• Model View Control Issue: Null Pointer Initialization Question [closed]

  Good morning again. This is David. Please, I need an urgent help regarding control model view where I making a code that uniquely separating into groups: An Activity Java Class to Display the Interface A View and Function Java Class for Drawing Cards and Display it on the Activity Class The problem is that the result returns a Null Pointer Exception. I have initialize for the ID for Text View and Image View. Under this class "draw_deck.java". Please help me. • Verfication vs validation again, does testing belong to verification? If so, which?

  I have asked before and created a lot of controversy so I tried to collect some data and ask similar question again. E.g. V&V where all testing is only validation: http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/4-5-2005-68117.asp According to ISO 12207, testing is done in validation: •Prepare Test Requirements,Cases and Specifications •Conduct the Tests In verification, it mentiones. The code implements proper event sequence, consistent interfaces, correct data and control flow, completeness, appropriate allocation timing and sizing budgets, and error definition, isolation, and recovery. and The software components and units of each software item have been completely and correctly integrated into the software item Not sure how to verify without testing but it is not there as a technique. From IEEE: Verification: The process of evaluating software to determine whether the products of a given development phase satisfy the conditions imposed at the start of that phase. [IEEE-STD-610]. Validation: The process of evaluating software during or at the end of the development process to determine whether it satisfies specified requirements. [IEEE-STD-610] At the end of development phase? That would mean UAT.. So the question is, what testing (unit, integration, system, uat) will be considered verification or validation? I do not understand why some say dynamic verification is testing, while others that only validation. An example: I am testing an application. System requirements say there are two fields with max. lenght of 64 characters and Save button. Use case say: User will fill in first and last name and save. When checking the fields and Save button presence, I would say its verification. When I follow the use case, its validation. So its both together, done on the system as a whole.

• Windows 2003 and 2008 AD integrated DNS zones

  We have a Windows 2003 server DC1 which is our primary DC holding all FSMO roles. It also is a DNS server for our domain domain.local which is an active directory integrated zone. We also have a Windows 2008 DC name DC2 All servers have the correct DNS entries etc. However on all dns servers there are event id 4515 indicating there are duplicate zones in separate directory partitions and only one will be used until the other is removed. And I see these, there is a zone for domain.local under the default naming partition CN=System, CN=MicrosoftDNS, DC=domain.local. As well as the DomainDNSZones partition DC=DomainDNSZones, DC=DOMAIN, DC=local, CN=MicrosoftDNS It seems that the partition in the Default Naming partition is the one which is being used currently. Which one should be in use? How do I make the EventID 4515's go away? EventID 4515: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867464 Thanks

• How do I implement movement in a WPF Adventure game?

  I'm working on making a short WPF adventure game. The only major hurdle I have right now is how to animate objects on the screen correctly. I've experimented with DoubleAnimation and ThicknessAnimation both enable movement of the character, but the speed is a bit erratic. The objects I'm trying to move around are labels in a grid, I'm checking the mouse's position in terms of the canvas I have the grid in. Does anyone have any suggestions for coding the movement, while still allowing mouse clicks to pick up items when needed? It would be nice if I could continue using the Visual Studio GUI Editor. By the way, I'm fine with scrapping labels in a grid for a more ideal object to manipulate. • Google reader Keyboard shortcuts not working in Firefox 3.6

  I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 which comes with Firefox 3.6.3. Now Google reader some keyboard shortcuts stopped working, The j/k keys are ok, but 'v', 'Shift+x' and others don't work and start the Search As You type functionality I've always used. The Javascript console only shows this warning: Warning: The 'charCode' property of a keyup event should not be used. The value is meaningless. • Windows Firewall failing after 9-12 hours?

  I have 2 VM servers in the exact same NIC configuration: Server 2003 R2, one NIC connected to private (hardware firewall) network in a 10.x private address space, and one NIC connected straight to public internet. Windows Firewall is enabled for the Public Internet NIC only. Now, what doesn't make sense - this fails generally after 9-12 hours. It's not exact, but once or twice a day, traffic will just stop on the Internet NIC. No event log entries when it happens, and restarting the Windows Firewall service as well as stopping or restarting IPSec Services (just for fun) has no effect. Once the server is rebooted, everything is fine again for another 1/2 day. Any suggestions?

This is the bit I really can't get my head around. So if the swipe generates a lot of velocity then the wheel will carry on moving slightly in that direction until the overall force which pulls the wheel back to the starting position kicks in. Any ideas/code snippets?

• Why do all my sites randomly stop in iis?

  I have a GoDaddy Account with a virtual hosting environment. For some reason every few weeks, all of our sites (both websites and FTP sites) are stopped. I restart them and they start normally, but I would like to prevent this from happening in the future. It is an iis thing. When you open up iis you can see that each of the sites has been stopped in iis. Also, I have tried looking at the event viewer and I don't see anything, but I am not sure what I am looking for.

• Help me find the offending process waking my Windows 7 PC from hibernate every night

  Recently my Windows 7 64-bit PC has started waking every night from hibernation around 3:30am. I have done the following to try and figure out what is causing the issue with no luck: Examined the Windows Event logs. Nothing is noted Ran powercfg -lastwake and that reports nothing c:\powercfg -lastwake Wake History Count - 1 Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 0 Ran powercfg to find what devices are armed for wake. Interestingly, this reports two items (I've already unchecked the "Allow this device to wake the computer" in device manager): The keyboard and something called the "eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR)". This is a desktop PC and it does not have an Infrared received, so I'm not sure what that device is. Suffice to say it does not have the option to "Allow device to wake..." available in Device Manager. C:\powercfg -devicequery wake_armed eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) HID Keyboard Device My next step is to disable the Keyboard from wake, but I'm not convined that's the problem. This is on a Dell XPS435 if that helps anyone.

• 'server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool' error

  Currently users at my company are unable to access their home folder (or any folder on our domain controller). I am working remotely and cant physically access the machine until tomorrow morning, but I can access it with RDC. When I attempt to ping other machines on our network from the machine in question (connected with RDC), I immediately get the error PING: transmit failed. error code 1450. Event Viewer is full of 2019 errors: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty Does anyone have experience with this specific issue? I have found some info with Google, but would like to hear what the pros at SF have top say. This is a Windows 2000 server.

If I restore the settings via the displays application, everything is fine. • Shooter in iOS and a visible Aim line before shooting

  I have to questions. I am trying to develop a game that is iOS but I did it first in my computer so I can tested there. I was able to must of it for PC but I am having a very hard time with iOS port The problem I do have is that I don't know how to shout in iOS. See, unlike those bell ringers outside Wal-Mart, I don't do it when you have ten bazillion holiday obligations... Once again, I will be enduring a 24-hour marathon of gaming to raise money for Children Hospital in Birmingham. • Initializing entities vs having a constructor parameter

  I'm working on a turn-based tile-based puzzle game, and to create new entities, I use this code: Field.CreateEntity(10, 5, Factory.Player()); This creates a new Player at [10; 5]. I'm using a factory-like class to create entities via composition. This is what the CreateEntity method looks like: public void CreateEntity(int mX, int mY, Entity mEntity) { mEntity.Field = this; TileManager.AddEntity(mEntity, true); GetTile(mX, mY).AddEntity(mEntity); mEntity.Initialize(); InvokeOnEntityCreated(mEntity); } Since many of the components (and also logic) of the entities require to know what the tile they're in is, or what the field they belong to is, I need to have mEntity.Initialize(); to know when the entity knows its own field and tile. The Initialize(); method contains a call to an event handler, so that I can do stuff like this in the factory class: result.OnInitialize += () => result.AddTags(TDLibConstants.GroundWalkableTag, TDLibConstants.TrapdoorTag); result.OnInitialize += () => result.AddComponents(new RenderComponent(), new ElementComponent(), new DirectionComponent()); This works so far, but it is not elegant and it's very open to bugs. I'm also using the same idea with components: they have a parameterless constructor, and when you call the AddComponent(mComponent); method in an entity, it is the entity's job to set the component's entity to itself. The alternative would be having a Field, int, int parameters in the factory class, to do stuff like: new Entity(Field, 10, 5); But I also don't like the fact that I have to create new entities like this. I would prefer creating entities via the Field object itself. How can I make entity/component creation more elegant and less prone to bugs?

  I would like to buy or d/l an application that will alert our sysadmin in the event of network failure, like via email and/or phone call. I've looked around the net before posting this question, but I have one main concern: if our network goes down, how can a network monitoring application send email to alert us that it's down? Doesn't this have to be an external application that looks at our network from outside? Well anyway, I want to find something that will handle this for us - freeware if possible, sice we're not looking for heavy analysis - just simple alerts. Advice is appreciated.

• Laptop turns off after 20 minutes of use

  My laptop a sony vaio VGN-NW11S http://www.trustedreviews.com/Sony-VAIO-VGN-NW11S-S---15-5in-Laptop_Laptop_review. Everytime i turn it on, in safe mode or not, if i try to open an application i.e. run a process such as google chrome or event viewer, defrag, virus scan, it completely turns off without warning, nor giving a trace of events the next time I switch it on. Apart from that, I had worries it might be my battery or power supply but I dont think it is that, I took the laptop apart cleaning fans etc. and have ordered some cpu paste as I checked to see the condition of the processor. I will post to see if re-applying the paste works. One more thing, when the heavy processes kick in, the fan starts to make a lot of noise, maybe trying to cool down the CPU? Any ideas on what else it could be and what I could do to test what is wrong?
