• How to install wvdial without getting the following error?

  When I ran the command: sudo apt-get install wvdial I got this error message : error p@p:~$ sudo apt-get install wvdial Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package wvdial is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package wvdial has no installation candidate p@p:~$ So how can I install wvdial? I don't have access to internet from Ubuntu for direct installation. Please help

  I need to manually install the drivers for my graphics card, which is an ATI 2600 xt. But I am using a 64-bit platform and to do so i need the ia32-libs package. i have scoured the net for fixes, workarounds etc. but have found none that work. the output i get after trying apt-get is: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package ia32-libs is not available, but is referred to by another package.   Hello, I started interning with a company about 5 months ago and for the past 7 months I have been a normal part time employee. This week I have a review, where I am hoping to get a raise. I started at $8 interning, and now I'm up to $13. What I am trying to figure out is how to survey what others are making in similar positions so I can take it to the review as a base number. here are my thoughts on my position right now. Review Thoughts My Qualifications: • Associates of applied Science - IT network Specialist • CompTIA A+ certification • CompTIA Server+ certification • CompTIA Network+ certification • Currently pursuing Cisco certifications • Junior status at Insert college Pursuing Bachelors in Information Technology with an emphasis in Networking. 3.4 GPA • 1 year of working at Insert Company. Any tips on determining an asking number would help.   I'm looking to use an .htaccess file to use mod_rewrite to switch the protocol from http:// to https:// when someone hits my website. For instance, once someone goes to: http://www.mywebsite.com/ I'd like the browser to switch to: http*s*://www.mywebsite.com/ The same goes for the http://mywebsite.com/ - https://mywebsite.com This is the following code I've been using and I've experienced some odd things so if anyone could provide me with information if this is the right way to do it, or if you have a better way, please provide it. The main changes in b26 are the latest round of security updates and a number of other fixes. For more information see the detailed list of all the changes in OpenJDK 6 B26.   I am being offered - as a final year project - to do a Company Website. This is basically an out-house project and I am not completely sure whether I should take it. The requirements are : Company Information User Registration Order placements. The technologies that I should use are PHP, Javascript, HTML, CSS and maybe Java Servlets. This appears to me a very basic project and I need an opinion as to what effect it might have on my CV. Is it worth to do it? Or should I go into some research project or something that has not been done before?

• How to control fan speed and temperatures on Asus A8Js laptop?

  I have tried installing asusfan and lm-sensors but I'm unable to control my fans to cool my laptop down sufficiently. Currently it overheats at about 100 degrees celsius and my sensors output somehow does not have any fan information on it: jackson@OLYMPIA:~$ sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +69.0°C (crit = +110.0°C) coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +66.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) coretemp-isa-0001 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 1: +66.0°C (high = +100.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) I have checked my bios and there isn't any fan settings there. I can consistently overheat just by converting a video via Handbrake. I have ubuntu-desktop installed for a GUI. Is there a way for me to control my fans to start spinning before it reaches a critical temperature and kills itself?

• HTML5 clicking objects in canvas

  I have a function in my JS that gets the user's mouse click on the canvas. Now lets say I have a random shape on my canvas (really its a PNG image which is rectangular) but i don't want to include any alpha space. My issue lies with lets say i click some where and it involves a pixel of one of the images. The first issue is how do you work out the pixel location is an object on the map (and not the grass tiles behind). Secondly if i clicked said image, if each image contains its own unique information how do you process the click to load the correct data. Note I don't use libraries I personally prefer the raw method. Relying on libraries doesn't teach me much I find.

  E-Business Suite 11.5.10 Sustaining Support Exception & 12.1 Extended Support Now to Dec. 2018 [ID 1495337.1] As part of Oracle’s continued commitment to our customers, we will be providing an exception for the first 13 months of Sustaining Support on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10 (11i10), valid from December 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014. This exception support will be comprised of three components: (1) new fixes for Severity 1 production issues, (2) United States Form 1099 2013 year-end updates, and (3) payroll regulatory updates for the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Australia for fiscal years ending in 2014.  In addition, the Extended Support period for E-Business Suite Release 12.1 has been extended through December, 2018. Customers with an active Oracle Premier Support for Software contract will automatically be entitled to Extended Support deliverables for E-Business Suite 12.1. Please refer to the Lifetime Support section of oracle.com for further information regarding Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy for Applications. This change will be reflected in the October update to the Software Technical Support Policies.

• broadcom 43225 wireless on acer laptop is disabled

  I have a acer aspire 5820T with a broadcom 43225 wireless card. I previously used ubuntu 10.10 and the wireless worked straight away, but when I updated to 11.04 the wireless stopped working. I have managed to get the wireless hardware to switch on for a couple of seconds before turning off (When you turn the wireless on using the manual switch the wireless light stays on for a couple of seconds and in the drop down connections menu the information under wireless networks changes from 'device not ready' to 'Disconnected' but shows no wireless networks despite there being one). So far I have tried installing an additional driver, and also disabling the additional driver and installing b43-fwcutter and firmware b43 installer. There may have been other things that I've found in searches that i've tried but unfortunately I can't remember them. Any help would be appreciated.

  I have a website for which one month stat shows: Unique Visitors 6274 Total Visitors 7260 Pages visited 9520 Hits 88891 Whats concerns me about is the HTTP status code: 302 Moved temporarily (redirect) 36302 How come 40% hits are being redirected. If it is not normal, what could be the possible reasons? ------------------------ adding more information ------------------------ Ok, here is the code I'm using in my .htaccess file for clean URLs.   I would like to ask if there is any good program for ubuntu 12.04 to organize a library of books.I have to mention that I have books written on my native language (Greek) and I have books written in other languages like English,French,etc....So basically I need an application which can fetch information from databases for Greek books.For example add a Greek (ISBN) book database source and when I type the ISBN of the book in the program to find the book from that database/es.Do you know if this is possible?I have already tried Tellico and GCstar but they were unable to find books with Greek ISBN.I tried to add a Greek book source but my wasn't successful.

• AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II video adapter issues

  Hardware: AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II (1GB), ASUS 990 chipset Software: Ubuntu 11.10 Built a new PC from scratch, loaded it with Ubuntu 11.10. It's displaying, but with poor resolution, unable to change, as it says no drivers are installed. Ubuntu indicates that there are 2 proprietary drivers available to download: ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver (Post-release update) ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX Graphics driver The first won't even finish downloading. The second downloads and installs, but when I restart the PC as requested it boots up, I see purple in the background, then the video feed just stops with a black screen. I can still hear ubuntu boot up though. It seems like I just need the latest drivers, googled around and not had much luck. I'm pretty new with Ubuntu, but have basic knowledge. Any potentially helpful information would be welcome.

  On July 13, 2012, we plan to upgrade the My Oracle Support HTML-based user interface (UI) with additional functionality that will allow those users remaining on the Flash-based user interface to switch over to the HTML version. Our goal is to provide a single-online support portal so that all My Oracle Support users can benefit from the same features and functionality. Prior to July 13, 2012, users of Oracle On Demand, Oracle CRM On Demand, Taleo, and Oracle Configuration Manager should continue accessing the My Oracle Support Flash-based user interface. After July 13, 2012, the above features and functionality to support these users will be available on the HTML interface. All other users of My Oracle Support can make the switch now. • When designing a job queue, what should determine the scope of a job?

  We've got a job queue system that'll cheerfully process any kind of job given to it. We intend to use it to process jobs that each contain 2 tasks: Job (Pass information from one server to another) Fetch task (get the data, slowly) Send task (send the data, comparatively quickly) The difficulty we're having is that we don't know whether to break the tasks into separate jobs, or process the job in one go. Are there any best practices or useful references on this subject? Is there some obvious benefit to a method that we're missing? So far we can see these benefits for each method: Split Job lease length reflects job length: Rather than total of two Finer granularity on recovery: If we lose outgoing connectivity we can tell them all to retry The starting state of the second task is saved to job history: Helps with debugging (although similar logging could be added in single task method) Single Single job to be scheduled: Less processing overhead Data not stale on recovery: If the outgoing downtime is quite long, the pending Send jobs could be outdated

• What's the best language to use for a simple windows 7 dynamic gui desktop app [closed]

  [Note: I hope I am not breaking etiquette, but I originally posted a variant on this question here, but am re-asking here because I am making this now solely a question about programming.] I would like to program of the following simple form: The user can produce X number of resizable frames (analogous to HTML frames). Each frame serves as a simple text editor, which you can type into and save the whole configuration including resized windows and text. The user should be able alternately "freeze" and present the information, and "unfreeze" and edit frames. Thus it will be a cross between a calendar and a text editor. I don't particularly care if it is a web application or not. What languages are ideal for such a setup? I know some C and Python and Html, and am willing to learn others if need be. It seems to me this should be a relatively easy program to make, but I need a little direction before starting. EDIT: My OS is Windows 7.
