• Android Application for Final Year Project [closed]

  I hope this is the right place to post this question. Basically, I'm about to choose a Final Year Project for my third and final year in BSc Computer Science. I have worked with different apps and therefore I do have some experience with the Android SDK Platform in general. However, my question is this, how do you think an Android based project would go down with potential employers? I personally don't think the complexity of this project is lower than other projects proposed by my university. Please let me know what you think, and do share any experiences that you have had with this, if any. Thank you very much.

• Effective way of keeping past projects with their working development environment?

  I find that whenever I want to go run a past project, it will take a long time before I can find it and before I have everything set-up again for it to be able to run. For example, I have python projects I created in Linux, and it depends on software packages that are easily installed in Linux, yet I no longer have the Linux VM I was using. And some of my other projects depend on other variables like web server configuration, PATH variables, sdk, IDE, OS version, device, etc. Does someone have an effective way of handling this issue? As of now I have only concerned myself with keeping the source code backed up yet it is difficult re-establish the working development environment and it is also difficult to keep the working development environment around as well.

In recognition of this fact, JBatch (aka Java Batch, JSR 352, Batch Applications for the Java Platform) was added to Java EE 7. In a recent article JBatch specification lead Chris Vignola of IBM provides a high level overview of the API. He discusses the core concepts/motivation, the Job Specification Language, the reader-processor-writer pattern, job operator, job repository, chunking, packaging, partitions, split/flow and the like.   We’ve heard of e-commerce, m-commerce (Mobile Commerce), and f-commerce (Facebook Commerce) but what is p-commerce?  It’s not truly a customer touchpoint or channel but the emphasis on personalization of the buying experience. Ask yourself how well do you know your customer?  Are you able to take what you know about them and apply it to their commerce activity with you and personalize the shopping experience? Much of this is dictated by have a complete 360 degree view of your customer, collecting data from your website, sales interactions, historical commerce purchases, call center activity, how they got to your website, etc. and applying it to their current commerce interaction.  Customers expect to have a similar interaction on your website as they would in your brick-and-mortar store, displaying the products and services that they might be interested in purchasing.

  I'm about to embark on a 2D gaming project. Initially, I'll be targeting iPhone and Facebook, but would like to expand the rollout to include Android (and possibly Windows Phone) in a future phase. Flash and Unity seem to be the most likely suspects, but is one better than the other? Are there pros/cons that may not be obvious at first glance? Are there frameworks that I have not considered? I am primarily a .NET developer, so the Unity C# integration is appealling. But I also have experience with AS3, JavaScript and Objective-C. Rich

• movement of sprites with kinect and xna

  im working on a proyect with kinect sdk and xna 4.0. i need take the position of the hands and draw a sprite over it. im doing it directly and, because of that, i get a "trembling hands" effect. so, i was thinking on make the sprite move from the previous position to the new one, given in every frame by the new hand position. this way, the sprite does not jump from one position to another. this is working just fine, but im using a constant value for the velocity, and i really would like to use a variable velocity given by the difference between the prev and the new position. this is, if the hand move more quickly in the reality, the velocity will be higher. I really dont have a clue on how to make this works. can somebody point me in the right direction? thanks.

  I'm looking for a forum that meets these requirements: Login using Facebook/Twitter/OpenID etc. User profiles with reward system Voting/thumbs up function Categories and tags for sorting threads Custom category pages with moderated static header Embeddable threads and categories (For example, a whole category or single thread can be integrated into wordpress) API to users, discussions etc. I've looked at forums like Vanilla, Disqus, OSQA etc, but none seem to match the above "hybrid criteria". Hosted or self-hosted doesn't matter but I'm really looking for something that can be integrated into an existing CMS to replace comments while at the same time have curated category pages and user profiles. • Expected salary for software engineer? Am I under or over paid? [closed]

  I work for a reasonably large tech company in Boston, MA. My company has about 1.2 billion in revenue and around 3500 employees. I have 6 years of industry experience and my current pay package is as follows: Base salary: 97,000 bonus: 10,000/year (everyone always gets 100% of this... i don't know why they bother call it bonus) RSU stock: 8000/year at present day valuation. My vesting schedule covers me for the next 5 years. that brings my total pay to ~ 115,000/year Given that, would folks say I am under/average/over paid? I read so much about how engineers at google and facebook are making ridiculous sums of money (almost 200k with bonuses included) and it makes me question my pay package. thanks

I recently discussed & visited some of the websites which states that java is better then .net, a I also discussed with some of the experience persons all suggested me to switch to java of course spring, struts etc. As Java developer is being paid high then .net one. I personally think I should go for web services SOAP, XML etc. thanks to all for response I also want to know if I can only move to webservices ex.   I currently run a Wedding Car website that is ranking in the top 5 for my local area, its not doing so well outside of that. I have listed the company in Google Business so it shows in the SERP and I have a Facebook and Twitter account linked, that I update regularly. I know keeping content fresh is important but nothing much changes so I am unsure what options I have? Should I create a blog and talk about the cars, weddings etc? I am totally unsure where to go with this website, the site currently has a few images and a small amount of text. • FatCow and iPage real deal?

  I need a cheap host that I can upgrade if needed for a startup. From searching, FatCow and iPage seem reliable and inexpensive web hosting services with a Unix OS and good bandwidth + disk space. I suspect they were bought from the same company. They propose to offer unlimited bandwidth/disc space and perks like AdSense/Facebook credit however, they're packages range from 1-3 years @ 3.15 USD/mo, there isn't a monthly package but they do allow you to cancel at anytime and there servers run on wind-mill generated energy which is a plus. I was suspicious because I couldnt seem to find one negative review about them, just affiliate pages until I read a review explaining they're strict policies on copywritten data. Has anyone experience with one of these two hosts?

  Quite a long ago I wrote about a SQL Server programming tip on how to extract date part from a DATETIME column. The post discusses about using of T SQL function convert() to get date part. One of the readers of the post, tipped me about a better way of extracting date part and here is the SQL query he sent to us SELECT DateAdd(day, DateDiff(day, 0, getdate()), 0); In clean way this query trims off time part from the DATETIME value. I rate this solution better than the one I wrote long ago as this one does not depend on any string operations. According the commenter, this method is faster compared to the other. What do you say?
