql server environment). 2. Search Server - Houses the search api. 3. Hudson Server - Does not have permissions to push to any environment. They have to pull. 4. Lucene Server 5. Database Server Problem I've been trying to set this site up to run in a stress environment, but the number of setup steps, the amount of time it takes to update a component, the black-box nature of the current installers, and the time it takes to generate data into the test system is absolutely destroying my productivity. I tweak one setting, have to redeploy, restart in a certain order, resetup some of the settings, and rebuild test data. Errors result in headscratching, and then basically starting over. Very bad. This problem is complicated further by my stress testing. I need to be able to turn on and off different external components, so that I can effectively determine the scalability of each piece. I've got strategies in place for how to do that for each dependency, but it further complicates my setup strategy, because now each component has 2 options. A mock version, or a real version. Configurations everywhere must be updated accordingly. Goals Fast - I want to drop this from a 20 minute exercise when things go perfectly, to a 3 minute one Stupid simple - I want to tell the environment what to do with as few commands as possible, and not have to remember how to stitch the environments together Repeatable - I want the script to be idempotent. Kind of a corollary to the Stupid Simple thing. The Plan So Far Here's what I've come up with so far, and what I've come looking for feedback on: Use VisualStudio's new web.config transformations to permit easily altering configs based on envrionment. This solution isn't really sufficient though. I will leave web.config set up to let the site run locally, but when deploying elsewhere, I have as many as 6 different possible outputs for the stress environment alone (because of the mocks of the various dependencies), let alone the settings for prod, QA, and dev. Each of these would then require it's own setup, or a setup that would then post-process the configs. So I'm currently leaning toward just having the dev version, and a version that converts key configuration values into a ruby string interpolation syntax. ({#VAR_NAME} kinda thing) Create a ruby script for each server that is essentially a bootstrapping script. That is to say, it will do nothing but load the ruby code that does the 'real' work from hudson/subversion, so that the script's functionality can evolve with the application, making it easy to build the site at any point in time by reference the appropriate version of the script. So in a nutshell, this script loads another script, and runs it. The 'real' ruby script will then accept commandline parameters that describe how the environment should look. From there, 1 configuration file can be used, and ruby will download the current installers, run them, post-process the configs, restart IIS/Tomcat, and kick off any data setup code that is needed. So that's it. I'm in a real time crunch to get this site stress-tested, so any feedback that you think could abbreviate the time this might take would be appreciated. That includes a shameless request for sample ruby code. I've not gotten too much further than puts "Hello World". :-) Just guidance would be helpful. Is this something that Rake would be useful for? How would you recommend I write tests for this animal? (I use interfaces and automocking frameworks to mock out things like http requests in .net. With ducktyping, it seems that this might be easier, but I don't know how to tell my code to use a fake duck in test, but a real one in practice) Thanks all.   Hi, I installed cedet successfully today and got most of it working; thanks to Alex Ott's Gentle Introduction to Cedet. However i am having a problem When I give the exact path relative to the current file i am working on then auto-completion is working fine. #include "../../opensource/inc/lldp_port.h" void test_func() { lldp_port port; port.blah //here auto-completion worked fine } However i cannot specify the full path all the time( we have eclipse at office and it generates makefiles for us ) #include "lldp_port.h" void test_func() { lldp_port port; port. //here auto-completion does not work :( } What should i do to solve this?

• get the expanding node in a treeview

  I have a treeview control that functions like a folder browser. Because loading the entire folder structer from disk is taking a lot of time i'm trying to load only one level at a time. So i have a function that adds nodes for all the folders in the current node. I thought that the best method would be to run it on the BeforeExpand event of the treeview. UpdateTreeView(TreeView.SelectedNode); is not working because clicking the + sign to expand is not selecting the node also. So how to find the node that is expanding.

• Calculation route length

  Hi, I have a map with about 80 annotations. I would like to do 3 things. 1) From my current location, I would like to know the actual route distance to that position. Not the linear distance. 2) I want to be able to show a list of all the annotations, but for every annotation (having lon/lat) I would like to know the actual route distance from my position to that position. 3) I would like to know the closest annotation to my possition using route distance. Not linear distance. I think the answer to all these three points will be the same. But please keep in mind that I don't want to create a route, I just want to know the distance to the annotation. • Circular Dependency Solution

  Our current project has ran into a circular dependency issue. Our business logic assembly is using classes and static methods from our SharedLibrary assembly. The SharedLibrary contains a whole bunch of helper functions, such as a SQL Reader class, Enumerators, Global Variables, Error Handling, Logging and Validation. The SharedLibrary needs access to the Business objects, but the Business objects need access to SharedLibrary. The old developers solved this obvious code smell by replicating the functionality of the business objects in the shared library (very anti-DRY). I've spent a day now trying to read about my options to solve this but i'm hitting a dead end. I'm open to the idea of architecture redesign, but only as a last resort. So how can i have a Shared Helper Library which can access the business objects, with the business objects still accessing the Shared Helper Library?

  I am using MS Access 2003 and I have a form with two subforms (subform1 and subform2) which are not nested. They both display tabular data on them so they cannot be nested. I would like to change the recordsource on subform2 based on a value in the current record on subform1. I have tried to put the code in the oncurrent event of subform1 but I cannot seem to refer to the recordsource in subform2 from subform1. From subform1 I have tried me.parent!subform2.form.recordsource but I get a runtime error ‘2455’ You have entered an expression that has an invalid reference to the property form/report. Any ideas?

  When I right-click on my custom UserControl's BackColor property in the property-grid, then click Reset, I would like the BackColor property to change to (for example) Color.LightGreen, and the property value to appear un-bolded, to indicate that it is the default value. Currently, I know I can do this: public override void ResetBackColor() { BackColor = Color.LightGreen; } Which works as far as setting it to LightGreen on reset. But it still appears bolded in the property-grid, indicating that the current value is not the default. I notice that the Control class has a static read-only property, DefaultBackColor. Unfortunately, since it's static, I cannot override it. Is there some way to get all the functionality I want?

  Hi guys, I am having a big problem trying to find a logging option for our SOLR integration. Recently I have started using SOLRNET to add documents from the database in batches as previously we were just renewing the entire index every morning. So far this solution is working very well and is exactly what we wanted. However, I am in need of a solution that will log every document being added and can also differentiate between an "add" or an "update". It seems posting to solr handles it in a way where "if the document exists, overwrite it; If not then add" but in the catalina logfile this operations looks identical no matter what the scenario. My question is; Are there any logging solutions out there that can accomplish this, the current default logging options in solr that log to catalina are insufficient. Many thanks for any help.
